Day 4 of my externship....I'm very calm and just soaking up information. However, me remembering is becoming difficult. I think knowing the steps will HELP remember what I need. I'm just trying to read the Dentist mind; you know. Lol
I’m in a 9 week dental assistant school where we meet once a week. It feels like wayyyyy too much to learn in such a short time. My externship is coming up and I’ve only had three classes 😵💫 I’m still learning numbers and names of the different areas of the teeth let alone all the other things. I’m beyond worried. Thanks for the tips!
It is a lot to learn for sure! We are not fans of those accelerated programs for that reason. Just be mentally prepared to work hard and try to learn as much as you can at your externship. The rest it will be all on the job training
@@DentalVibes have you seen the accelerated programs work out for anyone before? I didn’t know anything about being an assistant. I was just scrolling job sites one day and saw a lot of postings and thought they probably have good work life balance and looked up how to become one and ended up in this program. It wasn’t until after I started that I was told that we were frowned upon and there was 18 month programs that were better 😕
@@meganmorgan7491 yes! It all depends on you! Will it be a bumpier start? YES! But you can do it. You have to hustle on your own to obtain the knowledge. Study your book, watch lots of videos, If you can stay longer at your externship. Even if it’s 1x a week while you’re looking for a job. You have to show offices you’re worth them training you, but it is possible 🦷 watch this th-cam.com/video/ydsak1tYQ_4/w-d-xo.html
I graduated a dental assistant program via online so I have no hands on experience AT ALL!! I start my first externship at a oral surgeon office 😬. Im so SCARED 😢 but excited. If anybody has any extra tips assisting a oral surgeon I’ll greatly appreciate it.
@@kaedoll731 I’m so late I apologize. My internship experience wasn’t bad I didn’t do anything besides sit back & watch. Sit back and take lots of notes and if possible try to get involved. SPEAK UP & ASK SOMETHING IF YOU DONT KNOW. Hope all is going well for you
Hi, I just started my externship the second day the assistants didn’t even help me I was just in the lab which I didn’t mind, I was asking questions and they just called me annoying. And they didn’t want me to have a notebook. And this is when all the assistants started too tell me to figure it out. What would you do in this situation?
Aleisha Craft yay so exciting!! Get ready to learn and give your all! If they don’t hire you or you just don’t want to stay there make sure to get a letter of recommendation
Hello again I just wanted to let y’all know I love yalls videos very helpful keep them coming girls☺️ but I have a question!🤭 what are some great questions to ask during your interview? From a RDA point of view I have a few down just want to see what I can add or what is very important 😊
Estefany Salgado awww we are so glad 🥰 so you really want to make sure you vibe with the office. Ask about growth opportunities, what is the their schedule like, when they are slow do they send people home, what time do they usually finish, does the dr like an assistant that is hands-on or do they like to do things themselves, what is their protocol for covid??? So many good questions lol but overall just make a personal list of things you’re looking for in a forever dental home and make sure they have that 🙂Good luck! You can always DM us on our IG @dentalvibes_ with questions
I just found you channel and I just started my internship and it’s been overwhelming the one thing I have been struggling is when a DA Is assistanting the doctor I cannot memorize what is it next I go blank and forget the whole procedure I forget the instruments which I also berly know what can I do to over come this and be confident also I have only done online school witch is only lectures I have not done any labs so when I’m in that Doctor office I don’t know what the heck is going on please help!😭
Estefany Salgado first breath! You will get it eventually lol second I think you’re program didn’t prepare you fully but too late now 🙃 get a pocket notepad. For every procedure write the steps and why those steps need to be done. Review it over and over again. Instruments you just have to memorize take pics of set up and label it. Every dr works differently so every office you go you will have to learn new things. In this field you will never stop learning...hang in there! You got this
Thank you! Also I am a shy person and it’s also been hard getting in there and getting in the DA Groove and routine you know? but they don’t really Communicate with me I feel like they treat like ohh she’s just a student she doesn’t need to be included idk it’s just how I feel?
Everything you practiced and can perform as a dental assistant. If you took X-rays, impression, chairside assisting, temporary crowns, patient education, treatment plans, etc
Hey Queens, I had to complete a 40 hour externship at an orthodontist office and it’s my last day this week. But the whole time I have been doing sterilization, I never got to sit in the chair or work on a patient, is that common? I’m a little disappointed since I did everything they wanted, I cleaned every instrument, took out the trash, asked questions and everything I watched many of your videos to prepare for this moment and it wasn’t really what I expected . I wish I would of picked a different office :/
Hello! Unfortunately, it’s not what it’s supposed to happen in your externship. You will only learn by doing it yourself. We recommend you staying longer while you look for a job. Even if it’s 1x a week. If they won’t let you get chairside try to find an office that will. You need to practice
