I can confirm the upgrade does not work. My Hyundai was stolen yesterday. When it was recovered the thieves used the exact method described. They even leave the USB in the ignition and the car didn’t alarm or shut off the engine. I always lock with the key fob and I had the only copy with me in my home while my car was parked in the street

I don't understand how that is possible unless y'all aren't locking your doors. The alarm had to have gone off and the car wouldn't start up. Help me understand

Same. I used the key fob to lock my door. My car was stolen out of my driveway without a sound.

Exactly it doesn't work I did the update anti theft system on May 3rd 2023 and today June 22 2023 they stole it so I think the dealership just put the stickers in the windows and lied and said they did the update 😡😡 I seriously thought I could have peace of mind thinking the update was going to be safe little did I know it was a bunch of crap .. planning to sue Kia

You must didn't lock your car doors. Did you not hear the car alarm going off? I don't understand how this is possible when the car won't start unless you have the key and key fob. I tested my system out and it works perfectly. I locked myself in the car after I locked the doors with the fob. I waited 30 seconds b4 I tried to put the key in to start it up. Once the 30 seconds was up, I had put the key in and as soon as I did, the alarm went off. I tried starting it up but it wouldn't. I repeated this test by opening the door manually after I locked it with the key fob. The alarm went off immediately. So mine works. Maybe you should test it out on your car if/when you get it back.

I just had my Elantra upgraded and I was reading the description of the recall:
"The software upgrades certain Hyundai vehicles equipped with standard “turn-key-to-start” ignitions so they cannot be started without their keys when subjected to the popularized theft method. When exiting their vehicles, customers will need to lock their doors with their key or key fob button in order to set the factory alarm and activate the software's “ignition kill” feature."

How about a cutoff switch in the car and in the key to turn on or off?

  • @zhammmy
    @zhammmy 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

My tenant's Kia Soul and my wife's Kia Optima both prevented the thieves from stealing the cars away.
Simple, lock the car with the key fob, the horn will sound, confirming the car is locked.
Even if you break the window to enter the car, destroy and take out the ignition key cylinder, turn the switch with a USB receptor/plier, the car horn will sound, and the engine will not start.

You can not stop a thief from stealing your car!!! No anti theft prevention will work.. especially when u put it on tv how the car was updated.. so buy a horn alarm that set off if door of car is open... but do not hold your breath!😊😊

Hyundai/Kia write themself off saying they meet standards there is no problem. If that were even true, why not exceed standards? The only way to redeem themselves is this:
    1) Create a video and shoot it in real time. 20 mins or 3 hours, people can fast forward if they want
    2) They need to release a video of a car starting normally with the key
    3) disassembled the ignition, take apart all the plastic, take it apart Ect. Like the thieves do exposing the little piece of metal they turn with the usb. We've all seen it before anyway.
    4) doors locked and the only entry is through a lowered window.
    5) Now turn the engine and if the engine starts you can tell me you met basic safety standards and definitely did not cut corners during manufacturing. People have an expectation when they purchase certain things. Like when you rent an apartment you expect it to have locks on the doors and windows, not ducktape holding them shut. Hyundai and kia resorted to using ducktape during manufacturing. I would have rather had a safe starting system and forgone the sunroof I never use, or the fancy oversized screen that every car has these days, or lots of other unnecessairy features. These manufacturers will do none of this, they would rather avoid responsibility and sell new models with upgrades and let over 10 years and millions of models out there go to hell. We wont buy one of your new models either as we will now wonder what you cut corners on with the fancy new models.

Test it - then report back. Sit in car with door closed and key out of the ignition. Lock doors with the Key Fob. Wait at least 30 seconds (important0. Place key in the ignition, the alarm should sound. Turn key to start - engine should fail to turn over.

  • @prettyboyjesse

Hopefully another class action comes against KIA/Hyundai. I really wish they would just buy back all of these cars. From engine fires to failure to theft. The problem is that they never put an immobilizer in these vehicles in the first place.
They charge over $200 to replace a flip out key that does not have a chip in it. So they have been saving money by not protecting their customers.
Honda solved this problem "The Honda ignition key features an electronic code that makes it practically impossible to duplicate. Only recognition of this electronic signature by the immobilizer system will allow the fuel-injection system and ignition circuitry to be activated."
The ignition can be bypassed with the USB because there is nothing stopping the ECU from letting the engine start up. Their software fix programs the ECU to not allow the vehicle to start if the doors are locked from the FOB.
Now why they did not do this from the very start who knows? It would have prevented theft. My guess is that some people do not lock their doors with the fob and or if you lose the fob you lose the ability to pair another when the car is still locked or armed. If you try to press the unlock button from inside of the KIA with the system locked it will re-lock the doors very quickly. So to pair another fob to disable to system you will have to force entry with some other way. Maybe if you have second fob already paired or something.

It's not just Honda that "solved" this problem. Most modern cars have chipped keys that all work on a similar principal and even have locking steering wheels to prevent theft. Even if they didn't used chipped keys, a simple locking steering wheel would of prevent most if not all thefts.
