@@Ggggggfefdff I partially agree with you but one major issue is Moviebob is baffling with his political views. His support of eugenics would rightfully drive off the vast majority of people. He describes himself as a male feminist but it's so clear his main priority with it is that it will help him get laid any actual belief he might have in it is completely lost. The video dosen't really go over it but Moviebob views his idea society as some Wall E like one where you can just sit around all down plugged into a virtual reality world and interact with your favorite fictonal characters. He generalizes such massive groups of people and instantly goes to wiping them out that it seems like a parody but it's been going on far to long for that to be the case. I want to call him a Libertarian Surpremacist or even stretch it to Liberal Surpremacist (though the more I think about it I don't think Liberal Surpremacist works here) but his belifs fall more into some Virtual Reality Authortarian hell where he is at the top of the hierarchy and just about everyone else is vermin to be removed through force.

@@robymammon610 > I played this video game the other day that some of you might have heard of, it's called Super Mario Bros. 3....and I tell you what folks, it's a great game, great game, fantastic game, probably the best video game that's ever been released. My son Baron loves it, he loves video games, you should see him- he's so good at video games. And you know what's so great about the Super Mario Bros, is they're a pair of brothers, a pair of hard-working brothers, hard working brothers from New York and they're from an Italian family. We love our Italians, don't we folks? A pair of hard-working brothers who fight through level after level to defeat the great menace Bowser and I tell you what, what he does to the Mushroom Kingdom is an awful lot like what Sleepy Joe and the swamp have done to our great country during the last 4 years....but these brothers, despite how Bowser sends his minions to come after them, the same way this administration has come after me and I know they're coming after you....despite that, they work together and they beat Bowser and they take back the Mushroom Kingdom. I would really love Bob to find a woman, have a kid, have the life he wants. Then his kid grows up into the biggest, chadest, meathead jock archetype you can imagine and only plays PlayStation.
His kid would grow up into that ps3 Chad meme from the 06-08(ish) era I'll be shocked if he isn't covered in this video(I'm just starting it), but he was the one who just basically said "P S TRIPLE IS BALLIN' YO! THE P S TRIPLE IS FOR THE REAL PLAYAS!!!!" and basically just got under every "angry critic" merd's skin in that era for the lullz.
Which is sad because knowing how non linear editing works, you couldn't just put it on hold for the day or so and pay your respects? I've stopped the whole presses because I had an uncle die from a fentanyl OD and he was my world. Is Bob just an asshole?
Fun fact: 308.7k tweets since 2011 is an average of about 2,5 tweets per hour everyday. This guy isn't terminally online, he's fully fused himself with his computer.
Sounds like a massive waste of time. At some point you could have poured that time into literally any other activity and been more productive or useful with in your own life.
I think you forgot to the mention the broader topic that Bob's entire identity, even his politics, is based around consuming media. He's all socalist and wealth reform, but he endlessly worships big media corporations like Disney and Warner Bros because they made things he watched as a child. He also genuinely believes his movie reviews are genuinely meaningful art and activism. His entire identity is based around being a man child
"hmm, I wonder what happens when socialist ideology tries to combine with corporations worship? Let's look at this history book from the 1930s... Oh no... Ohhhhh nooooooo!"
He's sort of like a modern day Lester Bangs, thinking on it. The thing about Lester was that he believed a lot of things, but above all else he believed that good art should be genuinely challenging. Like, he believed that The Shaggs were an all-female band with an attitude that women should want to emulate because, in the decades to come people will always listen to The Shaggs for the first time, realise that they suck, and then never, ever forget what they heard and tell another person about them so that the cycle could begin again. But, there are hundreds of all-female bands and female singers with massive pop hits that will be forgotten because they strived to be too perfect to the point where they become unmemorable. He also believed that 'good' music is music for children because kids will be introduced to it at a young age, be told it's good, and then for the rest of their lives they'll be like "This AC/DC album is good because Daddy told me it was good when I was 6," which is why 'bad' music is so important, because it's music for people who think for themselves, not people who just accept what is popular as 'good' or accept what their parents told them was good when they were young as 'good'. I don't think that Bob Chipman is capable of thinking that deeply about the things that he reviews, but he sure thinks that he is.
