I am a locksmith and because of high competition I get around 2 calls a day. Added automotive less competition with Ads everything probably getting 5-6 a day. Doing both and everything works well.

Great video. I was motivated to start a auto locksmith bussiness.
Then I found out you need multiple programmers to different cars. I had the Autel IM 608. Thinking it would cover many cars. Guess what? It has its limits.
    Sold everything😂

When you say limits what do you mean? Can it do most cars? I’m looking to get into this myself and I’m even going to locksmith school here in a few months so I’m trying to learn. Thank you!

@@DylanT18 some programmers work better than others. Autel may claim their machine is the best but clearly is not. It does many model but not all. You need to pay anual subcription for update. If not it stops working.

Where is the best place to learn the actual skills? I live in Florida in an area where no license is required, but I’m also not finding much in the area of training. Thank-you

U gotta hire an independent trainer/mentor but it cost alot of money. I had a week of training 10hrs a day and it cost about $4,000. The good thing is that u get to call them anytime for help but dont rely on that. Im from Florida as well and I program about 10 keys a day and i started this in june 2024, so you can very much do it!

This might be a dumb question, but isn’t the trade for automotive not going to last. Everything is going electric these days , I don’t even see lock cylinders in most new cars. Is this the case ?

Most cars still have a key overide hidden in the handle of the car door. Also the technology to program new cars is constantly evolving

This guy lost his credibility when he said there were more houses than cars, and bigger residential market. Ok bud...

There are more homes/commercial units than cars, and besides the number of homes and commercial units you have to think of the number of doors in that single building and all the hardware on each door. Hinges, door closers, peep holes, levers knobs, door operators, deadbolts. All need maintenance or replacement eventually. And then there’s the higher turnover on residential and commercial units. When someone buys a house or moves into a new commercial unit they don’t want the old tenants or owners to have a key so they rekey the exterior doors, that never happens with vehicles. Theres also master keying and all sorts of other services to offer to people whereas with a vehicle it’s either a lockout, ignition rebuild or lost keys to replace and not too much else. A vehicle could have the same keys from the factory 30 years later without ever getting rekeyed. There’s way more money in residential and commercial locksmithing than you think. I’ve been doing it for 4 years now and I have 4-5 jobs booked Mon to Friday. Never have to remove a dash or any door panels or any of that extra work that comes with automotive locks.

One condo building in a downtown area will have 700 units in one building and most of the owners won’t own a single vehicle. That’s 700 unit doors each with a deadbolt, door closer, passage knob/lever, and 3 hinges. That’s not including all the utility rooms in the building and hallway doors and lobby doors and amenity doors etc. There’s way more doors/locks to work on in buildings than cars.
