All the "traditional" steamers who are trying to be entertaining and engaging with chat (looking at you Cross) don't pay attention and get rinsed and complain saying they didn't do anything or don't understand why it happened.
This. The problem is, few people actually enjoy a stream where the content creators are truly locked in with the game they're playing. It's less engaging. Ironically, this means Forever Winter is probably going to be a hit with the Milsim-slash-Tacticool crowd - players that fully understand how observation and communication are key. See GLID's stream of Ghost Recon Wildlands or Breakpoint, for reference.
To be fair, Outward is a game all about being a normal adventurer and not some cracked out hero, and that game was so good its got a sequel coming soon. Food for thought.
I'm calling it now, Cross is not going to like this game. He probably won't say the game is bad, but nothing I've seen from his streams over the years tells me this is going to be a fun experience for him. The impression I've gotten from all the gameplay and dev videos tells me that this game is truly punishing and you have to be okay with that. I'm gonna be honest and say that I look at how punishing this game seems to be and how it seems like the whole experience is to be stuck in this oppressive environment and struggle for the bare essentials just to be able to to continue to struggle and I wonder if I need therapy for wanting to play that.
The way I see this game working is you play solo when you wanna just have a sneaky chill suspense session of exploring the wasteland. I feel like you play with friends when you wanna try and take on some enemy groups and cause some battlefield chaos. From watching other gameplay, there are characters that are sneakier and there’s also a character that specializes in guns. I hope they add a sniper/long range character to the game because I can see it working well from the solo view of taking enemies out from afar but also from the team view of scoping and spotting from the back to help your teammates navigate the wasteland.
This is basically what the Division dark zone should have been. Or at least what most of us originally thought the Division was supposed to be…a tactical third person looter shooter. Only this doesn’t seem to emphasize too much shooting. With that said. I think that it’s important that they hype and promote this game accurately so it doesn’t end up being like the Division (pitched tactical but ended up just a cover based loot and shoot) where players just weren’t interested after finding out what the game really was.
It's a cool concept that I'm hoping takes shape during the early access. I would like there to be more stealth and evasion equipment. Smoke grenade, noise makers, booby traps, radios to spoof a faction's signal to lead them to the other, etc. An interesting endgame scenario would be to goad the factions' heavy units into fighting each other and then cleaning up and looting the remains before reinforcements pile in.
There are quests and objectives, its not just "loot some dead bodies and leave" The gameplay overview shows a team taking on a mech, so I imagine you will definitely be able to get to a point where you can fight back as a coordinated team
Forever Winter is the most engaging concept for a horror game I've seen in a long-ass time. Like most horror games, you're an ordinary bozo surrounded by countless things far more dangerous than you, but here, you're given the idea that you can fight back. Then you learn that firing your weapon is practically a failure state, as you just woke up every threat in the area, and unlike the enemy, you have no chance of someone showing up to help. "Anti-shooter" is a concept we didn't know we needed until we saw it! Sadly, after months of following this game's development and really looking forward to it, I finally looked at the minimum requirements to run it. Turns out I'll be needing a tech upgrade first instead of picking it up on day 1 of early access like I planned. Damn.
Im glad theirs finaly some pve games releasing like i dont mind killing some other players but every once in a while i just want to play with together with some people you know
Was kinda hyped for this game till i seen actual gameplay. This game is gonna be completely review bombed on launch. Its one of those games where you will need wait atleast another year for the devs to fix the game.
@@SynchroFPS We both know you aint buying this game. Even if you do,you are gonna regret that. From all the gameplay i seen i wouldnt even call this early access, its alpha version at best.
My only qualm with the game (I’ve played myself and expressed my concerns already) is that for such a high emphasis on stealth, there are not enough options to use said stealth. There isn’t any wall hugging, no corner leaning to get a better vantage of the threats around you as well and no way to prone (I could understand not being able to prone with 80lbs of gear on your back, but with an empty pack it should be an option). I didn’t hold any of these things against the game too heavily because overall it was incredibly good at what it’s trying to do although, I will say I hope to see some form of those implementations in the future to further at to the brevity of survival stealth.