This was a real trip considering I remember getting into a disagreement with Bob on Screwattack years and years ago. Before he won that competition he'd asked for feedback on one of his videos and I replied with some advice essentially saying to chill out on the "gramers, halo and madden are ruining video games". He sent me an extremely rude message which claimed I was too "REDACTED" to understand his video. A few months later he made a video that claimed every single game in existence should be third person because it was inherently better than first person (???). I felt somewhat vindicated about who was actually "REDACTED"
Ah shit I agree with him on something, I also hate the first person perspective. Would I genocide all games that use it and forbid any more from being created? No, but my personal hatred remains.
Oh yeah... There was one video where he put in one of those pause to read edits in his video in which he blamed Metroid prime as responsible to the continuing plague of first person shooters, and refused to play it.
Moviebob is like if "Comic Book Nerd" from the Simpsons was a real person, except you remove any and all likability and humor from him and replaced it with 3 times the pretentiousness and 5 times the stupidity.
Something you notice growing up is that a lot of the "I was bullied" crowd were actually just naturally rejected by their peers for their abrasive, vulgar, inappropriate and/or antisocial behavior, which they refused to acknowledge or change. And which they often carry into adulthood, stranding them in a loop of constant social failure. Mobiebob is the perfect example of that.
@@publiusventidiusbassus1232fuck this might be me, but I will say this, at least I had a consistent and string friend group (till life drifted us apart, but okay)
MovieBob is the definition of terminally online, to the point his view of the world is more akin to a Saturday morning cartoon where he's good and everyone he hates is bad. Its absurdly depressing.
Were they united? I don't really get the impression that other male feminists and Trump haters were ever really against him. EDIT: Also, I'm actually wondering if any angry reviewer types from this era who happened to be right wingers became this insane and hateful. It's something I'm really curious about, but don't wanna rot my brain looking up the ramblings of twitter posts from all the people from that era to try and discern their politics and level of insanity. If anybody reading this knows, tell me. I anna know.
@psycholuigiman Male feminists and Trump haters weren't against him so much as they didn't want to associate with him. This is a very common thing in any kind of politics, you'll accept their vote but when the chips are down you'll disown them. As for the hateful brand of right wingers, they just don't act insane. They are the bullies that pick on people, get really nasty, spiteful and personal, and then act either as a victim or the "rational" party if person they pick on bites back. Usually that brand of hate takes the form of sly mockery, the spreading of lies and a smug and superior attitude. If you look at the ones with the most "insane" views, like anti-vaxxers or flat earthers, you'll find all of these traits apply. And just because people WILL deliberately get the wrong idea if I don't specify, I am specifically talking about hateful right wingers. People who want to turn this in a generalisation slinging match can F off.
I did a bit of quick math in relation to Bob's twitter habits. So assuming Bob made his account on the 1st Day of March, 2011, that would mean that 4,561 days have passed since Bob initially joined Twitter. His number of tweets currently sits at ~309,100 since the account's inception. On average, that is 68 tweets per day, which would equal out to ~2,040 tweets per thirty-day month. To put that into perspective, the most active users on Twitter, according to some random statistics I googled, send out 157 tweets... per month. With these numbers, that means that Movie Bob tweets ~13x as much as Twitter's most active monthly users, and ~2040x more than the average Twitter user.
The insular nature of it promotes mental illness and infantilism, I found. The western world is already heavily medicated, but having your negative aspects encouraged and accepted en masse is plain debilitating. People need a reality check and have too many outlets to avoid it.

@@12ealDealOfficial AVGN didn't really get political at all. Real-world politics generally don't belong in any form of entertainment. In his book he makes it clear that he really dislikes Trump and his wife wrote something on his site once about it being a "caucasian sausage fest." That's the extent of AVGN's political discussion that I've seen since 2006. The content has always been about playing the games, ranting, and having fun. That's why it's so great and timeless! Imagine if AVGN talked about the racism and sexism in every single game. It'd be terrible. He said something about a teacher saying "X-Men, huh? That's kinda sexist" and him replying "what's wrong with being sexy?" but that was all just a (fun) joke based in the reality of activist jerks in the 90s loudly and stupidly complaining that generalized use of "men" to mean "humans" really meant "only males."
