The architectural profession is one of the last to give in to the digital revolution. We love our hand drawings, T square, rolls of tracing paper, pen, and markers. By the end of the day, my wastebasket is full of failed design sketches...Now I use 24-inch Wacom tablets, iPad Pro, Surface Pro, PS, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Sketchbook Pro, and 3DS Max. But something special about hand drawings is lost in the digital revolution. Freehand drawings are an art form from concept sketches to working drawings. It is worth preserving this vanishing art form... NCARB Arch.

Thanks for this awesome video! I was a bit hesistant in considering in going digital as I was more familiar with the traditional way of architectural drawing. But then your video convinced me to invest in it as it will make things much easier! Thank you so much!

Hey Zion, I really believe my foundation in traditional media has made me a better digital artist, and think it's still important to have a good sense of some physical materials/ drawing tools. For example, as an architect I am often in design workshops at the client's office and need to draw across a big sheet of paper to explain things to everyone in the room.

I am sold. I believe in drawing .. but lately lack os space for my drawing board took me to go this way ... although I went to a XP-pen 24 pro for 630€ from factory was a great deal compared to the wacom. off course I don't hope to be the quality level of the wacom, but allows me for this ... draw on a screen .. the possibilities are endless. But was not aware how photoshop could be so powerfull for this specific architectural workflow.

bloody hell.. i believe i have found the mother-load. “i believe digital sketching is the future of our profession.”
i have been saying that for over 10 years.. Even before getting into Arch school.
Not long after i was able to afford my 1st Intuos 4XL + the classic Pen.
unfortunately, i am only now beginning to get into sketching ON the screen, directly..with the iPad. Never got a Cintiq..and specially never got into Photoshop. Only Lightroom.. :/
So,..hopefully with the help of your videos.i will catch up on lost time.
    Any recommendation?
i got the regular iPad, but was thinking of getting the 12.9” version.
should i go for the 2017, or the 2018 version?
i also use ArchiCAD, and Affinity Photo.
    thanks very much, for this.
    it’s right up my alley.
    Cheers from Portugal.

haha glad someone agrees with me! The firm I work for is about to make the big switch from Adobe to Affinity products. I've been using Photoshop since 1994, so it's a bit hard for me to let it go. Will probably make some Affinity videos soon as I'm up to speed with their suite. For 3D, I use sketchup most of the time, 3DMax for more complex geometries, but all the kids seem to be using Rhino these days

Can you use morpholio trace software on a cintique. It is a digital drafting table software for the ipad. Morpholio is only available for the iPad so you will have to connect the iPad to the cintique. I connected my iPad air to the cintique for a bigger screen but could not edit using the cintiqe. Or perhaps maybe the iPad Pro will only work with thew cintique?

Hi. I want to switch from paper to digital sketching, but Im not sure whether to buy a Wacom tablet, an iPad or just a pen and a wacom pad for my computer. What do you suggest?

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Keep in mind there is still a place for physical paper in our profession. Digital sketching doesn't fully replace it, it just enhances the process. But for your first tool, I'd recommend an iPad, its just so versatile and mobile. It has replaced my physical sketchbook and planner.

I really liked the video, great explanation. I'am a architecture student and still doubting if I need the touch version or not, saw some reviews that the touch system is not that precise, do you have the same problem, or do you have the pen only?
Could you please send me the presets of the brushes and colors? It would really help me getting started when I have it.
I could not find your email on your channel, thus therefore this message.
Some tutorials in the future would be nice how you built up certain drawings.
Keep up the good work and looking forward to your future videos.

Thanks! Yeah I agree, the touch features on my Wacom (Cintiq 27QHD) are completely worthless. It is slow and clunky, and I leave it turned off. Misleading isn't the right word, it's all a matter of preference. I used an Intuous for about a year before I tried the Cintiq. And once I switched I never looked back. But now most of my sketching is actually on the iPad. There is a big difference in sketching directly on the surface you're looking at.
