I love the waiter who said, “I’m glad I didn’t gossip about you”😂
Me too!!
Lol too funny😆
Why would you gossip about her ?
@@debrasloan5541 Women love to gossip. its in their nature.
thats what they do when someone not the same color as them you ever been to a nail salon or gt your feet done and chinese or any asain spot they guess is they dont know they lanugage so they talk trash bout you its crazt fr @@debrasloan5541
It's so amazing that a foreign women can speak cantonese so fluently, cantonese is in fact one of the hardest languages to learn and yet she still learn it so well
But S Fujian. like Hokkien, Teochew
Hainan. etc. are harder. but especially hardest to learn are N Fujian and E Fujian, as in provincial capital of
Fuzhou/Hujiu.
@@tymanung6382 I've never heard of these languages before. Plus I also think these languages is a dying language because they aren't as popular as mandarin and cantonese
@@ninjapirate123 they are definitely dying unfortunately, as with most Chinese languages that aren't Mandarin, particularly in the South (Hokkien, Teochew, Fuzhounese, Hakka, etc). Aside from dying naturally, there have also been a number of government policies throughout Asia that have encouraged Mandarin as opposed to any of the other Chinese languages. Cantonese is definitely one of the bigger Chinese languages though, and despite having a decline in the number of speakers, is still going to be around for a while.
It is little harder, but the way it sounds in speaking it makes me love it more than mandarin Chinese.
@@hanznathanpo Yes because Cantonese is the official language of Hong Kong
You would blow my mind. I'm ethnically Cantonese and my skills in the mother tongue are disgraceful. Hearing you speak better than most native speakers is incredible
Cantonese are hard to learn if you're not speaking it since a child. Don't blame yourself for it.
"Better than most"?
@@jianyuyj2016what is there to question?
Better than most native speakers??? She speaks with a clear foreign accent.
@@user-re3cb8vk5c so do I
You carry an accent, but you speak very fluently and clearly. Don't sell yourself short. Cantonese is considered very hard to learn if your first language is English. You've mastered it very well, much better than a lot of people would.
Everyone who speaks has an accent, even you. It's part of our identity. You're referring to a native vs non-native accent.
@@chiaraippoliti Very true. Of course she will have a non-native accent if she didn't grow up in Hong Kong--that is irrelevant. What is relevant is that she is able to communicate in Cantonese. What is even more impressive is that she invested the time to learn Cantonese (a dying language) vs. just Mandarin.
@@chiaraippolitiI think that's what OP meant...
@@chiaraippolitithey didn’t say anything was bad.
@@chiaraippolitiso pedantic🤦♂️. That's obviously what the person meant
As a native Cantonese speaker from Hong Kong ….I can say your Cantonese is better than mine ! Well done to you.
haha that's nice of you to say :)
@@chillbro2275That’s what Cantonese people say when they are being polite. 😄
Cantonese is a very difficult chinese dialect for even most chinese people. Yet you breeze thru it like a local. You rock, girl!!!
Yeah. I remember I inquired about some Cantonese (like how to say something) to a couple of cool coworkers who spoke Cantonese and they were like "...mmm...it's hard. Just learn Mandarin" hahaha, i completely understand, it'd be hard to teach me how to make those sounds.
i grew up speaking/hearing cantonese. Didn't even realize it is so hard. I guess this was why I had some trouble learning english, since I was literally speaking two other Chinese languages at home at the time.....
The group of three girls. The one girl actually bowed, like basically saying "mad respect" Chinese, and Eastern culture in general is so endearing
9:37 LOL, i love how ur friend at the end was staring blankly, but when you said paypal she was pointing to the description, thats a real friend right there.
LMAO me too
LOL🤣🤣I love her
@@Guresu Does she know a little Canto?
i love how their faces just glow when they realise, its not easy learning cantonese
The moment those teenage girls said they were born in London I knew that when she switched to Cantonese they were going to be like "Your Cantonese is better than mine!" 🫠 I am second gen Polish, I speak it and read it, but I know my skills are embarrassing sometimes!
You could tell even behind the mask both of those guys were blushing after you started speaking Cantonese to them. So cute!
I don't know how good your Cantonese is, but you have a charming smile which is a universal language! 👍
My cousin speaks Mandarin and 4 other languages. Her husband as well. They are bringing their children up as polyglots as well. Being Black, she surprises people too!
What I found most impressive about your Cantonese is at 4:01 to 4:06 you are able to tell when to use 唔該vs 多謝. They are both translated to Thank You in English but there’s a subtle difference in Cantonese (not in Mandarin though), it’s very hard to explain to people what the difference is if they are not native Cantonese speakers
The first is being thankful for an action while the second is being thankful for a tangible gift.
@@komloh2752 That’s mostly true, but notice at 4:05 in the video Grace (correctly) said 多謝 when the guy complimented her Cantonese, that’s not a tangible gift, is it?
@@benleung6331 Yeah if you said 唔該 there it could make you sound arrogant like you were expecting the compliment or that you deserve the praise (which she does! but Chinese culture generally values modesty).
@@yesfinallygot1 No, she didn't say "ng koi' in return to a compliment. Grace amazingly and accurately said "dor tse" which is a 100% local and appropriate response, linguistically, pragmatically and culturally!
@@SO-rq3pm Yeah I know she correctly said do1 ze6. I'm agreeing with @benleung and adding some context for @komloh why do1 ze6 is more appropriate there. Thanks for your reply, i think we're all on the same page!
It's great that you ask people's permission before filming.
I wish more TH-camrs were like you!
It should be that way since it is a legal requirement
@@honeststraightforward1485 it's not a legal requirement if they're in public. The gray area is when people are monetizing public footage of people without they're permission because those ppl haven't been compensated for their appearance.
@ldydanielle There's some public areas that are, in fact, private owned, such as restaurants, hotels, pubs, shopping malls, and football grounds. And finally, green spaces that are privately owned but have public access. People need to be careful before talking pictures.
@@honeststraightforward1485 there aren't public areas that are privately owned that in itself doesn't even make sense, all of the places you mentioned are open to the public but since it's privately owned they reserve the right to ask you to leave etc. If I'm on a public sidewalk I have the right to film what I want including your private establishment. You need to educate yourself there's auditors all on YT who make videos for this very reason to see if there rights will be violated.
@ldydanielle seriously? You come, film, or take pictures of my private establishment without my permission and see what happens? On the side walk? Educate yourself woman.
It's always good to see more people can speak Cantonese. Don't let some people kill this beautiful language.
What a cool girl, she has a gift for languages, and a warm , bubbly personality, and a gorgeous smile!
Just found this, you speak GREAT Cantonese! Any native speaker could understand you. Keep going girl !!!
Grace 你真係好叻呀!講得真係好道地 廣東話最難唔係讀音而係講到香港人傾計的尾音同語氣👍🏻👍🏻身為香港人的我。好感激你宣傳廣東話 👏🏻👏🏻so proud of you