You know how the Sonic fandom seems to attract all the weirdos? Nintendo made a deal with the devil to concentrate the weirdness in one person, and MobieBlob is the result. A character so ridiculous he would seem outlandish in a parody.
I laughed so hard reading "political views entirely focused around being vindictive towards people who were mean to him in High School in 1997" because that is 200% accurate to Bob. I am embarrassed to admit that I used to watch a lot of his videos back when I was younger. One of his biggest "running gags" as it were was him constantly saying that the 90's objectively sucked, as if it were the most factual statement ever with no explanation needed. Dude literally said this dozens of times for YEARS whenever bringing up anything popular from the 90's. It brought a lot of sour feelings from some of his younger fans that remember the decade fondly, myself included at the time. Later on in what I think was a Q&A video he finally admitted that the reason he said this literally boiled down to "because in the 80's I was a happy kid, in the 00's I got to start making a living off silly internet videos, and in the 90's I was an awkward teenager that got picked on." This was in his *own* words, not something to be gleamed from context clues. It had NOTHING to do with media, the economy, social norms, or anything like that. Fair enough on him for feeling this way, but keep in mind that he had spend dozens of videos acting like the 90's being a bad decade was an objective fact based on scientific observations instead of being 100% circumstantial to his own unfortunate experiences.
He needs to get over himself. How many of those high school bullies even remmber his name? That was 25 years ago. He's like the millenial version of the my grandfather who is still moaning about rationing cards 100 years later
Somebody said it best about Movieslob. He claims to be a great gamer and movie lover , but everything he loves is surface level stuff like Pixar or Marvel or Mario.

I think Bob is GENUINELY the only person I've seen hated by everyone no matter where they are on the political spectrum. Like even the folks he "aligns" with (Lindsay Ellis as an example) can't stand him.
He's like YHVH in Shin Megami Tensei II, who's such a massive tyrant that even His own side hates Him. Now I've imagined MovieBob as a giant floating yellow head who spouts his Twitter posts at you as an attack.
Nah the leftists hating him are just the pot calling the kettle black. There are so many vile things said by self-proclaimed leftists and Bob just happens to be one of the many loonies out there.
I remember being on his Twitter once and replied to a comment about Batman where I hoped they'd bring back some cool bat vehicles and focus on his detective skills a little more and Bob went off on me saying I was 'trying to make Batman young again " To this day I have zero earthly clue what he was talking about. I cut him out of my social feed after that.
Imagine Bob, Lily Orchard and Steve Shives pitted against eachother in a boxing match. A duel of people with zero self-awareness who let polarized politics ruin their online careers and turn them into jokes.
Bob seems like a BIG guy, not just in width, but height. I bet he would just dominate internet e-celeb fighting contests because it turns out a lot of these other dudes are TINY. And none of them are athletic so it's not like a Shives could outlast him in the ring. It'd be just Bob mauling the dude.
What's funniest to me regarding Bob's stance on Eugenics is that you take one good look at that...specimen, and you just know he'd be one of the first to go in the very Eugenics program he supports.
It’s kind of part and parcel; from its origins in Social Darwinism and Herbert Spencer, it’s always been about advocating for yourself or shielding yourself from first and foremost.
I hated the Game Overthinker's "Story" stuff. Most basement critics didn't realize that the reason why AVGN's comedy sketches worked is because he was an actual film maker that studied film and was passionate about story telling. Oh, and they didn't go on FOREVER like the Game Overthinker's sketches did.
@notsyzagts7967 I'm sure if James wanted to retire, he'd be fine. He seems like he'd be well off. Bob had to keep going though. Thus the consequences terminal online syndrome
Fun fact: you can no longer buy "SMB3 Brick by Brick" Bob is so ashamed of that piece of shit, that he's tried his best to erase it from history, Stalin style
Most likely because people started throwing his words against him since they came of that book. So he pulled a stalin and tried to make sure nobody else could use it. By that point, the book had been digitalized and immortalized
Bob is the perfect example of the 2014-16 shift Before he was a somewhat respected reviewer then he jumped into politics attacked his former audience and is now largely despised by his old audience
Bob is more self aware than Chris I will give him that but that also what makes him more dangerous because he can easily influence and manipulate his viewers into becoming like him.