As a certified loot goblin this game is appealing to me and I will probably pick it up and try it out to see how it goes plus no enemy players is a plus for my imo so I’m excited to try it
This game is for people who like a slower paced extraction game, and those who enjoy watching AI dismantle each other. Once the animation and logic of the AI is polished it'll be a endless interactable movie for those people.
This game also is in VERY early access. It is nowhere near to being finished. People need to understand that. I personally am extremely excited for this game. People need to remember though you are NOT the main character. You are not him. You will die if you try to be a hero. I don’t think cross will enjoy this game tbh
If they are charging money for the game it is open season for criticism, I will never understand why so many people people rush to defend bad Early Access games with these excuses. The most successful Early Access games are the ones that launch into EA already having a compelling and fun gameplay loop, and they are just missing the content that fills out as development progresses. The number of unfun messes at EA launch that eventually became excellent games is pretty slim.
@@Smathalgoth Giving criticism is fine right, but you've got to do it within the context of what's being presented. So if the game is early access and still in development. The criticism might be: "This part of the game sucks right now, this may ruin the game for you, you might want to check back later and see if the devs fixed it if it's a problem for you", aka, you give the criticism, but you know the game is in a state where a lot of it is *to be expected* so you don't *judge* it too harshly.. yet. Where in a full release game, you might be more scathing about it, because the game is supposed to be finished and in a good state. It's like, you having a house built. You go visit it mid way through the build. You'd be silly if you exploded at the builder because some part of the house isn't built yet, or at the full quality of what a finished build should be because *of course it isn't* it's mid construction (assuming time scales aren't slipping horrendously). But just noticing or pointing out that it's not ready to move in to yet isn't a problem.
@@Smathalgoth Very true. This, hopefully, is of the latter case (as it's been in development for a while and has had closed testing beforehand), where the core is there and it's fun enough to keep the player engaged and accepting for the current shortcomings.
I think there's a big misnomer here by calling this strictly an extraction shooter. I would argue this is more of a survival shooter with extraction elements.
While I agree that the game is all about stealth and being a little guy - enough small guys with relatively sizeable guns can take down one big guy. Let us unlock a single-use RPG and make it feasible to take down one mech (albeit as a group) for ultra-rare loot; for some prestige drip.
You gotta think about it from a threat perspective... You start with almost no threat... but if you start shooting, the warring factions are going to pay attention... If one side wipes out the other in the area you're in, then you as someone carrying a gun are going to be next on the list. So you've really gotta time your engagements and hold your fire unless you can catch an enemy unit alone/cut off, and then gtfo
There are only three kinds of scavs. The quick, the smart, and the dead. Quick players hold W. Smart players sneaky - sneak. Dead players tried to 1v1 the mechs. You don't have to be stealth, if that's the case. Just make sure you don't stop running, even after the coast is clear.
Well originally they said the higher favor you got with a faction. You could eventually hire mech mercenary as bodyguards to help you out. Which give a significant advantage. But its alpha still so i do not know how much is implemented. So looking forward to play this looks amazing and grim😁😶👍
this game is gonna be where your always on edge. You play enough that you get to a good spot, you are feeling confident and think you can take on a few more guys for higher loot and blam, there goes your loot on you. Yes you should be able to fight the mech eventually (solely because the dev vid had players fighting a big boss mech that was hunting them) but its always gonna feel like a man with a tinfoil sword stabbing Mithril armor.
there are other vids of people who were a bit further in the game and had better gear and some of them dropped 30 enemies per run ofc always choosing your battles. I havent seen runs where they killed big mechs tho and i dont think that will be doable for a while but in Q&A sessions i did hear they wanna have boss battles and so. that make me think that such things are indeed in the pipeline.
@@Always.Smarter ok but your in a apocalyptic world and you need water to survive. I love the concept of it. I want to know more about the lore it's very interesting.
Everything about the AI here looks wonky. Pathfinding on uneven terrain (so nearly the entire game environment) looks buggy with enemies getting stuck on stuff or clipping through things, enemies seem to just appear out of nowhere at times, once in combat nothing about the movement of the enemies looks natural or predictable, and you have nonsense like those melee slam attacks killing you from a dozen feet away through cover. Then at one point the guy spawned right in the middle of a whole Cyborg squad and died instantly.
also aren't extraction shooters more pvp based too like are you also gonna have to look out for those higher players too that can take on factions? or is this more like a multiplayer stealth game?
