Here in Australia our native aboriginal people have used controlled fire burns for thousands of years to control wildfires caused by lightning it’s a wonderful management tool and a lot easier on you and your wonderful little tractor Kabota should be sponsoring you for all the wonderful advertising
When wisteria grows on a pergola or an arbor, it's beautiful. When it escapes and gets out of control and wraps up everything in its path with those huge vines, it looks like something out of a horror movie.
Looking good...can't wait to see it when it's all cleared away...so happy things are coming together for you...keep up the great work you are doing Robert...
The controlled burns should really help your wildflowers both already there and all of the Prairie Moon native seeds. I can't wait to see it all take off, grow and bloom. 👍👍😊
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Good job on the added controlled burns! You have made so much progress! Do you have a tiller attachment for your tractor? You might lightly till where the privot sprouts and wisteria runners are growing to kill roots and underground parts of plants that may still be growing to completely kill them.
and then the rain came..Tonight 17th, we have a hard freeze coming in. Wow mom nature sure is something, she is hanging onto that "burnt" tree with everything in her lol...boy its looking so good..when the time comes you need to send out the drone. Hiiii Blue, you be careful where ya walk. To late but a big hi to Mr Dan. I look forward to the next burn.
I can hear the screams all the way up here in Canada, burn baby burn. Step by step, it's coming along. Can't wait to see what that looks like come summer.
Hi Robert, just began watching your videos, great work. Get with your neighbor on that giant mother wisteria growing on his tree. If ok’d chainsaw across that vine at 12 inches from the ground then another 12” further up. Remove this middle piece and place salt on the bottom cut. The salt will be absorbed throughout the roots and eventually die. Good luck my Friend. Great videos!
Around 31, when you were pushing and mowing, there was the end of a tree branch hanging down so that it looked like something dancing on the lawn. But maybe it wasn't a tree branch but a happy ghost. Look and see what you think.
That Kuboda is worth its weight in gold. Have you kept track of the hours you have spent getting the Byrd farm in shape. Do you get to spend time with your family.
Were you able to get rid of that huge wisteria vine that borders the horse pasture that you thought may have been what caused all the wisteria on your property? Thanks!
The MOTHER Wisteria, is on the neighbors property, and so Robert can NOT cut any of it. so he will just have to control what it does, concerning HIS property, unitl the Neighbor, address it on their property.
Robert we truly do love your videos and your obvious love of history. We always watch to see what you are tackling on the farm. Can we please ask one little question? What is going on with your hair?😂😂😂
Is that a smoked sausage biscuit Sir Robert, Makin me hungry even after I just ate bfast. Always rember my grandfather & other farmers doing controlled burns every yr in pine forest in N. Ga.,
Saw a few blooms. Always keep it cut back. After it blooms you just get out of there Cut back. The only way to control. Taken out poison ivy two. Give Blue a kiss from me.I love dogs.
A lot of burning accomplished! So many times, as you pointed out, those large wisteria vines wrapped around the trees I wanted to reach in and cut them off the trees!😢
Vast improvement over the past six months. To help with your burn use a lawn weed sprayer with diesel fuel to help burn the difficult areas. It also helps burn in the direction you want it to go and some of the vines climbing above ground. looking good.
That would be a waste of good pesticide, because pesticide is for killing pests like bugs. Herbicide however, now that would definitely kill out some vegetation, especially if he used the correct type.
Be careful with that barbed wire. My uncle lost an eye from that stuff. Have a pair of safety glasses stored on your tractor. It's really going to be a beautiful piece of land. You've really come a long way. Nice job!
Speaking of broken wisteria cutters, where’s the Deuce and a Half?, I keep expecting to see it as you work your way towards the back pasture!. Inquiring minds need to know where it is!!!!, don’t make me do the tortured wisteria scream by telling us it’s gone!!! 😱
My Dad remembers as a kid, watching some older farmers put a big log across the edge of a field and set the log on fire. Then through the night they would slowly roll the burning log across the field to kill off weed seed. That would be an interesting thing to witness.
Would it be possible to burn the real thick thick part of the wysteria forest? Just make reeeaaally solid fire lines around it and just let her rip? Since they don't seem to burn that aggressively, yet it kills the plant so I reckon it would be a solid game plan to burn it, although would probably ask a couple neighbours to come help when you actually do it just so it doesn't go out of control
The farm is looking really good. Do you know most equipment rental stores rent excavators for a weekend or an entire week+? Might be useful at barn build time or digging out the swamp. ha!
This is so satisfying to watch. I hope your neighbour will let you cut that mother trunk of wisteria you showed a while ago. Make a live video out of that if you get permission to cut it! Great job Robert!
I'm slowly getting my bearings. About once a year, I go back to the walk-a-bout that you & Cody & Brian took in January 2019 when everything was dormant & thick, to see if I can relate to the current progress & hard work you're putting in to this property.---Where is the field that held the cattle? Is that the reason for lack of wisteria??
Robert,You probably already know but you’re gonna have to kill those roots below ground. They are gonna sucker out and come back up, so now that you have the ground cleared good,go around and find the main root system and cut it and dawb it with diesel, gas oil mix, or Roundup. It will kill all the roots.
I had to go back and look at the title again. It brought back memories. I still remember the day I got onto the school bus after New Years, and my friend told me he had died.

