Here's what's funny: A leaker, who successfully predicted the release of both Hero and Steve, decided to share some insight as to why Smash Ultimate developers were not willing to bite on Geno. This is purely hearsay, but it generally seems to be the fact that the devs... didn't really know *why* people wanted Geno to be added into Smash. All they really got was that they wanted him in - they didn't want a new game featuring him, or even a remake - the general outcry just seemed to be to "put him in". Again, this is pure hearsay and could be nonsense, but I think it's interesting enough to contribute.
I bet the performance of the Mario RPG remake will be the deciding factor on whether or not Geno gets in. It'll show Nintendo if people really care about the game and its characters or if the Geno fans are just a mob who don't ask why they want him.
@@Chilly_M04it'll turn the character of Geno from obscure forgotten character to a relevant modern character. More exposure to him in an actual game can only be a good thing to help his chances
@@Shyontheinternet99 After Melee, the idea of "obscure" characters being added to Smash seemed more likely, since at the time, lots of people in the West didn't know what the hell a Fire Emblem was. This likely made people think that characters perceived as "obscure" were more likely to get in at the time. Of course, the playable characters never were actually obscure, and once Fire Emblem started getting popular in the West, people started knowing who the characters actually were.
I mean this in the best way, your channel reminds me of old TH-cam, like 2008-2014. It's very refreshing, I love it.
@@DoracakeThe Ridley effect refers to people wanting Ridley in Smash for the longest time, but those requests were denied, supposedly due to Ridley being too big to be a fighter. As soon as he became a real fighter in Ultimate, no one's really clambering to play as him. They're saying the same thing will happen with Geno. Fans beg for it, Sakurai does it, people are happy for a bit, and move on.
@@AluminumFusion22 That doesn't explain the question. Ridley is the main villain to his series, and his counterpart in Mario series should be Bowser, not Geno. If we use Bowser and Ridley as the bar for Smash qualification, that means Geno needs to work much harder to reach their level. Boswer still has major role in new games like Odyssey, Sparks of Hope and Bowser's Fury, so Geno should do that, too.
I love how they crush hopes with their monotone robotic trailer voices and fans STILL defend them. You probably have to pay extra for the fact that he's not in it, because paying extra is Nintendo's thing.
I still remember that Grinch leak. Whoever pulled it off managed to fool the majority of /v/, and the disappointment afterwards was so immense that it very much killed any trust in future leaks
I really wish Incineroar was a part of that leak so people would have went "Holy shit they added Ken and Incineroar, the grinch leak is real! This is gonna be the greatest smash direct eve-WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE ROSTER HAS BEEN REVEALED!?"
Okay, a couple of things… The unused music file in Brawl was more likely Toadwood Forest than the Forest Maze. They both have the same name in Japan and the file is by other Mario and Luigi songs. Also I feel the most insulting part of Geno in Smash is that the official Mii Nintendo uses for the Geno costume is hideous. I’ve seen so many better ones made by fans. Anyway, I’m just sitting here depressed about not getting Bandana Dee.
I doubt Toadwood Forest would've been considered as a track. Look, I love Partners in Time the most, but Toadwood forest isn't as iconic as Gritzy Dessert, or as popular as the two tracks from Bowser's Inside story, or as significant as the "giant paper" mechanic from Paper Jam that also got its theme in the game. Honestly tho, I do want more tracks even if they are random. That being said tho, Forest Maze is iconic af, more iconic than the whole Mario and Luigi series (Except Bowser's Inside Story and the whole Paper Mario series). And I know it is by the other Mario and Luigi songs, but so what? Doesn't that make sense? That out of all things, Mario RPG would be listed next to the other two RPG series of the Mario franchise? Two series that spawned from the original RPG game? However, I can't argue with your first point, or the Wiki.
Well you gotta remember that this was Brawl. Superstar Saga and Partners in Time were the only Mario and Luigi games at this point. Since Gritzy Desert is used on the 1-1 Mushroomy Kingdom, Toadwood Forest could have been used on the 1-2 version. The dark atmosphere could have worked well! Apparently another Partners in Time track was cut in development as well, although we don’t know what it is. The file name is just MLRPG02.
@@kirbykirisame1366 Yeah as I said, you got a point and I cant argue with that. And while nowadays, it seems like Ultimate wont have a reason to add that track, Brawl was more hmmm. Ambitious? Creative? So it is totally possible that they were planning to do so. Its similar to the Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong situation, but this time it's tracks, and a different reason for the cut. Eitherway, I did wish we had more Partners in Time music, like Princess Shroob or vs Bowser.
@@Lagw1020 I agree! Sometimes it feels like Smash just goes for music from recent games or what’s popular to add. Like the only new Pokémon music is all from Sun/Moon with 2 songs from ORAS. (Well one is from Ruby/Sapphire but the game says it’s from ORAS) Also how do we have a Paper Mario stage but only 2 Paper Mario songs?
Even beyond Smash, there were *several* Square Enix x Mario crossovers in the Wii generation. Mario Hoops, Fortune Street, Mario Sports Mix. All of them used Square Enix characters, but not a hint of Geno, the character that naturally links Mario and Squenix. It was such a bummer.
