I say this all the time but I became a fan of Jeremy's back when I was in the 8th grade. I honestly didn't care all that much about sports in general, but it was so inspiring to see someone who "looked like me" generate that buzz in the biggest stage that is the NBA, and in Madison Square Garden no less. Now, as a 23 year old Korean American, I have even more respect for who he is and how he chooses to use his platform in light of these recent attacks. He's always been incredibly selfless, humble, and hard working. Was my idol as a young teenager and still is to this day. Thank you, Jeremy :)
racism doesn’t exist. It’s an illusion to control the masses. That’s why it’s black, white, Asian vs black, white, Asian! People dislike you on your beliefs, not ur skin color.
That's a very good story, truly he inspires Asians they can achieve in fields outside of academics. Even then he is still picked on by the basketball media for moving to China NBA and being grateful to return to the American side of NBA and being ridiculed for his decision, he is still a very respectable man for always believing in his values and aiming to be a better person and player. As an American role model I respect him.
Thank you for the important message. Jeremy, young man, you rock! I'm very impressed with your intelligence and bravery in addressing this national and global ugliness. Your compassion and integrity shines through the truth you speak; chapeau! 🎩 As an old Caucasian lady who has fought against racism all my life I am touched and encouraged by your words. People need to speak up against this crap every time they see it. I am listening; I will always be listening. You are indeed delightful! Blessings.👵🙏😊💕
I didn't follow your career Jeremy, but I'm listening, and I agree the best is yet to come for you. You have a solid foundation, and we need more people like you. Great interview!
Jeremy is such a nice and gracious person, but I still think he needs to reveal the name of the player who said racial slurs to him, because wrong is wrong. He can say the name of the person and forgive him later. Racists need a lesson.
We need the most powerful leader in USA , say we are all American, don’t talk about asian American Latin American Africa American ! We are all humans !
I wish these wilfully ignorant people would pause and examine their conscience before targeting Asians and other ethnicities. This situation is truly unacceptable.
Mr. Lin is a wonderful example of an athlete and a human being. He is mature beyond his years, And has a quiet intelligence I wish more people had. And when he was a Knick?!? We were lucky to have him.✌️
My 2 yr old has experienced something similar recently, she was repeatedly called "Coronavirus" by older kids at a local playground in the Bay Area. Thankfully, she's a toddler, forgiven and forgetful ... and helped me move forward from what she has experienced and I've witnessed.
This is America! We're victims of how this country began. If all of us that don't have hate in our hearts don't come together as one, this problem will not solve itself!
An amazing interview, and fantastic questions. I love Jeremy, but as a fellow Asian-American, he needs to go through more of a process and wake up and speak up more... his experiences matter and are valid!. We need to speak up as a people or the racists will keep on attacking us. Keeping quiet and and keeping our head down doesn't work and hasn't worked. Love you, Jeremy, you've been through a lot, and you still need to process it. Racism from white people and yes, some black people, too.
Very good interview. Lin is articulate and mature in talking about and dealing with these very tough situations. I’m now a big fan and I’m not sports person.
Excellent piece and content on understanding, forgiveness, racism and dealing with it. This is the type of education we need. Honest, harsh, genuine and ultimately thoughtful, I can say I have learned, thank you for this sharing this most excellent interview.
Jeremy Lin should name the player who called him "coronavirus". Would be a teachable moment. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke
Because some people would look at that as "see, All Black people are like that" but not remember the story where his black college coach shared a story about his youth about discrimination. He wants to share positive experiences and how to build bridges. He is about creating coalitions between his fans, Asians, players and anyone wanting a better future
He is very wise and gracious in his answers. The reporter kept on pushing him to say something negative about the other person. He stood firm and did not fall into the trap. Jeremy Lin's behaviors off the court are even more impressive than his basketball skills on the court.
Hes also a very strong Christian man. He loves Jesus and he is truly a leader in the game of basketball and throughout our communities. God bless Jeremy In and the Asians through out the world
Education doesn't necessarily make one a good "interviewer" that takes practice. Lin is used to it and it shows but that doesn't come from a Harvard education. Take Cornell West for example, his interviews are cringe worthy and he is a Harvard professor. Some of the best actors came from nothing with no education as another example.
I saw a documentary about this guy long time ago. I feel for this guy. I think some players are indirectly making steps to not let his career flourish because of his ethnicity. He is a great player. I am glad that you are able to voice yourself now.
