As the father of three daughters, nearly 44, nearly 42, and creeping up on 40, I have to say I loved the interaction with your dad. So heartwarming. And he loved the chili!
DARK CHOCOLATE???? Whoah! This was already my favorite cooking channel on TH-cam, but your chili secret ingredient just blew my mind! I want to try this at home and then throw it in the dehydrator to bring with me out on trail for a cold weather backpacking trip this winter. Thanks Amanda!
@@amanda.outside OMG!!! Same!! Especially when I'm out on trail. Super excited to try your recipe!! PS: No beans in your chili either? Mind blown again. :)
I am scheduling a celebrate fall day for myself here in the woods in Beavercreek Oregon to try these recipes! I have tried your hot cocoa and it is the best I have ever had and just the right amount of sweetness! Your videos are so calming and you have great taste in recipes!! Congratulations with your recent award Amanda!!❤
I really enjoy watching your channel! I don’t camp much because my husband and kids don’t enjoy it. But I love being out in nature! In Mexico there is a dish called mole (MOL-lay). It’s a sauce that consists of chiles, spices, and chocolate. And it is delish! So I definitely can see how the dark chocolate would add a yummy flavor to your chili. 👌🏼🤤
Wow! I just made this chili and because I’m used to beans, I did add some pinto beans that I had cooked from dry in the instant pot. Thank you so much my husband’s about to eat this right now and it’s a cold day in Oregon and cooked on stove. Delicious flavor! I hope to try this on the open campfire next time! Thank you so much and happy new year!
I made the Rosemary hot chocolate last night and it was good. I wanted to try it before I make it on New Year’s Eve for my children. Since they work on Christmas that will be our Christmas together. I normally do not drink hot chocolate but was impressed. Thanks for the recipe.
This brings back so many memories of camping with my dad. He could cook! I am not camping as much as I use to, but I will have to try your chilli. Looks amazing, and love the snow in the background! Looks like a fantastic trip. Thank you for sharing.
Just as another dessert recipe, I like to do camp oven baked stuffed pears. Their shape is more naturally like a chimney. I stuff them with Mince Meat marinated in Brandy and topped with Devonshire Cream! 👨🍳
The hot chocolate sounded so good that as soon as I finished watching the video I got up and tried making it that way. Wow! I don’t think I’ll ever buy a container of hot chocolate mix again. I’m sitting here enjoying a mug as I write this comment. Love your cooking ideas.
Snowy day in Oregon today and I thought I would try your hot chocolate, it was fabulous as we are lucky to have a really hearty rosemary plant here and I loved it not being so sweet like store bought! Thank you!
Would love to see options for cold weather comfort cooking with minimal fuel. Lots of places are still under a burn ban and propane fuel is not something you want to burn through for a long cook cycle when you don’t pack a lot for a few days. The struggle to open a jar is real! I’ll have to try adding rosemary to my hot chocolate. Sounds delicious! What do you do with all the leftover chili?
2/23/23 Edit - OK, I had to edit this comment to say that I made the chili and it is FANTASTIC! Highly recommend! I just love your campfire cooking videos! I struggle so hard with campfire cooking but you make it look so easy. You've also got me interested in trying chili the way you made it, I don't like beans either and I knew chili without beans was a thing but it never sounded super appealing to me, but yours looked delicious! There's something really cozy about you all being out there around the campfire even with the snow on the ground, thank you for sharing!
We love your cooking videos. Everything is so yummy. I’ll have to try chocolate in chili one day. Never heard of it but I’ve heard it adds a Little something lol. Great video Amanda. 😊
Thank you Amanda for the great informational video. It all so good It was great to see your Dad with you in camp God's Blessings on all your adventures Merry Christmas to you all
Awesome episode! I love baked apple and that recipe looked amazing, I love chocolate in chilli, I love the idea of rosemary in cocoa and will try it next time, I love your dad's reactions but most of all I loved the shots of you trying to open the maple syrup 🤣 all the best from the UK, Andy
All the food looks delicious! I'm originally from Cincinnati and Cincinnati style chili typically has chocolate and some unique spices like allspice and cinnamon...you should give it a try! I also loved your "Office "reference - the episode where Kevin spills all the chili is one of my favorites. The actor who plays Kevin recently came out with an cookbook of chili recipes titled "Seriously Good Chili Cookbook" 🌶
... Great looking camp foods ... slightly different than my own ...going to give this a go soon ,, I love chilli ,,with or without beans ...had me wanting as you were serving it up...
The chilli recipe is almost the way I make it. I use pure cocoa powder instead of dark chocolate, but the same idea. And I hate beans, so this one looks great to me. Baked apples also look great!
Ok definitely trying out your cocoa recipe!!!😋 Love how you’re showing us ways to enjoy the outdoors in winter, we get a lot of it here! ❄️ You’re not alone…I’ve totally had the maple syrup lid struggle! Even a tiny bit of maple syrup stuck in the lid will basically cement the lid on forever 😂 I sometimes have to use a rubber glove to open! It was sweet seeing you and your dad 🥰
The chilli looks great, would of never thought to put chocolate in it😀and w the hot chocolate, very cool tip to put rosemary in it😀 I’m always looking for different and unconventional ways to make things😀
I stumbled across this channel when I got back from trail riding and camping in Uwharrie National Park in NC for a wk. I’m not a hiker. I firmly believe god made a horse so I didn’t have to do all that walking 🤣🤣🤷♀️🤷♀️. However, I love to camp and just being outside. I went back and watched some of your past videos and at the end of the cooking videos I’m pretty dang hungry. Needless to say I’m definitely a new sub after watching a few. Now I have to fix me a snack cuz I’m hungry… Again. 🥪🥪🤷♀️🤷♀️
Chilli looks great! Wow! I've never added maple syrup nor heated rosemary in the hot chocolate. Going to have to try it. Also never had baked apple over a campfire. Going to try that too.
So excited to see a new episode. It all lookd delicious and im going to get some rosemary and put it in my hot chocolate and let you know how it tastes. Was that dark cocoa?
These recipes look amazing! I love your Dutch oven videos. I’m definitely going to try the rosemary trick in the hot chocolate. I have to ask though how do you get your hair so long? It’s gorgeous!
I hope you enjoy the rosemary hot cocoa! I do get a lot of questions about my hair. I think it's a combination of things but I don't heat style it very often, so I think that helps keep it healthy. I drink homemade bone broth just about every day and I make a homemade hair growth oil with a combination of essential oils, castor oil, and argan oil. I try to put that in my hair once a week!
Yum! All the food as usual looks amazing! My "secret" chili ingredient is brewed coffee, sounds weird but adds that depth/ bitterness that I bet the dark chocolate does. Where did you get that sweet campfire glove?!
It's from the brand Filson. I've linked to it in the video description. It's a great jacket! I normally wouldn't wear it around the campfire because I don't want to ruin it, but it was a cold day!
Ok, soooo i saw your special hot chocolate recipe with maple syrup and rosemary on another one of your videos. I tried to like it lol but just a no for me. Love ya though!
Just wanted to add a word of warning about adding "secret ingredients " like chocolate in chili or other dishes. Make sure you know if anyone has food allergies. My daughter added a bit if chocolate to a batch of chili for a family get together once, not knowing that my son's girlfriend was allergic to chocolate. Sara ( girlfriend) fudnt think to ask if there was chicolate in it, as most people don't add it. Luckily, she didn't have a super severe reaction, broke out in hives, but took some benadryl and was ok. She even got over us trying to kill her, as she and my son are now engaged!
As the father of three daughters, nearly 44, nearly 42, and creeping up on 40, I have to say I loved the interaction with your dad. So heartwarming. And he loved the chili!
He did!! He even went back for seconds 🤗
I'm sure your daughter's appreciate you rounding up their ages. Total dad move.
Rosemary in the hot cocoa, brilliant 🙌
Chocolate 🍫 in chili, rosemary in coco oh boy I can't wait to try it out

