Spectacular! Solo Bri was a total animal in the 90's, especially live! His power over crowds is just as underrated as his singing voice! As others have said, going solo was how Brian processed his grief for Freddie as well as his father's death (which took place very close together), his marriage falling apart and dealing with depression among other things. I love the imagery of the mountains and flames, symbolically and archetypally, its like he's going through his own "underworld" journey of sorts. I feel that with this song, Brian is determined to "rise up" out of his dark place of grief and depression and "resurrect" himself. It is so empowering. Some of Brian's other solo stuff include "back to the light","driven by you" (especially live at Brixton academy) and "another world" and "on my way up" to name a few are so raw and he just bares his soul. I love Brian's speaking voice as well as his singing voice! Its so silk/velvety soft, gentle, calm and warm yet at the same time it has a special power and grabs your attention and respect. He's every inch a gentleman, but he definitely isn't one to be underestimated!
I love Brian's solo work and his band was fantastic. This is the 90s because his band came to be after Freddie passed. Brian is finally letting loose after being held within the confines of Queen for so long. I have seen a different video with this in the past, perhaps a live performance. Cozy Powell was an exceptional drummer and Jamie Moses was an excellent guitar backup for Brian.
Cozy was a great friend and support for Brian at ruff times after Freddie died. You can hear anger and determination in Brian's voice and the song is a medicine for Brian "on his way up" from the dark hole of depression and despair. Brian said: Resurrection is built on hope and passion and belief - and fireworks!!!” 😮
This was a tough time in Brian’s life having lost Freddie and his father and still dealing with the effects of his divorce. He was in a very bad place mentally and went into treatment in Arizona. This album was his journey through all of this. This track was one of hope for him. Thank goodness he got to the other side.
This came out in 1992. I have the original cd release. Brian was the science fiction guy. Notice the chess board. The Queen is in checkmate. This was Brian's return to life after Freddie's death.
Brian was seriously depressed after Freddie died which, I believe, was the same year his father died and his marriage finally broke down. Fortunately, he got professional help and this is him on his way back up from the pit he had been in and no wonder after all that had happened.
Drummer is/was the legendary Cozy Powell (*rip) ... if you watch the live version (at Brixton Acc.) of this song, he included an epic drum solo worth checking out - even without a reaction! :) I've seen Brian and his band live in 1993 ("Back To The Light"-tour) and in 1998 ("Another World"-tour). If I had a follow up song for you, I would be: "All The Way From Memphis". A cover of "Moot The Hoople" (< fun fact: young Queen band was opening band for Moot in their early years, later the other way around!). Brian released a great, great audio version of it - no video, no live. Well, ... there are videos of Moot The Hoople feat. Brian May live, but not Brian May solo live. But I prefer the audio version andway < it's fun and great sound! :)
Cozy was a genius on the skins, one of the few drummers who has a solo hit with a drum solo"Dance with the devil".He also drummed on Brians"Driven by you" Which was used on an ad for Ford cars.
Cozy didn’t actually play on Driven by you (album & single version). Although he did play on a later version that was released on the b side of Too much love will kill you called “the cozy mix”
Sometimes it's preferred to hear the song through before watching the music video. This video is one of them, as the video is a bit distracting from the song. I recommended this video a short while back, and am happy you did it. It's one of my favorite tracks of Brian's solo work, and their live version (I believe I linked it in your double take) is awesome. The guitar solo is a bit different, but still great and it has a much longer drumsolo.
It's from the album Back to the light... basically Brian had been suffering with depression and the whole album reflects this. I watched the "Brian May Band" of whom were, Brian, Cozy, Neil Murray (Ex bass player from Whitesnake) Jamie Moses guitar, Spike Edney (Queen's live keyboard player) Shelly Preston (Bucks Fizz) and Kathy Porter. Trust me this band was outstanding...I saw them live 5 times. Live at the Brixton Academy was released and it's from the same week I saw them in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. Some future reviews for you guys 👌💙
Thank you Coach, also nice to see Mrs Coach with the giggles! I was lucky enough to see The Brian May band tour with Cozy in 1993, particularly like their version of Rainbow's "Since you've been Gone" (live) if you find the time to react to it, also don't forget The Cross (Roger Taylor) Cowboys and Indians (begging emoji)!
The video was very advanced for 1992 😮 It carries the story of Brian trying to get out of the dark hole of depression after his divorce, a death of his father and ultimately loosing Freddie. If you see the chessboard, the Queen is at checkmate position 😢 and Brian is desperately trying to climb to the light. He was so desperate that he contemplated suicide (he almost drove his car over the Hammersmith bridge but the thought of his children prevented him doing that). He said that his depression was so severe that even music didn't reach him. He eventually checked himself at the rehab clinic in Arizona and learned to deal with it.