@@jackflynn412 In fact neither Nintendo or Square can use Geno without accord of the other: Nintendo can't use him because he's created by Square, and Square can't use him because he's Mario character.
@@Morphop3 Which means neither company had an interest in bringing him back for Fortune Street or Mario Sports Mix. Sad. It would be cool to see him become a Mario spin-off character he has such a unique design compared to other Mario characters by being a puppet and all.
Also the text on screen during that portion, which comes from the ssbwiki states "Japanese translates to "Forest's Mushrooms"; its position in the music list suggests the track was the Toadwood Forest theme (also from Partners in Time). The original music's dark tone suggests it would have been played in the underground variant of Mushroomy Kingdom. The title is also similar to "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms", a piece of music from the Square-developed game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. However, since Nintendo and Square Enix did not collaborate making this game, as well as due to the track's placement, it's unlikely to be this track."
I remember lurking the Smashboards at that time and man, things got ugly, there were people saying there was a conspiracy and other outlandish claims. Everytime there was a hint or theory about a character they made tons of posts about them, only to be wrong the majority of time. The reveals of all third-party characters seemed to differ - Joker: he actually was well received, people only complained that at the time no Persona game was available on Nintendo systems, save for a couple of spin-offs on the 3DS - Hero: he wasn't well liked due to DQ not being very popular outside of Japan and people making jokes about them being designed by Akira Toriyama - Banjo-Kazooie: very few complaints, since they were amongst the most requested characters - Terry: people didn't know who he was due to SNK not being very popular in the U.S. and because the majority of Smash players aren't very familiar with traditional fighting games - Steve: probably the most controversial addition, I personally found it appropriate. I think it was due to a backlash towards Minecraft in general - Sephirtoth: well, he doesn't need an explanation - Kazuya: similar reception to Terry, but it amazed me that people seem to know nothing about Tekken - Sora: well, he didn't suffer as big as a backlash as Sephiroth, but some people said it was his fault Geno wasn't considered
@@pablocasas5906 Sora being added in pissed so many people off because of the overused jokes about Kingdom Hearts' story not making sense and how it's seen as a really immature series in general. @@AluminumFusion22 well, I'm not that versed with the KH games, I only played a bit of KH2 on the PS2 but I never finished it. I suppose that KH does have a huge following, I mean some of the games in the series have sold millions, though I'm aslo aware that it's story is pretty convoluted, with tons of spin-offs. I suppose there's a lot of people who enjoy KH ironically, I think the fact that is about anime-styled characters interacting with Disney characters kind of makes it hard to take it seriously to some people. At least KH does have some presence on Nintendo hardware, it's a shame that the main games are only available on the cloud. Most would argue that KH would do well on Nintendo, considering that due to the Disney content, the games are more family-oriented than other RPGs like FF and SMT/Persona That also reminds me that all of the third-party characters in Smash Ultimate have at least one game available on the Switch, with the exception of Kazuya Mishima from Tekken, Namco never bothered to port any Tekken game to the Switch

@@turtleanton6539 I like Geno, but Mario has got quite many fighters in Smash. Even if Geno is in Smash, he should wait until Smash 6 when some other Mario fighters get cut. Besides by same logic, Geno should also be announced to join other recent games like Sparks of Hope and Mario Kart 8. Smash isn't really what he needs the most at this point.
Wanting Geno in smash is the most random thing I’ve ever seen people do. Ridley fans wanted more metroid representation. Waluigi fans just want the 4th plumber in the game, or are just memeing Geno fans want Geno in Smash because… because they just do.
It's because he's from the first time Mario has been in an RPG, not to mention the crossover with square was pretty big at the time and people want him back in stuff in general because he represents the friendship between the companies.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 You could, but by that logic, we wouldn't have had to add King K Rool because people only wanted to see a DK villain, so they could have just put the walrus or tiki guys instead, or hell people just wanted ridley because thet wanted a cool metroid villain or a character that wasn't Samus, so might as well add Sylux or Trace. Point is, there's plenty of valid reasons why many want Geno that differ from other similar RPG or Mario characters, whether it's because Mario RPG is one of their favorite games, they like all the side characters in the Mario RPGs and Geno is the coolest the most popular, or even that they just want to see him on a Nintendo game again.
@@AwesomeMooseSmile But Mario is the core of the franchise and that game, in the end. I like Geno but being in one game is just not enough. So even by popularity, Geno wouldn't have the garuntee to win.

If you want me to be honest, there are dozens of other characters I would want in Smash before Geno. This is just a history video of what's happened in the past.
@@AwesomeMooseSmile because some of the fans of a character can be very annoying. I remember before banjo and steve got in these 2 were considered the most annoying fans along with waluigi
@Jesus I mean, I get some fans can be annoying, but I still don't think the hate is warranted. Waluigi fans are by far the worst. They were unfunny, genuinely coping with him being possible for being possible for base game, and actually sent hate and death threats towards Sakurai (granted, it was like 2 teenagers, but still). With all of that being said, I still don't think it's a valid reason to look down on others who want Waluigi, or any other character for that matter, and be terrible to them. Most of these people just want a character for a video game they like, and the smash fanbase has a problem with all of them for some reason. I still remember seeing people personally attack Ridley fans, and to a lesser extent King K Rool, just because they're popular, but then as soon as they got in they moved onto the next target.