No, because Chris-Chan is so incompetent that virtually no one takes him seriously. Also, I don't think Chris was ever a paranoid political extremist like Movieblob is.
Not really, the only thing they really have in common is that they're mentally unstable, but at least Bob doesn't have any creepy fetishes or anything like that. In fact, Bob feels like he's on the opposite end of the spectrum from Chris-Chan, because Bob seems to have complete awareness of what he's doing, while Chris-Chan seems to lack any self-awareness whatsoever.
@@norcalroamer5774 chris is definitely more dangerous. Tried to hit a man with a car who banned him from his store for being racist. Sxually assaulted his own mom with hints of wanting to do this with women before.
So wait, if Bob despised everything Trump liked, then what if Trump liked Mario Bros. 3, let alone Nintendo in general would Bob have to force himself to despise what he loved so dearly?
He would've been like Stan from the Eminem music video, and take off everything Mario off his walls and shelves, taking a 5th of vodka and driving, only to wind up crashing into water, drowning.
We could draw connections if we wanted to. Something like this Trump was at one point or maybe still is friends with Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson is in Punch-Out, Mario was the referee in Punch-Out and is also in Smash with Little Mac ever since Brawl.
That would divide Bob by zero and eradicate him from existence in all timelines. We wouldn't even be having this conversations because there'd be no video to have it under because there would be no Bob.

The old school, angry reviewer era, where there would just be random nearly-incomprehensible story arcs in every video, and every reviewer played at least one evil version of themselves, was unironically the best era
Yes, I do want 50% of this review of an obscure kids movie to be about defeating the reviewers evil twin, and for the reviewer to sacrifice themselves in a scene that could be Oscar worthy. Then the review ends with a fart joke
As a Libertarian myself, hearing that Bob once described himself as a Libertarian is so... bizarre to me. There was once a time when political topics got under my skin enough to where I genuinely could not think about anything else, but thankfully I managed to crawl out of that mindset. I do ocassionally fall into a similar funk, but not nearly as often due to making several improvements in my life. Hearing how Moviebob started feels like looking into a mirror and seeing an alternate universe where I never ended up improving. It feels cathartic to see how I have improved, but it also makes me feel bad for him. He is utterly trapped in a mindset that is ruining him yet he is too angry to care.
I realized what was happening and I just cut myself off from Twitter, only ever going back if somebody else linked me something and for a certain non-political topic.
You could honestly make a second video solely of how Marvel movies melted his brain, cause when you think they're gonna unite the world in a "post-national cinema" that would supplant organized religion and that criticizing them is like saying the N-word, that's a level of crazy I'd kill to see unpacked.

