    ....
    "punk is the way I live my life"

    • @sidbaker1
      @sidbaker1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Well, you see, punk is a state of mind. While punk has a subculture, fashion, music, etc. You don't necessarily have to be apart of the subculture, wear the fashion, or even listen to the music to be punk. I don't know if I've explained this well, but I hope I did.

    • @CardiganSnoopy
      @CardiganSnoopy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I genuinely think that the individual has a point though.
      The guy wears the fashion and goes to gigs and if he and his friends do not identify themselves as part of a subculture but admits that punk is the way he lives his life, then he is a part of that subculture by default premise.
      It's as if you'd say that you eat everything with the exception of all types of meat but you're not a vegetarian. Given your statement, quite literally *anything* can be a state of mind in that case.

      MasterMI6. Nah don't try to explain it away. They contradicted themselves. I'll use Japan as an example since we're here. Wathching NHK World one time, they had a special where they visited various businesses in Tokyo. One was a men's barbershop: barbers decked out in suits, tweed, beards, fucking straight razors etc. Basically everything that's happened in men's style the past 10 years. It was in this shop. The NHK narrator explains: "This barber follows the old ways, but yet refuses to follow the trends..." Get the fuck outta here. They contracted themselves.

      They are a small shop, and nobody really knows/recognized that brand in the wild. The people that buy it, buy it because they appreciate the work. If they just wanted to show off they can buy some expensive famous designer shit.

  • @tonytuffers
    @tonytuffers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Surely the true ethos of punk is rebellion, anarchy and generally not really giving a shit. How much would it cost for one of those leather jackets? They're probably worn by rich posers who can afford it and not real punks. Japanese are extremely creative at copying western fashions, but I don't think they really get it

    • @nikolai3620
      @nikolai3620 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Any top notch leather jacket is going to cost an arm and a leg, though. You don't have to be rich to afford one, per say. It just depends on where you place your priorities.

    • @Rao665
      @Rao665 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point Nik Murphy. But tony tookie is also on to something. Japan is weird...it's a VERY superficial country, yet when you are out and about, no one really gives a crap what you're wearing. What I've noticed there is that they love to draw themselves into subcultures; and within these subculture, they emphasize STYLE. It's all about the s clothes, accessories etc that supposedly relate to whatever sub culture they want to be a part of...they love the word "Style". Just an example: more space is dedicated to clothes in a magazine for say...Surfers, than in the US. So what i think happens there, they are trying to find a way to be unique by subscribing to a subculture. They try and look the part, but then no one else really cares out in public. So in a way Japan is superficial as hell...yet no fucks given.

    • @nikolai3620
      @nikolai3620 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Distressing and artificially aging a leather jacket to look vintage is the lamest thing. Stupid really. It’s like someone going to a military surplus store, buying a used uniform and a bunch of medals, then parading around on the street pretending to be a war veteran. You haven’t earned those stripes!!
