  • Most of the bugs are worked out.....at least for now. The log catch table is bent and will need to be repaired along w/ all of the hose leaks once I get this years splitting done.

    Looks really good! I like it a lot.
    My two cents(as always have it today at 1/2 off face value)
    Pipe dope and white Teflon tape are not meant for oil, it breaks them down and causes weeping. There’s a blue(sometimes purple) Teflon tape for use in hydraulic applications. Or blue loctite usually works fine too.
    If you can put up a quick vidja of your gauge mount. I couldn’t quite see it well enough. Are you not getting any needle movement at all on it or just not a lot?
    Mount the engine directly to the frame. Vibration dampening is usually for the operator not the engine. Allowing it to shake is making it vibrate at a different frequency than the frame of the machine therefore loosening the bolts connecting the two.
    Keep up the good work and post more vidjas!
    VODKAS ALL AROUND COMRADE!

      Thanks for the info!!!! I haven't had a problem w/ the vibration since before that vid was posted. I'll make a vid of the gauge location tonight....the needle will jump around when the auto cycle kicks back, but it isn't reading any constant pressure. Strange, b/c a friends splitter has one in the same configuration and his works fine.

      Mike Groat you’re dead heading the cylinder right? Stroked all the way out? Also on its return cycle at that end you’re only reading “return pressure” which should be very little if any. What’s the gauge read up to? I’m just trying to cover it all I often personally overlook the little things and pull my hair out. Hope it helps

    Hey Mike, nice job on the splitter. I assume you have resolved some of your frustrations with it by now. BTW, my name is Tedd, I spoke with you on the phone at Tiffany's Barber Shop today.
    Be Blessed!

    Also the fittings needed for your spool valves are ORB (o-ring boss) fittings and they rely on an o-ring for sealing .I believe they have the same thread pitch as NPT ( national pipe thread) which rely on a small amount of taper .Looks like you may have the wrong fittings in there.

    • @mikegroat7732
      @mikegroat7732  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both valves were ordered w/ NPT threads. I believe you are talking about SAE thread w/ the O ring...and that was a option, but not what I ordered.....not saying that is not what I got....but.... I built another splitter since and used a different sealant and have no leaks on that one. I just need to take the time and re-do the connections on this one. Thank you.

      Glad you figured it out watched so many log splitter videos and saw that most guys are running with o ring style fittings
      Have a good one and keep up the good work

    Hi Mike Great design and love the way you handle the challenges Could you tell me the components needed/used for the auto cycle/auto return.?

      Thank you! Here is the link...Surplus Center. www.surpluscenter.com/Brands/Prince-Mfg/1-Spool-Prince-Auto-Cycle-Log-Splitter-Valve-w-Power-Beyond-9-6587-PB.axdIt is a bit pricey, but I think worth it. This one has power beyond to run the next set of valves, they sell one without PB also.

      @@mikegroat7732 Nice looking splitter Mike. Thanks for the link, unfortunately it's dead now. I just bought a couple 15gal tanks, and a couple radiators, so now I guess I need to build a splitter lol.
      Hope you have a great Christmas.

    on your side wings you only want them beveled on one side like a wood chisel

    • @mikegroat7732
      @mikegroat7732  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good point....I never thought of beveled only on one side. I just figured I had to leave more space below so the wood could move. I have not 'fixed' it...I just leave the wedge down at least an inch when I start the split, then once it starts going, I bump the wedge up so there is space to expand. It isn't perfect, but it works.
