Now on the SV Seeker collaboration, I met Doug, my daughter and I traveled to OK to work on his boat. We sat and had dinner with him and his significant other. I respected the man for what he was doing even though I didn't agree with many of the ways he was doing it and what the final out come will be. That visit was an eye opener for me and my daughter, we learned it was all about money, all of it. But hey we each travel our own path right? Then he pulled the Fake explosion stunt. My daughter cried because she thought he was truly hurt and dying. I will never forget that. Nor will I forget how he blew everyone off and never accepting what he did was wrong. Kwel, he don't have to. But I don't have to contribute to his channel nor his store and I DON'T. Am I butt hurt? YES. Am I wrong? I don't think so. Now we have you supporting SV Seeker. DAMN. I will watch every video you put out, Except any that is including SV Seeker. I believe you are above this and don't need the Anchor that is associated with the SV seeker project. But obviously you are a better TH-camr then I am so I won't make judgements on you. Choose wisely sir. But in this case you won't loose my support since I know you are a good person.
I didn't like the explosion prank either. It was pretty crazy that he did that; Almost as crazy as building an 80 foot steel-hulled boat in your front yard. Doug isn't perfect, but nobody is. @@metalbob3335 I think it has to do with more so of the depth of cut and feed rate, for example a finishing pass typically has a shallow depth of cut and a slow feed rate that way you are left with a magnificent surface finish.
I stopped watching for similar reasons. I assume it would have to pass inspections. I figure there's a reason why shipbuilders aren't used-to-be-IT guys and instead bring collectively 100s of years of shipbuilding experience and engineering to the table. Could not wait to volunteer at some point. But holy hell he went right off the deep end. He is a baaad dude. Even though my lathe is sitting in storage until I retire, watching your videos has motivated me to work on it, disassembling the slides, cleaning up surface rust and burrs, adjusting the gibs, all in preparation for adding the DRO that I purchased for the X&Y axis. I lost respect for Doug when he purposely left the chuck key in the lathe after finishing a job, deliberately mentioned the fact, and then when challenged, commented that anyone who got hit by the key deserved it. Another one of his social experiments? Quite separately, Adam's workmanship, safety and quality is on another planet. I'm therefore a little surprised at the collaboration.

He will not be able to get insurance for it from any normal marine insurance company, unless he can pass some sort of non-standard build process for safety and other factors. Even passing that, expect a skyhigh insurance premium. This guy will sink it 5 minutes out of the berth.

Was unaware of the recent prank with seeker, doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do. Speaking of casting dome years back the casted the propeller blades in brass/Bronze. That was a true journey into the world of casting with no real knowledge.
It was pretty messed up. That channel used to be amazing.
Have to agree with the anti-seeker vibe. Watched and supported him for years as he drifted deeper into a severe messiah complex. Thoughtlessly and recklessly pranking his viewer base was the end for me. Haven’t been back since. Not something that would ever cross your mind Adam I believe. I wouldn’t make a habit of collaborating with this joker. Thanks for all you do to set the bar for TH-cam creators.
He called his viewers that used PPE pussies and told them to go back to watching My Little Pony videos. That was one of many things that made me quit watching his crap years ago and unsub. That was before the explosion prank and the evolving GoFundMe fiasco with the "Texas connection"

Thumbs up this for info, people who unaware of doug. Doug is genuinely a false god in his head. I followed him for years, agreed with all of his convictions about personal safety. Could not wait to volunteer at some point. But holy hell he went right off the deep end. He is a baaad dude. As is evident by the fact that he deleted all of the videos and pretended it never happened. If he was genuinely who he claims to be he would have left everything up and stood by his claims. But after he lost a few thousand subs overnight and pulled all of the videos and never acknowledged it. He faked his own godamn death just to mess with people who genuinely loved him just he could throw it in their face that he didnt give a f**k, in case anyone was unaware.
yeah that was really fucking weird. never felt the need to go back after this whole situation.

Very cool project. Thanks Adam. Even though my lathe is sitting in storage until I retire, watching your videos has motivated me to work on it, disassembling the slides, cleaning up surface rust and burrs, adjusting the gibs, all in preparation for adding the DRO that I purchased for the X&Y axis. I like the DoAll band saw but hope to find a power hacksaw to restore instead for my shop. Again, thanks for the episode.

I lost respect for Doug when he purposely left the chuck key in the lathe after finishing a job, deliberately mentioned the fact, and then when challenged, commented that anyone who got hit by the key deserved it. Another one of his social experiments? Quite separately, Adam's workmanship, safety and quality is on another planet. I'm therefore a little surprised at the collaboration.

Adam is it just me, or are the holes and hub of the capstan not coaxial? It's nice that steel broach plug just slides back out of the bronze. Can you imagine doing that with two steel parts? The galling would be incredible.

