    I also have a G9 and I wish you made a video showing best settings for photos too.
    For video I would love to see best settings programmed into dials for quick access to 24fps, 60fps and 180fps.
    Also what Auto and manual focus settings do you use, and any other buttons that have been modified for quick and easy use.

    Again, thank you for this. Very helpful and much needed. One query though... I'm under the impression that the 'cinematic look' is best set at 24 frames per second (23.976!) rather than thirty. Could you briefly explain why you choose 30? Cheers.

    • @FabledFew
      @FabledFew  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching!
      Well, it's a long explanation, but here it goes. For any sort of narrative work, I shoot 24fps. As 24fps has that "cinematic" motion blur. But for TH-cam, I shoot 30fps. The reason is, 30fps just looks better on any viewing device that isn't 24p judder-free, which is most devices, actually. So, your pans and tilts and camera movements seem less choppy to most people, who may not realize the choppiness is due to their screen juddering. Another reason is, it is easier to pull screengrabs for TH-cam from a 30fps file, due to less motion blur. And finally, I shoot all of my wedding work in 60fps, because you never know when you might want to slow down a scene, so it's just safer to shoot everything at 60fps.

    • @carlpasha
      @carlpasha 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FabledFew Many thanks for that. All clear now. As I intend to mainly do exterior nature filming (imagine drifting the length of a West of Ireland lake in a boat.) I'll probably use 24fps, tho' I'll experiment with the other rates and, of course, slow motion. Stay safe!

    Thanks, great video! In the Photo Style, I heared that it's good to turn shapness down because the picture looks more "natural than", when you do tun in down and when don't? Can u recommend some setting that don't need too much color grading in post? Or: what do you suggest for color grading in post with your settings?

    • @FabledFew
      @FabledFew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! Yes, I do turn the sharpness down by 2 or 3 usually. I feel like turning the sharpness down all the way turns the image into mush, and then applying sharpness over that doesn't look very pleasant. This is of course, if you're not shooting VLOG. You cannot change the sharpness value when shooting VLOG.

  • @hernano221
    @hernano221 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    👍If you talk about VIDEO configuration on G9... you should show a basic video ring right? a monitor ATOMOS or FEELWORLD plus a little matte box, not just an unnecessary double mic with inappropriate cables + camera flipped!!
    On 1:32 ...you say "I never touch that... artificially bringing up the shadows or bringing down the highlights is not something i want to do" ...that only reflects lack of knowledge even on editing process... the artificial part is the COLOR CORRECTION... the pure and original information comes from sensor so any adjust like curve settings for highlights and shadows make a detailing new original footage... there is NO "FALSE"... just read the USER MANUAL is very precise in that... 👋greattings from Mexico, ✌best vibes...

    • @FabledFew
      @FabledFew  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Set the camera to ISO 200. ISO 200 is the native ISO of the sensor and gives you the best dynamic range (less noise in the shadows), ISO 100 is "extended ISO". Also, apply about 20-25% of "Luminance" Noise Reduction in LR or ACR when raising the shadows.

      The MOV files are 10bit, and have a lot more color information if you're planning to color grade your footage, so in that case, yes the quality of the colors are noticeably better.

    This camera has a recording limit of just 30 minutes, which is very bad when I'm filming a long-term event, and it also heats up a lot. The camera is excellent for photography, but for working with videos of events and long interviews, it is very bad because of the recording time limit of 30 minutes, and the camera turns off every 10 or 30 minutes.

  • @EyeLensWeddingVideography
    @EyeLensWeddingVideography 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ibis lock is nice but what about if you're just moving around like for instance if you pan to the floor or something like that or even if you're swaying side-to-side which that is what I do a lot when filming music videos.. I used a friend of mine's Lumix camera to play around with and it did some weird jerking motion with footage ironically enough it went good with the music video.. I'm actually a Sony user..

    • @FabledFew
      @FabledFew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has three modes. The normal IBIS works well for panning and hand-held footage, then there's a "up and down" stabilization which is suited well for tilting shots. The IBIS Lock is only good when you want a stable, locked-off shot. It will try to keep the same frame as long as it can, so when you move camera, that's when you get those jerky movements.

      Honestly? G9. I love the G9, but S1 is a full-frame G9. The GH5 still has some video capabilities not found in G9 or S1, so if I were to keep a combination, it would be GH5 + S1.
