Way cool! Born and raised in Jacksonville! Both my grandparents are buried at the cemetery you went to (Jacksonville Memory Gardens). When my dad was a kid he said some of the band members would jam outside of his childhood home while they hung out with his older sisters. The house was on Myra Street in Jacksonville.
Both my parents , my little sister, grandmother are buried at that cemetery . I will be too someday. Wish you had went to the Jug ...That is mentioned in the Song Give me 3 steps which was based off a true event. it was not far from The cemetery. I was 14 when they hit the big time and they instantly became our local heroes, I grew up in the same neighborhood as most of them. Went to Robert E. Lee H.S......So proud of what they accomplished.
I'm 72 years old and been listening to Skynyrd since their first album and saw them in concert 4 times before the crash and they will always be my favorite group!!! It's such a shame they had idiots for pilots cause they had so many more hits in them that we lost out on.....

Great video Scott!! RIP!! Gone too soon!! A great band for real!! Thanks for showing us there final resting place!! Your videos are so respectful and very well done my friend!! Much love my friend!! 🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙♥️♥️♥️🌺🌺✌️✌️✌️😢😢😢😢
I grew up in Riverside area at Jacksonville, attended Robert E Lee and knew Leonard Skinner. My cousin lived down from the Van Zant's, saw 38 Special in early days in Jax as well. Know that Johnny is now around Black Creek area on south Westside, this is the best side of Jax. Great times, great food and lots of memories. Thanks for sharing the video.

I truly love your heart for having the thought to do a video.I grew up in NJ ,however at that time, we were all southerners in spirit with Lynrd Skynrd. Thanks so much !
Loved the band still do. Thanks Scott. Always love the videos . I never got to see the original band but have seen them twice with Johnny. Safe travels and as always God bless.
Been listening to LS for 45 years. Hard to believe it's been that long. Every bar I walked in back in the 70s and 80s had Free Bird playing. It was our anthem. Everybody in the bar knew that song word for word. Great times! Great memories. There music will live on Forever!
Scott. Nice job. I cannot wait to show this to my friends. They were there and helped me to help you find the location of the dock and Hell House. It is SO wonderful how you went to the graves of Cassie and Steve Gaines, the original grave of Ronnie and of course Leonard Skinner and Leon Wilkinson. Hope you are well. Thanks for the shout-out too. Hope to see you soon!
My friends from Windsor Ontario Canada flew their plane in for EAA air show for the week and I had them check out your channel and now they're going to subscribe to it when they get back to Canada. Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of my mom's favorite band and so we played it at her funeral .
Love Skynyrd this was awesome thanx for doing this. Saw the farewell tour last year in Phoenix although there's only Gary Rossington in the the band , they still rock and Ronnies brother does a fantastic job on vocals Thanx again!

This was great! I plan to visit Jax within a year. I’ve been wanting to go there for the longest time. I shared this video in a Skynyrd FB group I belong to. Members will love it. Thank you and great job.
Good job sir, I love Skynryd, Ronnie's life was cut way to short, we can only imagine what could have been. You did a wonderful job of information, I've studied this history for quite some time, all info is correct. Thank you for your respect.
I'm a HUGE fan! So happy your coverage was right on the money! Just like his brothers told. Great video! I love a story told how Ronnie would sit on the dock with his dog as he fished and if a gator tried to get his dog he'd smack it on the nose with a club her carried and just continue fishing. Haha! RIP Ronnie and the rest!
The tubing was water lines and from some research, that is where the house stood. The slab is most likely frown over. Also,The country world got a taste when Ronnie and Donnie,in 2005 crossed over into country music and where sucessful there. Keep up exploring,Scott. Catch you next time you are in Orlando area
One of my older brothers is a huge L S fan and has been since they started , his favorite song is Freebird and so is mine . He got me hooked on L S at a very young age and I’m still a fan . Thank You Scott for sharing , Loved this Vlog & All your Vlogs . Safe travels Scott and Loves to Shady ♥️😘💋🌹
Apparently some wealthy NasCar guy bought the Hellhouse concrete slab, he thinks there is special energy stored in it, and he had it shipped off somewhere. Thanks for the video.