Yeah. After watching that documentary I kinda lost interest on that sports. Sports politics should stop and should give equal opportunity to all talented players.
he simply didn’t have what it took to be a star player at the professional level. his competition was light in college. he could not hang with the big dogs, period. nothing to do with racial politics
Jeremy, I miss seeing you on TV playing basketball. I am a big fan not of basketball, but of Jeremy. You are also a born diplomat. I wish you the best, Curtis. I think I remember your parents are from Taiwan, so I especially wanted you to succeed. I spent 13 years in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, mostly in Asia playing cat and mouse with the commies. I worked for Civil Air Transport in Taiwan.
If racists can have an open, serious discussion, then forgiveness would be the ideal route. Unfortunately, this scenario is the exception, not the norm. The best we can hope for is to convince people who mindlessly say and do ignorant things without any serious thought to pause when listening to one of the video clips and realize that he/she doesn’t need to be that way and could actually want to be a better person. I had such an epiphany and stopped making gay jokes after college. Some people will never grow up, but hopefully these interviews with many respects people from different professions will catch people at the right moment of reflection. Thanks to the media for putting on another great interview. I also like your phrase of “competitive suffering”, which I read too much of on the comments section everywhere. These arguments miss the point, and should invite further discussion, so that everybody feels heard about their own perspectives on a very big problem that we have all experience in some manner. Once we can get past this, then we can start to see more widespread community and alliances with various minority groups. I even have white friends who feel injustice has been done to them, but their stereotyping of “the bad peoples” prevents them from seeing all contributions and achievements of everybody else. These are people we want on our side too, since they may be able to convinc3 th it own more than we can. In the end, all of us want to be treated with humanity, dignity, and respect- nothing special or privileged, just eniugh to pursue our own happiness and livelihood without fear of oppression or violence.
Why is media silent about the fact that African Americans are seen on CCTV footages as perpetrating these hate crimes? The host is the only interviewer I have seen who has been brave enough to discuss blacks harassing Asians like Jeremy Lin. 9:00. 11:57.
It’s time to respect one another regardless of our background. We live in U.S.A. We must be “United” and try to learn to live with one another respectfully. God created all different colors of people.
Imo Lin was too graceful in this treatment. Handle internally? WTF? Double standard much? That slur is as demeaning as the N word. If someone used the N word on the court they would be publicly shamed and never play in the NBA again, literally within hours. Not even close to equitable treatment for Lin.
@@spareld Ya let's ignore context and make a non argument. Gotcha. Referring to someone of Asian decent as "kung flu" or "china virus" is as serious a racial slur as any. Not the word itself ok? Education much? And given the rise in hate crime against Asians ya it's usage has real effects that are born out in data.
@@spareld Also for a black man, who carries the last name of the slave owner who owned his relatives to attack someone else on the grounds of race is well...what's a soft way to say this...self defeating.
Bring it, Lin! You have such a wholesome, genuine, and refreshing word on this all encompassing man made construct of racism. Forgiveness and the justice system rit large is not mutually exclusive.
JL is an outstanding human being. Nothing but love from this young man. Keep doing what you do and I'm rooting for you to a come back to the GS Warriors.
Well, I think he should stay right where he is.. basketball seems to be his passion & joy..he can still lend his voice to the issues like this one that matters to him.& have a great impact ...
He had my respect even before this. A former NBA player turned commentator, Kenyon Martin was taking shots at him for having dreads and J Lin replied back in the most clever way without being disrespectful.
Basically work hard put your head down and don't listen to the haters. Aaaand don't get hung up on the identity of haters and give them a voice. Thanks for being a big guy with a great spirit Jeremy Lin. Respect.
Amen to my brother, I love the way you stood on the grounds of handling yourself through such a negative experience. Showing Godly character with a heart of forgiveness.
I love Lin, and just on a different note, if you are not watching but just listening, Lin sounds a lot like Jay Z. His tone and inflection and the message.
I would love to see Jeremy Lin back in the NBA, hopefully with the Golden State Warriors because It would be a good fit and a win win for both the team and overall great impact for the public. Stay strong my brother...
