  • This 1959 Dodge Custom Sierra wagon is finished in aquamarine and cream over green vinyl and cloth upholstery and is powered by a 361ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Work under previous ownership included a repaint, retrimming the interior, and replacement of the brakes, tires, and shocks as well as refurbishing the carburetor and cooling system.
    Features include chrome bumpers and trim, a roof rack, 14″ wheels with polished covers, swiveling front seats, fold-down second-row seats, a rear-facing third row “Spectator” bench seat, and fender-mounted mirrors.
    Additional work included replacement of the weather stripping and window channeling as well as re-chroming the bumpers. It is also equipped with a chrome grille, deluxe side moldings, tinted windows, and a fold-down rear tailgate with a power-retractable window.
    The front bucket seats swivel, and the second row and rear-facing third row “Spectator” seats fold flat. Other features include, wind-up windows, a push-button gear selector, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. Interior restoration included replacement of the upholstery, door panels, and carpets as well as repair of the headliner.
    The 361ci V8 was rated at 305 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque when new and features a four-barrel carburetor.

    The cars of the 50s tell us of time in America when everything we made was based on innovation and reliability. I still have a washing machine and a refrigerator from 1956. They both work.

    I know this is an older video but I do love this car! Stations wagons always ring my bell for some reason. I do believe the knob that doesn't seem to do anything is in fact a speed minder, must not be attached. Also, I didn't notice on the dash anywhere the heater controls. I looked at the video several times and I just don't see them. Am I wrong?

      @TwoGuysandaRide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Hopefully Randy will see this and be able to answer the question about the heater controls. Thanks for watching!

      It’s the Speed Minder Speedometer option. It’s disconnected. It would buzz just like GM’s optional product. The heater controls are horizontal push buttons along the lower right edge of the chromed bezel that surrounds the instrument cluster, below the oil pressure gauge an ignition.

    Gorgeous car! I don't want to profess to know more about your car than you do, but I think those swivel seats could be factory equipment. I say this because the top of the line Plymouth Sport Fury had swivel seats.

    I am disappointed the owner didn't mention that his girlfriend actually purchased this car for him. Lou Constable did a video in which this was pointed out. A little point of order - The "Spectator" moniker" indicated the 3rd row seating - Sierra and Sierra Custom was the trim level. Also, swivel seats WERE available. Dad ordered them when he ordered our '59 Spectator in the fall of '58. The little round knob to the right of the speedometer was originally a speed minder. it had numbers to 10, as I recall. You pointed the pointer of the knob toward a number and it would flash the parking brake warning light when you reached the assigned speed. 6=60, 7=70, etc. The one in our car didn't work well, so dad had the wiring disconnected. The numbers on the bezel faded with age.

      Randy told us off camera that Sally had “loaned” him money to buy the car. We didn’t think it added anything to the video nor did they so it wasn’t mentioned on camera. Plus if you knew Randy you’d know that he’s got more money than God and the thought of him having to “borrow” money is pretty funny.
      You are correct the Lou filmed this car as well. He’s flown in a couple of times to film some of Randy’s cars. That being said, we’re actually friends of Randy’s and not just fly in fly out video guys. Thanks for sharing

    The term "observation lounge" was borrowed from trains--the round-end rear car with a lounge inside was often called that in ads and timetables.
    Swivel seats were available on all Chrysler models, not just Chryslers.

    I think the roumd knob on the dash is a dash backlight dimmer. It is likely missing the rheostat connected to the dash bulbs.

      i fon’t think the dash gauges had light bulbs at this time.they were painted with electro-luminescent paint running a current through it caused it to glow. that waythere are no bulbs to burn out. That make sense for that knob to be a rheostat, as upping the current would maybe up the brightness.

    Does anyone know when the Chrysler Corporation started using galvanized sheet metal in its car production thus avoiding premature oxydation/rusting of its quarter panels as I witnessed in my dad’s 1957 Dodge. ( above headlight housing was pretty bad as in totally eaten away)(gaping crater) 🇨🇦