The devs have stated no PvP, not a part of their vision for the game. So at least I can play without getting styled on by sweaty no-lifers. My biggest issue with games like Tarkov, theres so much information gap between me and the other players that I never stood a chance.
This game seems to attempt to ride a line between extraction shooter and survival horror. If they can use that to make an experience that's both unique and fun, I think this game can succeed. That said, AI does look janky, and I remember hearing they weren't ready to release it and only agreed to do early access when enough people asked for it. I'm going to play it either way, but I can foresee a rough launch that it's going to have to recover from.
Cross. This is going to be a situation where your heart rate will be up. Note because of the thrill of the literal fight, but because of the will to survive another day. Stealth is the only way to successfully "beat" this game. The only friends you have in this world are the ones you bring with you. Everyone else either ignores your existence or kills you on sight.
What does "viewer experience" mean here? Watching others play it, for example in streams? That doesn't require owning or even playing the game, which sounds like a commercial disaster for the studio behind it...
This is an Early Access, earlier than what the devs wanted because beta testers begged them to start the Early Access earlier.. The title is going to mislead some people into thinking this is the actual launch, when the devs know and people following this game knows it is still in an incomplete state.
I guess I missed the part where they said it was an extraction shooter game. It looks very cool, I just don’t care for extraction games. I hope the game is great though, it would be something I might play here & there.
So what happens when I figure out the AI, their movement, behaviour? I just keep looting stuff from the ground? I feel like this game's gonna have a short playtime.
its far more strategy and stealth than other looters I think. I feel like you might get like a rocket launcher with one shot that's Able to kill one of the walkers but you probably be on the losing end most of the time
I just hope the passionate team making this realizes that this is going to be a very niche game… I think it looks awesome and I hope it finds a level of success that will keep it afloat and the team happy!
There needs to be some level of power fantasy in the endgame. I love games where when you start off, you're basically helpless, but as you progress, you can return and finally kick ass. Otherwise, this game could end up feeling like "Forever Whimpy"
The giant mechs/robots move too quickly. They're way too big to have that type of limb speed. EVERYONE needs to learn from Pacific Rim 1 vs Pacific Rim 2 lol
Yeah and when you have a progression through the game to make you stronger and being able to take out the enemies, then you just run through the level and bitch that it was to easy because you could take out bigger enemies with ease.
I dont think people know you can not like a game and still recommend it. That is why I don't like the thumbs up or down review. It actually doesn't help game studios with potential, and instead nukes them into the ground. You can not like the mechanics and thus do not enjoy the game, but still recommend it as a game that really should continue to be supported because they are building something great and many others may enjoy it.
Character design is a problem. When everything is bleak, there needs to be something to latch onto, and going with more of a "hero" selection rather than character creation makes that even more important. Looting... I get why they're making it cumbersome, but sitting on my hands and waiting for it to reveal stuff is going to cause my already fried attention span to throw a fit. It is artificially removing the skill ceiling created by swiftly assessing and manipulating the loot UIs. Patrols surrounding you so seamlessly and seeming to pop out of nowhere is going to get old fast, especially when you have few if any tools to mitigate such scenarios.
I think they need to balance the "needs" of weapons to smaller enemies. I should be able to destroy smaller enemies at least. Ie unarmed enemies.. but still be difficult when being swarmed
@@lunak84584this is just one of those games where its going to be super divided. It would be hilarious if it took like 2 years of grinding to get strong enough to afford the artillery to take one of those down 😂 I’m not much of a stealth guy 😂
The point is just survival and expansion of your base/colony. I'm sure at some point you'll have weapons that can give you a "chance" against the larger AI enemies, but this ain't Destiny. You're not a Guardian. Don't expect to be downing mechs like you would a Fallen Walker, heh. Because if at any point it becomes easy to take the enemies down - what is the point then, even? You need that constant pressure and fear to add suspense to your raids to get loot/water for your base to survive.
Yeah tons of people will buy the game because of insanely cool aesthetics without reading or listening what´s being said about the game. And then they will give it negative review because they can´t wun around shoot big robot.
My main problem with extraction shooters is that the "extract" is always a static spot/location with a countdown. Where is the creativity? How about something you have to get started and drive out or you have to catch a train at the right time (hunt showdown). Something other then "stand here for a bit".

