Android 18, originally named Lazuli when she was an ordinary human, is the twin sister of Android 17 and Dr. Gero's eighteenth android creation, designed to serve Gero's vendetta against Goku. While her interests do not initially deviate from this expectation, her curiosity to activate Android 16, in spite of Gero's orders not to do so, leads Android 17 to take it upon himself to murder Gero. Eventually, Android 18 becomes a member of the Z Fighters, as well as the wife of Krillin and the mother of their daughter Marron.

I like how discovering her feelings for Kirillin basically allowed her to turn her life around from assassin to loving parent/mother without compromising her deadly badass lethality, especially in protection of her family. Her going up against very powerful beings on occasion and winning only adds to it all.
17 & 18 never actually killed anyone in the main timeline. They stole a car and 18s outfit. Future Trunks timeline is another story all together tho.

Vegeta killed more people than the Androids, and I don't mean in Saiyan/Buu Saga
18 and 17 actually became my favourites for some odd reason. In this timeline 17 is relaxed, easy going and sounds cool. But 18, she actually reached out to the man who saved her Several times. Our Chad boi Krillin.

Both of them are actually incredibly laid back (though also somewhat mischievous) people as the later episodes revealed, and I'm willing to bet the future ones were also the same, calm and collected, before the future Gero tampered with their minds after Goku died. Makes you kinda feel bad for em not gonna lie
they werent really evil in the normal timeline, they just kinda had a job to do and were bored. possibly tramatised from thier making. i dont think they actually killed anyone(not that thats something special, you shouldnt kill people anyways). they screwed with vegeta and the z fighters a bit and 17's fight with piccolo was actually a pretty good fight. and 18 just wanted to be a normal girl seemingly.
@@theshermantanker7043 As I understand it, Gero had a choice between 2 things in finalizing 17 and 18:
1. Reprogram them to hate humans, turning them into murderous and destructive sociopaths.
2. Redesign them to make them stronger.
Future Gero choose the first option because Goku had died and he thought this would make them more controllable… somehow, while Main Timeline Gero chose the second.

Just thinking they did her bad by giving such a fate to such a powerful character

Android 17 and 18. Such a tragic story. Kidnapped. Made into Androids. Waking up with no purpose in life except for Goku. Android 17 acknowledges this as they seem to have no purpose beyond that. Fun how one goes on to become a wildlife protector and the other gets married and has a child. The implementation of Cell and their saving and resurrection by Z fighters are the only reason they don't just become future trunks versions again.
The one who got married also got sucked by cell

The most tragic part of Future Trunks' timeline is revealed when 18 says "Fun is for humans, and we aren't human anymore, remember?"
In a twisted nihilistic way, the androids in Trunks' timeline are just trying to retain the last shred of their humanity by fighting off boredom. Literally.
That is a very poetic way of looking at it.
@@custommediacreations Idk, it was so striking hearing future 18 talking about "Fun" and getting bored so quickly and desperately seeking out more fun. It was a stark contrast to our 18's line of "fun is for humans."
Freed from her programming by Goku's death, they desperately sought fun to regain their humanity. To see that future 18 sees fun as worth while, means to me that she's beyond sadness and a lack of purpose, and has lapsed into madness in seek of her lost humanity.

@@custommediacreations Well, ultimately its possible Toriyama didn't either. He wasn't involved in the creation of either TV special, so someone else wrote that dialogue anyway.
@@Dad...... Considering Toriyama’s interpretation of the future androids still involved them fucking around and killing just for fun, and considering how no-nonsense he made our 18 in spite of that fact, the contrast in values actually does seem intentional.
Of course, he probably never thought about it in the exact manner you worded it, but the general concept you presented was definitely always there.
I loved her roles as the wife of Krillin, mother of Maron, sister of 17/Lapis and ally of the Z fighters.
Does 18 know about Krillin's exgirlfriend Maron or because she was a filler character and therefore doesn't exist in the main story

@@Ichy3 but precisely is not the official story, therefore, in the canon she doesn't exist. Non-canon is not relevant because anything crazy can happen (although sometimes in the canon also there are mistakes, especially since Super, but less), like Oolong defeating Freezer.

Like almost every other love story in Dragon Ball. Even counting fillers and movies, there is not much more, because Toriyama don't like to focus on that. About Toei Animation and their horrendous fillers and movies, in this last years apparently they realized that a lot of people likes romance in this series, that's why they put a bit more love or, at least, couple cooperation scenes, especially in the cases of Bulma & Vegeta, 18 & Krillin, and Mai & Trunks.
@@soydelrojo9346 Honestly, letting people or studio interpret the offscreen relationship on their own based on the current relationship is not too bad. Imagination is pretty powerful media after all

Pretty much the same situation as Gohan, 18 settled down, started a family and focused on being a good mom and wife rather than training. Thankfully, also like Gohan, she got a insane power boost when the TOP came around.
I already know that this is going to be semi tragic. But at least she gets a happy ending.

They shouldn't have to "power up" characters for them to be relevant. Power Level logic and transformations are such a crutch and all they do is cause problems for the development of the story and the characters.

Lazuli aka Android 18 & Lapis aka Android 17 are literally one of the best characters ever bro, in Future Trunks timeline when Future Gohan fought Android 17 & Android 18 for 13 days and they finally kill Future Gohan, Future Trunks became Super Saiyan off of his rage is Gohan was basically a brother/ father figure and they did kill all of the Z fighters in the alternate timeline, but when Future Trunks came back to the present time everything that he was worried about was COMPLETELY CHANGED, Android 16, Android 17 & Android 18 were not really cold blooded killers at all. Krillin is the GOAT 🐐, he pulled a baddie, proud of my guy

Dragon Ball FighterZ game has given her a spotlight for her, Android 21 and the human warrior who’s soul is linked into 18.
It's interesting that in the main timeline, 17 and 18 canonically killed less people than Vegeta did. Even during their arc (he is responsible for all of the deaths in 18's fight) he killed more than them.
The main timeline ones were at best neutral to the Z fighters. I'd love to have seen how the saga had continued with Goku and them fighting. Maybe they'd have become main characters, never being able to beat Goku but finding purpose in fighting with him. They'd become friendly rivals, like Vegeta at the time.
For your next Dragon Ball video, please discuss about alternate timelines since there are two different Android 18s. Let alone ad in “The Life of Future Trunks”.

I really enjoyed DBZ but it seems like it took a turn for the worse after and never watched any of the later series. The Android/Cell Saga was definitely my favorite arc.
Super is pretty bad. has a few OK moments but mostly soulless.
