This is another masterpiece. I can understand why you love this area so much. The canyon is indeed gorgeous. The different colors and the river are spectacular. The two bridges at Tobin are amazing. No wonder that's a well-known spot for railfans. As always fantastic footage Dan. Your high quality updates are much appreciated.
I was lucky to have ridden by train twice through the FRC. First was December 1956 when I was 9yo. Spent most of the trip in the dome of the observation car - CZ-10. Second was in 1985 on a family trip when Amtrak #5 was rerouted through the FRC. The car attendant, Mr. Mancini, allowed me to hang out in the vestibule shooting pictures out of open windows. It was a warm, spring day and I remember the wonderful smells. Thank Dan for the great videos.
As a life long traveler of the Canyon and Highway 89, this is the most gorgeous footage! Despite the innumerable wildland fires devastating this region, it is still so incredible. I only wish there was film footage from the days they blasted this road and rail line through all of that granite. Thanks again for creating this visual reminder of how lucky I am to live here.
Thanks so much and I agree despite the fires it's still a breathtaking region. I live just North in Western Oregon but always love when I am able to visit.
Dan - had to chuckle when U mentioned a "practice run" because this too has all the qualities of your usual trademark "perfect run" format!! I fully understand your love of this area to film, it presents so many opportunities of the uniqueness of the area. The Dixie fire was devastating, but it also presented a whole new view of the canyon's formidable rock formations that the original construction crews faced and conquered. Once again, team effort job very well done. Thank You very much.
Ha yes it was indeed a practice run and it very much helped. The Dixie Fire was massive. It even skirted the Gateway Sub up North of Westwood a little. It did open up many views not possible before. Thanks Charles glad you enjoyed!
Dan, thank you for this video of the BNSF manifest snaking its way through the Feather River Canyon of BNSF trackage and then on Union Pacific trackage! I was mesmerized by the magnificent scenery of the Feather River Canyon's formations in the4 Canyon and the colors of the Canyon! (Posted on 5 October 2024 at 1953 CDT.)
Of course we never get tired of such wild, spectacular beauty, brought to us by fantastic and professional drone pictures ! This is another work of art.
I live in Quincy (CA) and have known the Feather Canyon all my life. I've been down the rails from Keddie to Lake Oroville in a rail patrol vehicle. It's a marvelous run. Thank you for this video.
Dan, Gratitude for sharing what I otherwise would have never seen. Those valleys are truly humbling and depict God’s hand. Don’t know how else it can be explained. Truly an engineering wonder and can’t imagine the maintenance required to keep rails clear of landslides. Probably why speed is restricted. Would love to see how they clear the lines after a slide. Thanks again.
Hey thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed! It really is some spectacular scenery. I absolutely love it there. Yes this line is always plagued by rock slides. Recent years have been even worse after back to back wildfires.
When i Was in Calgary Alberta i drove to fields british columbia to wait for the trains especially in winter .the trains were covered with ice just spectacular when i see these videos so many souvenirs Côme in mind tanks you very much
Thanks Dan for more of the same but different every time you said it rite in your intro Breathtaking it doesn't get better than this until the next train. Keep um coming. Paul
I would agree with you that at about 19 minutes in that is just beautiful. Yes I've seen some of your other video's in this area and it never gets tiring. Wish I could go there. I'm also a rockhound and that area would be heaven to do some rock hounding in.
Wow and what a Intro, 😮 what a brilliant freight trains 🚆 video 📹 mega awesome 👌 👏 👍 captures and the scenery nothing short of spectacular wow, the drone footage awesome 👌 the two bridges 🌉 merge into one, mega, immediately moved it from phone 📱 to very large TV, with surround sound, what a great 👍 👌 watch, pity can't get a static camera near tracks for train sound as they pass by
Thanks a lot Trevor! Oh yes I enjoy it on the big screen as well! I have added sound from audio on the ground before but it is difficult to make work and match to the drone video to sound correct.
❤🛤🇺🇸Hi Dan, goodmorning from Brazil! I'm back again just to tell you: thank you for give oportunity to watch this wonderful video that I do love to see how great it is. I hope to see you in 2025 again. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks a lts Dan Bye!❤🇺🇸💙
So awesome dam this is one of my favorite subdivisions is not very busy it could be but they don't want it to be. I'm assuming you're snuck this in while you were chasing 4014. Great job
