But thank you again for this video.
So many people have left Hawaii I met a few here in New Jersey. A co worker said it was just too hard why you pay $1600 for rent when on the mainland you can find a apartment for $1200 to 1350 so people are coming here. He said he doesn’t plan on going back either

This camp is just down the road from my home in Ewa Beach. What Twinkle is doing is amazing, and she deserves all the help she can get. It looks like they are going to have a nice community across the street and start building little homes for everyone, so things are looking up.
I lived in Waianae side all my life. My whole family is Hawaiian and live Leeward side, but I was fortunate to live in a home. I recently moved to the mainland due to the rising prices, and visited family last year after 3 years off island. It's heartbreaking knowing how expensive the island had become, even after 3 years(tho it was always expensive) I'm just glad I grew up in a stable household, which is rare for Hawaiians nowdays
Brandon i was born and raised in Hawaii and this mean so much that your bringing your attention and shining light on this situation that no one knows about. I moved to Washington and everyone asks me why i moved from a paradise. No one knows about the poverty situation and housing situation for locals. I was one of 23 graduates in my class of 200, most of the kids did not have a safe place to sleep at night but would still attend school. Go to maui and help the community over there they need it bad. Thank you for this video❤❤❤

As a local Hawaiian thank you so much for bringing awareness, you have no idea how much it means to us. I also wanna say if you experienced any kind of ignorance or racism during your stay just ignore them. We’re not all like that.
The racism and ignorance is the reason my wife is leaving me and leaving island. Not just local Hawaiians, but the Asians hardcore. I pass for local, so never have issues. But she's spaniard descent, so everyone thinks she's white until she opens her mouth.