So out of abject (some night say morbid) curiosity, I decided to check out what Bob thought of the new super Mario brothers movie that came out a few months ago. I found his review, and I have never heard anyone give a more disappointed positive review in my life. You can actually hear the contempt and disappointment in his voice. He wanted nothing more than this movie to be bad so he could rip this thing to absolute shreds about how his childhood was trampled under foot by illumination… and the fact that they managed to nail it and make a really good movie in my opinion is just so utterly disappointing and frustrating to him that he genuinely doesn’t know how to react

Moviebob's political imagination is too small to think beyond an individualistic level. He can recognize that there are ills in society, but rather than his enemy being concentrations of power or any particular systems or mechanisms of that power, he thinks everything bad would go away if we just got rid of all those dumb bad people that support bad things, as opposed to good righteous "worthwhile" people such as himself. So he can have some principles, but only to express that people are "good" or "bad", rather than opposition to general ideas. I'd like to make the argument that Twitter didn't necessarily destroy Eugenics Robert's mental state in 2016 so much as it was ultimately a mask falling off moment. Bob was *always* like this his whole life. Most parents give their kids goals and aspirations at a young age to cultivate a sense of healthy autonomous agency into young adulthood. His parents made the mistake of having TV and Nintendo raise him with very little meaningful interaction with him (which explains how estranged Bob is to his own family outside of enablers like his brother). Bob and his family share Chris Chan's stubbornness for improvement since even early childhood; both of which involved rejecting therapeutic and medical health at an early age. The end result was Bob relying heavily on his junk food being his *only* form of comfort food. His fringe extremism is his main personality. Bob has created an insulated cocoon with his "junk food" of consoomerism that whenever he sees Nintendo or his narrow politics come into question, he feels personally attacked. His personality is attacked. He feels in theological danger with a fight-or-flight mentality that only let's his artery clogged digits do all the flying on a smartphone keyboard to Twitter. If it weren't anymore evident in his own book no less, Bob is a coward. He can't face his own living family, let alone respect dead ones to show condolences. He hasn't used the money he made through Escapist or Geek to move out his mom's "basement apartment". He's just miserable in the falsetto of his eco chamber of self-indulgence, because that's all he has. That's all he'll ever know of the world he's too slacktivist to engage in or how he might be in danger of humanizing the same vicarious mean 'ol jock bullies he sees the rest of society Bob envisions anyone different than him to be.
I don't like Bob either, but comments like yours are what will lead to his suicide. There's no reason to have such a personally vindictive vendetta against another human being

Moviebob is the Mario answer to Sonic's Chris Chan. The man is so drugged on politics that he's basically mentally dead. The guy thinks he's a genius and a thinker when the truth is he's more of a sheep than actual sheep. Before he would consider Bayonetta an example of a female badass, but when Sarkissian said she's a sexist character Bob would denounce Bayonetta. Gamergate was where his political lunacy came out in force, but the only 'epic' moment for Bob there was when Totalbiscuit wiped the floor with Bob by reminding him that Bob was a college dropout whilst TB completed University and concluded that Bob is a clown. Concerning is Bob's opinions as shown in the Moviebob or Nazi segment. His rhetoric sounds something closer to Nazi ideology. As for the book, well, it definitely sheds some light to Bob's madness.
I’d also add that Chris Chan wants to look like a child online, playing with toys and drawing comics. Moviebob wants to look like an adult online, being ridiculously political and trying to sound sophisticated.
Blob in his early days was kinda reasonable guy with reasonable opinions (there is an ancient video by Sargon of Akkad from like 2015 about it) but contact with Anita destroyed the guy. He wanted to impress her and her feminist minions and that started his downfall. It was GamerGate, not 2016 ellections.
@@jakublulek3261 Honestly I think his contact with places like twitter and other left leaning places enlarged the already left leaning fires in Bob into raging inferno of hatred against anything that isn't on his side of the political spectrum. This only worsened as his efame grew as it all began to go to his head.
It’s not just because the Ghostbusters are women, but it’s really unfunny, the jokes are so immature, and the script is just copying the homework from the original Ghostbusters script but making it way worse. Even some high school friends of mine who were girls at the time saw the movie hated it.
Thanks for mentioning just how absurdly opinionated the Gamergate Wikipedia article really is. You should also check the talk page, where 2-3 power editors engage in personal attacks and namecalling with whoever tries to discuss the article or its sources. Whichever values Wikipedia is supposed to uphold, that article does a great job of completely throwing them in the trash. Seeing how the site admins allow this makes you wonder where else they sacrifice any kind of rigor for an agenda.
Gamergate is so fascinating when you see the mainstream sites like Wikipedia covering it compared to the smaller or lesser known ones covering the same topic and same applies for those covering it in retrospect. How aggressively one side fights to uphold their values over the other and how far they’ll create their subjective narrative of the whole saga.
The same thing I say to everyone who has a problem with wikipedia, bring sources and be ready to defend yourself. Even editors can't escape if the problems get put to a vote of consensus. The problem I often see when people complain about biassed stuff they don't have proper sources other than some random blog or yt video.