Thumbs up for the Outward reference. I can't wait for Outward 2 as well. One of my favorite RPGs in the last decade.
Can’t believe I’m seeing someone mention Outward that game was a hidden gem
What can I say, men of taste I guess.
Yeah, yeah that explains another part of why I am so excited to get curb stomped in this game. Outward is such a gem of a game. So fun with friends.
outward 2 looks like it's got that woke taint all over it.
"I do tend to play on the W key"
Unfortunately this game will get review bombed because of that. Stealth is priority. Watching and waiting
Sounds like Helldivers if you were just a citizen that happened to pick up a gun lmao
It’s almost like that’s the exact character you’re playing as…
And your characters look like Wallace and Gromit rejects
@@Tracker947It is a hellscape. Plastic surgery and makeup aren't priorities.
So Helldivers but you're a ... Helldiver?
not even close lmao
I'm calling it now, Cross is not going to like this game. He probably won't say the game is bad, but nothing I've seen from his streams over the years tells me this is going to be a fun experience for him. The impression I've gotten from all the gameplay and dev videos tells me that this game is truly punishing and you have to be okay with that. I'm gonna be honest and say that I look at how punishing this game seems to be and how it seems like the whole experience is to be stuck in this oppressive environment and struggle for the bare essentials just to be able to to continue to struggle and I wonder if I need therapy for wanting to play that.
He mained Destiny and Runescape so all we know is that he has a passion for sh*tty games
@@colby8104yet you’re here on his channel which is primarily destiny content 😂 make it make sense
Love the art direction, aesthetic and bleakness. Looks hard af
Armored Flesh 6: landwalker
If what cross say about his w key I think he’s gonna hate this game which I think will be too bad
Game is meh
@@lazyvoid7107 it’s extremely early did you play closed beta?
In something like this and its inspiration, you dont have enough time to compete, you have enough just to keep going a little longer.
TH-cam's entry has been considered for the competition you happen to be the winner
There are quests and objectives, its not just "loot some dead bodies and leave"
The gameplay overview shows a team taking on a mech, so I imagine you will definitely be able to get to a point where you can fight back as a coordinated team
TH-cam's entry has been considered for the competition you happen to be the winner
It's releasing in early alpha/beta (not to be confused with early access)... it will be more than 1 year before its officially released my guy.
@@TheDwarfishjoe I hope so because it looks like poop right now.
?? it looks pretty good
yea thats the point of the early access, to help fix the game faster, if you don't want to play a buggy game, don't buy it
@@SynchroFPS We both know you aint buying this game. Even if you do,you are gonna regret that. From all the gameplay i seen i wouldnt even call this early access, its alpha version at best.
This is the kinda game I'd love to see cross play and just sit back, relax , watch and enjoy. Definitely a game to watch vs play for me.
I'm super excited to see what's in store for this. I think with a community to shape it, this game could have an interesting future.
TH-cam's entry has been considered for the competition you happen to be the winner
5:20 “is there a point where you’ll be able to kill them?” NO you just loot more water quicker
I remember the Devs speaking about the Idea of Bossfights
That sounds atrociously lazy and boring
Would love to see you playing this Cross.
Doubt it try playing escape from tarkov on the labs map
Well originally they said the higher favor you got with a faction. You could eventually hire mech mercenary as bodyguards to help you out. Which give a significant advantage. But its alpha still so i do not know how much is implemented. So looking forward to play this looks amazing and grim😁😶👍
This reminds me a lot of The Future War from Terminator. Love the hopeless vibe
Very much terminator salvation vibes!
this game is gonna be where your always on edge.
Grimdark stealth looter is better description. You are not expected to survive.
there are other vids of people who were a bit further in the game and had better gear and some of them dropped 30 enemies per run ofc always choosing your battles. I havent seen runs where they killed big mechs tho and i dont think that will be doable for a while but in Q&A sessions i did hear they wanna have boss battles and so. that make me think that such things are indeed in the pipeline.
Its the same as splinter cell metal gear solid. When stealth game were a thing. Im glad they are bringing it back. Im tired of running and gunning.
those games actually had a fun payoff for the stealth, unlike this game where u just get a cup of dirty water
@@Always.Smarter ok but your in a apocalyptic world and you need water to survive. I love the concept of it. I want to know more about the lore it's very interesting.
