Why though? It doesn't make any sense. This is supposed to be some singing 'duel', so really, any other song could have been used. Why this one? How is it iconic within the context of this show? What makes it stand out among all of the other licensed songs that the show used? Honestly, I just don't get it; this scene in particular. They seemed to be butting heads, so they're going to sing a duet in perfect harmony, and call it a duel?

It's a fine cover, but it's not the first time something like it was done, so trust me when I say it's not the composition that's making it iconic. If it's because it's an MJ song, then it's not iconic to this fandom, it's iconic for being an MJ song in general. STIUTK is a flash in the pan since we don't seem to have heard anything else come out after that with any level of success where as MJ was putting out hits before puberty, and continued to do so until the very end, decades later. He was the King of Pop. As for the chemistry, I'm not seeing it, but then, I tapped out in the first episode, telling everyone that this trainwreck was going to be off the air within 7 episodes.

I started smiling throughout the performance and by the end I've been hit by the fact that we've been robbed of Naya's talent and light and I almost cried. As silly as it sounds, Naya has been incredibly important for me, I hope she found peace wherever she is. Thanks for the reaction

I totally get it. Somehow, every time I hear one of her songs from glee on my playlist, I have to change it. I love her voice but I struggle when I remember how she passed and can't bring myself to listen to the songs o love
i'm so glad you agree that santana was better in this duet, it's a great one but she clearly is the star! also, naya looks slightly different compared to the don't rain on my parade performance you reacted to because she is younger here and also playing a highschooler so i think there is a lot less makeup, whereas in the other song she was supposed to have graduated and look a lot more mature! i like to think of it as baby face santana :)

Wait it’s interesting that you asked if she was pregnant....she mentions in her book that she gets pregnant on accident during the filming but eventually got an abortion. I’m not sure when in glee that is, but I just found it interesting that you said that. Her book is phenomenal by the way, highly recommend. I miss her 😭 May my queen Naya Rest In Peace 💕

Yes, exactly, she talked about bridesmaids dresses and her character only just taking off, both coincides with the burt and carol wedding in season 2; no other wedding on the show had Santana in the same dress as other people, even if not exactly a bridesmaid.
Well from what I could find (after filming) that happen either during the season this episode is from or before i just decided not to included as a fact bc it felt too personal even if she made it public on her book

GRANT IS SUCH A GOOD SINGER. And also those Cellos are a famous duo that were guests. They had an international concert and all.

She got all the high notes, but he hung in there with her. Those staccato notes are not easy. If you really want to see Grant singing, watch the flash musical episode. He has a solo at the end, “running home to you” where he’s proposing to Iris.

He's in a few eps of glee he was the villain of the rival club. Grant who plays Sebastian has musical theatre background & can tap dance. I loved him in glee (hated the character but that's the point he's a villain) a lot of people say they hate this cover. I actually like it.
Fun fact there's a musical episode of the flash you should check out some of the performances (some are original songs others are covers) funny thing is 3 people who were on glee are in the flash ep.

Honestly this song is one of my favorite duets and i'm glad you saw it.

The musical episode of The Flash was basically one big Glee reunion. The flash, Supergirl, Darren Criss (the episode bad guy), even Professor Stein was on an episode of Glee. And let's not forget (even though it's not glee related) that Iris's dad was Collins in RENT
And the two cellos inspired this performance. And that IS the two cellos performing for them