@@rayvenkman2087 I was a teenager when it went down and was well into it. In retrospect, it really was a harassment campaign at heart and only secondarily an inquiry into gaming journalism. It absolutely reeked of the same overzealousness that people point to with current campaigns to cancel people where an often loose ‘moral’ justification is used to attempt to utterly ruin as much of someone’s life as possible. The difference is that there were a worryingly high volume of credible threats surrounding GamerGate. That’s why people joke about the whole “ethics in gaming journalism” thing because it’s a nice, flowery premise which simply doesn’t hold water when looking at the lack of ethics quite a lot of outspoken proponents of GamerGate had. You’re right about people across the web attempting to preserve one narrative or another about it, Wikipedia included, but from my personal experience with it, it was such a ridiculously overblown crucible of extremism that more often than not went too far while invoking hypocritical justification. While we’re talking about the ridiculous extremism of people like MovieBob, it’s worth recognizing that things like GamerGate are part and parcel with that kind of radicalization. The best propaganda is based on distortion of the truth, not outright fabrication.

9:40 i was online quite a lot in 2014, and somehow GamerGate completely flew over my head. I remember it being #1 on Angryjoe's "top 10 gaming controversies of 2014" list and being like "wtf is this? i remember almost all the other things on this list"
I think it really depended on what circles you were in at the time. I was a kid when it was major (i think like summer 2014) but I didn’t hear about it until like 2 years later because all i watched in 2014 were lets players and gravity falls theorists
I remember it happening, I wasn't involved in it though. Only ever got an outsiders glance into it. All I ever got from it was someone slept with a journalist, and the journalist was the one who reviewed her game or something like that. That said, I have to commend Anita Sarkeesian, she totally scammed a bunch of people. She made a ton of money off this whole thing, by Kickstarting doing TH-cam videos that anyone could have done. Like, you can hate her or love her, but you can't deny that she saw people blind with anger, and reached into their wallets. lol
I take issue with the implications that Bob’s content was ever good. @@rayvenkman2087 There was a truly funny and original show that also frankly fit the site’s vibe way better that I believe was called Rockumentary. The story of MovieBob's descent into madness hits hard for me, but not because of MovieBob himself. This story reminds me of another content creator named AniMat. He's a Canadian animation and cartoon reviewer/historian who started off quite strong. But as the 2010's trekked on, AniMat would go through the very same beats as MovieBob. Like MovieBob, AniMat became an incredibly toxic and hostile individual addicted to politics and demonizing anyone who disagreed with him, became an ardent user of Twitter, and would act in such a condescending and holier-than-thou manner that it became hysterical and even kind of funny. By the end of 2020, I stopped watching his videos due to how irrational he got and how far he fell from grace. Now, AniMat is not as radical as MovieBob (don't get me wrong, he's still up there). But it's kind of uncanny how similar their stories are.
I remember when he called Sony Animation the worst thing to ever happened to animation due to the Hotel Transylvania movies and The Emoji Movie. (This was Before Spiderverse and Mitchells btw). But the Straw that broke the camel's back in my opinion was always shoving his goddamn USA political views on his podcast and ALWAYS blamed Trump for even the pettiest of reasons. Some tragedy happened on the USA or in his native canada? Trump's Fault Covid? Trump's Fault Floyd Protest? Trump's fault He trips and hits his face on the sidewalk? Trump's fault Add that to his squeaky voice and overreacting and one day he says to his viewers "If you hate me for always talking about politics on my ANIMATION podcast/channell then unsubscribe" I said "I had enough of this dude" and unsubscribed. And i've never regretted it ever since. Does he still talk shitty politics on his podcast or his voice finally hit puberty?
