@@zqott7954 In the Ghost I have an i7 8700, air cooled w/ Noctua NH-L12 and a MSi 1060 GX, two M.2 NVME, the SF450W psu from corsair - all left as-is. Born as a travel build so water was no option.
The case sits too low...raising it would improve the temps by couple of degrees, I bet. But yeah, the negative pressure is underrated or even seen as something...negative (heh), but it gives excellent results in some cases, especially small ones (and even in some "regular" ones like NZXT H500)...
Nice build! I wonder in a build with 2 L-TopHats (ie one would be a bottom-hat actually), so that both CPU & GPU are water-cooled so that each Hat would have a 240 radiator & 2x120 fans, which would be better: A) both hats' fans blow UP-wards (assuming to work in synergy with air convection) - ie bottom fans would blow IN the case; B) both hats' fans blow OUT-wards (creating negative pressure inside the case so that it sucks air from the sides, instead of the bottom) - ie bottom fans would blow DOWN in the case NOTE: consider that in such build the rest of motherboard components would need ventilation, so there're 3 basic cases there I think: 1) in the above case A, there should be general upward air flow thru the case assuming it would be enough to cool down MoBo - would it? 2) in the above case B, the case would suck air from the sides, because of the negative air-pressure, so would that be enough to cool down MoBo? 3) if both above cases are not good enough perhaps sticking couple of small & low-profile fans (like for example NF-A4x10 fans) to the side of the case directly over the hottest areas of the MoBo? I guess the last case would work better with the case B ie working in synergy with the negative flow?
Great video as always. Quality is top notch. This was exactly what I was looking for, I am doing the medium tophat with 2 120s, if it ever shows up from my order in October...
It's been a while since I last watched something this satisfying in a tech channel. I guess i'm small form factor enthousiast, and you sir are doing small ff better than anyone out there :)
It’s amazing how much engineering must go into these cases cramming as much support for components into such a small space, that is solely why I prefer SFF over standard ATX.
My 1080 in the NCase runs at 42° under load... But with an external MoRa tucked under my desk :D Nice video though my man! You were the one to bring me to the Ncase and I can't be happier!
I recently completed a custom loop in my Ghost S1 and would love to see you do one too. Interesting video with negative pressure, I always felt the biggest thing missing from the Dan A4-SFX was top exhaust fans.
A shame that Loque as a company is such a mess. They currently have all their orders on backorder and don't even answer business related e-mails anymore.
It's a shit company created by a small group of young adults that created this side project called "Louqe", and then they soon figured out that they actually had to put some effort into the project and then it went downhill from there.
Would love to see a full custom loop in the M1, I think it has the most potential of the 2 because of the space to side mount a 240mm rad + slim 240mm at the bottom. The challenge is the pump and res ofcourse.
@OptimumTech, I'm currently building my S1 batch 4 and was able to get a full sized 120mm corsair ML series fan below the PSU running in exhaust mode. Using a corsair platinum PSU with the premium cables, all it took was some clever cable management but I definitely have somewhere between .05cm and 1 cm clearance with the fan spinning unimpeded. Just a note for those looking at this build. I will running the 3900x with a noctua L12 (discontinued version) and a 2070 super FE. I'm hoping thermals with this slightly less powerful card will be good with just the 1 fan. Otherwise I'll be getting that medium top hat.
Maybe you can mod the case. Cut open the front cover and add one more intake fan for fresh cool air, you can also add rise up the case a bit so the intake bottom fan can pull cooler air from the bottom. Also one last thing, maybe consider HDPlex PSU? Just for consideration, I haven't though about the power requirement though
I agree that the Ghost S1 looks nice in silver. It's a shame that the company is a mess. I see so many complaints about Louqe. The nCase M1 offers support for up to two 240mm radiators while the Ghost S1 would have to become significantly taller with two "top hats" to accommodate that (if you could even get them with Louqe being as it is) so I would personally go with the nCase M1, but of course I'm more biased toward the M1 because I own one and it remains my favorite. I can get good cooling into it and it's not as cramped to work with as some other SFF cases. The size of the M1 is the "sweet spot" IMO. You may personally favor doing the watercooling build in the Ghost S1 since you've had the nCase M1 so much longer thus the Ghost S1 is newer / more interesting. If you have the parts just do whatever you want to do, Ali. If I had the resources to do so I'd be trying all sorts of SFF builds as well. But presently, I'm attempting to finish the open loop for my full ATX build in the Lian Li O11 Dynamic. The only upgrade for my SFF build lately was getting a smaller mechanical keyboard, the EC Plum 84 Pro.
Really enjoying these vids! I want to do a small gaming build but do not have the budget of the corsair one! These seem like my next best option! Thanks!!