Dear readers: Please bear in mind that the following is *not* intended to dismiss the shameful, racist sentiment against people of Asian descent in general. It's real. It's ignorant. It's awful. HOWEVER, the specific touchstone event of last week, is almost certainly more layered and complicated than the straightforward narrative of a gunman specifically targeting Asian women because the shooter hates Asian women. The shooter comes from a religious sect which seems to focus (unhealthily, in my view) on repression of sexuality. His very normal sexual drive is high, as is the case for most 21 year old men. His peers, religious leaders, and most important, his parents, all drove this concept of "sexual desire as sinfulness" into his head. He was made to feel ashamed of masturbating, as well as condemned to hell for indulging thereto. He couldn't fathom the possibility of a satisfying sexual relationship with his girlfriend. He was influenced not to seek help from a secular professional such as a psychologist or psychiatrist. Instead, he confined his efforts to a search for spiritual help from the same source responsible for his psychological and moral dilemma. Ultimately, his inability to control himself through (misguided and unhealthy, in my view) religiosity further compounded his guilt. Where race comes into play, lies in his reasons for choosing Asian massage parlors for his sexual gratification. I would be willing to bet that he chose them, as opposed to conventional prostitutes or casual encounters, because Asian women were so foreign to him in appearance, custom and language. Because of this foreignness, he probably dehumanized them in his mind, thus rationalizing the encounter until guilt set in immediately thereafter. As I said at the beginning, I'm not trying to diminish bigotry or racism in general terms. This particular case, however, is almost certainly more complicated than the simple assertion that he hates Asians and decided to kill some of them. Apologies for the lengthy post. I welcome constructive rebuttal. I will not respond to hysterical rants and insults. Good day to all.
I’m so with this young man-much respect! I’ve experienced racism even with other Latinos and I am Puerto Rican. I know exactly what he’s talking about. We need to unite and advocate for each other. Divided we fail, together we succeed!

Those same friends would stand up for me and I for them in a heart beat in the face of such angry racism. Im very PROUD to see that you have been doing the uplifting personal work it takes to see yourself beyond these racist driven comments. I know from personal experience that ANYTHING is possible for change. It starts with yourself. My adoptive Father is Caucasian and Im African/AmericanIndian. I grew with open conversations between me and my Father. He taught me to just laugh when ppl say racist things and to go on. He taught me to KNOW that the person(s) who say degrading comments are actually suffering deeply from fear. They are insecure and weak of spirit. Forgiveness is ALWAYS the way. Ive made many friends in the face of such adversity. You are a humble and loving young man who is doing the light work through your Christian Faith. I am not a Christian but, Im happy inside witnessing how you considered the teachings of your faith to guide you to heal. Thanks for doing this interview. Im glad for you! Take Care!❤

I agree with Jeremy. We shouldn't try to one up injustices, but apologies are necessary before we can move forward in helping each other. We have forgiven, but the pain continues when thing aren't resolved.
Now we asian must refuse to buy brands again Asian . If these brand do not post on social media specific support Asian community, we must stop purchasing items from those brands who do not support Asian community. If they do , they must post on social media. Black lives matters so are asian lives matters

He said "of Course" lady and don't question that because he is a well rounded, good person. Of course you forgive. That's how to move on when someone apologizes to you. That's how you live your life is to move on and not hold grudges. If you are the reporter to interview and ask questions, you don't try to reword the person trying to say. Also, if you have a platform as an athlete, such as Jeremy Lin, people pay more attention. Good for him!
What a great man. So much respect for him.
Inspiring interview. His words really make me want to strive to be better and do better.
Jeremy Lin, Thank you for stand out and speak out! We always support you!
We are all humans !
sorry but this is hard to understand lol
United we stand, divided we fall. Don’t expect anti-American, seditionists to get it, or for our corporate media NOT to divide us.
@@austinmcdanel7986 So stupid.
@Lily Liu 👈who's this Leader?
@@deplorablepocdetejas1989 where’s great leader in USA? If we can’t have it , it’s sad
I wish these wilfully ignorant people would pause and examine their conscience before targeting Asians and other ethnicities. This situation is truly unacceptable.
Mr. Lin is a wonderful example of
an athlete and a human being. He is mature beyond his years,
And has a quiet intelligence I wish more people had.
I'm continually somehow shocked, at how blatant racism exists even in the "progressive" Bay Area. America... :(
This is America! We're victims of how this country began. If all of us that don't have hate in our hearts don't come together as one, this problem will not solve itself!
WELL SAID
That white man wants to stay up top and he will do anything to maintain the status quo.
Racism is Wrong! We must work against this. So sorry you went through this.
15:50 So glad to hear Jeremy spoke the truth of God's grace at the cross. I was hoping that he would mention it and he did. Amen brother!
Great interview!! People could learn from his attitude. Where can I get one of those hats!!
Much ❤️to my Asian brothers & sisters.
Jeremy Lin should name the player who called him "coronavirus". Would be a teachable moment.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke
Exactly what i was thinking, why protect them by not putting them on front street. I dont agree with Lin, too bad he's not more agressive.
