We travelled so many miles over the summer and autumn, and I had so much footage to edit, but I'm glad now that I can warm people up watching the videos while it's cold outside! 😊
That's a gorgeous canal. I love the sandstone cliffs. I felt sorry for Pete out in the rain while manoeuvering the boat into that lock. I'm looking forward to your journey onto the Llangollen Canal . Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it Neil! It really is a beautiful stretch, and far prettier than the northern section of the Staffs & Worcester in our opinion. We had been promised that by friends and were not disappointed at all, except with the rain perhaps! 😊
Thanks Caroline and Pete - great how you have given history along the way. The Staff and Worcs is certainly one of our favourite canals. Wish us luck on Thursday as we do our hour and half long narrowboat presentation at a +55 community in Phoenix where we are currently snowbirding. Your vlog is certainly getting a big mention.
Our pleasure, it's always great to hear you've enjoyed it! I remember you saying quite a while ago about the narrowboating talk you were planning, and now it's almost here. Good luck, can't wait to hear how it goes. Send them all our way, it will be lovely to have everyone join us on our travels! I'm currently visiting our daughter Sophie in Wisconsin, where it's currently -14ºF/-26ºC, and probably the lowest temperatures I have ever experienced! 🥶
@ Hi, we are actually heading back to Calgary this evening for 36 hours - it is a long story - and we are dreading that run/slip and slide out to the car. We have our fingers crossed there are no flight delays coming back to Phoenix late on Wednesday evening. We will certainly check in with you as to how the presentation goes. Enjoy your visit to your daughter.
I agree Josh is brilliant with his drone footage and you can tell he's kind of enjoying himself and loving the new attention he's getting,it's his birthday this week and he's had lots of gifts and cards bless him ❤
Oh it's been so wonderful for him and his channel. We are so happy for him to get so much well-deserved recognition now for his great coverage of the catastrophic event 😊

Always good to hear you have enjoyed it Susan! As you can see, Hamish can move quickly and be quite athletic for his age when there's the promise of food! Hope you and your mum are feeling a bit better 😊
I made myself wait till bedtime to watch this episode. Because they are a treat. I love to glimpse in the backyards as you go along and of course your walk abouts.
Poppy is so excited now that she can see the banks clearly, and the mere possibility of a squirrel, that she can’t not stand in the best spot to watch from. Meanwhile, Hamish, feeling perfectly safe, just naps away without a care in the world.
You can really tell that she's so happy back to where she can see everything that's going on again can't you! And Hamish is just happy to carry own sleeping, unless there's the sniff of food around! Thanks for watching 😊
Always wonderful to see what you are doing and seeing! Those pups are such fun to watch! We have a 17 Yr old Norwich Terrier! We are great full for the beautiful years❤️Be safe and enjoy your journey💓
Lovely to hear you're enjoying the videos! How wonderful, love Norwich terriers, they are so similar to the westies. Do they have the same stubborn attitude as wastes at times!?
I remember moving from the Cotswolds to near Leicester & not having a clue what a Cob was ! Greetings from a stinking hot Perth (43c) Western Australia. Simon
Just been reading about the super high temperatures in Australia! Our first summer on board it was 40ºC for a couple of days. We found a Rina and plugged into shore line power so that we could use fans and not worry about the energy consumption! Isn't it funny how you can drive an hour and things have different names! 😊
Glad Pete got the boat unstuck pretty rapidly. Unfortunately, it was very wet though. Rain at the most inopportune time. That's a very neat canal with that sandstone wall and it's very jungle like in some places. Hamish does get pretty bouncy for food. ❤
His patience paid off Dorothy, with little movements backwards and forwards to get himself out of that predicament! As you can see, I'm a proud fair-weather boater, especially when we are not in a hurry to be anywhere! Such a beautiful canal, and you'll see even more so in the next couple of videos, especially Bratch Locks coming up 😊
Ahhh, back to the peace and tranquility of the canals 🙂, I don't think that I've seen Hamish so active, he is certainly looking like the elderly statesman now, well done Pete as always, I mean a delay of several minutes on the canal could be disastrous 😂😂😂, keep safe, Nige.
