  • In 2022 Andrew Schulz released his comedy special "Infamous" directly to his fans through his website. However, he soon released it free on TH-cam after his fans had paid to watch it through his website.
    This video explores how comedians are racing to offend people for free publicity and the fake cancellation narratives they try to push.

    "Punching down" isnt a term created by suits and producers. its literally from a George Carlin quote about why he didnt like Andrew Dice Clay. Carlin said Clay was a coward because if youre doing social commentary comedy, its easy to punch down at people with less agency in society and that a good comedian punches up at the systems. the whole thing is short hand for "Dont go after people, go after ideas and systems" how does Schulz not know this. its like the 4th most memorable thing Carlin ever said.

    Got an idea for a video. You should dive into Matt Rifes recent "controversy". I think he made it all up. Nobody of any seriousness complained about the one joke but je talked about it nonstop and even went on Jordan Peterson talking about it. It was clearly a made up controversy so he could slide into the "adult comedy" crowd instead of tik tok. If you read the comments of the JP interview thousands of people were commenting they don't like his comedy but will forever support him to fight "cancel culture".

    • @GhostfaceRuga
      @GhostfaceRuga 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I thought this about Rifes situation as well. Even the few tweets of people tweeting at him upset that you can find, were accounts with little activity that had been freshly created. Even searching YT and Tik Tok I couldn’t find any videos of commentary from people that were upset, only videos of people covering the “controversy”. Weird.

      I actually think Christina P has suffered the most from this professionally even if it’s been objectively good for her career and probably even mental health… there’s something actually very specifically and profoundly un-relatable about building a very niche fanbase podcasting… Kyle Kinane brought it up in his post-Covid special how he needs “the checks and balances of a human interaction” to consistently produce good material rather than “little weird manifestos”

    One of the most obnoxious characteristics all of these “hype” comedians share is that the scam is never-ending. They’re successful businessmen, but they are NOT funny or innovative. They’re not pushing any boundaries, they’re not exploring any new material or shining light on anything particularly dark or taboo. They all shill the same generic pablum and they really think they’re pioneers of the new counter-culture. I don’t watch any of these schmucks on their own shows, but I’m very aware of who they are. These hacks never met a sponsor they didn’t like, and “edginess” isn’t funny in a vacuum. Material will ALWAYS be king.

Saying “punching down” is basically saying that certain races or ethnicities or sexual orientations are inherently superior to others by making certain topics are off limits to certain groups. The problem here is Chappell didnt knock down Shultz for doing clips. He didn't think doing crowd work and putting those as clips is the same thing as what he does. That is, Chappell does not think crowd work is comedy, he doesn't have an issue with using shorts.
    That is the difference, Shultz's special was in the same format as an other comedian at the end of the day, but his rise to fame was his crowd work. Then Akaash started to do crowd work and he did it in a way that was to his flavor and it has worked.
    Yeah, I went to the special he put on youtube and I have seen some people say sarcastically that Andrew put the special out for free after a month and is promoting gambling in the middle of it. But for the most part people are saying it is fine.
    I think there is something off about doing that. It seems like a scam, but to knock on Andrews viewing numbers because of this is debatable. I think there are more issues than what he did with the special.