"Yes, I know heat rises, but this is only relevant in a passive way" THANK YOU. People really don't understand this enough. How can the hot air rise when there is several fans shifting the direction of the air? It makes no sense. Exhaust the air out in the most effective and efficient way possible, that isn't always the top or the rear depending on the case. In an ATX case, most effective method is 2-3 fans at the front, one on the side, one on the bottom, one on the rear. Yes, you read that right. A side fan. Bit Tech proved this in this investigation here - bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/the-big-cooling-investigation/1/ Want the best cooling? Get rid of your yucky side windows. (I know my comment doesn't apply to this video. Most people run ATX cases and really fuck up their cooling)
True. Also one fan makes a world of difference, two, three, four fans...not so much, the diminishing returns are gigantic. As long as you are efficiently bringing in air that did not pass any components, and exhausting air that has passed them, you are almost at the top of your air cooling potential if all other factors are the same (same fan model, same heatsink model, etc). Example: I have a Rainjitek Ophion, which has almost the same fan layout as the Ghost - bottom space for a slim 120mm fan below cpu/gpu, top space for two 120x25mm fans. I wouldn't dare run it fanless like Gamers Nexus did, but one fan on top of the CPU and GPU as exhaust gives me great thermals. Two fans is hard to see the difference, maybe 1 degree less? I notice the air the second fan blows is mostly cold. I ran without that fan for some days and everything was fine, but I keep it there because it sits on top of my PSU, which has a semi passive mode so the fan never turns on, so I guess a bit of the PSU heat is exhausted. With the third bottom fan added (a noctua 12x15)...no difference at all. GPU is perhaps 1 degree colder. I also swapped the top 25mm fans for slim 13mm fans (these exist, Rainjitek Aelus), no change in thermals. These fans have less "air moving potential" than 25mm fans, but the take away here is that the case is tiny, 25cm/10inch in height, which means that from the GPU/CPU to the outside of the case there is like 5inches to be travelled by the hot air. Would a 3000rpm industrial Noctua move the air out faster? Yes. Would it be a big difference in the grand scheme of things? Probably not
There is nothing better than milled aluminium. I would wear milled aluminium if I could. (Edit: I changed brushed aluminium to milled aluminium, because I guess that's more appropriate.)
Nice. I did a 1080 8600k in a sugo sg13. Fit a h60i with a second fan too. With noctuas the cpu oc at 4ghz never tops 60. The gpu +125mhz hits 73 with demciflex filter on the intake side. 65 without. Ambients 20.
I'd like to see it with a 2080ti blower style. I wonder if the few blower style 2080ti's can even handle the 2080ti though, let alone in a cramped space.
Since we all know it was not going to work (looking at N1 results) in this small case, you should have done some modifications for science! I would have put the GPU up top where the fans are in a custom 'top hat' that is fully perforated. That way its always shooting heat outside the case, and everything below is isolated. ggez
This build is sick! Man, I've really gotta stop watching content on the Ghost, i love it so much, but i'll just never shell out the asking price for it..
nice vid man! cool! i have a Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L, and one damn fan made an almost 10C difference in CPU temps. Even though this case is almost all hols, there was a big heat accumulation right above the CPU (you could feel it if you put your hand over that area) and with one (more) fan in the back pulling out the hot air, CPU dropped almost 10C. Before this i had only 2 frontal fans (120mm Noctua). GPU still sits at 70C though, now and then...70C constant...maybe it's because it's a mini gtx 1060.
An AIO bracket with a 240 mil rad and the top hat config might be worth looking into. I don't know if the Kraken series is compatible but I also think Alphacool makes one.
Thats weird, I guess my dislike of reference cards has meaning. I have the Gigabyte Windforce 2080Ti overclocked to almost 2000mhz and i’m at 77c* with no extra fans.. Edit* Same case btw. Also have 8700k oc to 5ghz at 66c. Case is good :)
The perforated case panels have round holes with a bit of spacing, so something like 30-40% airflow. Wonder why the manufacturer - and other manufacturers, for that matter - with such confined spaces do not opt for honeycomb/mesh patterns, which can allow as much as 60% airflow.
All the very best cases aren't even for sale right now. My three favorite premium mini-itx cases (all $250+) aren't for sale. I'm stuck with an big, ugly box instead of something lovely to look at. The Lazer LZ7 is the only thing that comes close and by the time you're done making it look good, it's over $300. Which is fine, I guess, things cost what someone will pay for it, but it's a headache getting it delivered.
I recently purchased one with two large top hats and had no problems with shipping or missing parts. I’m very happy with Louqe and their product. They were very honest and open about their delivery dates and even me getting my money back if certain delivery/shipping related production dates weren’t met.