I always understood the desire for Geno to be in Smash back in the Brawl days as fundamentally derived from a desire to see Square Enix representation in general. People REALLY wanted characters like Cloud or Sora, but the games for those characters weren't generally on Nintendo consoles at that point, and Square's relationship with Nintendo was pretty shaky at the time. With this in mind, people saw Geno as the perfect "in" for the company. Sure, plenty of people wanted Geno in Brawl due to a legitimate love for the character, but the greater scope desire was for Geno to act as a stepping stone for further Square representation in the series. Then Brawl came out, and people started to find evidence that Geno WAS planned to appear as a playable character. From this point on, the logistics for many people wanting Geno in Smash becomes akin to an ouroboros. Geno was ALMOST in Smash, so he just SHOULD BE in Smash. Naturally, there were still people who wanted Geno for Geno's sake, and people who wanted Geno to act as a stepping stone for further Square rep, but now you also have people who see what could have been desiring for that potential to simply Be, without further attachment to the character. Its almost like the opposite of Sakurai saying "Ridley is too big" back in the day making people think it was absolutely impossible for him to be a viable character. Because Sakurai said he DID want to put Geno in Brawl, that means he MUST become playable now. Then of course, we got Cloud in Smash 4's DLC, and then a ton of other Square Enix rep in Ultimate. The people who wanted Geno to lead to further rep don't have a core reason to want Geno anymore, they just GOT those characters.
Probelm is Smash is about games and franchises, not about characters exactly. Geno's not necessary only casue major Mario characters have made it into Smash. At most people can only complain that Rosalina got the unfair treat from NIntendo despite she is much younger than Geno, but it's not that NIntendo is obliged to keep adding Mario series fighters. They're only obliged to treat Mario characters in regular Mario games.

Contrary to popular belief, Geno hype did not start in the Brawl days. He’s actually been a highly requested character since even before Melee came out. So really we Geno fans have been dealing with his exclusion and all of the bs that comes along with it for even longer than most people think.
The better explnation about the early time was that people thought Mario rpgs were canon, because Nintendo didn't really establish a recurring main cast during that time. Only in later n64 Mario sport games did Nintendo really gave a clear answer geno won't join the main cast.
I'm just glad Geno got anything at all, at least he was a Mii Costume and not a PNG- I mean Spirit. Also I'm glad that they didn't make Geno's full head the Headgear like for the Tails Mii Costume's Headgear.
Comparing to other active characters, not so much worthy. Even if Toad isn't a fighter, fans can still play him in many games and see him in the theater. Geno fans should also expect the same.
Even though Geno couldn't make it in as a fighter i do wonder what could've been like if it would've been close enough to add him in as an assist trophy even though it's clearly not what the fans would have wanted
it's almost like it's a one off character that's been in an what? almost 30 years old game by now? I actually wasn't that upset with the Geno Mii costume like others might've been. In fact, I kinda thought it was fitting for his character! After all, the doll body was never his to begin with. He was only borrowing it to have a more physical presence. The same could be said for the Mii bodies, as they are essentially empty husks you decorate for combat. I was thankful they brought the costume back in Ultimate, and now that the rpg has an official remake, he might finally have a more decent shot at being in something else, Smash or otherwise. On a side note, I think it'd be cool if Mallow was an assist trophy; one of those ones where the effect is random each time it's summoned. He might not have been a show-stealer like Geno, but his weather powers are not to be underestimated.
They can definitely make Geno and Mallow assist trophies. The problem is, costumes are not exactly canon and alive. The characters need more presence to prove they still live in new games.
Now that SM RPG remake has been announced it makes me wonder if there was some sort of contractual obligation where they couldn't use Gino in any other games, so their workaround was "okay, we won't use the character, but we can make a costume of him instead."
Geno already appeared as a costume in Smash bros for WiiU. It's more just that NIntendo didn't try to push it further by putting Mallow and Geno in Nintendo Switch games like Odyssey, 3D World or Origami King.
I feel like they never wanted to add him for the same reason as Sans is a Mii costume. He stars in ONE GAME. Literally ONE SINGLE GAME. And, not gonna lie, it would be very unfair to let him get in with very little relevance. Is like asking to add... I don't know, the red demon thing from Sonic Lost World. And, come on, "he's a cool character" is far from enough of a reason to add him. I feel like Geno fans were just memeing at one point, or they are just brainrotted from this character.
Problem is Mario series is still ongoing. It's easy to just make Geno and Mallow return in any single new game. NIntendo is the one that refuse to let them return.

Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time. I've been hoping for Geno since I was a little kid in Melee. I remember how hard my heart sunk in with the mii costume in Wii U. It felt like a punch to the face. It was pretty nostalgic seeing the forums from Brawl's time. I was there on those forums talking about Geno as a 12 year old kid. Good times and good video. I hope Geno gets in someday. At least for now I have Brawl mods.