Because some people would look at that as "see, All Black people are like that" but not remember the story where his black college coach shared a story about his youth about discrimination. He wants to share positive experiences and how to build bridges. He is about creating coalitions between his fans, Asians, players and anyone wanting a better future
@@drghdrgh1140 understandable, Lin is a better person than.
Don’t forget he is a Harvard graduate. I see that great education kicks in during this quite a tough interview.
Obviously he's spoilt then. Oops sorry, i mean privileged with parents who heavily invested in him. I'm not hating him at all, he's great :)
haRvarD gRaD
COOL
I agree.
Well from the reports Carmelo basically wanted to be a one man show on the Knicks and got Lin and D'Antoni out.
Absolutely 💯
Yeah. After watching that documentary I kinda lost interest on that sports. Sports politics should stop and should give equal opportunity to all talented players.
he simply didn’t have what it took to be a star player at the professional level. his competition was light in college. he could not hang with the big dogs, period. nothing to do with racial politics
BROTHER JEREMY, THANKSF FOR ADDING YOUR VERY IMPORTANT & PRECIOUS VOICE TO OUR MOVEMENT ! 💛💛💛
Taiwan Numba 1. China Numba 195.
Well said!😊
Why is media silent about the fact that African Americans are seen on CCTV footages as perpetrating these hate crimes? The host is the only interviewer I have seen who has been brave enough to discuss blacks harassing Asians like Jeremy Lin. 9:00. 11:57.
It’s time to respect one another regardless of our background. We live in U.S.A. We must be “United” and try to learn to live with one another respectfully. God created all different colors of people.
Thank you for your voice, Jeremy. Take care, brutha!
Imo Lin was too graceful in this treatment. Handle internally? WTF? Double standard much? That slur is as demeaning as the N word. If someone used the N word on the court they would be publicly shamed and never play in the NBA again, literally within hours. Not even close to equitable treatment for Lin.
Highlight of the day. "Coronavirus" an actual virus, is the same as the n word" gotcha 👌
Love Jeremy Lin- a really fun player to watch on the court and an overall great guy
Thank you both for spreading knowledge of what is going on in the a
Asian community in such a positive and constructive way. 💔💔🧘🏻♀️🙏
Remorse is the foundation of forgiveness.
he definitely nailed that “comparison of hardships”, gas lighting and focusing on where this injustice is coming from👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for raising this issue!
Wise and virtuous being. Bless up, Jeremy L. and stay inspiring our AAPI community!
JL is an outstanding human being. Nothing but love from this young man. Keep doing what you do and I'm rooting for you to a come back to the GS Warriors.
Kudos to you Jeremy for speaking up with such wisdom!
RESPECT! Respect each other
I think this is a really good conversation. Enjoyed hearing from both.
My respect for Jeremy Lin has grown even more. Stand up human being!!!!
Jeremy Lin is so right and understand racism very well.
Jeremy comes across as a really nice person .
Insanity! Jeremy, run for office!
Well, I think he should stay right where he is.. basketball seems to be his passion & joy..he can still lend his voice to the issues like this one that matters to him.& have a great impact ...
Thanks for talking about it. The host asked good quality questions!
He had my respect even before this. A former NBA player turned commentator, Kenyon Martin was taking shots at him for having dreads and J Lin replied back in the most clever way without being disrespectful.
Yes he had chinese tattoos lmao
Lol don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house. POC vs POC should tread carefully. 😅😜
Jeremy Lin is so outspoken about his faith. Praise God!
Basically work hard put your head down and don't listen to the haters. Aaaand don't get hung up on the identity of haters and give them a voice. Thanks for being a big guy with a great spirit Jeremy Lin. Respect.
Such an articulate player
Well said, Jeremy!
Also it's kind of cool that the light casted on his neck happened to form a shape of his jersey number "7" right under his chin.
I would love to see Jeremy Lin back in the NBA, hopefully with the Golden State Warriors because It would be a good fit and a win win for both the team and overall great impact for the public. Stay strong my brother...
Dear readers:
Please bear in mind that the following is *not* intended to dismiss the shameful, racist sentiment against people of Asian descent in general.
Well said! As an ex-Christian and Asian American, I wholeheartedly agree w ur statement
I’m so with this young man-much respect! I’ve experienced racism even with other Latinos and I am Puerto Rican. I know exactly what he’s talking about. We need to unite and advocate for each other. Divided we fail, together we succeed!
Good interview and great questions!
Jeremy you should run for office.
