Well... What should I do? should I just cough up $150 and buy a new camshaft? Or can this one be fixed? if you know what I should do, please comment down below! And, sorry for the audio at the end of the video, sometimes I think my gopro really hates me. Thanks for watching guys!
Accelerator pump might not be working? Is it getting gas? And you could have sanded the steel clutch plates a bit to make them a bit fresher. Not sure how long you soaked the fiberplates. But it should take about 1-2 hours at least. Im pretty sure it is the CAM. Because it doesnt look like you have enough compression for a 450
When starting those 4 strokes pump the throttle 2 times pull the choke in the on position and kick it don't give it gas while starting it has the accelerator pump so you don't give it throttle while starting I hope this info helps it worked great for my crf150r
I just bought a 06 yz250f that sat in a shed for six years . I rebuilt carb changed oil oil filter and air filter. The method I use to start is slowly kick the kick starter down half way then raise it back up give it a quarter throttle and jam the kick started down and stay on the gas just a quarter and it should start right up.!
Seriously unless your a high level intermittent level rider no way you need a hot cam! 1 of 1000 avid riders can control the stock power of a 450. Facts why not just buy a used cam for like 20$ on eBay?
Jay Franklin 71 i can’t agree more, i race B open and 250B on my YZ250 2 smoke and even though I’ve been racing for years I still can tap all the power out of it, in B open I race my built up 450 that I used to race hill climbs with and the only reason I said to go for the hot cams is because it is sometimes cheaper to go that rout than to get an OEM one even when they are used and this bike is a budget build, no hate on GoldGuy but he should have probably got a 250f to learn to ride on than a 450f when it comes to dirtbikes even the 250fs can put you on your ass if you not carefully because of the mx gearing on them.
just a suggestion, when you were cranking it over with the ratchet to make sure the valves weren't hitting the piston you were going way way to fast. Could have easily bent a valve if you got the timing wrong, what I do is pull the spark plug and slowly crank it over by hand because if a valve barely hits the piston you'll feel it going slowly as opposed to cranking it over quickly where you'll bend the valve and more then likely not even know it. Just my experience talking, just wanna try and save you from making an expensive mistake.
Luke Donnelly Throw off weight distribution of the engine. By swapping cams. ?? Wtf kind of philosophy is this. I’m just dumbfounded. Guess your legos are lopsided
Good job, your learning. I am sure you could get someone to index and spot weld that cam fairly cheap. its been done many times cheaper than 150.00 bucks
You have to pump throttle twice and then take you hand off of it. It’s not a 2 stroke, you have to get it to top dead center before kicking it down not just kick it like crazy and hope it fires. Tdy then give it 2 pumps of gas and kick it smooth but hard. And did you let tonight have been missing 1 of the steel plates in the clutch
Check your spark and check your valves clearances it helps a lot when your valves are in spec if they’re not in spec it will not start at all even with a good spark plug
Congrats on getting her started, I agree with a few viewers who said just bite the bullet and buy new cam shafts! Save yourself anymore headaches! Great job kid!
Good pickup . I've actually come across spun camshaft twice now . It's not easy to diagnose and not usually that far out on the lobe timing. The other thing to watch for I seen you have an 06 bike not sure what year your motor cause it's a box of parts but 06 had different clutch assemblies to 08 onwards.
Yes I just double checked the part numbers and the 2008 has 7steels 8 frictions . And the 2006, has 8 steels of different part number to the 08 steels and 9 frictions of the same part number as 08. So this would be alot of the reason why clutch was missing parts
The timing isn't the problem, you can tell the valve shims need to be changed, overtime they will wear and the tolerances get tighter so the valves can leak
Hell yeah brotha I knew you could do it!! You might wanna get a new camshaft because it’ll cost close to the same to get that old one fixed. And long term it’d be better
Great video. One question. When you initially checked the valve clearances in the last video, could you not tell then that the cam was not in the proper position? You stated the clearances were in spec. Was your intake cam not affecting your valves at top dead center having spun in the gear? Secondly. Pretty risky starting that bike up knowing the cam had previously spun in the gear, no?
Dude, great job on finding that cam being out of place with the timing mark. It was either the cause of the catastrophic failure, or the result. Either way, you do NOT want that cam in your bike. What you did to that bike is pretty amazing. It's pretty cool to see your skills develop as you go on. I can't wait to see what you do next. Thanks for sharing!
Jetting might be off. But If you're gonna sell it just get the cam spot welded at a machine shop. Or if you're gonna keep it might as well get a new Stage 2 Hotcam
I have set up cams by eye many times, there's nothing wrong with it. You can usually get it pretty close just by watching what the cams are doing. Also, why don't people use starting fluid? I use it all the time just to get the fuel moving
Hell yeah man, makin progress! If you have never ridden MX before, do some trail rides with it first to dial in the suspension, then ride it like you stole it! Looking forward to seeing a motovlog soon.
I have the exact bike well mine is an 04 everything has to be nuts on adjusted and carb perfect as you figured out they are rockets at least for this old dude😎 wish I could post a pic I've learned a couple of things you just go to it keep at it.around where I live they don't have much resale I'm going to just keep it..peace Tim ps hell yeah go ride mx what ever they are fast get ready!!
I think it’s best to spend the big bucks and get a proper camshaft. Or get an upgraded one for more power while you’re in there. I’m getting more and more excited to see this on the trails though
Everyone who actually knows what they are doing got so pissed off when you put the camshaft in how you did. That’s why I didn’t have a problem with it. I have no idea what I’m doing😂
Your air filter needs cleaning some simple dish soap does great, use a bucket even when you think ots clean theres a handful of black stuff everytime at the bottom of the bucket do it and see, I do it to every used bike I buy that they say "was cleaned every ride" haha
If you are anything like me you'll find a good used cam on ebay but for the time and money you put into it, just get a new cam and don't take chances with a used one.
You are heroic! BUT as I said on the last video, you need to change the engine oil. Dump that shit out of there and get a fully synthetic. It is a high performance engine and it REQUIRES high quality oil. I dont care how much you paid for it, it is still a high tech motor.
Well... What should I do? should I just cough up $150 and buy a new camshaft? Or can this one be fixed? if you know what I should do, please comment down below! And, sorry for the audio at the end of the video, sometimes I think my gopro really hates me. Thanks for watching guys!
GoldGuy pick up a fresh one
You dont have to buy new one.
if you can buy i new one i really want to se this thing ride
I would put a new one in. Fix it and sale that thing. You were supposed to put a gold chain on it as your trade mark.
Accelerator pump might not be working? Is it getting gas?