I like the Mii Costumes. It's fun to make characters (even if it's limited and they usually don't even let you change colors, and it would be better to have full masks than hats, but I digress). But it really irks me that Miis never show up when you do random select. That's my favorite way to play. All Random all the time.
It’s a sad thought, that so much time has passed, that even if Geno got his moment to shine, there are definitely plenty of people who have died before they got to see it
You say not Waluigi in the description, but the situation is pretty similar. Waluigi has also been asked since Brawl, and has continually been denied in increasingly mocking ways. I think Geno is probably worse, though, because at least Waluigi is near-certain to make it into the next game due to how relevant he still is; whether or not Geno will *ever* appear is still very much up in the air. Fingers crossed
Their only same issue is losing to other Mario characters, since Mario series has too many options for fighters. However, Nintendo at least likes to use Waluigi in other regular Mario games. Obviously they don't want to give Geno any light.
I was “Rewarded” with a lifetime ban from SmashBoards for telling a forum that Geno will NEVER be officially added to Smash Ultimate. When Sora released and its continuance was officially ended, I attempted to appeal my ban, on the grounds that I wasn’t wrong about what I said. I was told “we will never recognise your opinion in any official capacity, the ban will be held indefinitely” Talk about savage. Lmao
for some reason this is really fascinating to me like i dont think i wouldve ever even known geno existed if there wasnt this extremely passionate group of people that wanted him to be in smash
I'm kinda floored at how much energy people put towards shitting on a character who allegedly isn't worth anything. For the record Ridley was my most requested and I stuck to my guns throughout Smash 4's lifespan. Nothing you say could hurt me more than 2014 did.
@@toamatoro570 Yeah, but the difference is that FE fans generally actually like Byleth and Three Houses. Not many Corrin fans cause they're a shit character from a shit game that's only in smash for marketing purposes.
I will never understand why some consider Mii costumes a slap on the face. Do they seriously think that if those costumes were not in, then those characters would have a guaranteed spot in the roster? Is better something that nothing, but to some anything less than everything is insulting.
Waluigi is a main character of the franchise and already has got alot of care. Geno is definitely not in a good state since he never comes to any other game outside his origin.
On the one hand, I do feel a little bad for Geno fans for not ever getting the chance to see their favorite character be a fighter (I speak as a Waluigi fan after all, I know that feeling). But at the same time, I also find it kinda hard to sympathize with all of them considering how unbelievably OBNOXIOUS some of them can get. I remember the day that Geno was announced as a Mii costume in Ultimate, I commented that I saw it as an absolute win, in that he at least wasn't forgotten. Yeah, turns out, by saying that, it's like I committed a crime against humanity, because next thing I knew, there were a buncha jerks screaming and ranting at me about how Geno should've been a fighter and all that pizzazz (with one of them *even calling me an R-word).* I know not all Geno fans are even remotely like this, but you know the saying, "a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch"...
I like Geno, but consider that he's been frequently absent from all new games on WIIU (and now even the games on NIntendo Switch), it's sad but not surprising to prove that Nintendo don't think he is an appropriate choice for Mario franchise representive. Geno not being a franchise mascot is a cruel objecitve fact for now. If people do think Geno is undeniably necessary to Mario series, it's not just about Smash but too many recent Mario games as well as Super Mario Movie should all be blamed about Geno's absence.
Geno is cool but the fans behind him are annoying af. I remember being happy when Xenoblade got another rep, only to see Twitter bombarded with Geno fans bashing the inclusion because the franchise is more niche, despite Geno only ever appearing in 1 game (and a cameo that was removed). People can have their wish lists of course, but Geno fans gotta realize he's not that impactful of a character.
the only hope for Geno fans at this point is a mario spin-off game with Geno as the main focus or protagonist, which has the same chance of happening as Geno being an official roster member in any smash game unfortunately
@@karar.kendall4872 Don't think so. Nintendo never openly acknowledge that the issue is from Square, who is already their business partner and worked with them in many occasions. If they broke up they would not even agree with the remake.
Hopefully the Mario RPG remake getting announced like 2 months ago has been enough compensation to make the Geno fans happy, sure its a remake of the game 1 for 1, but you can say he's in HD on Nintendo Switch... Better than nothing I suppose.
I don't think so. Consider how many games Geno missed on Nintendo Switch, the remake is just not enough. Unless Nintendo announce that they'd start to do more DLCs for the already released Mario games.

Well i did find that track on a dumped ISO of smash brawl i was playing on emulator, so unless someone put that in as some kind of sick joke, i don't see how it couldn't be real.
Sometime during the summer of 2023, Nintendo announced a remake of Super Mario RPG. That means Geno is going to enter the minds of many new players, who are going to experience a legendary game with a new coat of paint. Maybe, just maybe, that means Geno might have a (slightly) brighter future ahead of him!
