- We had no choice, we needed to change our life 😁 - Completely. We'd escaped the rat race a few years ago and now everything had to change again
Time to live a simpler life and be in more control of the everyday stuff.
Welcome to our first year trying to build a little self-sufficient homestead above the snowline. This is where we, Jason & Yvonne, tell the story of how we bought an off grid abandoned farm in the North of Scotland and attempt to bring it back to life again to live a simpler life and be in more control of the everyday stuff.
The reason? well it all started with a cup of tea with a farmer, during which we ended up adopting a small flock of orphan lambs.
It wasn’t exactly planned but we were determined to look after them and give them long and happy lives. We didn’t own any land for them to live on, so we needed a plan.
After a long search we finally had an amazing opportunity to buy a disused smallholding on top of a hill in the North of Scotland. Our little flock moved in and so our journey to make it liveable began.
Our lives have changed over the last few years - more through chance events than any grand plan. Moving to this abandoned farm in the North of Scotland is our next step on a completely unplanned adventure. We doing everything we can to enjoy the passage of time. We're no spring chickens I'm 50, so not necessarily the wise move. But if we can do it anyone can. Join us (Jason & Yvonne) on our journey towards a self-sufficient, debt free life.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 💕😊
Thank you for the kind words they are most appreciated :-)
The friends in New Zealand miss you! Looks like things are really coming together!
You guys are awesome :-)
What a lovely video! Best of luck in your new place, and I look forward to following your videos and your adventures. Loved the little lambs, and seeing the wonderful community spirit up there 😍. Fantastic.
You are right it’s a really supportive community and has helped us find our way in the world of farming. It’s so lovely that you’ve used your precious time to watch our vlogs it does mean a lot to us. As you’ll know from our other channel our little flock mean the world to us so much so we’d do anything to ensure their health and happiness. Even if that meant changing our lives completely (again). If you have any feedback on the vlogs it’s always appreciated and if there is anything you’d like to see on this channel please let me. Know :-)
@@ForgottenHomestead Absolutely lovely videos - some of the best I've seen on TH-cam - beautifully and artistically made, and the two of you are clearly very lovely and thoughtful, kind people. Am sure your new channel will take off! Please keep making videos 😃 Best to you both 🌺
@@ForgottenHomestead Really loving the new vlogs, and how wonderful that you have found such a great place for yourselves and your dear sheep to put down roots. I really admire your courage and determination. What hard work you've put in. Well done to you both!
@@HKTeacup It's been a hard journey getting to this point with some very deep lows as well as making everything happen so quickly. So much so it was almost impossible to launch the vlogs of our transition over on the other channel. I'd made a number of them but just could not find the time to get them ready to launch. I think there were so many emotions flying around in my head. But I'm now going to start publishing them so I can tell the whole story - If that makes sense.
@@HKTeacup If you are ever heading to Scotland and want to meet the sheep please feel free to me know.
Great video, and super interested in seeing more. We have bought a plot in caithness and are wanting to be completely off grid.
Hi there and a big thanks for taking the time to watch our first video. It’s really appreciated. It’s been a year off grid and we’ve learnt so much. I’ll make sure I produce a video just focusing on off grid power and the system we’ve setup - the good, the bad and the expensive mistakes
The only reason I'm commenting is at the end of vid you point out your dead if it goes wrong.welcome to scotland I'm in caithness doing exact same thing same issues same weather same housing and yes I am unshaven like you.and if it goes wrong wife will kill me lol.if your going to post more videos il be watching
Hi Derrick. Nice to "virtually" meet you. Thanks for taking the time to watch, it's really appreciated as is your comment. The next video is in production and I hope to upload it on Wednesday - Fingers crossed. Great to know you're going through the same interesting challenges, strength in numbers :-)
