Bovaer and the Arla Foods Controversy: Climate Change vs. Safety

- Can Bovaer, the methane-reducing additive used in Arla Foods, tackle the climate impact of cow farts without compromising food safety?
Bovaer, a methane-reducing feed additive developed by DSM-Firmenich, has become a flashpoint in the global conversation about sustainable farming. Designed to cut methane emissions from cows by up to 45%, Bovaer works by targeting the enzyme responsible for methane production during digestion.
This groundbreaking technology has been tested for over a decade and is now trialed in 68 countries, including the UK, where Arla Foods is spearheading its integration on 30 farms. The milk from these trials is already being sold in major retailers like Tesco, Aldi and Morrisons, sparking concern among consumers.
Supporters of Bovaer hail it as a vital step in reducing agriculture’s carbon footprint, especially in methane-heavy sectors like dairy. Yet, public unease remains high, largely fueled by questions about safety and transparency.
Critics point to potential Bovaer side effects, especially concerning its active ingredient, 3Nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP). While experts emphasize that 3-NOP breaks down harmlessly in a cow’s digestive system, public trust has been shaken by reports of health risks for handlers and accusations of insufficient consumer education during the trials. Videos of shoppers discarding Lupak Butter and pouring out Cravendale Milk in protest highlight the growing divide between producers and consumers.
Experts like Professor Chris Elliott argue that the benefits of Bovaer outweigh the risks, citing over 150 peer-reviewed studies confirming its safety and effectiveness. Still, they acknowledge the need for open communication and rigorous monitoring to build public trust. Arla Foods UK and DSM-Firmenich stress that the additive does not remain in milk or meat, ensuring food safety while helping address the climate crisis.
Ultimately, the debate over Bovaer underscores the tension between innovation and trust in the food system. As farmers and scientists explore solutions to feed a growing population sustainably, the path forward must balance technological advances with the transparency and dialogue necessary to ensure widespread public support.

#bovaer #arla #documentary
When massive corporations are paying each other millions and trading carbon credits to make it look like they are doing more than they are, It is horrible to blame cows and farting.
You don't trust them😂
@@aptorres01you do?
Trust The Science, said dr. Fauci. Jab is safe and effective!!!!......
Yes yes, the science that comes from political lying scientists...
The mistrust of the British public towards large supermarket chains is accelerating. People are certainly concerned. One very worrying concern is the amount of this untested compound being exposed to our children!
I don't want anything that I am told is "Safe and effective"
Yes, the rigourous testing is on the public
DSM, the company who makes Bovaer, also partners with a 'meat alternative' company making synthetic protein. If people turn away from beef because they feel that cows are full of a toxin, then DSM makes money from their other investment - *Meatable* a _cultivated NON-NATURAL meat_ business. In case you think that "Follow the £$£$£$" is a cynical assessment based on just a 'rumour', you can check that partnership online.
I sm boycotting ARLA BiG time
Hear hear!
What a silly idea. Make Bill Gates takes Bovaer
Bill Gates have nothing to do with the Bovaer addiditive. He sponsors Rumin8…..another methane reducing additive.
It might be that atmospheric methane is 25 times as potent as CO2, but at 1911 ppb (or 0.0001911% percent of the atmosphere), it far less abundant as the 425 ppm (0.0425%) atmospheric CO2.
The biggest trick is to convince humans made from carbon, that carbon is dangerous.
We need to stop this / this is our chidren problem( cancer etc etc wow
The UK's emissions used to be about 2% of the world's output as far back as 1970. Today it is less than 1%. Do we really need to introduce new, questionable, chemicals into the food chain, to reduce this by a tiny amount more, when the UK has already done so well?
We all have to wake up and boycott every vendor selling this product..we are Not Guinea pigs 👿
All on the back of a lie.
" Sustainable farming " - 😂 what a tosser
They missed the bit where 'that 'Rigorous testing' showed horrific results in mice but somehow it's still ok for humans and the poor cows themselves. Also, could Professor Robin May have looked any more dodgy, with his eye movements, as he said those words?
Who still trusts the science and the experts?
No one
Not me!!!!!
Sheeple!
You’d be mad if you did!
They said the covid jab was safe.
What about the meat from these cows that have to he given this stuff by farmers wearing gloves? I take it it's not fit for consumption. Well, I will be keeping well clear of anything that has consumed this toxic substance.
Problem is it’s a minefield trying to find Bovaer free foods…….its not labelled. Milk is added to virtually every product from biscuits to chocolate……the list is very long. You need to check where dairy products come from by the food code and ask the producer if it contains milk from cows fed with Bovaer and i guarantee, you will only have replies from suppliers whose farmers don’t use it…….its a nightmare!
Free Reiner Fuellmich
Emission of carbon dioxide and methane from cows is a constant factor. With a certain number of cows with a certain production, we get a certain departure of carbon dioxide and methane. Both of which are part of a natural cycle. It is completely irrelevant whether the cycle of carbon dioxide or methane is one year or ten years. The cycle is constant and neither the level of carbon dioxide nor methane in the atmosphere increases as a result of the cows' metabolism. The substances do not accumulate.
Also in Marks & Spencer sadly.
They are one of the worst and not a lot of alternatives to choose from.
You have done a great job of looking at the information that has been provided and then relaying it in a simple to understand way that doesn't hide the facts, you have used some really clear wording in regards to how the chemicals are broken down and how the risks are present when the raw chemical is handled, i hope this video gets more views as it could help to put a lot of minds at ease regarding this issue. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this comment, it really helps in getting the word out there!
The aim for this channel is to break down complex subjects in a simple way so that anyone can understand, so it’s great to know we’re on the right track. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch, welcome to the channel and hope you enjoy the next video!
only suggestion I have is to add your sources in the description, may help those that are prone to believing less reliable sources.
Khazar maffia.
Boycot Arla en Campina!
Not only Arla and Muller but what was the Irish Dairy Board, now Ornua, which is on record as being all-in on the "sustainability" bollox.