This is just fantastic….. How long would this train trip be ??? And I loved the swimming spots snd rocks at Tobin. Thank you so much for this video, the train snd the scenery were amazing
Wow!...This was fun...A very relaxing video and as always your music choice was just right. I like how you got close to the train a couple of times...how close can you get without getting in trouble?
Hey thanks so much I'm glad you thought so! I got pretty particular about the music in this one so I'm glad to hear you say that. I love getting close to the train but it's difficult when flying backwards. Much easier when flying forward. Hard to say what's 'too close.' I think if you're right up against the cab with people in it then that might be too close but otherwise just don't hit the train!
I'm surprised these videos don't get more views. I mean they're solid numbers but other TH-camrs that follow trains get more views and don't have near the quality these videos do. Keep it up.
Thank you Jonathan that's one of my favorite comments to read from someone! I can say that the channel has picked up quite a bit in the last year and the momentum is still gaining pretty good every month.
California is so diverse in its scenery and beauty, but the Feather River Canyon is easily among my favorite regions, including the northern Sierra in general. When I tell people I spent many years living in California, they look at me funny, like, how could you? Dumbasses. I'm not political. For me, California conjures up images of the vast Mojave wasteland, alive in the richest Earth tones imaginable. The hulking Sierra Pacific shoulders of the state. Towering sequoias. The PCH. Muir Woods and Ventura county strawberry fields. The endless crop fields of the San Joaquin Valley. And the rolling, treeless foothills of dry, wheat-colored grassland that gives the state its nickname, the Golden State, which turns emerald green during the winter. Visit Dublin, California in February as an example. Something about your videos inspire my inner purple prose. It may have something to do with the dramatic soundtracks you choose. (BNSF GEVOS Charging Downgrade in E flat) lol 😃 Fun fact: Theodor Judah had surveyed the Feather River Canyon as the initial route over the Sierra Pacifica for the Central Pacific Railroad, but Stanford et.al., nixed the route in favor of the much more difficult Donner Pass line, believing incorrectly that Donner was the less arduous route up and over. They should have listened to Judah. That decision wound up costing CP time and profit, much to the benefit of Union Pacific and William Durant.
I hear you about about it not being political. So many amazing regions. Did not know that about the Central Pacific so thanks for the info! That is neat.
Great video. How long ago was all that concrete formwork around some of the tunnel portals and retaining walls trackside done? Looks to be fairly freshly poured.
Another great video Dan, thank you. I was wondering- since much of this route was in the Dixie fire, do you know if there is any footage of fire trains deployed for that fire? I did some poking around after it occurred to me that would be a good way to access the remote areas and I saw that they were used in the Cedar Creek Fire in Oregon and a news story showing a fire train for the Dixie fire, but it just showed it watering down a crossing with no fire close by. Sort of a demo shot seemed like. Something like that with actual firefighting could be very interesting to see.
Thanks very much James! I am not sure about the fire train. I had seen some photos passed around during the time it was happening but can't recall from who or where. That would be super neat to see!
All the superlatives have already been made so I’ll just add “ditto”. We went through Greenville many years ago and it’s so sad to see it essentially leveled. Your pilotage amazes me, especially your avoidance of trees. The paved area along the tracks just north of the wye is used for van access to change crews. Did this train change crews at Keddie? Thanks for blessing my day!
Thanks Bill you're always too kind! It is very sad about Greenville... Yes they did a change at Keddie and was actually a bit of a wait before they got moving again. Glad you enjoyed Bill!
Do private rail cars ever get attached to freight trains on scenic routes like this that don't have passenger service? How about rail fan excursion trips?
I have actually seen a private rail car, very short train, so maybe the Big Boss hisself, right there around Tunnel #4 above Indian Creek (I was in a good vantage spot across on the west side), some years ago. On very rare occasions there are rail fan excursion trips in the Feather River Canyon, but they are very scarce.
Thanks so much Z I'm so glad you enjoyed it that much! Pretty good bonus catch during the waiting day of the 4014 I think!
I tell people that riding a train will take you places you won't see otherwise. It is true magic for me. Keep it up Dan.
Magnificent, rugged, breathtaking scenery. Perfect drone videography. Music that truly moves me. American railway engineering, without equal ! Spot on narration. WOW !! A+ A+ A+
Thanks so much you're too kind!