@@monstercombo007 Heh, I remember the days when he had a massive bias against Sony Pictures Animation. I believe it came to a climax when he said that the animators who worked on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs should consider a career change. Yeah...that's just cold. But, personally speaking, I'd rather take all of his biased criticism against Sony than a single second of his political rantings. A key issue is that he's incredibly arrogant, acting so smugly about what he's talking about that you don't want to listen to him. He wants to be seen as a serious commentator, but it always devolves into him screaming at the top of his lungs at those who disagree with him. A key example of this was during his podcast episode on the results of the 2020 U.S Election. This podcast was what caused me to give up on him, specifically when he went after anyone who was a centrist or politically neutral. To add salt to an open wound, a few days later, he updated the description with a non-apology that made him look even more tone-deaf (it's lost to time now). However, I think the biggest issue I have with him is that he's just not a very good critic. Granted, he started out quite strong when he began. But he started making reviews in 2009, and even during the late 2010's, he never changed his style...at all. Compared to dozens of others, his reviews come across as formulaic, bland, and very rigid in terms of structure. Combine this with the egotism and addiction to politics and you've got a recipe for disaster. Because of him, I learned about movies and series that I never knew about. If anything, there's that. But when it comes to using the internet and growing, you take what you know and improve and hone your craft. Many reviewers and content creators know this, AniMat didn't. He simply never grew up.
@@tom.fletcherI remember that non-apology. I also remember when the Capitol Riots happened that he said that "This is the new 9/11" and obviously many people were pissed about such statement and made ANOTHER Non-Apology saying that "The effects were similar" I then unsusbscribed his podcast and when he made that review of a Netflix movie about america's history, I simply gave up and said "No more" He never improved, He never changed, he was stuck with his political thumb up his ass. Even Goddamn Mr. Enter wasn't this petty, and at least he had the balls to admit he messed up and tried to change his style (even if it backfired). Pd: Lost to time? He deleted his podcast or something?
@@monstercombo007 Sorry about that! I meant to say that the non-apology he made is lost to time, as he removed it from the description of the podcast episode. In the comment section, he pinned a comment announcing that he was taking back his apology. In AniMat fashion, he ended the statement by saying, and I kid you not, "now for those who felt offended by that statement, you owe me an apology for being right this whole time." Yeah, this man's ego and narcissism are Olympus Mons' levels of massive. It would be pretty interesting to see MagicMush do a video on AniMat. Maybe in the future.
My friends and I occassionally jokingly refer to his "I needed the 1993 Mario movie to be good because Mario is my friend" bit from 'Brick by Brick' constantly as it really encapsulates the consoomer who is convinced certain companies and brands are like friends or family to them.
In my experience, the descent into these terrible rabbit-holes can be incredibly emotionally draining, after a while you just feel like an empty husk unable to properly socialize anymore. Kind of like how Moviebob has ended up (still can't believe I ever took him seriously). So at the very least, it might make some people too miserable to wanna stay in these holes for too long.
Movie bob to me represents the worst aspects of nerd culture in America in modern times highly politicized entertainment because they have a found a following they develop an inflated ego and delusion of themselves, thinking they’re worth more to society than they actually are. We all have our politics, but it important not to be our sole identity.
This is why I’ve distanced myself from nerd culture nowadays, although I was a big part of it during my high school years from 2015-2019 as everyone in my class all shared the same interests. But ever since leaving high school everyone has moved on and don’t even watch western nerd culture media anymore but instead either independent works or anime and it shows ever since going to college.
MovieBob is probably one of the few lolcows that can genuinely make me angry. Even with some leftoid or rightoid youtubers that can be obnoxious, they mostly just hate certain viewpoints and ideologies and believe in helping people. MovieBob on the other hand straight up just HATES certain people and believes he's justified in doing so. I can relate in being a bit of a Nintendo apologist and having a short fuse from time to time, but Movie Bob not only does no effort in calming himself down, he genuinely seeks anger and is addicted to it.
The funny thing is, Bob was fully capable of writing great movie essays (his "Really That Good" video for Spider-Man 1 and 2 I do remember enjoying) but it's too bad he has a terrible personality otherwise.
I tried watching Moviebob years ago, but he honestly sounded like someone who thinks is really smart, uses lots of "big" words and ends up talking a lot without actually saying anything. Oh, and no matter how much I love the church scene in Kingsmen, Moviebob seemed to miss everyone's reaction while it was happening and Harry being disgusted about what he did afterwards. I guess I watched a different movie than he did if that was what he took from the scene...