I googled and found this article and a image of inside the Hell House of the band practicing... Thanks for the lead. : edking.proboards.com/thread/23/house
The first video of your's that I watched was the one about Gram Parsons. A few weeks later (last weekend) I discovered this video while searching through Skynyrd stuff because of it being the 42nd anniversary of the plane crash. Scott, you are so reverent and respectful of these things, you go EXACTLY to the very places that any of us would want to go to, and you seek and pass along the info that all of us would want to know. Carry on my brother, you are awesome!
Myself,I was 21 when rvz died. Worked for a traveling carnival,Amusements of America.October 77 was a busy month out there.I was so crushed by the news of the crash,I just couldn't work.Sat in my truck and cried night after night.quit my job, went home and got my shit together.and couldn't do anything.I got over that the start of 78.went back out on the road, and made mad money at another carnival working the games.that band was so good. They are second to no one. They made me cry,and quit my job. I laugh today thinking back on those days. Rock on Ronnie.
too bad you didnt come anyway cos on THAT side of town the hurricane was a non event....at the beach , where i live, it wasnt even bad....not really... I was ready to fly out and saw concert was cancelled just before I left for airport so didnt want to chance it, they were evacuating where I was staying also so seemed pointless. Didn't want to be stuck in a random airport alone 😣 Gutted about missing Frampton though!
Great Video!! And i to grew up with my parents listening to Skynyrd! I was Born Aug 29 1977..So there great music always played in my house. Its so sad what happened that Oct 1977. Thanks for sharing 👊😎
I attended Robert E Lee from 1975-78. Also worked at Riverside Park Cemetery from 1984- 85. Met Artamos Pyle ( then with the Greg Burell Band) at the old Jax Beach bar " Iggy Guanans".
Good video. I was born and raised in Jacksonville and remember the day of the plane crash. Jacksonville was a much smaller town back then. My older brother knew the Van Zants and told me they would come over to our house to hang out but I was too young to remember.
Scott. I lived in jax from 10yrs to 15yrs. I actually got to go see Lynard Skynard for my 15th Birthday May 1st 1976 At Jacksonville Colisium I spelled that wrong. Anyhow I still have ticket stub. 5 Dollars is I paid for my ticket. My heart was broken when that terrible news came over the radio on my way to school. I was in shocked. To be honest with you I have never really listen to Lynard Skynard the 2bd band maybe its me. But Lynard Skynard can never ever be replaced by anybody Thank You for sharing so many precious memories of my life youre videos are wonderful. And so is Down Memory with Steve. Thank You I would never of ran into Scott. If Scott would never of did the video wirh you in California PEACE OUT!!!!!
Hey Scott! I just found your channel the other day & I'm really enjoying it. You're so relatable, and after watching you with the kitty's, I can tell how tender your heart is. Sending you lots of great luck for your future videos🤟💞
Nicely done - great research and respectful tribute to one of the most influential musical groups in American rock history. Keep up the great work! I'm hooked!
Excellent Video! Tuesday's Gone also my Favorite tune and The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. Super informative. Loved all your info and footage. Great Tribute To The Greatest of all Southern Rock. I actually met one of the plane crash survivors and I found a note from my high school boyfriend who wrote about hearing the plane went down. Sad sad day. Thank you so much for the time and work you put into this. Hugs N
When you were standing near the tube coming out of the ground at the Hell House location, you could see remnants of the driveway, as well as he tree that stood in front of the house. Excellent video. Steve and Cassie lived just down the road from me in Miami, OK. Awesome people.
You were just up the road from RVZ park on Henley Road which runs off Russell rd. Ronnies adult home was also nearby on Brickyard road off CR 220 on Doctors Lake.
I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd...
Great tribute to Lynard Skynard,Thank God they came to Kansas City at The Sprint Center last November 4th and Yes Tuesday's Gone is The best song ever written,Kick ass tribute video buddy, great Thank you,Train Roll On!!!!
My Brother is friends with the man that owns the property in Mississippi where the Freebird crashed. He went to visit him last year and brought me back a piece of the carpet from the plane! Really cool! A lot of the plane was buried on site.