Grace, you’re amazing! I know I’ve been watching you speak Cantonese many times already but I still feel so amazed by your nice pronunciation! Thank you, thank you for your appreciation to Cantonese. Being a HKger I feel so touched indeed!
You speak Cantonese like a person who was born and raised in Hong Kong. You have amazing language skills!
Amazing! Now we see people from all over the world learning and speaking English but we hardly see any English native speakers learning or speaking another language so this is so refreshing!
It’s amazing how language can bring people together : )
This is so heartwarming. Cantonese is so difficult to learn and I can’t believe you put so much effort into learning it. Thank you!!
You're skin is amazing! You're gorgeous! Sis you speak Cantonese as if it was your native tongue! It's a hard language to learn. You Rock to the 7th power!!!! 🙌💃🙌👏❤
That's impressive. There's a lot of British born Chinese Cantonese speakers who can't speak it as well as you do. Cantonese is really difficult to get the tones exact but you are really good.
Grace this is very impressive
Superb pronunciation for a non-native Cantonese speaker! You got the tone perfectly. Best one I've heard ever.
GIRL IM ACTUALLT SHOOK HOW CAN YOU SPEAK SO WELL😭😭😭😭
I am surprised by your Cantonese!! Thanks for appreciating Hong Kong culture and language.
I was born in Vancouver, Canada and grew up speaking Cantonese. Yours is much better than mine. You have a far more expansive vocabulary.
3:46 he was so excited to talk about all the food he ate omg it warmed my heart
I’m smiling all the way! I love seeing Hong Konger in London. I love seeing you speaking my language! Thanks Grace!
Really appreciate your love for our language. It’s much older than Mandarin actually.
The first time I had a transit in Hong Kong Airport in the 80s on my very first flight as a child in my life, I came across a black family. It was also my first time to see any black person in my life. We were taking the bus (there were no air bridges or jet bridges then) from the plane to the terminal. The family were conversing among themselves in Cantonese. I tried to learn from my dad's cassette tapes but, didn't really understand it. It had its own book to go along with the tapes. I still marvel at that black family speaking in the bus at the Hong Kong Airport so many decades ago. I've never experienced this again even living here in Canada. Nowadays, I transit in Japan.
It's really awesome to hear a foreigner to speak my natvie language so well! Many people still didn't know that Cantonese can be ancient, classical (try to recite some classical poems by Cantonese) and it can be modern as well, it's the real deal!
You speak better Cantonese than me and I'm first generation! 😅 Cantonese is such a difficult language to learn and it's a dying language. Watching you speak with so much skill and modesty and sweetness brought me so much joy! I hope you keep making videos! 🫶🏼
Cantonese is one of my favorite languages to hear. I’m Thai and I can hear the influence it has on our language. It’s so so sad that it’s disappearing. I hope it can be truly preserved for many more generations. Excellent job learning such a hard language!♥️
This is amazing! Some people just have the gift for languages and Grace is definitely blessed with it! ❤ It's also so heartwarming when people cross borders (linguistic, cultural, etc.) and we get to see how perceived differences shouldn't have to set us apart. A warm smile means the same no matter what culture you're from. I love this so much! ❤❤❤
But polyglot multiple languages experts