The expression on your face the first time it fired up was priceless.... Awesome job, awesome work!
You were missing one friction plate on the clutch originally
When starting those 4 strokes pump the throttle 2 times pull the choke in the on position and kick it don't give it gas while starting it has the accelerator pump so you don't give it throttle while starting I hope this info helps it worked great for my crf150r
Same with my '99 YZ400f.
And if your spending 150 on new intake camshaft spend the extra 30$ and get the hot cams stage 2 cam.
Can I buy just a hotcams intake cam and not an exhaust cam? Or do you have to change both to hotcams?
Both
zach stoops false u can just use 1 but it won’t pergolas well as using both.
Seriously unless your a high level intermittent level rider no way you need a hot cam! 1 of 1000 avid riders can control the stock power of a 450. Facts why not just buy a used cam for like 20$ on eBay?

I have been struggling with the same problem for three days. You are a saint!
That’s awesome that you got it started. I was also one of those guys that maybe he is doing something wrong but nope you got it

May as well just buy the hot cams more power Bigger cam
that's true
Oooooh yeeeeeah man, a great big lumpy cam, nothing better when looking for more power.
Nothing like throwing the weight distribution/balance of the engine off lol
Luke Donnelly Throw off weight distribution of the engine. By swapping cams. ?? Wtf kind of philosophy is this. I’m just dumbfounded. Guess your legos are lopsided
Best feeling whe a bike ya built starts for the first time.