That really depends. The obstacle in front of him and others is more about the fact none of the Mario's RPG characters have been able to join the main cast, it's not just a bout Geno but also happens to Starlow, Mallow, Goombella and others. So only when Nintendo is willing to change their opinion would these characters have a chance. I think if NIntendo really want to please fans, they could had just announced Geno to join other recent games like Sparks of Hope or Mario Kart Tour. I mean, if Geno does appear in other games, he doesn't even need the remake to be known by modern gamers. They can just play Mario Kart or Odyssey to know Geno if he did appear in these games.

Costumes produce the sodium chloride Distant cries call for a doll still denied Take this loss, though the tears may cloud your sight Geno isn't included in this ultimate fight
I got a theory of the real reason why Geno didn't add in Smash Bros, beside of licence issues by both Nintendo and Square. There have been lately ongoing theme towards the Mario community, there is a term known as "Mario Mandates". The idea is before late 2000s, Nintendo allowed to create original characters with a depth and lore into Mario's universe. Some are in the same species such as toads or koopas are completely modified to fit their personally/characters, or completely brand new. to This reply a lot for more sign-off titles, especially RPGs or Sports. Allowing the some developers from Intelligent Systems, AlphaDream or even Sqaure Enix, to add more depth and storytelling elements in these games. However, around late 2000s, Nintendo EAD including Miyamoto feelings the Mario brand is taking "too far" with lore and emphasis on storytelling into games, from first Galaxy and Super Mario Paper in 2007. Likely doesn't want Mario to end like Sonic with 06 back then. This cause a somewhat reboot happened with New Super Mario Bros Wii in 2009. Where Nintendo refurbished entirely of the Mario's universe, to fitted with corporate-feel or same tone to Mickey Mouse. This is why latest Paper Mario games lacked of charm unlike previous titles in 2000s. I think that characters like Geno or Mallow doesn't fitted as the Mario series, form Miyamoto's perspective. Causing the mandates upon many developments and studios to allow or don't not to do with the series, including Sakurai. After all, Nintendo owns both Mario and Smash Bros.
The two companies do have a good partnership to talk about it, so I don't think they would feel bothered if they want to do anything with him. If they can't, they wouldn't even do the remake version of the RPG. Nintendo's general issue is more like their lack of interest in Geno and Mallow, as well as other RPG originated characters like Goombella. As Goombella has no license issue at all, obviously the reason isn't about license.
Still fucked Smash introduced a new type of Mii Costumes that allow the character to look like the mii is the exact model along with a free music track, and then proceeded to make reuse the Smash 4 Geno Costume and made the track that plays in his bit unavailable. Like I remember expecting a Deluxe Geno Costume, but seeing his dog shit costume from 4 be the only real form of representation for the character feels utterly insulting.
Here’s the thing, why would square ever allow geno to be put in when they could easily ask for another, more popular character be put in. Remember smash is a great advertisement for series, so square would naturally push for some character from a best selling game to be included
Uh..... Geno would just be a Mario series character. His rival is always Mario, not the characters from Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, etc. There is some weird misunderstanding since Cloud never really robbed Geno's chance. We should focus the Mario contents only.
They're from different IPs, right? It's not like they had other competitors to fight for Smash. If you want to mention franchsies that have no fighters, just mention Golden Sun and Ring Fit.
Who knows when they'll do another Smash Bros but we all know the roster size will never match Ultimates, that's why I want them to pull it back and refine the gameplay of the older fighters and bring their movements closer to the design philosophy of newer characters where moves are actually based on stuff from their games. Ganondorf is a big example of a character who could do with being reworked but most of the 64 and Melee cast could do with adjustments. Maybe they could also have an option to switch their movesets to "classic mode"?
Honestly Geno would be a bad choice. It wouldn’t advertise any games, only a few thousand people would care, and the excitement would dissipate quickly. The real most shafted character is Waluigi, obviously.
@@DoracakeWaluigi is a character exclusive to the Mario spin-offs so they can have a full roster of characters. He's never appeared in a mainline game outside of a reference in Odyssey.
@@Doracake A roster is a selection of characters. Games with multiple playable characters have a roster, whether it's a game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros.
@@AluminumFusion22 No I still don't get what you mean. You say Waluigi never had a major game role, so if you want to complete a main cast with major roles, why create Waluigi in the first place? Didn't we have many unused key characters from past games like Pauline, Stanley and Syrup?
Similarly to Ridley, even if Geno did eventually get into Smash as a full character, they'd just lose all the interest people had up until that point and people'd move onto the next character, cuz the discourse about Ridley has dropped so much ever since he became playable. So Geno gets their 15 minutes of fame and that's it
This comment is whack. As one of those people hoping Ridley would finally make it I've mained the big guy from the start. He just isn't very competitively viable. Don't take internet clout as a representation of how smash players value a character.
@@Tribow Oh it was definitely hyperbole, but you know what I mean, right? People tried SO hard to get this character in and then when it finally happened it wasn't nearly as hype as before
@@PixelHeroViish Obviously people aren't going to talk about how it's awesome he made it in forever, but I don't think it's fair to say people lost interest. The main reason he's not played a lot is because he's mid tier at best, competitive viability determines a lot of a characters' relevance. I stopped playing Ultimate a while ago because Switch Online is a garbage service but I'm still very happy that he's in the game. He could use a few changes to his moveset and better balancing but for the most part he's a great addition and a no-brainer as a Metroid rep.