That's very awesome you got to do that for an Amtrak reroute! They don't do that very much anymore at all.
As a life long traveler of the Canyon and Highway 89, this is the most gorgeous footage! Despite the innumerable wildland fires devastating this region, it is still so incredible. You're too kind Thomas thank you so much! It's easy to see why they have rock slide trouble with this canyon every year.
Of course we never get tired of such wild, spectacular beauty, brought to us by fantastic and professional drone pictures ! This is another work of art.
Thanks so much my friend you're too kind! Glad you enjoyed.

We never get tired of seeing this beautiful canyon!! 😎
Great! I never do either!

Very good, always excellent train viewing from you!
Thank you!
Such a wild country . The Feather river is somewhat tamed but you can never truly tame nature .
Great train action , and you really show what a wonder it is the way they ran the track thru the mountians.👍😎
Great video with such beautiful scenery. Thanks.
Good job Dan. Thanks to your Dad too. I do enjoy this video. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Brazil.🇺🇸🤝
Thanks so much I'm glad you enjoy! Greetings!
Best Team Out there ! Taking us places , some of us will never get to see ..Thanks DAN and DAD !
You're welcome! Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Dan, wonderful scenery and train videos greetings from the UK 🇬🇧🇨🇦.
Thanks so much!
Nice video Dan Thanks four sharing.
Thanks Dan for the great video. It is one of my favorite areas for scenic railroading and I never get tired of seeing it.
Thanks glad to hear it!
one of your best efforts
Merci!
Thanks very much you're so generous!
Thanks! Top notch video Dan
Thank you so much Joe! Much appreciated!
First time viewer...so awesome. I am a train lover from Adelaide, South Australia.
Well welcome I'm so glad you're here and enjoying! This was a pretty good first video to stumble upon.
great video Dan !!!👍👍🤟
Wonderful layout, very atmospheric and realistic! gretting from France
Your great at this, your so gifted with drones you have an amazing eye I could watch you all day ❤
Thanks!
This area will never get boring for me.
Excellent done footage, it looks like model railroad set.
Thanks Dan for more of the same but different every time you said it rite in your intro Breathtaking it doesn't get better than this until the next train. Keep um coming. Paul
Thank you Paul glad you agree with the title!
Eine faszinierende Landschaft
very beautiful part of country.fantastic vidiography.

Thank You, my favorite ride!
Your videos are so good its like I'm flying a chopper there myself
super great video ❤❤
Spectacular drone photography! Thanks. Would be a very scenic ride if passenger train services were to run here.
Glad you enjoyed! Yes I would buy tickets in a heartbeat to ride a train through here.
Always interesting with The Gateway Sub and getting to see the bridge that burned 4:45 and all the trees from that fire. Thanks. 🙂
It sure really opened up that whole area.
Seriously stunning videography. 😎👍🍿
Thanks so much!
Nice footage indeed Mr Dan! Would love to go here one day
It's quite an amazing region! Thanks!

I also wish it was busier. Yes exactly! I did sneak this in during the 4014 fiasco.
I have not seen a video showing the tunnel exit on the other side of the highway??
I should do that someday. Good observation.
This is just fantastic…..
How long would this train trip be ???
And I loved the swimming spots snd rocks at Tobin.
Thank you so much for this video, the train snd the scenery were amazing
Thanks a lot! Well this train chase was a few hours long including a bit of a lengthy stop at Keddie.
Wow! I live in Sweden, and i think this train is longer than Sweden is wide..
Ha funny! This one is actually not too bad either. There are trains that can get literally twice this long on some lines in the US!
Wow!...This was fun...A very relaxing video and as always your music choice was just right. I like how you got close to the train a couple of times...how close can you get without getting in trouble?

Just looked on Google Maps and there is a train on that rarely used line at the Wye!
Ha I see that as well! What are the odds?

@6:30 are those trees dead? What's causing that?
@@sansovino4124 Burned from a massive wildfire from a few years ago.
@@TheRailfanDan Oh I see. That's a shame - looks a bit barren. I guess they'll get round to replanting at some point.
You mentioned at tunnel #1 of the Keedie Wye that this portion is not used very much. Did you mean traffic through tunnel #1?
Yes that's correct.
How often does a passenger train or excursion train get to ride the rails here?
Not much at all anymore unfortunately...
Seems like a lot of tree dieback around from tunnel 5, is there a disease in the area?
The Dixie Fire from 2021 burned a massive amount of the region and that area was entirely torched.

I like uniform level roads of China.please keep up all roads and railways for long. Very. useful for. your peoples. (2-12-24. )
Dude nice photos of the canyon. Please stop with on hold phone music...
Nice scenery, nice drone footage. Playing music ruins it for me. I’d rather hear the locomotives.
I would as well but unfortunately drones do not record audio. That is the biggest drawback.
@@TheRailfanDan point taken. ( I’m not a drone expert).
