I love Shang Tsung lore-wise, and in the 1995 movie, and in this game he is still cool, I just don't know how to play this version. To be fair his mk11 version is probably the best because his moves in that game were still easy to do and did a lot of damage; plus they got Tagawa back to play him in that game.
Honestly, this game he can be a combo hell character, especially since his old and youth self already can keep you suspended in the air for long combos, but if he faces a character like reptile or subzero who has more interesting mixes that can end strong combos with flair and your opponent questioning if they need to change their play style
I've never been a Shang Tsung fan and I didn't really have any interest in playing him but then I did and WOW! He is by far the funnest character in MK1 for me. When you are doing his combos they just feel swaggy. Going from young to old to playing badminton with their character between your foot and a fireball is just f****** satisfying in all the right ways.

Well this has me conflicted. On the one hand I love that they made Sindel good again instead of just another power hungry traitor that they tend to make almost every evil Female character in MK. On the other hand they kinda nurfed her move set into the ground. Definitely looking forward to part 3.

I mean, that is the problem of just mentioning special and no string. You dont get to know what some characters are good at. Some character is just good at using string. For example, smoke cancel and sindel float can change a lot in her atk string. Or Reptile's string has more gaps to get punish, or Scorpion lacking string to 50 50 and open people,... That is why there are kameo to fill that gap, or open people up, like Kung Lao's low hat or Goro up punch, even reversal like Sareena upkick. Or baraka anti air, only the staby stab is actually a lot useful, and even then you would rarely even use it at all. What im saying is there are more than just special. Characters is not just good because there are good speicals, but they will be good if you exloit their game plan well.
That is the reason why smoke player is not that hard to fight against. Online make their cancel harder to perform, and remove that, with a kameo like sareena that is not useful for opening people, smoke gameplan becomes more easier to predict. That is when other kameo for smoke gets better use than sareena now
That totally makes sense!! Honestly these are meant more as comedy/introduction videos than gull on “how to play” videos. Im admittedly not good enough at fighting games to really tell how good a character is beyond a semi casual level
Nah, special and ultimate moves are the character’s marketing. They tell you what you’re getting in to, and. What the character is about. Talking to people who are out of the loop about combo strings and whatnot doesn’t make for a good intro comedy video. Homie was on the money here.

Shang sung was a really interesting character created from the early days of 1980s arcade machines being so limited so they saved space ect by just making the boss literally all the other characters. A very smart save on resources and unseen anywhere else in other games
I just got the game and started doing Invasion as a way to reteach myself (Haven't gamed in a good while) and Reiko is really fun. "Imma straight double leg you now"!
Reiko is my main hes maybe not so aggressive in gameplay but playing is so SATISFYING. That hes not so fast and aggressive makes hes every punch and kick more impactful its crazy
6:23 for anyone who is considering learning kenshi, just know this tiny little thing. kenshi is the hardest character in the game to play effectively and you’re gonna be spending a lot of time mastering everything he has to offer
As a Sindel main I was VERY concerned after MK11... Because she was so good in that game. Her look, her moves, all of it. So I knew she would be lacking here. Boy they didnt disappoint. She has 1 hair grab and its a throw.... like really? This whole game is trash really. But its not dying!!!

I honestly have to agree Shang shun and Sindel were my mains in MK11, I was so excited to see them in mk1 but when trying them out it just wasn’t worth it, they def downgraded my 2 fave characters.
Tbf MK11 Shang was, by far, his best iteration. You're not wrong that he downgraded in MK1 but he's still insanely strong apart from the almost complete lack of overheads
Shang Tsung is probably what I’d consider the most complicated character in the entire game history. While having his own move set, he can copy his enemies, which means you have to know how to play as nearly every character in the game to truly master him, after also working how Kenshi’s ability, Tsung’s extra fighting style… all of it! Guaranteed to be the most complicated character!
Shang Tsung is truly a troll the reason he turns into his opponent is to say he uses their skills better than them as he gets a damage buff according to the Kombat Kast he was featured in

As a professional Shang Tsung stan I can tell you that none of us like his MK1 playstyle much.... some dislike it more than others. Outside of his zoning he has nothing, which is crazy when you go back to MK11 where you could make him a zoner, a close-up fighter, or both, and he would still be good at both. You could even sacrifice his changing ability to get all the ninja moves... Yes, it's stolen from Chameleon, but who cares honestly. MK1 Shang's only really useful moveset is when he's in the old form, and even then it's just zoning. He's needlessly complicated, boring, and most importantly, too young and bratty-looking, for a Shang Tsung 😥

Sindell’s levitate is meant to be timed as a combo extender like bellowing banshee from the last game I’ve seen some people use it really well