I’m sure that with the release of the Super Mario RPG Remake, there could be a chance that Geno finally gets his time to shine I feel bad for people who really wanted him
The problem is NIntendo already noticed Geno back in Smash 4. It still does'nt make sense for Geno to not appear in any later game after Smash 4. That' why fans feel so desperate and frustrated. Even for now, Nintendo has announced Peach's Showtime, but they didn't highlight that Geno and Mallow will have a role in this game.

The clip at 5:35 is so unbelievably 2007. How did the person who made that think that just having a png of Geno flashing over Smash footage and metal music was going to get him into Brawl? I love old TH-cam oddities.
Ahhh memories. I wonder if Final Fantasy finally getting rep in Smash led to development of the upcoming Mario RPG remake. So rather than Geno being a stepping stone for FF in Smash, Smash was the stepping stone to the game he's featured in getting a remake.
> Final Fantasy finally getting rep in Smash led to development If you mean Square's partnership with NIntendo, by record they did made several Mario collab games with Nintendo on Wii and they also made several games release for NIntendo platforms, like Octopath. So it's definitely not directl relevant with Smash bros. Then the problem should be that Geno never lacks chances to return if NIntendo and Square really wanted to push, since Mario games release very frequently. There is even Mario Kart Tour update monthly for Geno to get in anytime, he doesn't even need to wait for the remake to return. It's frustrating but looks more like Nintendo didn't give enough emphasis on him.

That doesn't explain the question.

Okay, a couple of things…
The unused music file in Brawl was more likely Toadwood Forest than the Forest Maze. They both have the same name in Japan and the file is by other Mario and Luigi songs.
Also I feel the most insulting part of Geno in Smash is that the official Mii Nintendo uses for the Geno costume is hideous. I’ve seen so many better ones made by fans.
Anyway, I’m just sitting here depressed about not getting Bandana Dee.
imagine if bandana dee replaces someone like king k. rool in the next game
At least Fortune Street had a SMRPG remix... 💀
And none of them had Geno which is bizarre, if Geno is to be considered for Smash he needs to be in more games so people can get to know him better.
It was such a missed opportunity to not put him in those games. I think Square has no interest in using him.
@@jackflynn412 In fact neither Nintendo or Square can use Geno without accord of the other: Nintendo can't use him because he's created by Square, and Square can't use him because he's Mario character.

7:39 Okay, clarification, the remix was not on the game's files, ONLY the track title, the remix was fan-made.
You should've talked about the Geno general on Smashboards. The meltdown over Sephiroth getting revealed made the mods lock the thread.
I remember lurking the Smashboards at that time and man, things got ugly, there were people saying there was a conspiracy and other outlandish claims. Everytime there was a hint or theory about a character they made tons of posts about them, only to be wrong the majority of time. The reveals of all third-party characters seemed to differ
- Joker: he actually was well received, people only complained that at the time no Persona game was available on Nintendo systems, save for a couple of spin-offs on the 3DS
- Hero: he wasn't well liked due to DQ not being very popular outside of Japan and people making jokes about them being designed by Akira Toriyama
- Banjo-Kazooie: very few complaints, since they were amongst the most requested characters
- Terry: people didn't know who he was due to SNK not being very popular in the U.S. and because the majority of Smash players aren't very familiar with traditional fighting games
- Steve: probably the most controversial addition, I personally found it appropriate. I think it was due to a backlash towards Minecraft in general
- Sephirtoth: well, he doesn't need an explanation
- Kazuya: similar reception to Terry, but it amazed me that people seem to know nothing about Tekken
- Sora: well, he didn't suffer as big as a backlash as Sephiroth, but some people said it was his fault Geno wasn't considered

Most would argue that KH would do well on Nintendo, considering that due to the Disney content, the games are more family-oriented than other RPGs like FF and SMT/Persona

I still can't imagine Geno playable in a Smash game over Chrono, who fits all the same criteria and is far more deserving of the recognition.
I actually wasn't that upset with the Geno Mii costume like others might've been. In fact, I kinda thought it was fitting for his character! After all, the doll body was never his to begin with.
I've gone through most of your videos today once I discovered you today, and I want to let you know your videos are gold. You might not have a million views and sometimes not even 100k, but that doesn't define the quality and the interesting topics you've chosen. Keep it up dude.
Did he appear in any Wii game?
He got something now 👀
I wouldn't call it something
I call it something better
I like the Mii Costumes. It's fun to make characters (even if it's limited and they usually don't even let you change colors, and it would be better to have full masks than hats, but I digress). But it really irks me that Miis never show up when you do random select. That's my favorite way to play. All Random all the time.

It’s a sad thought, that so much time has passed, that even if Geno got his moment to shine, there are definitely plenty of people who have died before they got to see it
This whole Geno stuff is the literal definition of Insanity for Smash Fans.
Literally nobody cares about Geno except for Smash players
@@EmperorPenguin1217 Even the game Geno came from doesn't care about Geno lol
@@EmperorPenguin1217 isn't he from mario games?
