I guess you haven't heard Juan Diego Flórez, Lawrence Brownlee, or Javier Camareno--all quite a bit better in this repertoire.

Too bad Michael wasn't around in the early to mid 50's, when Callas was in her prime! He sings the Bel Canto repertoire with the same precision, power, fluid line, artistry and drama as she did. What a duo the two would have been!!!
Art Danks just discovering this brilliant artist today and had the exact same thought about Maria Callas. What a duo they would have been in so many different operas. Sadly, I am not taken by contemporary opera singers, but this man, along with Flores, gives me great hope.
@@stephenfletcher6801 . I only recently heard of him myself and was really thrilled with his abilities. And, like you, there are so few modern day singers that I have been impressed with. It seems like an entirely different type of vocal instruction has sadly replaced what had always worked for many generations. Thank goodness for the many recordings we have.
He would not be heard if singing together with Callas! Her voice would drown his half-falsetto voice without even trying.
How funny, I actually thought the same!
This performance is so very much better than Flores. The vocal quality is so much rounder and less pinched.

Sento sempre un suono di chi usa i muscoli del collo... bravissimo nei colori e le agilità. Canta un tantino indietro
C'e' qualcuno che ci spega perche' Flores e' piu' gettonato di Spyres? Flores non vale il tacco di Spires, ha pure il quadruplo del volume e in teatro e' una valanga di suoni e colori.
Perché senti gli acuti , ancora non escono completamente. Dai non dirmi che non te ne accorgi...eè chiarissimo...la voce va benissimo è bella migliore di quella di Juan Diego, ma non so perchè i suoi acuti nascono con certa timidezza e quando dovrebbero raggiungere la tappa adulta rimango sempre timidi
@@Jeff4014, io l'ho ascoltato dal vivo diverse volte, gli acuti girano benissimo e sono molto sonori e senza sforzo alcuno. Inoltre molto piu' virile e quindi credibile non ostante abbellimenti ecc ecc. Flores sembra una bambinella sperduta.

Ermenegildo no se de que mascara Ud habla si es refiriendose a la impostacion, pero este tenor tiene lo que JDF nunca tendra , un color de voz PRECIOSO y sabe que , eso nace ; ademas de tener un fraseo insuperable, porque Rossini es Bell Canto y se canta con el fraseo propio del bellcanto no como lo hace su estrella favorita, o mejor dicho como lo hacia porque su forzada voz va para atras como el cangrejo. Ahora esta Camarena arranzando. Ahi se la dejo.
Ellatigojusticiero Es cuestión de gustos. Ambos tienen desde mi perspectiva voces hermosísimas y privilegiadas. Juan Diego es considerado el mejor tenor Rossiniano de todos los tiempos y eso no lo cambiará alguien a quien no le guste su voz. Sin embargo este señor es un espectáculo. Ojalá y su nombre empiece a sonar entre los grandes porque lo es.
+Richard Mendoza errór el mejor rossiniano fue ramón Vargas... PD hay mucho mejor tenores del que tu mencionas y que yo menciono...
+S. Pelletier hablo no de gusto si no de lo que dice el mundo, pero si hablamos de mejores hay asiáticos que le dan una y mil patadas a los que mencionamos.
Ha pasado el tiempo y los verdaderamente entendidos ya lo han dicho Robert Blake, el mejor Rossiniano. JDF, se apoyo mucho en una epoca en donde los medios hicieron mucho por su fama. Intenet, DVD, etc. No fue el caso de Blake.
Belcanto es con una sola L. Arrasando es con S, no Z. Y Spyres hace los agudos con falsete reforzado. Se oye en los videos y se oye en directo. Esto son hechos, y puede aceptarlos o no, allá usted

Linda voz, los agudos y sobreagudos aun deben salir mas en la mascara, como lo hace JDF.
Para ser sincero, yo no tomaría como referencia JDF para este rol. Otros tenores rosinianos lo hacen mucho mejor que él.
Florez too nasal, too bright. Not real opera sound.
Spyres doesn't have really high notes. He sings and rings in the throat and not on the lips. I mean, he can’t sing well. He’s definitely overrated. Who knows what group he belongs to in order to sing, in many theaters. (singing for Spyres is just an exaggeration...hum...) Well, if he only sings in the USA, then that explains everything.
Have you ever heard him live? Because I have and he is always the loudest on the stage :)