Hi Robert... Create your own wind with A Leaf Blower and also it really works great you direct the fire where you want it.

Just like the Phoenix rising from the ashes and so is The Old Byrd Farm.🤗
Glad to see the wisteria go away! You’re doing a great job Robert!
You need to make a shirt..." If you listen closely , you can hear the wisteria scream." ❤😂
It's all looking so much better, that green grass is magnificent!
That wisteria is so terrible. Thanks for getting rid of it. God bless.
It is going to look fabulous this spring!

Just wonderful work. Looking beautiful and reminds me of home in southern Georgia. Thank you for sharing,
Great Robert, you don't want it to take over again.
I can smell the leaves burning from here! Love that smell!
Blue stays right with you. He is such a sweet dog. Too bad there isn’t a seat for him on your tractor.

I thought, "a video full of burning???" Then I found myself at the end having watched the whole thing. Lol... God stuff!
Haha thanks!

I saw that, too, but then realized it was Robert and Baloo going at full speed on the video.
That Kuboda is worth its weight in gold. Have you kept track of the hours you have spent getting the Byrd farm in shape. Do you get to spend time with your family.
Beautifully long video. I really enjoyed the burn. Thanks Robert.
I am here in Rome Ga. Working. I’m from Ohio and watch your utube. Wistera is bluming now I see what you mean. It is pretty
Blue is such a good boy. You're doing a great job on these controlled burns. Take care

I live in California. Watching you burn brush makes me nervous.
Different environments
Looks so amazing.
"It crossed over the wisteria battlegrounds"....too funny!!
funny, I really enjoyed this! Just the right content to watch for winding down after a busy 10hour shift.

Burning leaves smells incredible! It also, reminds me of my Dad and us raking leaves when I was a kid.

Spring is sprung, the grass is ris; I wonder where the Wisteria is?
Looking good at the campground. I wonder if growing rye grass would keep things nice

I think you need a pair of forks for the tractor like Aaron has.
My Dad remembers as a kid, watching some older farmers put a big log across the edge of a field and set the log on fire. Then through the night they would slowly roll the burning log across the field to kill off weed seed. That would be an interesting thing to witness.
Yea !!! Burn that stuff so good to see Scott every thing is so pretty and this is the best way to go😊😊😊😊
Great job Robert💙
Love 5gese outside yardwork videos.

Those big around wisteria like the twisted one Dan was standing by needs some scout water(gasoline)
It's looking good
Did your neighbor give you permission to cut down the mother plant?
No yet
Great job. This makes a big difference!❤
when are you going to get goats to keep the land clear?
Have you tried a forester mulcher to assist taking them out?
I see a great community service opportunity for a scouting group.....
The farm is looking really good. Do you know most equipment rental stores rent excavators for a weekend or an entire week+? Might be useful at barn build time or digging out the swamp. ha!

You are doing such awesome job 🍀🐣☘️
Robert, I wish you would use your chain saw more, cutting the vines loose from the ground and twist them up in a pile and let us watch them burn.

Robert do you have a torch burner that hooks up to a 20#lp tank? He loves to use it for burning piles!!
I'm sure you have said at some time but I am wondering how many acres do you have in the Ole Byrd Farm !?!???
I think he said 11 acres

It is getting to look so beautiful on the Old Bird Farm……..
could you put a trench in from the swamp down to the stream?
Setting back fires up wind works also as a fire break
Won't the chickens eat the wisteria if you moved them around to different areas?
Great video
Good stuff!!! 👍👍👍
I sure hope there is a fire station near the Old Byrd Farm ….😀
