- These old photographs of my hometown Dundee, Scotland have no name because i'm not too sure where most of them are located but decided to upload them and share them with you all. After adding this classic tune to accompany the pictures, i really think it was worthwhile, i hope you agree folks... such a beautiful song to view Dundee by our beloved city thank you
Yes tears were flowing listening to the song and remembering a time that will never return.
Some good black and white pictures of Dundee there. I like the old lorries, cars, vans and trucks.
Loved the photo of St, John's in Albert Street. My dad was the Minister there from 1949 till the 1980's. Wonderful memories. Thank you.
Ta..... very emotional looking at these long passed away places... well done. ... as for the music very good choice , a favourite of mine
fantastic. i recognise most of them. thank you
I think I recognised more than 50%. I'm 72 next birthday. 👍 😎
0:35 St David's High Kirk with the entrance to the Law railway tunnel visible in bottom right of the shot
Great Vid and great soundtrack to go wth it. Havney got a scooby doo but the church at 1.48m rings a bell. lol
Quite a few in the lochee area, as you can see the beechwood chimney tower in the background.
What is that music ! Excellent love it goes well with the film !
@blinkypoo The Dundee to Newtyle railway, which ran through the tunnel, was the first passenger railway in Scotland and the station was in Ward Road.
You can still see where the track ran up Drummond Street.
The first picture is Lady Mary's Fair which was around Yeoman Shore. One or two are of The Vaults, the area behind the old Town House which was demolished to allow the building of the Caird Hall and City Square. Thanks for posting these marvellous photographs!
@hunga224---1:14 St mathews church broty ferry road--there was a cooperage works behind it,commonly known as the barley,it was on st mathew street, also known as mathews brae.
1:16 Caledon shipyard ,outside the blacksmiths shop.
Hate the music , which I switched off but lived the memories
0:27 Looks like Edward Street (Eddies Brae) off Blackness Road. Blackness foundry on RH side
2:23 Caledon shipyard, working on the tank top of a ship--notice the cloth safety helmets, which were compulsary in those days.
These photo's are indeed all taken in Dundee and are all 100%... Thanks for taking a little time to view these wee belters though...SHABBA x
Loved the music & pictures, but would like to know how you know they are all from Dundee?
Nice - thanks for the upload - I've always been interested in old Dundee. Going to show my gran this - she's 93 so I think she'll know where most of the places are.
I was also unable to recognise most of the areas pictured here. I wonder if the photos are actually all Dundee views?
I'm sure the Dundee Library would be interested in these rare photos.
1:25 is the building behind the high school of dundee
@241244 It looks like the church next to the old tram shed at 1.47 is St. Luke's Parish Church in High Street Lochee.
Had great time trying to figure out where these places were! However, as I was born in Lochee, I know for certain that 0.56 is the South Road and 1.47 is the old tram shed in Lochee beside the church whose name I can`t remember. What a sorry state Lochee is in now - not much life left! Thanks for posting!
Great response to this wee slideshow folks. Thanks for filling in some of the blanks.
A disgrace , what was done to Dundee in the '60's. Especially the beautiful West Station in the last picture, demolished by vandalous philistines to make way for...the Tay bridge spaghetti junction. It still hurts.
the church at 3.05 is on albert st and is still there
My mother and her parents lived in Lawrence St. They had a sweetie shop and lived above the shop .... John and Mary ROY.
Ma hametoon. Goin thru major changes now. Just saw footage of The Overgate in 1964.
It went thru yearsa neglect it'll be a major buildin site til 2030. Yea it wis a shithole when ah grew up in it good tae see it change.
In the last photo you can see the West Station in the background and the Mather's Hotel.
Albion lorry in the foreground (could be my dads!)
Looks like Riverside Drive near to the Tay ferry terminal.
@AmFearLiathMor and everyone who posted in with details...Much appreciated. Ta!
hooly dundee What do you mean you have no idea where the pictures were taken? Surely a lot of they buildings and streets still exist.
Revolver sadly no the city was all but demolished during the 60's in the name of "progress" next to none of auld Dundee exists now
You are not permitted to take photo's of the High Kirk. Why not? Because it's against the Law.
Hahaha 😂😂😂😂😂
home
are there any pics of the hilltown on this ?
nice 1 pal al the best fae ian
hooly ross here i think i need to ask my dad about most of them. i do recognise a few but that it only o few i do hope other people post comments coz im dying to find out more 153secs definitely the church hall on princes street next to boomerang
I live in Dundee scotland
At 1:25 it's Meadowside and Meadowside Bldg on R/H side. Was for years HQ of Jute/Sidlaw Industries. Now flats, perhaps some businesses? At 2:40 you can see the tower of the old West Station. Which was very near to the present Taybridge station. All the buildings to left & right in foreground are long gone. The road is configured totally differently. The buildings at the front of mid-distance are all gone too. But I'm 99% sure that you can see the tower structure of the new Malmason Hotel still in place. The rest are a mystery.
at 2:30 is the wellgate, with claude alexander's bottom left, looking up the wellgate you can see the unusual shape of the wellgate steps, and then the hilltown behind.
Dundee all the way
