Great Video !! I bought my s8 3 months ago and I love it to play. But I have one problem - I can not hear the the tick (in EDIT MOD) on my headphones and I don't figure out why does anyone know why?
I use the Z2 mixer and I've noticed that it almost always gets the beatgridding spot on with house, breakbeat, trance, or even dubstep but unfortunately it really seems to struggle with drum and bass. Normally it doesn't even work to manually switch the beatgridding, it just always reads it on a half beat instead of the kick for whatever reason for me. Still, I can say that it helps with manual tempo adjust and actually using my ears instead of relying on the sync button, so it's not all that bad lol
These videos are great! I've know that I've been underutilizing my Traktor software, despite being a regular user since Traktor 3 was released. Due to a variety of software issues (mostly PC latency related, none really on Mac), as well as limitation of the S4 hardware, I was losing interest in the Native Instruments line. Today I use a combination of the Audio 6, X1MK2, and F1 with an external mixer - it works well, but can be a hassle sometimes. I wasn't convinced that the S8 was right for me, but your videos are starting to convince me otherwise. It seems they really have put in some thought to making this something where the need to use the PC is minimal, perhaps only for searching in most cases. Thanks for taking the time to put these together. It has renewed my interest in the S8.... Now if the case manufacturers would build something that makes sense instead of shoehorning units into existing form factors. :-)
Hey great video. One question. Is there anyway to do a variable beat grid. I used to use tractor all the time. I'm pretty sure I read the book on be beat gridding and didn't figure out a way how to do this. Such a feature would be totally clutch for live music where the drummer is not always on a perfect synthesized beat. This is been a dream of mine for many many years. I wonder if it is just something I have missed. If there is a way to do this again that would be totally awesome. You're such a feature exist can you make a video? Thanks again man great video!
Unfortunately no, Traktor doesn't let users do any sort of elastic/variable beat gridding. You would have to do it in another program (eg Serato DJ) to achieve this.
Thank you for the great tutorials please can you tell how I can batch process tracks if at all possible through tractor when beat gridding using the tick although you have done a tutorial on this you did mention in your tutorial about batch processing your tracks please will you be kind enough to give me some tips on this loving the traktor programme and your tutorials respect Mark Salter
You're welcome, we're glad that you enjoy them :-) It isn't possible to batch process tracks when beatgridding, you will have to fine tune them manually.
nice and helpful tutorial , especially because i use d2 , but do you have a tip how i can do it with old humize funk drum beats like in serato or is their no function in traktor for it so i have to warp in ableton
Not sure offhand Kevin, sounds frustrating though...Best place to ask such questions is on the Digital DJ Tips Forum (www.digitaldjtips.com/forum), where the whole community can see your issue and hopefully help you out :)
its possible play cdj 400 with traktor software like you playing the traktor vinyl ?playing the musics that are in the laptop with out having to load cds or memory sticks into the cdjs 400?
What's happening when you try? Unfortunately with Traktor there isn't elastic beatgridding, so with older or more funky songs with less rigid/quantised patterns, it will be more difficult
+Pete Horam Sorry, on the Traktor S4, when you keep the shift button pressed, and turn the dial, it fast forwards your movements. Not sure if it works exactly the same on the d2 but worth a try.
You do this in Tractor on your computer. Press the white button, with the beat grid you want to delete. Then press the dustbin, under the queue markers. Then you put a new grid. This function is located next to the dustbin, below the quepoints. There you can choose whether it should be a que or grid. Always put the grid on the first "one".
Love how the song ends just as you hit "lock" - I was startled by such a function, then noticed that it was purely coincidence.
I really appreciate these tutorials.
Thanks!
Brilliant tip Phil, easy to understand and is going to make life allot easier using the S8 :) thanks!
Great series of videos. Nice flow and structure.
I think this is a great function. Is like warping in Ableton...thanks for the video.
Of course, no problem :)

great tutorial.am i right in thinking this can be done on the D2?

If you do it manually it's totally up to you though as you can make it count the "1" on the downbeat easily enough.
Thank you! I had been having issues with this and with Traktor cutting my bpm in half :/
+Von Kiss Glad we could help!
Thanks for an informative video. Can you tell me what stand you are using for your macbook in this video please?
Certainly, that looks like a Magma stand: www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/08/review-video-magma-laptop-stand-2-1/
Excellent video!
Thanks Tomasz!

The latency issues seems to be solved by now (5 years down the line) on Windows with Traktor Pro 3. It was mainly caused by the USB interface.

+Digital DJ Tips Interesting. I didn't know Serato had this ability. Thanks for the reply!
No problem! :)

Hi !!! 👋
My grids are not sync with traktor software on my laptop !!!!
Why ???
Thank you very much 🤙
Hello I've got a problem when I try to correct a bad beat grid... The offset know has absolutely no effect on the track. How can I fix that ?
nice and helpful tutorial , especially because i use d2 , but do you have a tip how i can do it with old humize funk drum beats like in serato or is their no function in traktor for it so i have to warp in ableton
Do you think with this someone could change the beat grid mid-song to accommodate for a change in tempo?
Any idea why my first offset knob does nothing when trying to move the position of the first marker? It isn't locked incase anyone suggests that haha

You're welcome, thanks for watching :)
Great video, thanks.
Boom! Great info!
why am i not allowed to change the beatgrids to some tracks on s8?
What's happening when you try? Unfortunately with Traktor there isn't elastic beatgridding, so with older or more funky songs with less rigid/quantised patterns, it will be more difficult
i can't adjust the beatgrids in the middle of the song if is necesary, but only on few songs
Is there a way to scan through the track faster - seems to take ages to check the end of your beatgrid.
+Pete Horam Keep shift press as you scroll, it should fly you right across.
+Pete Horam Sorry, on the Traktor S4, when you keep the shift button pressed, and turn the dial, it fast forwards your movements. Not sure if it works exactly the same on the d2 but worth a try.
Shift, RTFM.
Thank you!!!
No problem!
Marker still won’t start on the correct “1” how do I shift it in place so I can set the marker??? Someone help

TRACK ID?
It's just a random loop from Loopmasters, not a proper track :)