Exactly our thoughts Nigel, far easier to just more up wherever we wanted when the rain came! Hamish is definitely most active when there’s the promise of food 😂😊
Back on the canals and off those big wide rivers, I bet you relaxed a bit more until the suez incident. Love to still see Pete looking back at the bridges he’s just come under. He always looks so happy. Mooring up in the rain because you said you’re stoping……the boss has spoken 🤣. Lovely cruise again and seeing Poppy and Hamish waiting for treats from Pete’s lunch was so sweet. Xx
Definitely a far more relaxing experience on the canals, and I'm so glad I wasn't at the helm for the Suez experience. Can you imagine how 'calm' Pete would have been! And yes, I'm a fair-weather cruiser and proud of it 😂 See you soon 😊
After being on the river - a bit of a shock being on the narrow canal. Like the canals better, more scenic and fun to see all those low bridges. Hope the puppies / family and you are doing well. Hit -14F with wind chills of -23F. More wind tonight but only -2F but feels worst due to the wind. Take care, Be safe. The boss and Spinner
It was quite the change Spinner, and getting used to low bridges, sharp bends and narrow locks all over again! But so much easier to find somewhere to moor up for the evening when it started raining! I've come on a last minute trip to see Sophie in Wisconsin, so here for the coldest temperatures I think I've ever experienced, but thankfully all of the buildings are warm! Stay warm 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Glad you could 'sneak' in and see her. Yes it was colder up there. Think -18 or so near our friends living near the Dells. Snowing here today, not much, maybe a inch or 2. Enjoy the visit. Be warm and stay safe. Boss and Spinner
Your ‘Suez’ situation reminded me of our embarrassing foray into the reeds on the Norfolk Broads last year. It only took a few moments distraction in trying to get one of our dog’s life jacket on to do it. Fortunately, we got towed off by another boat before the tide started to drop. I had visions of the boat tipping sideways as the tide went out, which could have been disastrous. At last you don’t have the tide to contend with on the canals. On the other hand, we don’t need to bother with locks. 😊
I saw you both turn up with coal and stuff for Josh at the breach a few weeks back which was a lovely thing to do , luckily it's now starting to get filled up again now ,but it was bitterly cold that day you and Pete turned up 🥶 I really enjoy your vlogs the camera work is exceptional ❤
Thanks for your kind words Barbara! When we really the Taylors were only an hour's drive away we just jumped in the car with supplies and headed over! That was only the second day of the breach, and it's so good to see that the canal is now being refilled using the temporary coffer dams, and they will be able to move very soon. Josh has done such a wonderful job keeping everyone updated, and at last his stunning drone footage had been getting the high audience it deserves! 😊
I totally agree! I have been editing this video while on a last minute trip to see our daughter in Wisconsin, with the coldest temperatures I have ever experienced I think. It's -14ºF/-26ºC today 🥶
I mustsay tgat Pete was amazingly calm when trying to extricate himself from the Suez situation. Well done, you. That last lock with the high turbulence seems a bit dicey. When you guys first started out on your boating life, I bet both of those situations would have caused quite the nervousness, eh?
Wasn't he so calm Leigh! Far more so than I would have been at the helm. I was happy just to watch and video in the pouring rain. And yes, those situations would have panicked us far more at the start of this journey. We have learnt to be a lot more patient, and things usually work themselves out. How is your weather today? I've been sent so many photos of snow in Friendswood today, and everywhere is closed! Meanwhile, I am on a last minute trip to see Sophie in Wisconsin, with the coldest temperatures I have ever experienced I think, at -14ºF/-26ºC 🥶
@onedaymoreaboard wish I could send you pics from today. The snow has been beautiful and there is a surprising amount of it. Having grown up in the mountains of upstate NY, it rather felt like Christmas morning. Of course it helps that I didn't have to drive in it, which would not have been pretty. Most people here seem to have heeded warnings not to drive. I hope all well with Sophie. The coldest temps I ever recall growing up were -37° during January. I must tell you, Caroline, it's very hard to warm up from that! Hope you don't turn into a Carolinesicle. Safe travels. I know tgat Pete Poppy and Hamish will miss you.
