I agree with your summary; 1/8 filter just takes the edge of the sharpness. The ¼ filter is too strong in most examples. However the lighting situation and the proximity of the subject to the lens also affects the result a lot. Thanks for the video, I will go ahead and get some 1/8 filters.
@@andikadimasprasetyo5758 yes, 1/8 doesn't do much with wide(er) lenses or is so low it can be done in post, as can be seen in video at 5:45, where only 1/4 actually does something useful
I use a 1/4 almost permanently on my Sigma 35 f1.4 and honestly it doesn't look excessive, sometimes I even forget about the mist effect that it's actually there. The magnitude depends a lot on the lighting and camera settings. Many of the shots in this video were shot in broad daylight, and I assume no lens hood was used. This would definitely make the 1/4 effect a bit strong.
I recently got the VND+1/4 and I just have to say that it is CRAZY strong. There are very, very few circumstances where I could ever see myself using the 1/4.
It's a pity some of your shots' focus was not synchronized therefore making the comparison impossible. But there were still plenty of very useful shots and comparisons therefore you earned my like. Thank you!
i have a trip to Faroe Island, Denmark and Sweden on March. I want to create an ethereal, dreamy, cinematic look for this travel videos and photos for this trip. I got the 1/4 Black Mist. Should i get the 1/8 too or am I good with the 1/4?
good test, would be helpful to show your iris and shutter on all the images, but very good test anyways. I was about to buy the 1/2+1 kit, but now will get that kit instead
@@MariuszGajdzik This is a very reasonable question. I recently bought a HOYA variable ND filter, and when I unpacked it I found that other filters cannot be screwed onto it, not even a lens cap can be put on it! I was very disappointed.
Hello bro, I bought myself a K&F Concept C Series 1/8 filter, now I’m thinking maybe I should have bought the same 1/8 but from the x series? is there any difference in the image?
Hi... can you please tell me how you use VND with diffusion filter?? is it stackable? Please tell me which VND you have used in this video. Thanks in advance.
Hey, I used the Freewell VNDs for some shots, I had to place the mist first and then the VND as they don’t have the thread in the front of the filter. Hope that helps
Thanks for great samples. Bought 1/8 filter for my Leica Q - a dream combination. Never take this filter off.
Hello! Soft filter you can recommend, I have the Leica Q2, I would like to try for portraiting! Lg

1/4 might be cool at night but for a normal day time shot it's just too strong, especially when there's a strong light
For me 1/4 is the sweet spot

You absolute LEGEND! Exactly THATS how you show the different filters. Superbly done!!!!! THANK YOU!
That he specifically thought to add full dailight shots with the sun shining towards the Lens is the most important thing...!! Thank you SO MUCH!

Thank you . I will buy the 1/4 for my 35 mm lens. The video did not specify the lens that he used. .
Such an amazing video!! Thank you for taking the time.

Thanks! Helped me make a decision. Def 1/8 as 1/4 can be too much and sometimes looks like the actual lens is dirty lol.
Haha, thanks for your comment. Yes, it is a bit stronger for sure 😊
Excellent video! thank you for displaying it under different conditions and environments, that made all the difference in my decision.
Thank you for being so thorough
Cinematic video choose 1/4.
Normal vlog choose 1/8.
Action video no filter. 😊
Excellent video right to the point I wish more videos were so simple.
Thank you. i guessed 1/8 suits me.

Great video. Really thorough
Glad it was helpful!
great comparison video
Best comparision
A small update: i have now k&f 1/8 and Polarpro Shorstache CPL/Mist 1/4. I still prefer k&f 90% of the time on Leica Q.
Thanks, really nice comparison.
Is there a reason why the 1/4 has a slight warmer color and the 1/8 has the slightly colder/blue tone?
Could be how it works with NDs I was using, not 100% sure
Great video comparison, exactly what I was looking for
The stength actually depends on the focal lenght, because the effect gets stronger with longer focal lenght.
1/4 gets the warm cast?

Thanks for the comparison. I think 1/8 is the right amount for me. Not too much but it's there.
Great to see it was useful. I’m mainly using this or the Moment Cinebloom 10%
exactly the video I needed
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video! I also think that 1/8 is a good choice
Glad you liked it! Why do you think so? 😊
What lens did you use in testing the 1/4 and 1/8 Filter ? Thank you 😊
Such a great comparison video, thank you!

I’m pretty sure all of this was shot on 1/50 and f2.8
@2:30 did the filter make the people dissapear? Thats awesome! 😎
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks🎉
Best test
How did you pair the nd and the black mist together 😮? Please lmk
The nd had to be on top of the mist so it was lots of filter screwing on and off 🤣
Hi thank you. Can you screw something else on the front of the filter. Does it have a filter thread on the front side?
Yes it does 😊
@@MariuszGajdzik thank you!

@@ivandj707 sadly many variable ND filters do that, I guess they assume this would be the last filter that will be put onto a lens 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you!!
Is it having Threads on both sides ? We can stack an ND on filters thread ?
Yes, there’s thread on both sides, I’ve mounted the NDs on the front for the outside shots 😊
@@MariuszGajdzik I've gone through K&F website, found New Back box and another one silvery kinda color , which is the one with u ?

Is it just me, all I see is the picture worsen when the filters are fitted.
Is this the effect you want?
is just you
It looses a bit of detail/sharpness/contrast but it adds creative style. It is worth it to set the mood in most cases
