Ardupilot on tiny CC3D revo mini ( test flights day 1 ) - part 3

  • An autonomous plane at this size is a neat trick to be sure, but I found the short flight time is a bit of a drag when you're trying to tune and test.
    Yes, I realized later that you can't arm in auto mode, but I forgot to change the overlay text in the video...

    "But let's watch a little more failure first..." Anyone who has used ArduPilot and MissionPlanner can relate to "if I had a dime for every time I calibrated this compass..." and "that's not Return to Launch...that's Disappear into Nowhere mode". But thank you so much for testing out the Revo port for the rest of us (and doing that on top of learning ArduPilot and MP is hero-level stuff).

    I greatly admire your patience and persistence.
    I would have been wielding a big axe (or a flame-thrower) by about halfway through this test....
    You'll fix it. You usually do

    Arr Chris you are the only person that makes instructional that are able to be followed. Hoping to try Pixhawk auto tune today and if all goes well my Inav Hero 32. Wishing they'd flash my Inav for arduplane but still may be a good day or really bad. Except the dam wind is picking up and its only 8am.

    Thanks for biting the bullet for us... Love the informative videos...
    24:22.. Check the "Distance to WP" before and after the Altitude hits 35 meters in the box on the left. The Distance to WP seems to overflow to 65535 ( max 16 bit number).

      oh yeah, I missed that. It looks like the mission reset switch causes it to use some invalid waypoint data maybe.

    Howdy Chris, only part way in. I had a similar issue with RTH with an early version of iNav. One attempt, it went for China :/ Matt

    Awesome video xD You need to switch off compass and never touch it again. Ignore the bad AHRS, because the AP can't tell which direction it's facing on the ground, but will be fine in the air. Set your arming requirements to exclude AHRS check. I think the bad compass is half you fly away etc problems. Leave compass headaches to the multirotor guys :) We have our own challenges... The altitude issue is a new one for me - maybe your mission reset also set the altitude. What's your home altitude ASL?

    Confused about how you managed to get ibus working on the mission planner and board. Thought ibus was not supposed to be supported. Been trying all day? My receiver seems to be the same as yours (FS-IA6B). Any help appreciated.

    As said in a video a month or so ago that AHRS issue even though tour on a new board should be addressed every thing you read all forums and videos say they've all got intermittent Bad AHRS. Why ardu been around much longer than Inav.

  • @sUASNews
    @sUASNews 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have any reflex on the surfaces when level at the start? The cheaper boards have cheaper components, but still a great way to find out about Arduplane and then upgrade the hardware. You are testing cutting-edge firmwares here, one of the first in fact so well done you! Oh and you need a Taranis so you can try this and forget the laptop, and know exactly what the machine thinks it's doing. discuss.ardupilot.org/t/an-open-source-frsky-telemetry-script-for-the-taranis-x9d-x9e-and-qx7-radios/26443/145 Father Christmas must have one lying around that you could, ahem, borrow.

    I have never used ardupilot, but if the compass and gps don't match shouldn't it auto calibrate the compass to align with the GPS direction?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it actually has that kind of capability, if you enable it somewhere in the settings.

    • @kc8omg
      @kc8omg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure that's part of what a compass calibration does, in normal flight if they mismatch I would think that's usually a strong indicator of a hardware issue.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In normal flight there will be more current running along the battery wires next to the compass, giving different values to when the motor is not running. I think Hyss means that using the GPS heading and assuming the plane is facing forward in the direction of movement, a better calibration could be done in flight.

    • @kc8omg
      @kc8omg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      iforce2d gotcha, I had actually been wondering about that (throttling up causing more magnetic force), because I think I saw one of the autopilots, might have been ArduPilot, has something like a "calibrate compass with motors running" (and props off ;-p). Makes sense that by default it would consider a mismatch to be a bad thing though.

    Dude, did you know in plane you can turn the compasses off all together? It uses GPS speed to guage heading like your in car sat nav. Far less hassle. You need to change the bitmask for arming checks so you can arm. Caveat! If windspeed is greater than your ground speed and not in the same direction, you're buggered.

      I replicated it with a minipix in an s800 sky shadow last week and also got bad ahrs with both compasses off. This did not self rectify until I moved the plane on the ground at least 10 metres with 3D lock so the fc knew its heading. As an aside, data flash showed internal compass afterwards had around 340% interference in the onboard compass! Ouch. I drilled the fc case and stacked it onto the current sensor- which wouldn't have helped.

  • @yokonunz
    @yokonunz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose you need to disable internal compass. Too close to power wires

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried that today, couldn't arm.

    • @iforce2d

  • @headfog7621

    Maybe sheild the compass from the power wires with aluminum or copper tape.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think magnetic fields work like that :) Besides, the compass is trying to sense the magnetic field of the earth....

      actually the strong electric current can mess up a magnetometer happend to me to
