@frankieslight I just stumbled upon this video and wanted to tell you that I think your family and story are AWESOME and so inspiring! I learned German when I was in high school (I was in an incredibly immersive program and became fluent) and then I taught myself Hebrew as an adult, so I know how challenging it is to learn a whole new alphabet- let alone a new language!- on your own!! I have SO MUCH respect for you to not only commit to teaching YOURSELF Chinese -BOTH Mandarin AND Cantonese 😱🤯- but to ALSO have the courage to go out and practice it with native speakers! I’m incredibly inspired by you and I feel very grateful to have found your channel, and this video in particular! You’ve given me the courage (and the little nudge that I needed 😉) to get over myself and my fear of embarrassment and just go for it, and practice speaking my foreign languages when the opportunities arise!! Thank you so much for your courage and for sharing your stories and experiences!! I hope you get only positive feedback and ALL of the honor and recognition you deserve (and I don’t just mean the fish tacos 😉)! I wish you and yours all the best, every happiness, and much success!!

About the tone, the thing is in some languages they way they sound may seem like they are talking bad but it’s the COMPLETE opposite. Amerie overheard the Korean staff talking shit about the all-black customers, herself included (they didn't know she was also Korean & knew the language), in Korean and checked them in said language, telling them how disrespectful & nasty they were being talking about their customers in a language they didn't understand while having a store in their neighborhood & taking their money.
