  • TRASH HEAP 1960 Plymouth Fury
    1960 Plymouth Fury with SonoRamic Commando Power
    Plymouth cars had high-flying tailfins integrated into the rear quarter panels of their cars from 1955 to 1960. The Fury, named after the Furies, mythological creatures in Greco-Roman mythology, was introduced for 1956 as a sub-series of the Belvedere; then becoming a separate full-size car series, one level above the Belvedere for 1959 to 1961.
    1960 was the first year for unibody construction and the first year for Chrysler's ram induction system. This year the original 318, 361 and 383 V8s were available. The 225 cu in slant-6 was also available. The high performance 383 cu in, dual-quad, cross-ram induction engine, named "SonoRamic Commando Power," seen here, produces 330 hp.
    A total of 63,073 full-size Plymouth cars were produced in 1960, of which 7,080 were convertibles. Factory price for a Fury convertible was $2,932, with a shipping weight of 3,630 lbs.
    A Plymouth ad of the time noted, "No, they're not fins!" ... "A car has two centers: a center of gravity and a center of pressure. To keep the car stable, the center of gravity should be low and forward, and its center of pressure should be as far to the rear as possible". One way Plymouth managed to bring the center of pressure back was by designing stabilizers. These stabilizers "reduce by 20% the needs for steering correction in a cross wind."

    I thought Scott’s 1960 Fury restoration on the Cold War Motors TH-cam channel was stretching the limits of restoration with a two car splice.
    I was shocked to see the wreck you started with. Amazing results, even for a professional shop.

      Standing beside it, we could dot believe how much work had been done to bring this car back to life. If we'd never seen the "before" pic, it would have been nearly impossible to fully understand how far gone this car was and how far it came back!

    Magnificent restoration work! You have to be a Chrysler Plymouth fan to spend so much money to restore a classic from junk pile to show room condition. ( I would design and build a custom unique car(a 2009 Chevy Malibu) with seat belts, air bags, fuel injection engine, and all crash cabin safety reinforcement for less money and more miles of reliable transportation). Thanks.

    • @TwoGuysandaRide
      @TwoGuysandaRide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      His biggest effort went to restraint, not making it better than it was. He did take a few liberties on the color and such but overall he brought it back to life as it originally rolled off the assembly line.

    As garish as those fins are, it is a masterpiece! The color combination is stunning, much like my Grandmother's 1959 Sport Fury Coupe in Bronze with a White Top. Powell Chrysler/Plymouth in Escondido where she lived and bought the car put Kelsey Real Wire Wheels on the car which set it off like a million bucks. I believe the car had a 361 cubic inch V-8, not certain.

    Absolutely beautiful restoration and I find the color schema suits it perfectly.
    2:52 Interesting Tidbit.
    I live in Canada and my Dad had a "Canadian" 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer. So in my later years I've looked up 1960 Dodges and the instrument panel was NEVER like the one in my Dad's car. In actual fact, the dash in his Canadian 1960 Dodge Pioneer was identical to the one in this U.S. 1960 Plymouth. That "Barrel Roll Speedometer" was a blast.
    Another difference between American and Canadian Chrysler products of that era was the entry level V8 engine. It is my understanding (possibly incorrect) that the 318 cubic inch engine was introduced in 1957/58 in the U.S. However, Canadian versions of both the Dodges and Plymouths were equipped with 313 cubic inch Canadian Built engines. Dad had both that 1960 Dodge Pioneer and a 1964 Dodge 440 with this 313 2 Barrel V8 and BOTH were quite potent competitors for their day. I was once in the 1960 Dodge with my older brother at the helm and it peeled rubber all the way through an intersection with 7 people onboard. Of course the tires were crap back then and squealed mercilessly. when provoked. I once saw another 1960 Dodge with the 4 barrel equipped 313 Police interceptor engine and that thing really hauled.

    Too bad you killed a Coupe for that, which is so much better looking than a cvt. Anyway, great restoration. The cloth btw, is not correct, it's close but different than oe. You really need the Hi-Fi Radio, that matches the other buttons. I'm into these for 40+ years and never saw a multi color speedo on a 60 Plymouth. They are all solid red from the factory.

    • @TwoGuysandaRide
      @TwoGuysandaRide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was an original convertible car not a coupe, and as he stated in the video he did take some liberties with the restoration, top color, car color, interior, etc. To my knowledge Randy has never tried to pass this car off as a factory correct restoration. Instead he had it restored to his liking and I guess if you’re the one writing the checks you can do it your way!

    • @bigblockjalopy
      @bigblockjalopy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TwoGuysandaRideno problem, my 60 Fury isn't 100% original either. I think I saw a straight 60 Fury quarter panel in the video and since cvt are so rare, was assuming it's a coupe. IIRC, the cloth was called correct, which it isn't. Again, great job. I wonder how you welded the panels to the lower sections without warpage!
