Answering YouTube Comments Ep. 1 - Glucose Tolerance Testing in Pregnancy

Today, we are talking about how we test for diabetes in pregnancy. We usually use glucola, a sugary drink. We check your blood sugar an hour after you drink it. If your blood sugar is elevated, you may be asked to do a three-hour glucola test. More glucola, more blood draws. Some women have trouble tolerating glucola. Substitutes have been suggested, like jelly beans or Twizzlers. And sometimes we test for diabetes without giving you sugary substances - we simply have you check your blood sugars for a couple of weeks and look at the values.