This is so wholesome and inspiring! My mom will definitely roast my cantonese if she ever sees this video
Amazing! As a Mandarin speaker who had been in Hong Kong for half a year and in Guangzhou for several years, I can understand people speaking Cantonese but I'm not able to speak with them too in Cantonese even these days. You are a genius!
Mandarin sounds phonetics have far fewer syllable end consonants, but far
more syllable beginning consonants.
It also has far fewer tones than, all.other.
My jaw just dropped when I heard your cantonese! It’s so much better than mine.. I’m so ashamed of myself! 😭
You are amazing! Non-Chinese people speaking Mandarin is all over TH-cam but speaking a different dialect is very, very impressive.
Cantonese is a separate language not dialect

Amazing, inspiring, fantastic, encouraging, friendly and you speak Mandarin and Cantonese! I wish you could meet my daughter who is learning Korean. I'm sure you could swap notes on learning. God bless 🙏🏾
Wow amazing! Cantonese is my second language, my mother is from HK. You speak it better than me! I don’t get to use my Cantonese enough.
Well done for working so hard on it.
Inspiring, they really appreciate it when you speak their language..😁😍
Amazing.....breaking the fourth wall with Cantonese....when you put a face to the language it makes it more personable...amazing work
I was told Cantonese is one of the hardest language to learn.
I’m so glad that you’ve nailed it.
Awesome job!! Keep it up!!!
I have always wanted to learn Cantonese so bad as many of my friends speak it 😢 this has inspired me to start!!!
Omg it’s embarrassing how you speak Cantonese better than me and I was raised in a Mandarin/Cantonese household
Thank you for trying and speaking Cantonese. You speak better than my siblings and sons. Continue speakjng with more people regularly and soon your Cantonese will be better than mine.
As a British Born Chinese born and raised in London, i absolutely applaud you! Thank you for this awesome vid! Cantonese all the way :p

Your accent is so good, and clearly it’s good enough to cut through any doubt by a listener in determining which language your are speaking!
I love this video on how you surprise everyone on your fluent Cantonese that you learned online. The first guy just responded to you without alarm was great n he complemented you.
The only thing is I wished you were able to go get dim sum with the 3 girls. I love egg tarts too.

So COOOL!!! :D :D Enjoyed you and all the reactions. Especially the waiter "Oh Thank God i didn't gossip about you"
Wow! amazing you learned Cantonese online! You are very gifted!
I love this, it's great seeing barriers broken down the instant you swap to someone's native tongue. I'm from UK myself and it's very easy to fall for the reserved nature most tend to adopt here, so seeing that being cut down to become simply humans talking and laughing together is absolutely beautiful. I think what you do has more impact than you perhaps realize. Thank you for being amazing!
You’ve got such a great positive energy!
I’m so impressed. Keep learning!
This is beautiful! Making friends with everyone! I love it!