Jeremy you are absolutely a fascinating beautiful spirit of Human understanding.
Although I havent watched you in all your glory on the b.ball court, this interview showed me your zest for communication. Ive had many friends of Asian descent, European descent, African descent, Native Indian descent growing up in Canada.🍁❤
All my Asian friends were part of my life and contributed to my creativity.
Take Care!❤
Thank you for shedding light on this issue
Good interview
Jeremy Lin. I am sorry that you were called "Coronavirus". Sending caring hugs. We had to leave our previous home and town because of Anti-Asian hate and harassment. The new town still have hate but less. I am afraid. I don't go places alone, only when my husband is with me.
Wow! Seriously? This is in America? I am in Los Angels and so far me and my relatives are ok. Maybe I should tell my sister to be vigilant. All those Asisn attacks are targeting women and elderly. Hopefully Andrew Yang would be elected as the Mayor of New York so he can help the Asian community as a high profile politician. God Bless!
There are evil jerks everywhere in the world. That said, make sure you are alert and carry pepper spray or a gun to protect you and your family
@@sdla690 thank you for your kind words. Its such a scary time. We keep saying to ourselves that Most people in the world are good, it’s the few that makes it bad.
I completely agree with reading more books from other points of view. I loved mythology and history growing up. I would read so many books about so many different country's mythologies, their history, sociology books.
"Let's focus on the root of the injustice rather than on the injustices themselves." Smart.
Wow! I don't watch sports so I don't know who this guy is but I agree with every point he made. He should run for office.
Dude is a Harvard Grad... he is no slouch.
He was a top guard of NBA, highly respected.
YES! GO GO Jeremy Lin not only He’s a great in Basketball also a God sent Christian but also a REAL MAN for us humility and GOD BLESS❤️
Surprised he’s not been given the type of attention that covers his challenges and views in basketball through media
Thank you Jeremy for speaking up. Why did PBS bleep what he was called? Let people hear what we hear.
Great young man , keep your head up , keep climbing 🙏🏾💕
I would like to understand what is “ Black live mater “mean?. Out standings 🎤
What a humble and righteous young man, all the best to you Jeremy!👏
Thank you for reporting and sharing the story hopefully it will change mentalities
We need more people like Lin in the world
Wow, Jeremy is really wise. I would love to see a documentary about him. I think he can bridge divides and really be influential in a huge way
Just horrible!! Can anyone just imagine what that felt like hearing the word "coronavirus" called at you? When and where does it all end?
I agree with Jeremy. We shouldn't try to one up injustices, but apologies are necessary before we can move forward in helping each other. We have forgiven, but the pain continues when thing aren't resolved.
Now we asian must refuse to buy brands again Asian . If these brand do not post on social media specific support Asian community, we must stop purchasing items from those brands who do not support Asian community. If they do , they must post on social media. Black lives matters so are asian lives matters
Thank you Jeremy for voice your opinion.
Great interview! Everyone is different, there is no need to subgroup these or subgroup those. Respect each other, we are human!
The host was in disbelief of Jeremy's philosophy in forgiveness. 😂
Great interview. Jeremy Lin, I respect your story; thanks for sharing.

Jeremy Lin is one of the few men in the world I respect and admire. ✞
Thank you for this richly informative Talk. Jeremy Lin‘s words are, his stance is just precious.
This is a piss poor interviewer. She is looking for Lin to go off. Lin handled her beautifully.
America now more than ever needs an African Asian American coalition to unite to bridge our differences and work together for our shared future.
I think he should mention names if it is my fellow blacks they must be accountable
we experience more racism than any group
if you point fingers we cannot be seen as been a racist
My sister and I are senior citizens and pedestrians. I have become paranoid of being targeted on the street.
She kept trying to make him talk bad about black people
Yesssss!!!! Agreed!
Praise God!
Although I agree with most of what he said, we cannot heal if he will not listen to the issues brought up about how Asians have looked at, treated Blacks as a collective.
As a northeast indian having Asian look, it's really sad even in India, we are called by a virus name . I wish this end.
Thank you Jeremy ❤️💪👍 always support you !!!❣️
He said "of Course" lady and don't question that because he is a well rounded, good person. Of course you forgive. That's how to move on when someone apologizes to you. That's how you live your life is to move on and not hold grudges. If you are the reporter to interview and ask questions, you don't try to reword the person trying to say. You let the speaker say it in his own mind or heart. Let him or her speak in his honest opinion. He speaks well English and graduated from college, so you don't need to correct or interrupt him.