Wow -37º that's crazy! I can't believe all the snow photos I've seen form the Houston area. A proper covering with everyone building snow men! No wonder all the shcools were closed, it's not set up for snow is it ❄️
That was another nice cruise. I appreciate seeing all the green and flowers along the way while we are in the dead of winter. There were quite a few beautiful old bridges and some narrow corners to navigate. What are the large black pipes used for, do you know? Thanks for another informative vlog. Hope you have a good week. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it Heidi! Sometimes it pays to be so far behind with editing all of our footage from our summer and autumn travels, watching beautiful warm weather and lush greenery in the depths of winter. Those pipes across the canal lead to the sewage works close by. 😊
Did not look like that wash/were could have that much power. But like most things, looks are deceiving. And Hamish, most of us get happy over the possibility of food LOL. Poppy does so love her perch.
It really was deceiving Becki, you never really can tell what's going on under the water! Hamish is so funny when there is the vague hint of food around, and perks up no end! 😊
Fabulous film and music as usual - the canal was obviously very twisty and at times seemed very overgrown. Pete will have to teach me the secret of keeping the paintwork so beautiful. Wombourne which I guess is in the next video is where we met you for lunch. Brrrr sounds cold where you are - we’re experiencing 43 degrees here in Perth.
Glad you enjoyed it as always Swanny! Pete does do a great job of keeping the boat paintwork looking good, and Im sire he'll share his secrets with you! Yes, you're right, Wombourne is up next. I've been reading about the crazy hot temperatures in Australia right now. Imagine our first summer on the boat with 2 days of 40ºC in a steel tube with no A/C 🥵
That’s such a beautiful canal. Those cliffs and the earlier stone walls are lovely especially with the greenery spilling over them. Your boat always looks so sleek and shiny against, even in the rain. A testament to regular cleaning and polishing!
It really is such a beautiful canal, and we are so glad we finally got to travel it. It really did live up to the promises. I have to give credit to Pete for the upkeep of the outside of the boat, he does a great job keeping it looking shiny and almost new 😊
You’d think the doggies never get fed 😂. Glad Pete was able to steer himself out of that sticky situation. Thanks for all the historical information as you travel 👍🥰
You really would wouldn't you! Especially Hamish, he is totally ruled by his stomach! I'm so glad I wasn't at the helm during the Suez experience, Pete did a far better job than I would have done! Glad you're enjoying the videos 😊
Lovely video as always. Looking forward to visiting that part of the system as it looks so pretty. Some of those bywashes are really horribly tricky, brings back memories of the Tyrley Locks! 🙈😂
Always lovely to hear you've enjoyed the videos! You'll be seeing those fierce Tyrley by-washes very soon as we head up the Shroppie in a few episodes time, and boy were they fierce thanks to so much rain 🙁
Quite an impressive sight cruising through the sandstone. Our cruise up the Shroppie is coming up very soon, but it's not the wonderful experience we had before, which was quite disappointing really. We are planning to head down again, as we never been in that direction, when we leave the Llangollen heading in the general direction of the Crick Boat Show, and hopefully it will be able to redeem itself! 😊
Getting stuck diagonally across the canal, yep been there done that, strong cross wind and fast by wash not a lot you can do to stop it, at least you have bow thrusters to help, didn’t have those on my boat 25 years ago. Thanks for sharing your travels 👏🏻
You're so welcome Jon, we are glad you can join us! It's so hard to avoid isn't it, when you are at the mercy of the wind and the by-washes. The bow thrusters did their job in getting us out of that situation far quicker though 😊
Another great vid to Brighton up a grim January evening. We really like the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal and you dix a great job filming your journey ❤❤
Strange watching you on our home turf. We were naming all the landmarks. The random 'arm' you went past would have gone to the railway that went to Stourport from Hartlebury and onto Bewdley in the early 70's, until the mass closure of railways. We live a bit further along from where you moored for the night. Just opposite Caldwall Bridge. You'll hopefully show that in your next video!