Another thing, can you make a video showing how you camp during the snow and how to stay warm?
Just as another dessert recipe, I like to do camp oven baked stuffed pears. Their shape is more naturally like a chimney. I stuff them with Mince Meat marinated in Brandy and topped with Devonshire Cream! 👨🍳

Nice episode! Liked the cameo by your Dad and your coat is so nice looking!
So glad you enjoyed the video! It was fun to have my dad hang out with us for the day! 🤗

Love this. Big camp coming up. Def going to make some of those apples. Thanks so much!

As a Texan I was appalled by the chocolate but as a creative cook I’m intrigued!!!😂
I tried the rosemary in hotcholate, it was so good!! what a good tip😊
Dark chocolate in chili? 🤯 mind blown! What a great addition!
I love chocolate so I try to find a way to put it in just about everything 😂

I still don't understand how Nick opened it so easily 😂 Thank you for commenting! Glad you enjoyed this one!
@@amanda.outside you must have loosened the lid some, and Nick just finished turning it for you! :)
A little wine or beer can add a little something to chili too.

yummy stuff as usual, awesome.

Hi Amanda and Nick from Trinidad. Yummy food.
So excited to see a new episode. It all lookd delicious and im going to get some rosemary and put it in my hot chocolate and let you know how it tastes. Was that dark cocoa?
I hope you love it! I used normal cocoa powder.
looks great! why the parchment paper? keep the vids coming

How do you determine what to cook over an open fire like you cooked the chili vs when you just use hot coals?
Yum! All the food as usual looks amazing! My "secret" chili ingredient is brewed coffee, sounds weird but adds that depth/ bitterness that I bet the dark chocolate does. Where did you get that sweet campfire glove?!
They’re welding gloves, which also work amazing for tending to a fire.
Good idea about coffee; a lot of bbq rubs use it, probably for the same reason.
Thanks for your videos! I really like your coat, it appears to be a warm down puffer….Could you please share the brand name?
It's from the brand Filson. I've linked to it in the video description. It's a great jacket! I normally wouldn't wear it around the campfire because I don't want to ruin it, but it was a cold day!
What is the spatula you were using in your first recipe?
A grapefruit spoon would work well for coring apples.
An apple corer would work better.
Great recipes!
I did "the Kevin spill" with 8 qts of chili on my front porch while I was bringing it to my car.
Oh what a scene that was 😂
What kind of gloves were you wearing around the camp fire? They look super protective.
They're the Camp Chef Heat Guard gloves and I love them!
@@amanda.outside awesome! Thanks, I’ll have to get a pair!❤️
Wait, do you ever add beans to your chili?
put the bag inside of your jacket until the butter is soft enough
👍👍👌
she really needs a Buzzygrill.

As someone who doesn't eat meat I was waiting for the beans to go in the chilli...
not me noticing the foil ran out so one apple was shared...lol

metal on a dutch oven?????? Don't do it!!!!!!!!!
Better use another explanation mark so people know you’re extra serious.
I would not put chocolate in that that’s gross 🤮
To you it might be.
