Happiness Looks Like This In Rural Scotland
มุมมอง 860หลายเดือนก่อน
When our little herd of Highland cows recently arrived on the farm from Nothlana Valais Black Nose, Barra’s best friend, Skye, stayed behind. So we asked if Skye, their favourite, could come and live with us as well and we were delighted they said yes. Today was the day and it was the happiest of reunions!! This is why we escaped the rat race a few years ago. We had no idea we'd end up here but...

We intend to enjoy the journey in this new life we’re building on the smallholding, not rush through it, so that means changing the way we do things. We try to find a solution that means we can slow things down, enjoy the day, and worry less about where we are going and more about where we are Our second day of the tree planting challenge on our Off Grid and Forgotten Homestead Continues. Trees Make All The Difference On The Farm?
มุมมอง 173หลายเดือนก่อน
We're in our 50s - so no spring chickens. But sometimes you just have to get on with it because change is a direction not a destination. We'd escaped the rat race a few years ago and now everything had to change again and with that change comes the need to learn a whole new set of skills. Plant 3000 Trees in 48Hrs? We've been given a mix of trees; Oak, Spruce, Pine, Hawthorn, Willow and Cherry ...

We had no choice, we needed to change our life 😁 - Completely. We'd escaped the rat race a few years ago and now everything had to change again Time to live a simpler life and be in more control of the everyday stuff. Welcome to our first year trying to build a little self-sufficient homestead above the snowline. This is where we, Jason & Yvonne, tell the story of how we bought an off grid aban...
That’s so majestic. Amazing what you’re achieving 👏👏👌
Thanks. Your comment is really appreciated. :-) Really appreciated you giving up your time to watch our little channel.
I really like the thinking process and i will be following your farm life
Miss big thinking with you guys!
And board meetings :-)
Beautiful. We all need to escape the demands of city life -- and of those who are on a very different path. 💟
It’s amazed me how a simple decision can completely change everything in so many ways :-)
I love how your sheep come running over for cuddles and scratches. Such happy animals! Another lovely video, so glad I found your channel 😃🙏
Even bigger smiles over here :-). Thank you for making our day.
Another beautifully-made video! And very thoughtful. Really enjoyed it, thank you for posting.
Thanks for the lovely feedback. You’ve put a smile on both our faces :-)
What a lovely video! Best of luck in your new place, and I look forward to following your videos and your adventures. Loved the little lambs, and seeing the wonderful community spirit up there 😍. Fantastic.
You are right it’s a really supportive community and has helped us find our way in the world of farming. It’s so lovely that you’ve used your precious time to watch our vlogs it does mean a lot to us. As you’ll know from our other channel our little flock mean the world to us so much so we’d do anything to ensure their health and happiness. Even if that meant changing our lives completely (again). If you have any feedback on the vlogs it’s always appreciated and if there is anything you’d like to see on this channel please let me. Know :-)
@@ForgottenHomestead Absolutely lovely videos - some of the best I've seen on TH-cam - beautifully and artistically made, and the two of you are clearly very lovely and thoughtful, kind people. Am sure your new channel will take off! Please keep making videos 😃 Best to you both 🌺
@@ForgottenHomestead Really loving the new vlogs, and how wonderful that you have found such a great place for yourselves and your dear sheep to put down roots. I really admire your courage and determination. What hard work you've put in. Well done to you both!
@@HKTeacup It's been a hard journey getting to this point with some very deep lows as well as making everything happen so quickly. So much so it was almost impossible to launch the vlogs of our transition over on the other channel. I'd made a number of them but just could not find the time to get them ready to launch. I think there were so many emotions flying around in my head. But I'm now going to start publishing them so I can tell the whole story - If that makes sense.
@@HKTeacup If you are ever heading to Scotland and want to meet the sheep please feel free to me know.
So lovely to find you guys on TH-cam again! 😃 I previously watched your other channel, and it's great to see you're back. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I need to catch up with the other videos here now - are you still in Tiree? Best wishes!
