People think I'm INSANE when I tell them that I write essays on topics that I'm learning about. One of the best ways to internalize new knowledge is to teach someone else, and since you won't always have a person interested in listening to you talk about greek mythology, cat behavior, or lambda calculus, writing short, high school style, 5-paragraph essay's about a topic is a freaking super power and you'll be amazed how much faster you will learn.

"Eat the meat and spit the bones" - I've never heard that phrase in this context before, but I have to admit that was a perfect match for what you were describing lol. Definitely made me pause the video and think for a minute!

Loved the video! I'm currently trying to intensively improve my German, and I'm looking forward to applying the habits you mentioned here. Because I've been basically self-studying the language, there are a lot of holes in my understanding, and making myself write or speak really does a great job of bringing my weaknesses to the surface.
I've been toying around lately with the idea of giving myself a list of 5 or 10 vocabulary words and forcing myself to write a short essay or story that incorporates all of them (and then check what I've written for grammatical and logical coherence, of course). This video has confirmed to me that I should go ahead and try it, so I'm gonna give it a whirl and see what happens. Thanks for making this video, Parker!📓

📓 thanks for this. I do some. My notebook for a class is indexed. However, having an essay notebook on the topics, well I have not done this. I will adopt this strategy for my class on Islaām. My next class will be Zen Buddhism. I can’t wait to try this from the beginning of my next class. Thanks!

The "problem"with apps like shortform are that it "removes" the need to read a whole book. The Profs at Columbia University are finding out their AP students were never required to actually read a whole book from start to finish. And it takes the need to think for themselves from the students. Just let AI do all of that, and we will become mindless :):)

📓 As journaling is practically my life work on this earth, during 20 years of living which was a bit after graduation, I looked back at how I study recorded information. It was... bland and unappealing because they were only outlines and bricks of paragraphs which was what I was taught in school for THEM the review. No mind maps to shake things up either. So I reinvent how I should take notes for myself by sketch noting going forward. I drew my headers for the pages I'm going to put work into and illustrate most of my outlines and bullet points. My recall for the page are almost instant because our brains thinks in pictures more than words and many illustrations helps summarize an idea expressed on the page. And there's still more room to discover about myself in how I store and recall knowledge. So.. 15 years afterwards now in my 40s, I never went back to making boring outlines and bullet points. Because I have to keep these.. these are my "Rooms" I visit every week or so and I want to open a door to a museum of knowledge that I personally built through raw passion.

11 Semesters is around three to five years depending without a break.
    Generally, you’re a career student.
In my day, I’ve ran into a few students that love college life so much,
They just take classes after classes. It’s like a beach bum but a college bum.
Eventually, economics or someone setting them straight and the finally move
on into the real world to actually use those skills they learned to make a difference.

Hi man, love your videos. I have a question, as a person who sometimes gets completely blank it's hard for me to get into writing or writing about my day at times since I end up forgetting all the events that happened lol I think I need therapy, but in this case, what are the topics you suggest are thought provoking and so much so that they'll never not be thought provoking even if we've already written a lot about it, if that makes sense. Since I'm pretty religious (although muslim), I think your tips would definitely help since I see you are also very involved in your religion. Thanks for all your work, and if you've already made a video on this and I missed it, you or anyone, please do link it here or let me know its title. Thanks guys.

I've seen them called book bones. They have weights in the ends, and you can lay them on your book to hold it open on a table while reading and taking notes.
Edit: If you want to get one for yourself, look for "book bones", not for "paperweights". Yes, they are a kind of paperweight, but they are an unusual kind. It's a square/rectangle situation.

Expansive Platenism you said a soup recipe would fall into this category- I was curious would a chemical formula like H2O also fall into this category?

    • @thejimmymeister
      @thejimmymeister 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I would guess no. Chemical formulas aren't formed by consensus or dependent on people; water really is H2O and was before humans hit the scene. That's a kind of natural form that we discovered but did not invent.

Ah the modern day cult of not having anything to believe in, is seen here in action.
So what is the result cult of not having anything to believe in ?
That's easy. People start over complicating the mundane. In this case note books and note taking.
Rather than seeing note books as a simple tool for storing knowledge and developing ideas, the note books themselves become the object or idol of your attention. And this leads to the over complicating of the role of them.
