You can only go so far with the Wakanda-as-a-utopia idea when it's basically a isolationist monarchic petrostate that decides succession through duels, and seems to restrict access to the heart-shaped herb (and by extension, the ancestral plane) only to the royal family.
@@jasonjones3328 "to fair the duel thing is rare" I don't think this is true. The entire premise of the ceremony seemed to be offering other noble houses a chance to defeat T'challa in combat to become the ruler. M'baku does not initiate or call for the ceremony, he just participates and accepts the open challenge. Also, it's literally named "challenge day".
Also can we talk about how Wakanda is supposed to be some sort of Utopia, but it's actually so bad that Nakia has to Meghan Markle herself and her child in the safe haven of... Haiti? Like what??
Re water grenades: most surface and underwater weaponry does its job by creating shockwaves in the water, which is what these grenades would do. The sudden change in pressure is how ship hulls and submarines get folded. On the ground and in the sky, air is the medium that shockwaves travel through, and air is MUCH less dense than water. You create the same kind of shockwave with that dense substance and there's a lot of destructive force.
If anything, that's the one thing I hope James Gunn /new DC actually does & avoids the MCU villian problem (Where they are sympathetic and make good points but ohh they go too far.) DC has so many iconic villains that are just straight evil and deserve the big screen treatment.
For me Namor's "world domination" plans made more sense than Killmonger's because he is a king. I saw his character's decisions being driven by that a lot, like kings are often megalomaniacs.
Looked cool and also mimicked the MesoAmerican sacred symbol of a war god, the hummingbird. That’s the pattern of their rapid, darting, briefly hovering flight. No other bird flies like that.
They seemed to reduce the show down to "Oscar Isaac plays loser with bad accent." Really bad take. I expected better from Spencer and Lon, but I'm disappointed by them more and more these days.
There's so much they could still do with the character. Season 1 felt like a setup for a season 2. I think a couple more episodes to let the tension build would have benefitted the show for sure~
@@TheNamekianClown I can appreciate what Spencer and Lon bring to the table, but just the two of them is a bit much. At least Danielle brightens it up a bit when she's there. I could watch a whole discussion on the Marvel villains going "too far". How they are a collective straw man argument against those who advocate for change in real life, because activism is guaranteed to turn violent (according to Marvel). And how violence is justified for the heroes but not the villains.
i think you didnt see the fact that those ae all not her jobs to do, shuri primary job is the scientist thing. she took over the doctor thing for his brother because shes the smartest. she has forced to be queen after her mothers death. she went on the mission because they are looking for a young kid and because she needed a break from the mourning of her brother.
I feel like it would've been nice to have mini-arc of Shuri learning martial arts to fight like the black panther, rather than just going into war and winging it late into the plot.
@@kingofthesharks no need for some Rockyesques or Skywalker training montogue. That's not necessary to move the story along. Remember they have to tell a story about her grief. Not how learned how to fight to be the Black Panther
Agreed, if you can put a ton of pressure around water and release it all at once, the damage would be insane. It doesn't take much fantasy for that tech be effective.
Wings on ankles are from 1939, not the fifties? In the fifties Atlas Comics brought back a de-powered Namor sans ankle wings, which lasted just over 3 years before Bill Everett restored his full power and wings. Is that your reference @2:30? It doesn't sound like it...
I keep thinking about the original script already been ready and suddenly "hey the main actor died, now what do we do?" ALV 😂 to rewrite the script and for Shuri to be the new Black Panther. Although I imagine that Maybe, in the original script ( before Chadwick's sad death) Shuri and Namor did end up together, (perhaps a Romeo and Juliet type of romance) but after Boseman's unfortunate death, they changed the script. Just an idea.
3hours was unnecessarily long for this movie by at least an hour. Marvel also needs to stop forcing female McGuffins into every plot because it's now getting tedious. I thought Namor was a good character and his origins were mostly well explained and a relatable villain although Marvel doing Marvel things at the end by making him go out like a punk felt underwhelming.
The occasional, well written Marvel villains only get defeated because instead of flipping three cop cars like Jean Grey did in Dark Phoenix, they actually go ape-sh*t.
They like to complain that Marvel movies and shows are all the same, then complain when they do something completely different. All the cool kids are doing it. 🤷
I just can't bring myself to watch something where a guy is flying around with tiny wings on his feet. even if they had the thrust, he'd be doing nothing but flips in the air cause there's no way to balance.
On the Moon Knight front, they seem to be setting up Midnight Suns which makes me think Marc Spector will be back either post-Blade or with whatever they do next with Werewolf by Night. I will say, I was into Namor. If they can introduce mutants this way and use lower tier mutants who aren't Prof X. and Magneto, I'm there for it.

@@JaiWithani But the whole Moon Knight story is built around his multiple personalities and mental illness. The show wasn't really "leaning on" something that's not central to the comics.

Just a couple thoughts... You spend so much time dumping on stuff you may be incapable of enjoying ANYTHING. Also, you might want to bring in some melanin perspective when critiquing a film with melanin perspective.
It's a fair complaint, but one they addressed at the intro of the video. There is melanin perspective involved in this script and the movie's criticism. Danielle is one of the main writers. She would normally be on set, but was occupied. Spencer and Lon even commented at the beginning that they wish Danielle was in studio today since they are several white guys critiquing a Black-centric movie. Did you not appreciate their "humor" asking for more scenes with Everett Ross and the white CIA characters?
Letitia Wright’s quiet arc of going through the stages of grief is being overshadowed by the (deserved) hype over Angela Bassett.
Letitia Wright (despite having some wonky opinions in real life) is outstanding in the movie and I wish people talked about her more.
I feel she carried the movie, honestly. When I went to bed after seeing it, Shuri was basically the only thing on my mind.