The K&N filter oil is for specifically the kn filter, thats paper. I'd wash that off and re-oil using foam filter oil. Maxiam or yamalube rband

Hey mate make sure u set your clutch lever for about 20 millimeters of free play u do that to make sure I don’t burn out your clutch
Love your vids and all the trial and error you go through which only leads to a thorough understanding of why and how things work! - Never stop!
Your just like me won’t give up until I figure it out good job getting it running. ✊🏼
Good job never give up that’s how you grow 👍
Jetting might be off. But If you're gonna sell it just get the cam spot welded at a machine shop. Or if you're gonna keep it might as well get a new Stage 2 Hotcam
Gee what a work out 💪 trying to get it going !
You don’t have to work out at a gym , you get heaps of exercise trying to get that YZ going!!
45 and 60 are rookie jets, Go 48 on the idle jet and like 168-175 on the main
I have set up cams by eye many times, there's nothing wrong with it. You can usually get it pretty close just by watching what the cams are doing. Also, why don't people use starting fluid? I use it all the time just to get the fuel moving
Bravo! I didn't think it would start. Well done!
Hell yeah man, makin progress! If you have never ridden MX before, do some trail rides with it first to dial in the suspension, then ride it like you stole it! Looking forward to seeing a motovlog soon.
There is an exhaust and two tires for this same bike on my local craigslist for more than you paid for your bike total.
How about a mid-body gasket set. Just a few more mounts to make sure all is good on carb end

I honestly love your videos
Been watching ya build it,that look was priceless when it started, good job man I knew you would get it this time
Heck yes. I'm glad it ran. MORE
i think ur problem is those aftermarket jets , they don’t have the same size hole as stock
Hey man just wondering what you used as a discription to find those bag of jets on eBay I couldn't find the link
WOOOOOO!! That sure is a great feeling! Congrats!!
Have a 03 KFX 400 quad that also spun a intake cam.
Just buy a new cam shaft -_-
Cool bro well done you dont quit coz you legit !!!!
Everyone who actually knows what they are doing got so pissed off when you put the camshaft in how you did. That’s why I didn’t have a problem with it. I have no idea what I’m doing😂

Did you ever buy a manual before deciding to take this project on ?
Well done for persevering with the bike, think I would have just stuck a cover over it and left it lol
i paid $2700 for a pos wr450f. its a great bike but i can tell the thing is about to blow.
I respect your determination
That was a little risky cutting the chain with it in your hand one slip you could lose a finger. Hold it in a vice. Always put safety first.
Well done mate, soon be on the track with that bad boy 👍👍
Where is the link for the jets??
johnsn10 I need the link too
Gold guy you ever think of getting an ultra Sonic cleaner
We’re rootin for you! Proud of what a great job you’re doing! You’ve came a long way.
I hope you do a total cost in the final build video.
Engine genius
Just spend the money and buy a new cam shaft and have a little piece of mind
Really enjoyed this vid! Some more with this bike
Yes some riding will be fun
Nice work on the build :) Now do a supermoto build and get that bike platet. Nothing more fun thn driving a supermoto on the streets ;)
Perhaps the gasket that could be a reason why there is oil leaking
Knew you would get it going.
Old goldguy logo was better why you changed it new ones not that good.
Looked in the description for the link on the jet assortment and didn’t see it, any chance i can get the link?
Get a new cam shaft do it the right way
If you are anything like me you'll find a good used cam on ebay but for the time and money you put into it, just get a new cam and don't take chances with a used one.
Love your vids bro
Awesome, congrats! Keep'em coming bud
Good job! I got butterflies in my stomach too😂
You are heroic!
BUT as I said on the last video, you need to change the engine oil. Dump that shit out of there and get a fully synthetic. It is a high performance engine and it REQUIRES high quality oil. I dont care how much you paid for it, it is still a high tech motor.
Is this a new logo? And keep it up man!
Well done !!
you need to drain the oil and put the correct amount in
Well worked through.
Man get a new camshaf and ride it u did so much work U deserve to ride it
At 17:11 the most critical of all Parts fell off the back of your bike, or your bike took a shit....

O rings shot I think
Love the vid!!
Is your turboed impreza still running???
Yeah I drive it almost every day, it runs great!
Do you still have the bike?
I thought I went death with that audio change ahahaha!!
The bolt to the seat fell when u turned it off
Your names Gold Guy. You should have bought a GOLD chain.
It might be worth the money just to get a new cam
See I put my own kx250 in time had it off bent a valve boom dropped it 2 hours later
Good work!
just in time
I like to send you some pictures too but not sure how to do so. So sorry I’m not Computer friendly