We never thought nothing of how HOT it was back in those days in jax we where all young they where older but still as a kid none of us had Air Conditioning we stay under shade tress and played in the water hose and our homes had fans we where sticky but you took a cool bath and slept with the fan. Air Conditioner I'm very grateful for thou as I'm older now Florida doesn't have the humidity that up north does and when it does get like that JUMP IN THE OCEAN!!!!!!Peace Out!!!!!
I grew up in NY and believe it or not they were extremely popular there. I had tickets to see them in November of that yr. at Madison Square Garden in NYC, in less than two weeks from that fateful day. I'm now 63 and still have those tickets! They are NOT for sale.
Okay...I lost my comment I think. I really love Skynyrd. Always have! Tuesday's Gone is awesome but if I had to pick it would be Simple Man. They are all my fav's really. I love that your generation still loves and keeps their music going. Every LS song is a southern anthem, I love that about them. Thank you as always for taking me with you on this trip and not even charging me for gas!!! You are the best! Much Love, Sir Scott. xox
Ronnie’s grave has since moved. Went there in February and it is no longer located where it is in this video. I got told the new location and we went and visited it, but there were no grave markers at that time.
Just watched your Skynyrd video today, I didn't read through all the comments. So this may have been touched on already, but the band "Detroit" featuring Mitch Ryder, once had Steve Gains as a member. After Ryder left the band, Rusty Day took over on vocals. And Steve Gains took o over on Guitar 🎸. There's a couple of fair live recordings out there, where you hear his Guitar work and his distinct vocals. Even a couple of Steve Gains penned songwriting credits.
Wish I would have known about your visit. I could have had Gene Odom (Skynyrd's Security Manager, Ronnie's best friend, and plane crash survivor) drive you around personally! Let me know if you come back. I can also get you to the actual crash site in Mississippi!
Sweet documentary and footage ! Allen Collins along with his wife and Jimmy VanZant are at the same cemetary Legend has it they rehearsed in a similar structure to Hell House off Mandarin rd. "Oak tree you're in my way" was from Gary wrecking a Ford Torino in the same area. And Allen Collins crashed a car off Plummer Grant rd in Mandarin killing his girl and paralysing himself Anybody that are lifelong fans of the band need to look up Gene Odom head of security Keep it in the wind
I watched there tribute band with some of the original people and Ronnies brother in 99' with zztop I was 14. I have always loved them. Awesome video, and I love the 80s type vibe intro 👊 Cheers and much love 🙏💜🎶🎸
I'm really glad to see this house. I love that band. Such a tragic story how they died. I saw a video of the memorial it was beautiful.. It's about 400 yards away from the crash site if I remember correctly. It's in the woods peace and love🙏❤
Been to hell house many a time, back in the day, the original dock is underneath that dock, if you lean over and look up under you can still see it. RVZ used to sit down there and write lyrics while the boys jammed up in the house. It was of course loud and you could hear it from the hi-way. You were just about right as to where the cabin was at.....had you walked a couple hundred yards on down Peters creek you would come upon the railroad trestle where the Nuthin Fancy album photos were taken. And the photo of Billy Powell flipping off the photographer was taken as they walked back to the house from the railroad trestle.
@Mike Reynolds If they HAD put in an air conditioner, at Hell House, it might’ve got stolen, right ? OR with 3 guitars, bass, and keyboard amps and a P.A, they’d of blown the fuse while trying to run an air conditioner ??
John Doe John Doe they had equipment stolen and then required somebody to stay there overnight. Artimus didn’t like staying out there alone, said it was spooky cause it was on the backside of a huge cow pasture right next to Peters Creek a long way from anyone. He didn’t like those swamp noises at night.
Hey scott, you should come back to Jacksonville and do a follow up on this.there is a lot more you missed like that dock for instance.that is not the dock Ronnie fished on the one he fished on is under it and still there and if you stand on it and look down to the left you can see the train truss they stood on for one of there album covers.and you are right about the gators they are all over the place right there.i have been to there house and in it.we found stuff in the attic including a checkbook from lacy van zant there dad which o still have today.plus Johnny still lives here and at the old house Johnny lived out back in a trailer you missed that and also there is the baseball field where they formed the band that you missed.hit me up if you ever wanna know these locations for a future visit.
infatuated with this band, plane crashed year i graduated high school in Alabama..lost Elvis too. Top of United States bands ever, seen em 5 times....great times and sad times...