@@Doracake Yeah, super Mario rpg.
@@EmperorPenguin1217 then mario series fans would care?
Guess who’s coming back?
You say not Waluigi in the description, but the situation is pretty similar. Waluigi has also been asked since Brawl, and has continually been denied in increasingly mocking ways. I think Geno is probably worse, though, because at least Waluigi is near-certain to make it into the next game due to how relevant he still is; whether or not Geno will *ever* appear is still very much up in the air. Fingers crossed
Waluigi is for the most part a joke pick, like half the fans only want him ironically let’s not pretend otherwise.
The Waluigi movement exploded after the Direct that revealed him as an Assist Trophy. Before that he still had his fans but it wasn't as huge.
Their only same issue is losing to other Mario characters, since Mario series has too many options for fighters. However, Nintendo at least likes to use Waluigi in other regular Mario games. Obviously they don't want to give Geno any light.
Waluigi is my favorite Mario character and get sad everytime. Geno after the hype of Super Mario RPG has a way higher chance than Waluigi and I’m sad.
I was told “we will never recognise your opinion in any official capacity, the ban will be held indefinitely”
Talk about savage. Lmao
Bro imagine if in the next smash game Mallow gets in instead of Geno.😭 That would be the ultimate kick in the balls
That "brawl easter egg geno" video was from the era of TH-cam where you could only use profile pictures from videos you've uploaded
I've always thought that paper Mario would be a super cool character to add, but alas
for some reason this is really fascinating to me like i dont think i wouldve ever even known geno existed if there wasnt this extremely passionate group of people that wanted him to be in smash
Wouldn't it have been great if they did the whole build up of the song and the RPG logo then announced Mallow as a new fighter.
RPG logo? what is it?
Jesus christ this thumbnail has single-handedly converted me into an anti-Geno fan.
I'm kinda floored at how much energy people put towards shitting on a character who allegedly isn't worth anything.
For the record Ridley was my most requested and I stuck to my guns throughout Smash 4's lifespan. Nothing you say could hurt me more than 2014 did.
People shit on the Fire Emblem characters using the excuse that they're not iconic enough to be in Smash, this isn't unique to Geno fans
@@benhuang2773 To be somewhat fair, Corrin absolutely does not deserve their character slot.
@@benhuang2773 The difference is that FE characters keep getting in left and right and Geno fans have gotten nothing. You and I are not the same.
@@TheWrathAbove Look at reactions to Byleth too, they were the epitome of lukewarm.
@@toamatoro570 Yeah, but the difference is that FE fans generally actually like Byleth and Three Houses. Not many Corrin fans cause they're a shit character from a shit game that's only in smash for marketing purposes.
Oh snap this was just uploaded. And here I was going through the rest of your catalog. Nice!
I will never understand why some consider Mii costumes a slap on the face. Do they seriously think that if those costumes were not in, then those characters would have a guaranteed spot in the roster? Is better something that nothing, but to some anything less than everything is insulting.
I mean.... yeah, some characters don't even appear as costumes, so it's not like Mallow or Pauline fans are supposed to be happy about it.
@@Doracake Fans have to learn that they can't always get everything they want.
Geno fans have only felt .0001% of the pain and despair of Waluigi fans...
Waluigi is a main character of the franchise and already has got alot of care. Geno is definitely not in a good state since he never comes to any other game outside his origin.
I really dont believe theres more than 1000 individuals who actually played Mario RPG + care about Smash + like Geno
Please never stop making videos. I love you, no homo
No homo indeed really appreciate the content
yes homo
Geno is cool but the fans behind him are annoying af. I remember being happy when Xenoblade got another rep, only to see Twitter bombarded with Geno fans bashing the inclusion because the franchise is more niche, despite Geno only ever appearing in 1 game (and a cameo that was removed). People can have their wish lists of course, but Geno fans gotta realize he's not that impactful of a character.
Didn't Mario get more reps? Why would Xenoblade be a problem? It only has three characters by now.
This video was great. Thank you, and I'll never lose hope. If Ice Climbers could get in, Geno certainly can.
IceClimbers are owned by Nintendo
the funniest shit is that they didnt even have him as a base game costume in ultimate, you had to buy him again in ultimate
That shantae mii-costume was a punch to the nuts
As I'm watching this episode, I'm having flashbacks of waiting for Megaman (X or original) to be announced for Marvel vs Capcom 3 (both versions).
the only hope for Geno fans at this point is a mario spin-off game with Geno as the main focus or protagonist, which has the same chance of happening as Geno being an official roster member in any smash game unfortunately
There area lready many spinoffs for NIntendo Switch, and fans could ask Nintendo to do Geno for those games.
@@Doracakeactually ask square
@@karar.kendall4872
Don't think so.
