If you like traktor, the s8 is without a doubt your best option. I haven't looked at my laptop while djing since I got the s8, and it's been a very pleasurable experience. Beatmatching is possible with the touch strips, and this is what I use instead of sync in order to have more control. The possibilities are endless, especially with the remix decks running 4 loops at a time each, a total of 10 audio sources running simultaneously help to create a complex soundscape in the mix. I'm not being paid to say this, in fact I invested into NI hardware, and I am not disappointed.

+Jim Richard Hi, i am thinking about getting one of these but i think sync is a disgusting button. I have a mc6000 and i like to line up the bpm manually and then cue it up manually. Is it possible to do that on this controller? i should imagine it is,as its a basic function of any mixer.

I'm a novice DJ and have been looking at controllers lately as I'm currently using Ableton and a Midi keyboard for my DJ sets. I loved seeing what people can do with the S8 but it looked intimidating for my level. This video finally sold me on it as I feel like I can really sink my teeth into the tool. Thanks so much!

@@whendoesthisend I did! I love it but the S5 might be better for mobile DJing especially if you don't use Stems which I haven't gotten into yet.

TECHNOLUST- will not leave me alone until I get this damn S8. This is the sickest machine Ive ever seen and when I played with one at Guitar Center all of a sudden it created a hole in my heart that will only be filled once I get one of my own. Nothing has ever done that to me except maybe falling in love with a guy.

Very interesting and informative video. I had hoped to hear about STEM mixing on the TRaktor S8... which is what I was looking for and there was nothing about it. Then I realised that this video was done quite a while ago (7 years ago?) so perhaps stems were not available at that time (?) It would be nice to see an update including the stem stuff
ENDO, Will you be mapping out the S8? Would Love to be able to use unused faders as tempo faders...
This guy knows his technical stuff. I wish they would make a new really kick ass 4 channel mixer (no jog wheels) like a Xone 92. A more modular system with a high quality sound card. Then you could mix and match what you want to use with it. Also make it easy to use plug and play with pioneer.
I wish they could make some NI turntables to go with that mixer. I would get that setup in a heartbeat.

So if not using a computer where do I connect my external drive to have access to all of my music? I have checked out the pix on NI but they have not posted really good pix of the back of the S8.
+xavier oaks I dont own an S8 but i guess its the same principle as setting the decks as "Live input" then it's up to you "pouring" music into the channels :)
Touch strips? No tempo slider? Hmmm. I will stick with Pioneer's DDJ mixer and Serrato. The main thing both the DDJ and this mixer is missing is a USB port for loading music directly from an external drive. Would be even better if we could run a version of the software built directly into the mixer so we can leave our laptops home and still play a gig. I know the cdj 2000's offer that. Would it be possible to build those features into a mixer without costing thousands more?

Im a Vinyl guy who is very interested in getting the S8 but since Im so used to the simplicity of Serato, all of these features look to complex to understand when I'm in a dance floor situation. Do you have any advice for a DVS guy like myself when using this piece?
You can do just about all the same stuff with Traktor Scratch and your turntables if you buy an X1. This controller isn't worth getting rid of your tables. I sold my 1200s and bought an S4, and I regret doing it.
How can I can sync the remix deck to the track deck?
You can also use your touch strip to scratch with flux mode.
Endo....what are the configurations to cue my songs in Traktor s8. Traktor is connected vis USB to my laptop. Do I need Audio dj4 or Audio 6 to make it work? Why my cue assignment buttons don't work? And I'm not referring to cue button on Transport Bar. I'm referring to the headphones cue buttons, the one's above the faders. I cannot listen thru my headphones at all. Any suggestion, anybody??? PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!IT WAS AN INTERNAL PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE

I use traktor with turntables. Im not a big fan of this controller, but I do like some things. I wish NI would make a smaller controller like this without the mixer/screens/touch strips. It would be ideal for those who use turntables/cdjs.

WHY THE KONTROL S8 KEEPS TROWING ITS SIGNAL WHILE THE UPRGHT FADER IS IN THE DOWN POSITION? THE LIGHTS ONLY DISAPEAR WHEN THE ASSIGN GAIN IS DOWN. WHILE THE TRACK IS PLAYING THE UPRIGHT FADER CONTROL IS DOWN THE SIGNAL IS ACTIVE AND THE MAIN GAIN IS ACTIVE. IT WILL SHOW THE SAME IN THE SOFTWARE. FADER DOWN AND LIGHTS GOING UP WHILE THE TRACK IS PLAYING. IS ANY WAY AROUND THIS? ANY ONE? PLEASE....
If only you could separate the 2 D2s from the mixer and plug it back in!!! NI please make this happen, would be great for traveling and make things much easier for the user.

wow how innovative to put buttons for every old feature, really a new way to do everything you've been doing before.
why is it when my turntables are active and playing i can't touch the "play button" on the same deck as the table is playing without the table being disconnected and then the only way to get it back is to close and re open tractor?
+illedelphian23 That happens to me as well, but i just have to "calibrate" the turntable, i don't have to close and re-open.

It's really sad when one of first thing you have to do now to accomplish a "perfect mix" is hit a sync button :( I'll stick to my turntables and Serato.
The S8 on its own is a sync based controller but you have the option to use turntables or CDJs with the S8 in which case you wouldn't need sync but you have all of the functionality of Traktor and the waveform display which makes using timecode vinyl even more fun.
If youre playing electronic music (especially any form of 4/4 house beats) whats the the point of NOT using sync? This is coming from someone who started with vinyl almost 15 years ago. Lil Swann
I love how he acts like any of this is new and exciting. All of these functions have been in Traktor for years. They still haven't even added the freeze and slice modes that are on the mobile app, which are cooler than anything he demonstrated in this video. Back to the drawing board NI. This was a big flop IMO.

The S8 does have a Freez mode.
Yea... Touch strip would be nice with a jog wheel. Touch strip is nice for 4/4 tracks but when you get into hip hop and want to do things in an abstract form. The touch strip is not worth it at all.
Pitch control is a serious deal breaker for me.

+daniel jefford what about live recordings? I mean not using drum/beat machines. Recorded by a human drummer and not a machine. The beat is not constantly.
I didn't want a lesson in Traktor - I wanted an overview of the S8.

try updating the firmware by downloading the free Traktor Kontrol S8 Device Updater here www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/, then go to preferences Traktor Kontrol S8 and hit re-calibrate for every knob and fader.
Endo Never mind Endo, I found out that the headphone or audio plug inside the unit was disconnected. I plug it back in and audio through headphones is back. Thanks for your response. Thanks for the link. I'll probably use it. Thanks...