That must add another level of interest when you know the area so well Tanya! Thanks for the extra information about the perfect mooring arm that we passed. I'm just editing the next video now, with the lovely canalside apartment complex close to Caldwell Bridge. Is that it? 😊
@onedaymoreaboard we are over the road from that little gated community. You can see our house from the bridge through the gates. There is a right of way through the gates to the canal.
It's so beautiful Jacquie! Friends had recommended that stretch, as we had only don't the northern section from Great Haywood to the Shroppie before, and we weren't disappointed! Can't wait until we cross paths with you both one day! 😊
I don't believe I've ever seen that canal on any other boating vlog. It certainly has some interesting bridges. And then those very Southwest US sandstone cliffs! What a trip! Glad Pete was able to navigate out of his sticky spot but what can boaters do when they run into a situation they can't extricate themselves from? I've seen swamped hulls and huge trees fallen into the canals. Things that are simply beyond the resources of mere boaters.
It's such a beautiful canal Rainey! We have travelled the northern section, but this was our first time on the southern section. We had high hopes for it from what friends had told us, and we were not disappointed. You'll see even more of its beauty in the next couple of episodes and Bratch Locks in particular are just lovely. Thankfully we have never been in a situation (yet, fingers crossed) that we haven't been able to get ourselves out of, but we have helped others that have been stuck, by grabbing a rope or even one time when two boats were wedged in a bridge hole, towing them out with our boat! Always a different adventure every day! 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard I've seen you lend a helping hand and I know others do it happily as well. But there must be emergencies that require special equipment and experienced teams -- like if a boat gets caught on a cill in a lock. Who would you be able to reach out to for quick assistance so one emergency doesn't shut down a whole section of a canal?
There is an emergency number for the Canal & River Trust, but I have known people to call the fire service and place first for far more immediate action. the specialist knowledge of the CRT is a big help in certain situations though for sure 😊
You're so welcome Paul! Pete was using the bow thruster in short bursts, but even that was hard with the underwater strength of the by-wash pushing him back over. We use the bow thruster quite sparingly as it depletes quickly, and was even known to blow the fire when we first used it and didn't;t know what we were doing! 😮
Absolutely love the channel (Subscribed) but can I ask that you both put a mic on please! It's so frustrating as I think you both have them! There are large parts of the vids that are spoilt! Hope this doesn't upset you both because i love the channel but of late I have not been watching because I can't hear you. Best, Craig.
It’s so good to hear that you love the channel Craig, and I have to agree that the audio on the last few videos has been so frustrating. I was actually using a good quality (Rode) external microphone on my phone, with a wind muff, which I didn’t find out until I came to download all the footage for editing and a lot of research, that the model I have had a firmware issue causing an awful static crackle on the audio. I’ve done the best I can to rescue the footage by adjusting audio levels manually in the editing software, and where it was just not possible, removing the original audio completely and adding a music track. As you know, it’s our diary of our travels and I didn’t just want to ditch so many days/weeks of footage when I was using the faulty microphone. We had so many very windy days travelling, especially on the rivers and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, that I thought using the mic with the wind muff was a good choice, but now I know it was the worst possible choice!! Anyway there’s just a little background so you can understand why it’s been so bad of late. We now have lapel mics that you will be seeing in the 2025 footage when I have caught up with myself. Thanks for sticking with us. It’s been a very steep learning curve! 😊
I explained a couple of weeks ago about our ‘singing’ propeller when you commented about the distracting noise, and as this was filmed a few months ago the situation hasn’t changed. As I said before, it’s the cost that is putting us off as it’s going to be about £250-300 to take out boat out of the water to grind down the propeller blades a little. There is nothing mechanically wrong with it. It works just fine, but the singing is caused by the blades being too perfect. We also need to be close to a marina that offers the service, which is a few days cruise away, but not possible at the moment due to winter closures. When we have the money to spend and we are close to a marina that can do it for us then we will get the situation sorted. It’s not as easy as having a car and driving it to somewhere quickly and easily to get it fixed. Thanks for watching 👍
Yes so many I follow are still before Xmas and in the sunshine 😂
We travelled so many miles over the summer and autumn, and I had so much footage to edit, but I'm glad now that I can warm people up watching the videos while it's cold outside! 😊

Thanks so much as always Gail. Always lovely to hear you've enjoyed it 😊
Lovely video as always.