My mom actually went to Robert E. Lee High School with the real Leonard Skinner. She also told me that the writer of "Heartbreak Hotel" Mae Boren Axton taught at Robert E. Lee for a while. And that Ms. Axton's son Hoyt wrote "Joy to the World" that the band Three Dog Night turned in to a hit. My uncle remembers going hunting with Hoyt when they were teenagers. What a small world, right.
I never got to see the original band..but I did get to see the surviving members with Johnny Van Zant at the Skynyrd Reunion Tour back in the 80s at the Starwood Amphitheatre in Nashville..sucks that Starwood is now gone..
Yes he did...but here is something even more important ...All of the graves are exactly the same as if they were still in the band today... Because the members were so closely knitted together it was actually by accident the graves were put in this faction. How about that...Even God loved them too... Shows how innocent they were at being righteous....
Hi Scott, This is a fantastic vlog today! I did enjoy watching this very much and even learned a few things. I had never known that someone had disturbed Ronnies grave...very disturbing to say the least. The black plastic tubing is the type used in water pipe and thats exactly what it is...so its left there from the well. That piece you had picked up had the water flow through it that they all drank...to live. That kind of blows my mind and you should pick it up and keep it! Thanks man for doing such a great job on this vlog, the band and these incredible muscians!
Great video. You were actually right around the corner from the Allman brother's house when you were at the high school. I lived in the Riverside area for years. Interesting little place down there.
Just watched this video. I'm born and raised here in Jacksonville Florida. I watch a lot of your videos. There's a lot of other places in you could check out here (if you're ever back here) Limp Bizkit originated here. There's a house in Riverside on Grand Avenue also known as "The Gangster House." Some of the most notorious members of the mafia are linked here. The house is said to have as underground tunnel from the house to the River. Used for an escape to the river. On a darker note, infamous serial killer, Ottis Toole grew up here and he and Henry Lee Lucas claimed a few victims here. A lot of history in Jacksonville.
Allen was buried in the same cemetery as the others. His resting place is not in the same area. His mother had his marker removed for privacy , so I have read. I found a picture of his resting place and walked the property comparing trees. Billy is there at rest also.
Allen is buried under a marker with his name on it as well as many things the family had made on to it like a bird, a bible, and a note from his mother. He is buried beside his wife he laid to rest 10 years before his passing unfortunately. Yes, he is buried in Riverside in a casket. It is across the street in another part from Ronnie, Leon, and Billy. The side where Gary has also bought a plot now.
You missed Allen Collins grave, he is buried about 150ft from Leonard Skinner. The slab hell house sat on was sold to a person back in the 80's after the hell house caught fire and burned to the ground. Also after the fire Johnny and Ronnie VanZant took a section of it before it was sold.

Love from France
This was awesome, I really enjoyed all the locations you shared. Well done!!
Wicked video man. very informative. My dad worships these guys, must show this to him. Cheers Scott 👍🏻
Everyone in Jacksonville has some kind of story about someone they know used to hang out with them...
Ain’t that the truth. I grew up on the westside hell I’ve heard a hundred stories or more from people.
Fantastic video learned so much..thanks Scott
I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS.
Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd...
I'm from Jacksonville, some of my family went to school with a lot of those folks. R.I.P. Fellas
Thanks Scott ✌️ really appreciate it.
Wow that’s crazy how they got their name !! Who would have thought 💭 😮
Tuesday’s Gone is one of the best songs ever!
Great tribute to Lynard Skynard,Thank God they came to Kansas City at The Sprint Center last November 4th and Yes Tuesday's Gone is The best song ever written,Kick ass tribute video buddy, great Thank you,Train Roll On!!!!
Thanks Patrick !
Patrick McCahon you didn’t spell their name right.
I live minutes from the Jacksonville Memorial Gardens! Huge fan of your channel 💯
My Brother is friends with the man that owns the property in Mississippi where the Freebird crashed. He went to visit him last year and brought me back a piece of the carpet from the plane! Really cool! A lot of the plane was buried on site.