Dont get to worried about being important your important to your friends and family. I suggest you find yourself a good girl and live a simple life wish someone told me that when i was your age . Live each day to the fullest
thank you for bringing light on this subject. being born & raised out on the west side of oahu & homeless for some years as a teen, its great to see someone from the outside show some kindness to those that are struggling. ive never lived in blue top city myself, but John Isacc was a close friend of mine & its great to see hes doing okay out there. i have a few pics of us from when we both were running amok. most of locals ridicule & joke about the homeless/houseless community, not knowing how it is for themselves. thank you, brandon. aloha isnt dead.
What a beautiful community they have built. I lived in Hawaii for a few years about 20 years ago. The house my husband and I owned has more than doubled in value. The rampant greed in this country is destroying it.
Thanks Brandon for these videos. I know a lot of people come here for other types of content, but you're exposing them to real life issues and helping to de-stigmatize them. You're a real one dude. Cold ass riding.
Great video, you’re really becoming a compassionate and caring interviewer and it shows to the people you interview- they seemed to really open up to you. Well done! 💖
I just left the island yesterday. Ship my SUV out . But to survive I live in my SUV. After the pandemonium 3 years ago many have lost jobs, move out and become homeless. Yes priced out of paradise it’s very sad. Other families can still survive if family already owned a house. Some can still survive if you choose your lifestyle carefully. Prayers for everyone. Aloha
I’m so mad Brandon that the video is only 13 minutes, but I am extremely grateful. Thank you for making more content.💓💓💓💓 this is a very informing video 💓
The homeless camp has a beautiful thing going. Brandon it always cracks me up how when you tell some stories it will show you at 15 different locations. I know that takes a long time.
Ive worked and grown up with people from Guam, and Hawaii. The story is nearly universally that they came here because there is basically no work on the islands and they are being priced out. They nearly universally tell me they plan to move back and would rather be living on the island if they could afford it. These are people who were born and grew up there and their ancestors lived there forever and the only reason they cant stay is because all of the sudden someone showed up and told them it costs 800,000 dollars to go build a house somewhere. Its the same story generally everywhere else these pressures are occuring, just that here its basically ethnically cleansing a colonial posession of an empire by displacing the people there. The problem is land being a "store of value" and people thinking lands purpose is to be "more" valuable over time. Its erronious. And mortage backed securities inflate the value of the land because of speculation on the value of purely financial paperwork ownership value concepts.
Almost none of them say they are "homeless" they all say "house less" they have a genuine, real community and that's home, they just don't happen to have houses. Great work per usual brandon!
Went there about a month ago it’s seriously messed up how bad the natives are struggling. I think they should be exempt from taxes or be given a monthly payment from a tourist tax either way something needs to be done.
I don't think non-Hawaiian natives should be able to buy a property there n hike up rent just because it's a tropical island type paradise that's their native home they shouldn't be displaced for $
I found one of your videos randomly a while ago and I just have to say, you are seriously doing more for the world than 99% of people. I have learned so much about all kinds of different communities from your work. Knowledge is half the battle and making a real difference to help is reliant on that. As a Japanese American, I feel for native Hawaiians as my siblings. We share many ties and I truly feel that my community would not have been able to thrive without Hawaiians. My great grandmother was born in Honolulu and while I may not know anyone from the island now, their struggles and triumphs are important to me. Everyone try and find a local Hawaiian joint and grab some spam musubi, ya hear!
We need a system like this up on kauai. We need. A place where people can park, camp and recover from a bad situation.Much respect to twinkle, sistah is one awesome leader 🤙🏽
As someone who is from Hawaii and is Native Hawaiian I could only wish and dream of living in my homeland I hope everyone outside of Hawaii can educate themselves and respect the wishes of Native Hawaiians to stop vacationing in Hawaii. Thank you for making this video, hopefully one day I can live there again and enjoy my hometown
The community they managed to build despite the incredibly messed-up circumstances is really impressive (which made me glad to see that there's a donation link in the description, I'll make sure to drop by the gofundme after the video)
RIP Twinkle. You did more for the people of Hawaii than the state ever could/would. You did it with kindness, acceptance, compassion. You worked hard to secure the land and start building homes for your community. Your legacy will live on with the people who loved you. Rest easy.
Haven’t seen a buckingham vid in a while, but god damn first thing I noticed was the editing and production quality seems super high. Gonna be a fun watch
As a native Hawaiian who lived in Hawaii my whole life I had to move because of the cost of living. I am able to get a higher education and provide for my family now. It hurts though when I hear people who are not Hawaiian brag about how they have a house on Hawaii and ask me if I’ll return. I long to go back home but don’t know if I’ll ever have a place again.
The Aloha spirit of welcoming, embracing, warmth is so strong. I live in city with rampant homeless and have volunteered with that community. Homelessness on the mainland comes with a lot of lawlessness. You don’t see that here, there is so much respect and care here within the homeless community in Waianae.
Yea living here in Oahu is just LA but much smaller and much worser. Living day to day catching the bus and going to work can be very somber feeling you look and everybody looks stressed it never used to be this stressful before covd and before inflation. I’m very lucky to be living comfortably but that doesn’t mean that there’s no work being done my mom is a school teacher and my dad is a welder full time and that’s just not enough my mom and I are getting second jobs just to pay the rent. Kick aside the rant I’m really happy to see people contribute to those who can’t live in Hawaii and have to move away or live on the street. I will be donating and I hope others do the same too. Mahalo.
People call America a third world country wearing a Gucci Belt; Hawai'i is just straight up coming out of third world status I swear. Cost of living is so expensive, violence is common, and everyone has to work long hours just to live. At the same time, everyone here is divided. You have so many disagreements about what to do about it, so much culture being lost, and families are crashing into modern American family values more and more.
I just want to say thank you for showing the world this Hawaii has gotten so bad over the past few years government is super corrupt awesome video Brandon ❤
I'm so fucking happy to see your youtube FINALLY taking off, dude. I started watching your first year after quitting your job. You have always put 200% into every video and it shows. I hope this can provide for you like you deserve, man!
I love how they say houselss rather than homeless. They may not have a legitimate house but they have built a home out of that community. Prayers to all!
Honestly as beautiful as Hawaii is and also has beautiful weather for the most part (even though I enjoy rain and thunderstorms but not hurricanes or super strong storms) this probably is one of the best places to live like this and I can definitely see where most of the community has fallen on hard times but I’m sure there are some who enjoy living like This. Bc Twinkles has def made the best out of harsh times for the people in this community.
I came here to let you know that Twkinles sadly passed away on Monday August 5th.. no details on her death have been released. She was a light to the community and will be missed by many. Thank you for shining a light on her with your platform
Thank you for making this video. I was born and raised in Hawaii and I spent parts of my childhood homeless. People think I lived in a rich paradise or something when I say I'm from there since I'm out of state at college now but I've always floated around the poverty line with my family. It's never been easy. The cost of living is too high and Native Hawaiians are the ones suffering the MOST (I'm not Kanaka Maoli)
Brandon, I hope you see dis but just to let you know Twinkle passed away this past monday, thank you for sharing her story and bringing awareness to her kind soul braddah
Pass the law, if you own a property in Hawaii but don't live there less than 10 months per year, you must sell it. Or property will be confiscated and transformed into a shelter with 75% acupancy, if acupancy is less than 75% - property will be demolished.
Thumbs up for Twinkle

I lived in Waianae side all my life. My whole family is Hawaiian and live Leeward side, but I was fortunate to live in a home. I recently moved to the mainland due to the rising prices, and visited family last year after 3 years off island. It's heartbreaking knowing how expensive the island had become, even after 3 years(tho it was always expensive) I'm just glad I grew up in a stable household, which is rare for Hawaiians nowdays
Yeah I'm glad I left. Can't even get toilet paper when guy hagi starts trippin.

Brandon is the best, glad he isnt the “douchey influencer” brandon is real man straight up, bless up brandon💪

The people are so humble. It's great to see people being together.

The Aloha spirit of welcoming, embracing, warmth is so strong. I live in city with rampant homeless and have volunteered with that community. Homelessness on the mainland comes with a lot of lawlessness. You don’t see that here, there is so much respect and care here within the homeless community in Waianae.
It’s so sad that everyone goes as tourists but the locals are suffering… it’s truly heartbreaking and disgusting