@@Always.Smarterat first, I'm sure there's more exciting loot to be found in the mid-late game
Stealth?…IM IN!!
Nothing "wonky" about the AI in that interaction. He panicked and started shooting before he saw what was going on. So the AI attacked him. Hes dumb.

TH-cam's entry has been considered for the competition you happen to be the winner
Dude why you still didn't try Tarkov??
I'm looking forward to it. All about the stealth movement and combat, and not being the strongest. This will definitely be a better with coop.
This looks miserably unfun to me, but it will probably be very popular.
This is an Early Access, earlier than what the devs wanted because beta testers begged them to start the Early Access earlier.. The title is going to mislead some people into thinking this is the actual launch, when the devs know and people following this game knows it is still in an incomplete state.
Didn't realize marathon was coming out so soon
Bro is making callouts to no one when he picks shit up in a stealth game💀
Thanks for the preview but I’ll pass on this one…
I guess I missed the part where they said it was an extraction shooter game. It looks very cool, I just don’t care for extraction games. I hope the game is great though, it would be something I might play here & there.
Also again, Rilo's videos have a ton of detail of the systems.
don't see how can balance this style game for guns ho no stealth lol.... kinda the hole point that its brutal and getting into fights is really bad
So what happens when I figure out the AI, their movement, behaviour?
I just keep looting stuff from the ground?
I feel like this game's gonna have a short playtime.
its far more strategy and stealth than other looters I think. I feel like you might get like a rocket launcher with one shot that's Able to kill one of the walkers but you probably be on the losing end most of the time
Looks like itll be fun to play just to experience it wonder how the long term gameplay will be
I just hope the passionate team making this realizes that this is going to be a very niche game… I think it looks awesome and I hope it finds a level of success that will keep it afloat and the team happy!
I’m interested in this game, not so much to play it as I don’t have the time. But I do hope it turns out well.
Would love to play this if it comes to consoles sometime!
Wanna play this so bad, sadly I’m a console guy.
There needs to be some level of power fantasy in the endgame. I love games where when you start off, you're basically helpless, but as you progress, you can return and finally kick ass. Otherwise, this game could end up feeling like "Forever Whimpy"
Maybe as you build rep you become terminator that would be cool
The giant mechs/robots move too quickly. They're way too big to have that type of limb speed. EVERYONE needs to learn from Pacific Rim 1 vs Pacific Rim 2 lol
Eh still trying to get the extraction shooter i want ik whay i want its on mobile lol just want somone do something similar to it
games wher AI just spawn behind you and kill is whaaaack
Yeah and when you have a progression through the game to make you stronger and being able to take out the enemies, then you just run through the level and bitch that it was to easy because you could take out bigger enemies with ease.
I think this game will appeal to the same type of people that enjoy GTFO. The point is stealth and planning not shooting.
This game would make a great movie
Feels sort of like a Darkest Dungeon shooter.
It's combat survival horror
TH-cam's entry has been considered for the competition you happen to be the winner
This game looks pretty cool imo. Can't wait to give it a try.
Making a terminator world and u cant kill shit is horrible idea.
a game this punishing cannot have jank, so its misery: the game, i will pass.

It looks interesting but also looks super janky. Gonna wait for a few updates I think
I think they need to balance the "needs" of weapons to smaller enemies. I should be able to destroy smaller enemies at least. Ie unarmed enemies.. but still be difficult when being swarmed

Check out Rozkil videos, shows what the gameplay is like once skilled up.
Yeah tons of people will buy the game because of insanely cool aesthetics without reading or listening what´s being said about the game. And then they will give it negative review because they can´t wun around shoot big robot.
The game is much more GTFO but with loot from what I see. More emphasis on being quiet and not engaging when you can.

the concept is cool but if theres no way to get enough gear to fight back then its going to get boring really fast
My main problem with extraction shooters is that the "extract" is always a static spot/location with a countdown. Where is the creativity? How about something you have to get started and drive out or you have to catch a train at the right time (hunt showdown). Something other then "stand here for a bit".
Not my cup of tea, there must be more emphasis on the settlement I reckon.
