  • What used to be her spot to catch some fresh air has become anything but for Bee Bletsian in the building she’s called home for 13 years.
    Just south of downtown Minneapolis, behind an old brick building on the corner of 5th Avenue South and East 24th street, on a city-owned lot, it’s easy to see why.

      Compassion would be having effective programs that actually worked. Complaining to homeless people is not compassion. Complaining to government is. The situation for finances is only getting worse and a lot more normal people are becoming homeless. If you were homeless because you lost your job would you feel nice and happy after making the only decision you could make and sit in a tent in freezing cold?

      Do you think all urban people are a homogenous blob? Just because the majority of voters in an area voted one way doesn't mean everyone did. Furthermore, the majority of eligible MPLS voters don't vote in municipal elections, so it is statistically unlikely that a resident voted for this.

    • @shouldhavedonebetter
      @shouldhavedonebetter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@DerpPickles When you add up the DFL and Democrat Parties - Minneapolis leans about 90% left. The last Republican to serve as Mayor was Richard Erdall - who served for 1 day (December 3, 1973). The last elected Republican was P. Kenneth Peterson - elected in 1957 - 67 years ago. The last Republican on the Minneapolis City Council was elected in the early 70's. 12 out of 13 members of the City Council are DFL - with one - Robin Wonsley - an Independent Socialist. 4 out of the 12 DFL members also ran on the Democratic Socialists of America line. There are no Republican elected officials in Minneapolis - so yes - they got what they voted for.

    I grew up outside of Detroit and witnessed first hand the effects and outcomes of decades of voting for and supporting libral democrats and their ideas... Detroit was the richest city in the country per capita in the 1950's and was descimated by voters that belived that librals had the right path for their city. The result was total collaps within 3 short decades. Minneapolis is on a mad dash to repeat the history of Detroit. "Those who don't learn and pay attention to history are condemed to repeat it." Your police chief is going to quit, more and more businesses are going to leave. Income desparity will get wider and wider, the weathy will flee further and further from the cities and take all of their commerce and money with them. The tax base will continue to erode, home values will continue to drop... Kings Highway will be a street full of mansions that have been abondond and rot. Last their will be few scraps to fight over as empty suits gaslight the vanrauble into given them the power to bilk them for the little money they have creating a perpetual cycle of rot. I worn you now Twin City residents, if you continue to elect librals you will get "more" of what you have today and none of it is good.

    The Democrats are the root cause of this whole situation , they are responsible for high Property Tax which results in high rent , they are also responsible for keeping wages down in Minnesota . Most Financial experts will agree that a single person working at a non college degree full time job should be paying no more than 30% of their take home pay for housing and bills . When people work 40-50 hour per week and can't afford to pay rent it causes Depression , which is also the reason some people turn to drugs . Once a person is homeless it is very hard to keep a job and almost impossible to get a job . The Homeless could have a better situation but most of the money that should be for the homeless is spent on Illegal Immigrants and Foreigners that come here and take advantage of the systems and push out these people who are now homeless . I know this for a fact because my elderly mother who had to get signed up for housing assistance when she got older was pushed out of her housing and had to come live with me for the last few years of her life . Here is an example , there are about 47,000 Illegal children in public school in Minnesota and it costs about $14,000 per child per year , meanwhile there are homeless camps and there will be more . Some of the people who are complaining about these homeless camps now , will be in a homeless camp in the future because they will be pushed out of the system too , or priced out when rent gets too high for them .

    The average citizen really is helpless. Our “leaders“ do not listen to us. They do what they want to do anyway, to serve themselves, or whatever special interest paid them off. We have no voice. What a shameful outcome Mayor Frey is weak.

      I call Mayor Frey "Man-Baby Frey" or "Mom Jeans Frey" he is very feminine. Last week on the anniversary of St Floyd's death, Governor No Ballz Waltz came out and had nothing but praise for St. Floyd and the riots.

      It's not just Minnehopeless. Those of us in Hennepin County are being punished for what Minneapolis does. My property taxes are through the roof and I live in a suburb. I guess somebody has to pay for the "Summer of Love".

      I live in Northern MN and my property taxes have gone through the roof in the last four years... for what? Nothing. I didn't vote in these fools, but honestly, I think they're ALL fools. They all have their personal agendas and once they've achieved them, they could give a rat's patoot about the rest of us. And now Trump is begging for money. Trump! It's all a sh't show and we're the ones who have to endure them. Lesser of two evils... my god, that means we're still voting in evil! The whole system is a contaminated cesspool and there's no way out.

    Live in the twin cities and this is ridiculous! They have been offered help and most refuse it because they would need to get clean. This has been going on since I was in middle school (I’m 50) and nothing changes.

    I am so sorry for Bee and other Minneapolis residents who have to endure this kind of urban camp living in their home space. The city comes in and bulldozes them down; they move and set up another campsite; after a while, the city comes in, and the cycle repeats, but it never ends. The mayor pretends that crime is down because he doesn't know how to fix the problem.

    I live in a city and state that is currently proposing laws that would give rights so that camps like this could exist on any public property. I don't understand why they can't see that these policies have been bad for communities and bad for the homeless.

Lawlessness prevails. Until the rule of law is implemented, supported and reinforced, nothing will change.