There has to be some cardinal sin to make people so mad, but faking an accident for the sake of the hype definitely cuts it as far as I'm concerned. And I didn't find any video of him apologizing and confessing that this was a shitty thing to do either. As if simply deleting the video and going on like it never happened is gonna make everyone forget about this…

People already started sending donations before he could stop them. I like a lot of people were in awwh about it. When he confest to the fake video. WOE I WATCH HE HAD LOST AROUND 5 THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS. I was one of them. he came out with a huge sorry and removed the video.
He did not really say sorry. It was like a Sheldon Cooper sorry. Not really honest about feeling guilty and sorry for a lot of hurt feelings. He even deleted his sorry-bad joke- video.
He did not apologize, he basically said "sorry your not on my level".

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) - In a video posted Monday morning to the SV Seeker TH-cam page, Doug Jackson's girlfriend delivers a dire message.
"He was basically unconscious. There was a lot of blood. I really don't know what happened," Betsy Warner said in the video.
But that was an act.
"We've had no injuries here beyond a Band-aid," an alive-and-well Jackson told Tulsa's Channel 8.
Jackson revealed his prank at 9 p.m. on TH-cam to his followers, a full 12 hours after the first video told them he was in a coma.
"You can't let a head concussion stop you from building a boat. I'm sorry. Yes, you've been pranked," Jackson said in the video.
Jackson planned the explosion with the help of several friends.
"I couldn't figure out what the audience was going to do," Jackson said. "You know how when you smash your thumb, everyone says, 'Ooh,' and you say, 'Ahh, I gotcha!' It's one real quick thing. When you make it longer, you test people's tolerances, I think."
His prank split his fanbase into factions: those who believed him and were sending well wishes, and those that didn't, calling it a disgusting joke.
Internet sleuths have gone as far as to call the Tulsa Fire Department, the Tulsa Police Department, and EMSA to see if they had responded to any calls at SV Seeker's place.
"Let's apologize to the dispatchers, the doctors' office, the hospitals, the fire department, the police department," Warner said.
Although Warner went along with the prank, she hasn't enjoyed the backlash.
"They don't really care about Doug anymore. It's not about Doug. They want to know if they're right or wrong," she said.
Jackson says this was, in part, a social experiment, but also a way to weed out who the true Seeker devotees were.
Did he go too far? Not in his mind.
"The only people on a boat that you can count on is your crew. There's no 911. No ambulances. You count on the people around you," Jackson said. "So, why do I filter? Because I want the right people around me."
While some have said they enjoyed the prank and his content, many have said they will be unsubscribing.
One TH-cam user said they had subscribed for boat building, not for psychology.

Doug Jackson is a class act too. Some people just have no sense of humour. If you need to get out, SV Seeker is gonna need hauling to water with a big rig before too long , but I think he's already got someone lined up for that.

Yeah. Some big prank that didn't come out how he expected, then retroactively called it a social experiment after he lost a ton of subscribers, patreons, and the respect of a few other TH-cam creators, Good of the Land and Chris Cox being two of them.
I think his whole channel is a scam to use the internet to get nice people to donate money and time to build his boat, then toss them all aside like trash when he is done using them.
6:46 I have a metal cutting DeWalt carbide blade chop saw that would cut thru that round stock in a minute with no sparks and no flashing. Good idea to wear hearing and eye protection, however.
Adam has one and has used it in a recent video. This time he preferred to use the band saw.

Also a "normal " person would have thrown these out. The casting was done poorly. melt it again and try over... these look horrible. Not to mention "did you know Doug calls everyone who watches his video's "Rats"? Unless of course you donate money.

Greenlee sells sheaves we use pulling wire but they are aluminum. Similar shape, I wonder if they would make good capstans
They might be OK for fresh water but these are going to be in a salt water environment. They may be a little too soft; I don't know.
@@royreynolds108 Lets be real for a minutes. This thing at best, will be in the water once, and then it will mysteriously sink, or end up in his backyard for life. He will not be able to get insurance for it from any normal marine insurance company, unless he can pass some sort of non-standard build process for safety and other factors. Even passing that, expect a skyhigh insurance premium. This guy will sink it 5 minutes out of the berth.

I thing holding the part would be a challenge. This Old Tony did it with a scraper in a video but his scraper was a lighter duty tool.
broaching is likely easier, because of long bore, limited space, and work holding, vs, cutting a slot and ramming a cutter through.
I recall Adam crafting a shaper attachment that can do internal keyways? Might be the capstans are difficult to set up in the shaper.
It is ok to bad mouth SV Seeker but not Adam. He is a very kind, considerate and generous person who is free to choose who he collaborates with.
If you walk like a duck, talk like a duck, you are a duck so choose your friends carefully.
No one is bad mouthing Adam. I think they are concerned that Adam is collaborating with Doug. We all love Adam dearly. Doug, not so much.