@@Doracakei hope that the remake does well enought for them to at least try rescue this characters somehow. A man can dream ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7:39 correction, the data on the disk that suggested they were gonna have the song was the japanese name for Toadwood Forest from M&L: Partners in Time actually, no actual audio exists for it and the track you're playing is a fan remix made by VideoGameScrapBook (I think at least, I can't find an upload from a channel by that name)
Well i did find that track on a dumped ISO of smash brawl i was playing on emulator, so unless someone put that in as some kind of sick joke, i don't see how it couldn't be real.
to be fair... Geno being a Mii costume makes sense.. i mean, just look at Sans Undertale and Cuphead
If his costume was as good at those ones, a lot less people would be complaining
@Doracake I'm certain nobody cares about your made up rules for who can and can't make it into a party game. Please shut up and stop embarrassing yourself. Glad I could help.
He didn't even get a good Mii costume, they just gave him the same one with a human head with dead-looking eyes twice 💀
Now the question remains: who will be added to Smash first? Geno or Waluigi?
Costumes produce the sodium chloride
Distant cries call for a doll still denied
Take this loss, though the tears may cloud your sight
Geno isn't included in this ultimate fight
But not again.... This is The TIME
I got a theory of the real reason why Geno didn't add in Smash Bros, beside of licence issues by both Nintendo and Square.
Yeah like Sora and Sephiroth
Uh..... Geno would just be a Mario series character. His rival is always Mario, not the characters from Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, etc. There is some weird misunderstanding since Cloud never really robbed Geno's chance. We should focus the Mario contents only.
@@billyboleson2830 ?are they related?
What a great summary of events! Nice video. :)
You know, he may not be in smash, but atleast PMEX exists.
If Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, and Ness weren’t in Smash, their fans would be in the same boat
They're from different IPs, right? It's not like they had other competitors to fight for Smash.
If you want to mention franchsies that have no fighters, just mention Golden Sun and Ring Fit.
I can’t hear 16:30 without imagining a plane crashing immediately
I will always think the original super smash bros intro went the hardest.
The old Ganon moveset should just go to Black Shadow or Deathborn
I'm personally glad that they added Fireemblem Swordman and not Scrimblo Bimblo. This is a game for grown-ups, thank you.
Honestly Geno would be a bad choice. It wouldn’t advertise any games, only a few thousand people would care, and the excitement would dissipate quickly. The real most shafted character is Waluigi, obviously.
Waluigi? what did he do to Geno?
@@DoracakeWaluigi is a character exclusive to the Mario spin-offs so they can have a full roster of characters. He's never appeared in a mainline game outside of a reference in Odyssey.
@@AluminumFusion22
so they can have a full roster? what is that again?
@@Doracake A roster is a selection of characters. Games with multiple playable characters have a roster, whether it's a game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros.
@@AluminumFusion22
No I still don't get what you mean. You say Waluigi never had a major game role, so if you want to complete a main cast with major roles, why create Waluigi in the first place? Didn't we have many unused key characters from past games like Pauline, Stanley and Syrup?
I genuinely thought he was a reoccurring side character from Fire Emblem or something like that, not a 1x from a Mario game--
If you're looking for a game that has a character reminiscent of Geno, I highly recommend Everhood.
The real snub here is that you went this entire video without mentioning Waluigi
Similarly to Ridley, even if Geno did eventually get into Smash as a full character, they'd just lose all the interest people had up until that point and people'd move onto the next character, cuz the discourse about Ridley has dropped so much ever since he became playable. So Geno gets their 15 minutes of fame and that's it
Exactly what I’ve been saying too. People fought tooth and nail for Ridley, just for the character to barely get touched lmao
You can tell because how come geno fans never ask for him to be in th Mario spin-offs like Kart or party?
I hope that the fans manage to preserve the dlcs for all the smash games.
I’m sure that with the release of the Super Mario RPG Remake, there could be a chance that Geno finally gets his time to shine
I feel bad for people who really wanted him
The problem is NIntendo already noticed Geno back in Smash 4. It still does'nt make sense for Geno to not appear in any later game after Smash 4. That' why fans feel so desperate and frustrated.
Even for now, Nintendo has announced Peach's Showtime, but they didn't highlight that Geno and Mallow will have a role in this game.
If we just had one more, one more fighters pass he *might've* made it in
I am at the beginning of what I hope is a binge of videos, I wanted to watch this channel's stuff but forgot the title. God Bless TH-cam recommendations.
The clip at 5:35 is so unbelievably 2007. How did the person who made that think that just having a png of Geno flashing over Smash footage and metal music was going to get him into Brawl? I love old TH-cam oddities.
I miss this era of life so much. Thank you for always having a way to bring back memories from the early-late 2000s
Ahhh memories.
I wonder if Final Fantasy finally getting rep in Smash led to development of the upcoming Mario RPG remake. So rather than Geno being a stepping stone for FF in Smash, Smash was the stepping stone to the game he's featured in getting a remake.
> Final Fantasy finally getting rep in Smash led to development
If you mean Square's partnership with NIntendo, by record they did made several Mario collab games with Nintendo on Wii and they also made several games release for NIntendo platforms, like Octopath.
Also because Mario RPG was the last game Squaresoft developed before moving on to the PlayStation.
The fact they took out his Mii costume, then put it back in to be paid for a second time shows they thought "hmmm...... maybe..... eh, no."
It is disappointing that he couldn’t get the sans or cup head mii costume… Sad days for the geno crew, love the video!