Great comments and I love the song. I was lucky enough to see this performed live by The Brian May Band (including Cozy) in London. They also did a great version of Rainbow’s “Since You’ve Been Gone”. Might be a good one to find in 2025 if you get time. Cheers.
Love Cozy. RIP. Cozy died in a car accident in the late 90s. If I’m not mistaken he was on the phone with his girlfriend at the time. I think she was having car trouble and he was going to help her. He was a fantastic drummer and good friend of Brian’s.
Sadly it's true. 😅 Cozy's girlfriend was having problems with her husband. She rang Cozy and he was driving his car on a rainy motorway on his way to her home when she rang him again. At that moment (apparently because one of the tires blew up) he lost control over his car (even though he was an experienced racing car driver) and his car crashed. 😢
Brian May recalled in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock the late drummer Cozy Powell: “Yeah, Cozy was the core. Without Cozy, I don’t think I could have done it (a solo career). He had such a fountain of positivity and humor. He became the greatest friend. We lost Freddie and I kind of clung to Cozy as a mate and as a musical person to bounce off of. All of those sessions, Cozy would come in full of positivity. Sometimes I’d say, “Cozy, I don’t know if I feel up to it today.” He said, “But you do, you can feel up to it. We’ll do it. I’ll play hooligan, you just play and we’ll just do it.” He just kicked me into action every time. It was the greatest thing. My best friend in the business is Tony Iommi. So I also bumped into Cozy in some of Black Sabbath's sessions, and I was always blown away with the sound that Cozy got out of the drums. There’s a lot of drummers in this world - and a lot of good drummers, but certain drummers will sit down behind any kit and make it sound like an orchestra. Cozy is one of those people. I don’t know what it is - it’s in the fingers, it’s in the mind, but he made every kit sound huge, that he ever touched.”
@CoachCastTV yes, Cozy was an amazing drummer and a great human being. Brian said he didn't know where his roots were (he was adopted) but he was full of determination who he wants to be. Cozy like Brian also loved and respected animals. Brian said that when hunters attempted to cross his land, Cozy came out with a shot gun yelling: GET OFF OF MY LAND!
Another good one from Brian (with the Brian May band) is "Back to the light" ...it's a Coach type song. Personally I like his remastered version that's "Back to the light, Time traveler" The whole album was his journey as others have mentioned. Sadly he also lost Cozy (the drummer) not too many years later to a car accident. They were very good friends. Love Sir/Doc....any cheesy way I can get him! (Sorry coach. Not always right 😉)
Hey folks! Hang on, lemme crank up my speakers right quick. Ooowee, is this a favourite. Back in '93, I was driving around with the stupid exGF and we heard on the radio that The Doc suddenly had a day off and decided to play a pick-up at the Cleveland Agora. Well, we turned the car around and got right up against the stage (I got some great photos that night!) and got to hear his upcoming album "Back to the Light" and it was *amazing* . This song opened the show and it went off like a rocket. (If you ever get a chance to see the live DVD Live at Brixton, don't pass it up. The whole show was blazing) This was a really bad time in the Doc's life-losing Freddie, his marriage breaking up, (tho that one was all on him, really. Nobody forced him to cheat.) he even considered ending his life. This record was the end result of surviving that terrible time. He's always written from the heart, so we were very grateful for the positive tone on that record and this track specifically. After this, we figured he'd be okay. So sorry, this was '93, but it does sort of look like a Malmsteen video. The director's to blame really, not the artist. I don't usually advocate for live versions, but you really want to check out the Brixton version of this one. It really smokes. The Doc always said he "loves the noise", so in case I've been remiss, you should check out "When Death Calls" by Black Sabbath. Not only does it feature the brilliant Tony Martin on vocals, but the Doc has a solo that could put a hole in the wall. (Considering your prejudice against the 90s music, I"m here to tell you, you missed out on a LOT.) Great stuff! Love you guys! RIP Cozy
That's "Sir/Doc" 😄 You forgot the death of his father during this time also. Jealous you got to see him during that era! Love me some Sir/Doc! Especially when he rocks out.