Hi HK awesome that you’ve found our new channel. I’ll be posting more over on the other channel as well as a way of catching everyone up. It’s just been crazy so we’ve only just got ourselves the time and space to start posting again.
@@ForgottenHomestead Great that you're settled in a lovely new place! 🙏♥
@@HKTeacup I think there was so much momentum to make things happen - possibly at the worst time of year - it's carried on through given a sense of "We Can" I can't tell you have lovely it feels to have the sheep in their forever home and a place we have full control over. I'm sure it will make us very poor but it's worth every penny. :-)
Successful haircut/shearing! Well done Yvonne. Takes minutes off his age. 😮
🤣 Thanks I feel 50 again. Oh I am 50.
Successful sheep movement! I liked the in-tractor footage, it felt like the original Star Trek when they were under attack! Keep the videos coming!
Morning. It felt like being under attack :-). I could not believe the sheep and cows - for the first time ever - did what they should have. I thought you’d be watching crazy Jason and Yvonne chasing various animals around the wrong fields - which is usually the case :-). We both hope you and the family had a lovely weekend. :-)
Thanks for watching our vlog on the Forgotten Homestead! If you enjoyed it please do give it a subscribe, feel free to like and hit the bell to be notified when the next adventure is uploaded. We really appreciate you taking the time joining us on our journey as first time farmers building an off grid life
Love it!
Thanks DV - So happy to have a happy Herd or as the correct term "Fold of Highlands" Hope all is well over on the other side of the planet.
This is a fantastic video! The reunion was such a happy moment, a great reminder of one of the reasons why we homestead.
It was an amazing moment. A really special thing to witness. We feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to have them join us on our journey.
Wow, really lovely video and such hard work. What is the link for your beannies? I do love a good hat :)
Hi Irene. Thanks so much for the very kind words the encouragement and support is really appreciated. We're in the process setting up a new website for the hats made here on the farm but in the mean time please feel free to head over to www.welan.co.uk that's where the journey, we are now on, started. But there is more about that in the next vlog going up this weekend :-)
This time is yours, the paper is free, So enjoy yourself, there is no fee. It said that on the back of my grans toilet door! Always stuck with me! Sometimes you’ve just gotta take a minute. 😊
Totally agree. Wise words from the WC.
Nice reminder to remember the 'Why?' in life!
It's very easy to forget. I hope we cut the 12 hour timeframe down for the next epiphany. :-) Hope all is well in the back of beyond.
Amazing ... 🦋👍🏻🌹 Your photography is incredible.
Thanks for the amazing feedback. With each post we try to improve just a little. It’s going to be a long process but very enjoyable. Everyday is a school day :-)
It's so refreshing to see someone local going down the off grid route ! love what you are doing & totally envious of your woodlands
Hi and thanks for the support it's really appreciated. The existing woods have inspired us to keep expanding the trees across the entire homestead.
How old are the sheep in this video? Really love seeing what you are up to. The orchard is going to look amazing when it grows in a bit!
Hi Flo thanks for watching the second instalment, especially when everyone is so busy with their own lives. The flock are all different ages, but equally lovely :-)
Thanks for watching our first TH-cam video on the Forgotten Homestead! If you enjoyed it please do give it a like and subscribe and hit the bell to be notified when our next video comes out.
Loving the Orchard! Have you thought about Bees too?
Bees are absolutely on the list. Great minds think alike
Great video, and super interested in seeing more. We have bought a plot in caithness and are wanting to be completely off grid.
Hi there and a big thanks for taking the time to watch our first video. It’s really appreciated. It’s been a year off grid and we’ve learnt so much. I’ll make sure I produce a video just focusing on off grid power and the system we’ve setup - the good, the bad and the expensive mistakes
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 💕😊
Thank you for the kind words they are most appreciated :-)
The only reason I'm commenting is at the end of vid you point out your dead if it goes wrong.welcome to scotland I'm in caithness doing exact same thing same issues same weather same housing and yes I am unshaven like you.and if it goes wrong wife will kill me lol.if your going to post more videos il be watching
