Can we be sure M&S Authentic Greek Yoghurt that Greece is not involved with this awful product or is it just Uk cows? I ask because Gov Uk said the following......Bovaer has been authorised for use globally including in the EU, Australia, Canada and the US.
In the EU the additive was authorised according to Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 on additives for use in animal nutrition in April 2022. Bovaer has more recently been authorised in Canada in January 2024, and in the US in May 2024.... Greece joined the Eu January 81 I think.

I am concerned about the cows being given bovaer because it is interfering with their natural digestion. How do we know it isn't making them feel nauseous, for example? They can't tell us. Why don't they try and eliminate some of the other methane sources, like the mines someone mentioned in the comments, which it seems make a far bigger contribution to the total.

I spoke to a local farmer back in the autumn whose son has recently started a job on a farm supplying chickens and eggs to M&S. He said his son was disgusted to learn both meat and eggs are being packaged as 'Free Range' BUT only a handful of chickens are allowed out round the front of the farm. The rest are crowded into big sheds and are 'barn' reared chickens, never allowed out to forage or exercise or get fresh air - so neither product is actually free range!

They weren’t panicking too much when 800 million cubic metres of methane was released into the atmosphere a few years back. In fact global energy monitor declared Abandoned underground coal mines in the European Union that have closed since 2015 could emit an estimated 298 million cubic meters (MCM) of methane per year, equivalent to the amount of potential emissions leaked from the Nordstream pipeline after the 2022 explosion.
Poland is the top emitter of abandoned mine methane (AMM): Its sixteen mines release an estimated 110 MCM of methane annually, nearly 40% of the EU's total AMM. The Czech Republic (90 MCM) and Germany (55 MCM) rank as the second and third largest AMM emitters without mitigation measures.
Without mitigation, just six mines could account for half (152 MCM) of the methane emissions from all EU’s AMM.

"Valio and Atria were the first in Finland early this year to test Bovaer®, a feed additive made by the Dutch company DSM. The additive has proved to reduce methane emissions produced by cows by 30 percent. The additive has generated promising results in farm trials in Europe and North America. During the 12-week test period, 400 cows at three different Valio dairy farms received feed containing the Bovaer® additive. Bovaer® recently received permission to be marketed in the EU."

    • @stupidhandles

No, the reference just refers to the dairy company that consolidates and distributes the milk. For example arla.
It does not identify the farm.
Arlas sell both organic and none organic milk, that doesn't mean their organic milk contains bovaer, it doesn't as it would be illegal to sell it as organic. (They aren't going to risk the legal costs and fines of doing that)
All the big dairy companies that sell both non-organic and organic will have this "confusion".

You see, they say it doesn’t effect the milk, and I mean it COULD be a coincidence, but before I knew this was happening, I’d been drinking Lactose free milk from Aldi, around 4 months before this was highlighted in MSM, then one night I missed Aldi so got a, ‘Lactofree’ brand bottle (Arla), from Tesco. Anyway, a bottle lasts me around 2.5/3 weeks, and this bottle was like drinking regular pasteurised milk on steroids (!), in terms of it’ effect on my intolerance; horrific bloating and bubbly, churning belly etc. So much so that I spoke about it to my best friend, and by the time I had, ‘switched back’ to the Aldi brand one, a few weeks later, THAT was doing exactly the same! Then it came out about this additive, just after all this and yeah, I couldn’t not wonder?! I’m back on raw milk from Deanery Dairy, Penkridge now. After a small-bowel resection following a triple volvulus I had in 2023, it was the only thing that I could process without pain back then, so I’ve reverted. No negative effects WHATSOEVER, and skin and belly benefits. I don’t think I’m lactose intolerant. I think I’m, ‘over-pasteurised-shite’ intolerant. Clearly. Cos raw milk doesn’t make a bubble. Not a single one. And it’s beautiful tasting too. And the cows are so happy and you can see and interact with them. (And Jeff and his wife are nice too!). Thanks for these videos, the codes are so helpful! 🙏🏼😘😁

Im now boycotting all companies that are complicit in this...even the water i consume is purified. Im glad i got long term foods stocked at home before they did this. I hope their conpanies really feel the loss to their banks and shareholders for what yheyre doing. Keep up the awesome work

Really appreciate what you're doing. Call me cynical but I do wonder now that we've found out about bovaer - what else are they putting in the food chain that we don't know about?

I do like m&s food but they also use rapeseed oil in everything which is really not good for us, its a shame as alot of their other ingredients are good they know how to make things taste good but some ingredients are not food for us

I will never eat meat that has been grown in a lab. I want meat off well-treated animals, not out of a petrie dish.