Cozy was indeed a great drummer but let's talk about Brian's underrated vocals. During this time, Freddie had just died and he was suddenly on his own. So he decided to challenge himself as a singer with this song. The song had more overdubs than "Bohemian Rhapsody" yet he did all harmonies in "Resurrection". He tried so hard to hit those difficult high notes that his throat bled. But he didn't let it stop him from recording a great song, he didn't give up. He plays and sings with a lot of emotion in this song, as he is singing in an angry tone of voice because this was during a dark time in his life. And when I got into him, I too was in that same dark place he was. Thank God he was able to help me find the light, even though it's always a very long road ahead
If you got this one here (which I didn't expect 😁) I should ask for another Brian one which is called "Cyborg". Be aware that song is crazy 😁Ah dang, I already requested Procession/Father to Son... so nevermind 😇
this is also a 'single edit' which is heavely edited from the album version, and is very strange to hear it in this way when you are acostumbrated to the album version
Could you please react to “A Winters Tale” by Queen…..it is kind of a Christmas type song . Thanks for your reaction. I like this song. It's just that so much of Brian's work in this time reminds me of theme music for the Doctor Who tv show. edit: I wrote my comment before your ending & I see Mrs agrees with me - Doctor Who for the win!
Wow! Okay, first time hearing about this song, definitely one of Brian May's solo songs. It is so close to the 80s vibe; I would agree with you on that Coach. I will have to watch this one over and over, just to understand where Brian is coming from at that time. Yes, Brian sounded great and the drummer Cozy Powell, too now that I know his name! Looking forward to more! Peace. ☮
Brian may well have written this song in the 80s. Remember they were all off doing their own thing until they found out Freddie was sick and they all came back together for him.
Coach and Mrs Coach thnx for the Resurrection from 1992 😮 by Brian. It was originally Cozy Powell's track but he offered it to Brian for his first solo album "Back To The Light". Brian added a guitar and lyrics. Cozy was an exceptional drummer (Jeff Beck's group, Rainbow, White snake, Black Sabbath) who was touring with Brian in 1992 and 1993 as a member of Brian May Band and was also playing on Brian's second album Another World. Sadly he was killed in a car accident in April 1998.😢
All music generally from any period is fine. There was a lot of tripe in the 80s, though. The song is from the 80s. It's from 1989 plus 3 😅😅. Cozy was in Rainbow in the 70s with Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore. He was in ELP for one album called Emerson, Lake, and Powel as Carl Palmer was still in the band Asia. He was also in The Michael Schenker Group, Black Sabbath, and Whitesnake in the 90s. A sad loss.
This is why you and all reactors should 'listen' to music and not watch videos. Music is for the ears not the eyes. Videos influence what people think of songs.
And yet, the artists themselves create the videos and want them to be watched. We have said on many video reactions that music videos detract from the listening experience in most cases, we don't disagree with you there. But the artists create this art and want it to be viewed.
Brian was depressed at this time. Freddie died the year before, his father died and his marriage was breaking up. Sounds like he was trying to resurrect his life. The drummer, Cozy Powell was amazing however he died in an accident just a few years later. Song was good but sounded angry. Poor Brian
The finger tapping on the guitar Brian picked up from another pretty good guitarist by the name of Edward Van Halen who learned it from a ukelele plsyer.
It's the other way around. Brian used tapping on some of Queen's songs (It's Late, ...) way before EVH. He "nicked" the technique from a 🎸 player he heard in a club in Texas. But Edvard took it to another level.
@@CoachCastTVHe was very good. Did you ever see him do the finger tapping technique? Brian went to Eddie's hotel room on night to do a little drinking and guitar work. Brian told himself, "I can do this." Brian woke up on the bathroom floor all alone.
I have to be honest: I respect Brian and Roger for trying a solo career, but I really miss the Queen input in their songs. It's like there is something lacking...

And yet, the artists themselves create the videos and want them to be watched. We have said on many video reactions that music videos detract from the listening experience in most cases, we don't disagree with you there. But the artists create this art and want it to be viewed.

Coach will have to out this on his 80s playlist and just pretend it was released then.
Try Roger Taylors "Foreign Sand" ft Yoshiki
Brian was depressed at this time. Freddie died the year before, his father died and his marriage was breaking up. Sounds like he was trying to resurrect his life. The drummer, Cozy Powell was amazing however he died in an accident just a few years later. Song was good but sounded angry. Poor Brian
The finger tapping on the guitar Brian picked up from another pretty good guitarist by the name of Edward Van Halen who learned it from a ukelele plsyer.
EVH is Coach's favorite guitarist.
@@iris67siJust going by what Brian said.
@@chicochi3 LOL...yeah, we also have a reaction to EVH "Eruption" live for Mrs. Coach to check out some of his stuff. Coach had seen it, obviously.
I have to be honest: I respect Brian and Roger for trying a solo career, but I really miss the Queen input in their songs. It's like there is something lacking...
... But I gave it a thumbs up for your reaction, anyway 🙂
Thank you. It's like the whole is greater than the sum of the parts when it comes to Queen and their chemistry together.
90s video
Awful - couldn't wait for it to end - the mix is so harsh and tinny !