The ventilation hole pattern that Ghost uses is not optimal. The straight line holes are more restrictive than can be achieved by cross pattern holes which reduces the amount of aluminum allowing for more holes/air. Strange that they don't cut them this way.👀
Experiment with external brick using 12v DC DC internal ? J-hack distro 400. For lower power builds for now and G-unique archdemon for high power 12 v builds.
Could you consider trying this exact same airflow set up question except using the 15 mm slim knock to her fans on the top? And using the smaller top hat as well?
I think you should still do the custom loop on the Ncase M1 because the Ghost s1 with the big top hat is pretty ugly and pointless because it loses its purpose of being really small. On the other hand the Ncase is already "big" so i think is a better option overall from water cooling.
Sorry, I am kind of confused by what you meant with ”the bottom fan running in exhaust isn’t going to work you less you can find a fan grill to fit in that tiny square”. Did you meant that it might be easy for cable to be caught in the bottom fan if it's running in exhaust? Thanks!
@Optimum Tech do you think that a "tophat exhaust + bottom tophat exhaust" setup would be an even better cooling solution than your "Bottom Exhaust Slim + Tophat Exhaust" setup ?
They should have used long threaded nuts (like motherboard stand offs) to mount the top hats so you could secure the top lid once installed other than just the magnets. Kind of the only let down to me on this case.
Medium bottom extension with 120mm cpu aio and 2 , 25mm fans blowing in. Delidded direct die conductonaut 9900k and triple fan 2080ti temps in mid 70's. Both max oc. Not enough? Small tophat with 2 slim fans blowing out at the top what will reduce temp with 5 degr c. All fans set to low noise, max 1500rpm . 16k 3dmark time spy.
I ordered a medium tophat on May 1, it still hasn't shipped. I have the slim Noctua fans that I was intending to install in my case once the tophat arrived. You pretty much copied the setup I would have been using if I had the tophat by now. Good job, I see great minds think alike.
I recently got an email from Louqe telling me I would be receiving a refund for the purchase of a medium tophat. Looks like Louqe maybe going the way of the dodo.
SFF Custom loop incoming after Computex.
Ghost S1 or Ncase M1 guys?
I'm looking for that Ncase M1.
Ghost S1 for sure

I wonder in a build with 2 L-TopHats (ie one would be a bottom-hat actually), so that both CPU & GPU are water-cooled so that each Hat would have a 240 radiator & 2x120 fans, which would be better:
A) both hats' fans blow UP-wards (assuming to work in synergy with air convection) - ie bottom fans would blow IN the case;
B) both hats' fans blow OUT-wards (creating negative pressure inside the case so that it sucks air from the sides, instead of the bottom) - ie bottom fans would blow DOWN in the case
NOTE: consider that in such build the rest of motherboard components would need ventilation, so there're 3 basic cases there I think:
1) in the above case A, there should be general upward air flow thru the case assuming it would be enough to cool down MoBo - would it?
2) in the above case B, the case would suck air from the sides, because of the negative air-pressure, so would that be enough to cool down MoBo?
3) if both above cases are not good enough perhaps sticking couple of small & low-profile fans (like for example NF-A4x10 fans) to the side of the case directly over the hottest areas of the MoBo? I guess the last case would work better with the case B ie working in synergy with the negative flow?

Only if you’re a TH-cam reviewer
I recently purchased one with two large top hats and had no problems with shipping or missing parts. I’m very happy with Louqe and their product. They were very honest and open about their delivery dates and even me getting my money back if certain delivery/shipping related production dates weren’t met.
Very nice build.
My only problem with negative pressure is that the small openings of the case get stuck with dust over time...
Would love to see a comparison (and review) of the Nouvolo Steck.
Really good channel man. Hello from France :)
Sorry, I am kind of confused by what you meant with ”the bottom fan running in exhaust isn’t going to work you less you can find a fan grill to fit in that tiny square”. Did you meant that it might be easy for cable to be caught in the bottom fan if it's running in exhaust? Thanks!
I like this case but i hope theres a 3 slot version without compromising the cpu cooler height
@Optimum Tech do you think that a "tophat exhaust + bottom tophat exhaust" setup would be an even better cooling solution than your "Bottom Exhaust Slim + Tophat Exhaust" setup ?
didn't know there was a third batch. anyway, jizztastic vid.
I finally got the medium tophat from Amazon.
Great Video´s! Would you recommend the same setup if you have a Kraken x52 on the top?
if only it wouldn't be 270€+ ._.
I'd prefer to see the water cooling inside the ghost S1
Hi Ali, hope you twitch stream some more!
I'll be on tomorrow! 😁