Awesome video!...very well done and very respectful to those that have passed on...Thanks so much...Paul
Wow I really appreciate that comment Paul thank you !
They moved it to a nice quiet location next to a pond. I saw a video showing it.
Thanks for the heads up on this info, am not to far from Detroit and I guess that you learn something new everyday.
Wish I would have known about your visit. I could have had Gene Odom (Skynyrd's Security Manager, Ronnie's best friend, and plane crash survivor) drive you around personally! Let me know if you come back. I can also get you to the actual crash site in Mississippi!
Rockinthe904.... i visit jax about twice a year. I'd love a tour with Gene. I'll be down in dec. Love to get in contact with you and/or gene
Another 🐱. Love Lynyrd Skynyrd grew up on their music. At my dads funeral we played Tuesdays gone, and freebird. Simple Man I would sing to him.
Beautiful. And I love, love, love Tuesday’s Gone
Nice job Scott so proud of you
I watched there tribute band with some of the original people and Ronnies brother in 99' with zztop I was 14. I have always loved them. Awesome video, and I love the 80s type vibe intro 👊
Cheers and much love 🙏💜🎶🎸
Thank you for sharing. Much love.
I'm really glad to see this house. I love that band. Such a tragic story how they died. I saw a video of the memorial it was beautiful.. It's about 400 yards away from the crash site if I remember correctly. It's in the woods peace and love🙏❤
You forgot Billy Powell who is only 100 feet or so across the fountain from Ronnie & Leon.
I loved how they named the band after a tough teacher
Been to hell house many a time, back in the day, the original dock is underneath that dock, if you lean over and look up under you can still see it. RVZ used to sit down there and write lyrics while the boys jammed up in the house. It was of course loud and you could hear it from the hi-way. You were just about right as to where the cabin was at.....had you walked a couple hundred yards on down Peters creek you would come upon the railroad trestle where the Nuthin Fancy album photos were taken. And the photo of Billy Powell flipping off the photographer was taken as they walked back to the house from the railroad trestle.
@Mike Reynolds
If they HAD put in an air conditioner, at Hell House, it might’ve got stolen, right ?
Thank you for doing and sharing this. I appreciate it because all those places would be really expensive for me to travel to.
Go to the memorial site down in Mississippi. Really nice dedication for them.
infatuated with this band, plane crashed year i graduated high school in Alabama..lost Elvis too. Top of United States bands ever, seen em 5 times....great times and sad times...
Good job man i am always dreamed to see this place i love the band skynyrd always been my best band ever
Thank you so much I hope you get to go one day ✌🏽✌🏽
Lynyrd Skynyrd was an amazing bad. With great songs. May the ones who died in the plane crash rest in heaven with the other beautiful angels
I love this thank you so much Lynyrd Skynyrd represents America
So the Band immortalized their Coach ❤
Great video scott dont know much about the band only song I know really is sweet home Alabama but this video showed me alot thanks buddy 👍👌
Cool video, but you missed Allen Collins grave at the Riverside!
Noticed he forgot Allen also.
yeah how can you forget Allen.......
Yes he did...but here is something even more important ...All of the graves are exactly the same as if they were still in the band today... Because the members were so closely knitted together it was actually by accident the graves were put in this faction. How about that...Even God loved them too...
Shows how innocent they were at being righteous....
One small correction. The plane was not fixed prior to the final flight, but they thought it would make it to the next destination where it would be.
Another great podcast 🇮🇪💞
This is one of my favorites, much love always ❤
Another great tour! Love your channel
Great video. You were actually right around the corner from the Allman brother's house when you were at the high school. I lived in the Riverside area for years. Interesting little place down there.
Just watched this video. I'm born and raised here in Jacksonville Florida. I watch a lot of your videos.
There's a lot of other places in you could check out here (if you're ever back here)
Limp Bizkit originated here.
Thanks for the tour .
I enjoy your channel so much, thank you!
Thank YOU so much for watching my channel Nancy!
Allen was buried in the same cemetery as the others. His resting place is not in the same area. His mother had his marker removed for privacy , so I have read. I found a picture of his resting place and walked the property comparing trees. Billy is there at rest also.
Billy was cremated and thought he didn’t have a grave
100% correct