I went to school in N. Staffs and all the rocks were that red sandstone which they carved the canal out of. It's really beautiful, like the Shroppie.
Great video as always nice meeting you today
Thanks Colin! Good to meet you too, we've followed your page on Facebook. Great photos! 😊
Another great vid to Brighton up a grim January evening. We really like the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal and you dix a great job filming your journey ❤❤
Thanks as always! It's such a beautiful stretch, and reminded us allot of the Stratford Upon Avon Canal. We loved Bratch Locks too! 😊
Scary moment there ! We have a mini version of those sandstone cliffs in Armitage, just by Hawkesyard Priory.
You're right Gill! It wasn't the most fun manoeuvre especially in the pouring rain. Those sandstone cliffs were quite impressive 😊
Thank you for sharing this video. I did get a bit worried when you were doing the Suez but all's well in the end. Take care and stay safe 😊
You're so welcome Yvonne! Not the best experience, especially in the pouring rain, but at least we weren't blocking any other boaters! 😊
Glad you Manage to get the boat lined up with the lock after getting stuck.😊
That by-wash and the shallow sides were causing such problems, but we were relived when Pete's patience paid off! Thanks for watching
I'm happy to get my fresh air fix a day early 😂😂😂❤
Thats good to hear Barbara! I'm just trying to get them out as soon as they are ready, to try and catch up with myself again 😊
I will keep a look out for it while I'm editing that section, not sure if I captured it or not 😊
Here in West Yorkshire the bread rolls are called Teacakes. It fascinates me how different regions have different names.
It really is fascinating isn't it Jill, that you can drive an hour and things have different names! A teacake too me is a currant bun! 😊
Beautiful as always xxx
Thanks so much Jackie, glad you enjoyed it 😊
great vlog cranking it on the cut cranking it thanks for share
Thanks for watching Lee, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Love this canal we are so looking forward to doing this. Super vlog ❤❤❤
It's so beautiful Jacquie! Friends had recommended that stretch, as we had only don't the northern section from Great Haywood to the Shroppie before, and we weren't disappointed! Can't wait until we cross paths with you both one day! 😊
Thanks 😃
You're so welcome 😊
Heard bad winds coming, stay safe
We moved away from the trees we were moored close to in preparation for the storm and just waiting it out now 😊
I don't believe I've ever seen that canal on any other boating vlog.
Thankyou once again for the history and tour. Wouldn't the bow thruster have overcome the Suez issue?
You're so welcome Paul! Pete was using the bow thruster in short bursts, but even that was hard with the underwater strength of the by-wash pushing him back over. We use the bow thruster quite sparingly as it depletes quickly, and was even known to blow the fire when we first used it and didn't;t know what we were doing! 😮
The Roof Repair on that Lock Keepers Cottage must have been carried out by a Blind Roofer!
Wow, you're right! I hadn't even noticed while we were there, or while I was editing! Thanks for watching 😊
Hello there, what kind of pipes are those @ 15:45 ?
They are sewage pipes leading to the nearby sewage farm. Thanks for watching 😊
That was a bit of a wet one .
Just a little John! And I'm such a fair weather cruiser if we don't have to be anywhere in a hurry! Thanks for watching 😊
❤Xx
Thanks Edward! 😊
Your boat shaft still squeaking. It's about time to fix it. Bother a lot for your voice we are listening to.
