Excellent video Dave, with so many helpful & practical tips. Your comment of cutting R or L in between waves after take-off so helpful to build speed. Before watching your video, I would occasionally back-stall on the bump in front of me right after getting on to foil from the downhill, then not having enough speed trying to go uphill on bump in front.
Very well said Dave. 👏 what a good video. For me 27km is my longest DW run so far. Used the max with power battery and without it I wouldn't even be able to do a 1 km run. Can't paddle up a sup and don't want to frankly. I prone DW a 5.0 38L board and have a blast all the way. Fun, that's all I want.
FD has helped me soo much to learn the matrix of the ocean. I’m still working on the paddle up, so it’s nice to have one run of suffering and one actually on foil having fun but still contributing to the learning process. But when the conditions are really good I’ll opt for two runs just FD. 😅 just having to much fun !
I'm in this process using the sport battery. First runs were like 1.5 miles, now I'm covering 3.5 miles. It's so much damn fun and no sadness/grimacing like my buddies learning with a paddle. I have an 18 month old son and a 9-5 job so there's no way I could dedicate the time for SUP (and I don't really want a big board and paddle).
Thanks for the video. I noticed that you used the KT dragonfly with the foil drive. Did you have any issues with signal transmission through the rubber friction pad? and if so, how did you overcome it.
Nice one bro. Yea I think in general anyone foil-driving offshore needs to be on a board they can paddle up and have a paddle as well… Like Josh falling of near an bait ball of Sydney on a prone board 😅 … I have fished those 50-80m deep lines of coast and lots of sharks travel thru haha I think don’t be prepared by being willing to paddle a prone board 2km back to shore thru sharks waters … be prepared by having the ability to paddle up with out the foil drive 🤙
For me the whole point of foildriving is that I can run a short prone board. Paddling up a foildrive set up even with a paddle is extremely hard and very limited to huge foils like the 1401 and 1180 and even then it’s not easy. Lots of people are DWding on prone boards up to 2km out to sea on the regular. That’s why I say - stay within your limits. I’ve done prone runs on my prone set up (no FD) out to 2km wide. And if I fell - well it’s a long paddle. It’s about staying within your accepted limits. Everyone’s are different and understandably mine might be on the more extreme end then your average punter. But definitely I don’t think FD on the SUP with a paddle is the goal for a lot of people. For most people they’ll be on a prone board.
Hi Dave, thanks for the video. Could you share more on the size and type of foil please? I'm learning sup dw without any background of sup or paddling. What a long and tough journey. James teaching me the paddle technique and I am working my baby steps on the Axis 1300. I got a FD that I want to use for training purposes but don't know what foil to use as the 1300 is maybe too big. What would be your suggestions. I weigh 67kg. Thanks.

What a time to be alive hey! So sick
Do you use the 15cm or 20cm and have the option to push it up up higher when you start using power less often?
Another great video, Dave, informative as all hell and a pleasure to watch. 👍👍👍😊😊😊
Another great and informative video Dave, I am really looking forward to starting my DW journey.
This is very useful content. Look forward to getting a foil drive one and one of those amos shapes they look amazing
I thoroughly enjoy the information conveyed. Concise and succinct. Good job Mr West.
An important, helpful video, it has an excellent explanation of the technique, and you should add more explanations like this

I'm in almost exactly the same boat give or take a kilo.
Thanks Dave, when you say 12cm mast height, where exactly are you messing from?
I be don’t measure things :) haha. It’s a custom 12cm motor cable. As a team rider we get to request special sizes :)
@@davewestfoils I want a shorter cable than the 15cm as well!! :)
@@aaronconcarne just ask them I’m sure they’d consider it.
@@aaronconcarnejust lower the pod and wrap the extra wire in the tape.
awesome advice mate
