I'm an old, new artist working hard on creating a practice after decades of random classes and dabbling. As I looked for a TH-cam "mentor" of sorts, your work, locations, great personal style, and kind nature really drew me in. I've been binge watching these videos for most of a week now, learning hard.
    A few moments ago,
the great logic in your overall work process suddenly coalesced in my brain. What an "A-HA" moment! I saw that true randomness is not my friend, and sketchbooks are an essential developmental & learning tool, not a glorified doodle pad.
You asked at the end of this video if we find your content helpful. I absolutely do. Creating a TH-cam channel is a lot. 🙂 Thank you for making the effort.

Oh, enjoyed this video with your trip to Hastings and those lovely tall black fishing buildings! As I watched you sit at your table I could see a lovely wrought-iron table and chairs outside, and I kept thinking that you could do a lovely painting of those, reminiscent of your chair paintings. I also loved at one point a tall airy plant in a basket in a window that seems like a lovely subject. Boy, when you become an artist everything we see is fodder for painting! I love that photocopy you made of your snake plant painting. Fun idea to do a cut-out sample for painting. So many people are high-tech these days and use iPads, but I really like the low-tech solutions like this!

After spending all afternoon, yesterday, working on my bold and quirky still life, I am a bit stuck. Thank you for the advice to put it out of sight for a while. As my (open plan) dining area is also my studio … (to be honest it’s my studio sometimes doubling as a dining room… and my husband is okay with it.)… I will put it upstairs in the bedroom so that I will hardly see it throughout the day. What I am wanting to resolve is that the composition feels somehow incomplete…. to me anyway. It’s a snowy day where I am and I enjoyed seeing the ocean, the beautiful old structures and especially that fabulous old anchor. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for taking time to comment. I am working on next week's video and got stuck with my painting. I resolved the problem by taking a black and white photo - it can highlight tonal imbalance. Next I cut some shapes and experimented as if building a collage. It worked ! Please watch next week and it might make more sense ! 🥰

I'm convinced that we have to firstly do the art for ourselves, it has to have our heart and soul in it. If we love it then it will appeal to that special person who will buy it because they feel it too.
The small painting you did to spite the composition rules is wonderful. For me shapes slightly out of place cause tension and command attention. If he had a twin with the yellow shape in the supposed correct place he could get away with it maybe ?
I love Hastings, especially the Old Town. I lived on the West Hill for 5 years and spent many days with my children on the beach. I am loving your videos and as soon as I finish my current textile piece I am going to do some large sketching and painting. I'm inspired. Can't wait.

@@gaynorpattle no, really! 😀 Hence your love for the Old Town and the pull to keep returning! Having spent my first 19 years growing up in Eastbourne/Bexhill I certainly do miss being by the sea and unfortunately don’t really get the time to appreciate it when I am there. And no, I didn’t get time to pop over or Hastings during this visit! I love watching your painting trips as you seem to visit many spots familiar to me. Cadiz is another favourite place of mine. When having the pleasure of living in Jerez I used to take all my visitors to Cadiz! Does Craig paint? If not, I’m intrigued as to how he occupies himself whilst you are having fun with paint and making videos for all your devoted followers!! 😄