I beg to differ. He uses hard words effectively and accurately and makes sophisticated points. I don't find him to be pedantic. He also makes interesting points that I haven't seen elsewhere. It shouldn't be normal to resent writers for using college level vocabulary. That's what they went to college for and that's why these words exist
Had a friend like movie bob. Without the crazy political shit. Instead of nintendo and shitty movie reviews it was nintendo, anime and memes. Had a falling off. God, I hope he didn’t turn out like movie bob.
Most people in the 90s didn't make their console of choice their entire personality the way Moviebob did. I was a gamer, and loved good games for any system I could play them on. If you swore off playing Genesis titles like a vow of celibacy, you did yourself a disservice. Even the Atari Jaguar had a few games worth playing despite being the weakest link of the mainstream consoles released in the 90s.
@@Lastjustice I remember as a kid, I had a PS1, and when I found out a friend of mine had a Nintendo 64 I was like "Wowee! More games! I wanna play the one with the funny snowman beating up the masked dude!" Why people take console wars personally is beyond me.
@@tafua_a I had preferences to what system I liked, but I never was like I will not play X system. I was much more of a fan of game series over loyalty to any system. I have always loved Megaman, and played those games regardless of what console it appeared on. The games are always going be far more important than the hardware it runs on.
you got the right idea, participating in petty online wars only ends in making yourself upset, wasting your own time and pushing away friends over minor differences in perspective. doing something with a visible impact usually involves leaving the house, and for most people that's too big an ask.
Petty online wars are GREAT if you're self aware. For example, pineapple on pizza. This is a stupid thing to argue about. We all have different tastes. But I'm dying on the hill that it tastes great
I think it's not really about politics, or Nintendo, or whatever the topic of the online holywars is. It's social media and holywaring itself. It's easy and fun to dunk on cringe people online, but I think it's a genuine crisis of psychological health our society is facing. Social media, at least the way it works today, is terrible for our sanity, both individual and collective.
What happened to Moviebob is exactly what happened to Shmorky, a popular internet content creator who sold his soul to the "culture war" and let it ruin his life to the point where everyone turned against him. In Shmorky's case, it was Tumblr and identity politics, while in Moviebob's case, it was Twitter, Gamergate and the anti-Trump hysteria of 2016 and afterwards. Of course, Bob didn't have any creepy fetishes like Shmorky did, but did become a completely different person after they got into modern social media. And the sad part is that they're far from the only ones who fell completely from grace. Remember Spoony? The story behind what happened to him is quite insane in of itself.
@@DarranKern Shmorky was just a very creepy person, and that almost always seems to happen whenever someone let's Twitter or Tumblr take over their lives.
Don't forget the almighty nintendo
"hmm, I wonder what happens when socialist ideology tries to combine with corporations worship? Let's look at this history book from the 1930s... Oh no... Ohhhhh nooooooo!"
And, sadly, a man child who has lost any moral compass or sense of integrity the media he has consumed has actually instilled in many a man-child.

Bringing the world together, one tweet at a time!

Fun fact Moviebob used to have dreams where Iwata and Miyamoto would give him some key to "save video games" and his life goal was to save video games from Call of Duty and Gears of War ect (Think of it like how Linkara's life goal was to save comic books from the 90s and Frank Miller)

Moviebob is the Mario answer to Sonic's Chris Chan. The man is so drugged on politics that he's basically mentally dead.
The guy thinks he's a genius and a thinker when the truth is he's more of a sheep than actual sheep.
MovieBon would've been a cheerleader for the Strasserites

AniMat is such a sad story because he legitimately makes great content when not political, or sounding like a dog toy.
Trump's Fault
Covid? Trump's Fault
Floyd Protest? Trump's fault
He trips and hits his face on the sidewalk? Trump's fault
Add that to his squeaky voice and overreacting and one day he says to his viewers "If you hate me for always talking about politics on my ANIMATION podcast/channell then unsubscribe"
I said "I had enough of this dude" and unsubscribed.
I also remember when the Capitol Riots happened that he said that "This is the new 9/11" and obviously many people were pissed about such statement and made ANOTHER Non-Apology saying that "The effects were similar"

He never improved, He never changed, he was stuck with his political thumb up his ass.
