This tutorial series has been the single reason I'm playing vintage story today. Without these tutorials, there's no way I'd have continued playing. I'm so happy that I was able to convince the moderators of the discord to add the playlist to the official website, AND get mentioned in the latest patch notes!
So my outdoor smithy (think the smithy in Riverwood in Skyrim) was so chill. I was sitting there at 2am (real world time) hammering away at an ingot while it rained and thundered outside in-game. I realized how chill it was, and I was vibing. This game is oddly relaxing at times.
Understand I think games that are this detailed, difficult and requires this much thought won't blow up in popularity. The general public seem to like more simplicity and ease in games
they haven't made almost any marketing for this game, however recently there have been a lot more videos about this game which is how I got to know about it. My guess is the devs don't want a giant influx of players just yet, maybe they're saving all that marketing money for when they feel the game is ready for a much wider audience
I found this game recently and have been entirely addicted. I've managed to muddle my way into the copper age, but these videos have shown some stuff that I missed which is very helpful. Looking forward to the smithing video, I mostly understand it but I'm sure there is more!
Mischief I am SO glad you taken time to make all these videos. I am a slow learner, so being able to watch this, do it with you and IF I need to come back, this is timeless for me haha! Not sure how you and others figured all this out but this is amazing! Thank you for all of this!
sword is nice but honestly spears are amazing , i found obsidian on my latest world and been using these , 3 quick throws and enemy is dead , copper speers are also good but not got that much metal yet on that save:) immo spears are best weapon , jab or throw bonus points you can get copper spear before even you smelt , its fequent drop from sieving bony soil(who you will do anyway to get candles , and maybe gems to trade) its even so good dev deliberately made top tier metals unable to make spears:P as for getting first bronze , goods trader occasionally can sell tin/casserite , this is how i got mine on "obsidian" world im playing now(et found lots obsidian) he sold me few nuggets who was enough to get some bronze tools , whow as fortunate as gold/silver are great bronze alternative , they generate in quartz who generates often , in 4 maps i played for 20-60 (120hours total) i only found 2 surface tin depisits , but 20 gold and silver ones , so if you as player see vendor sell bronze pick , or tin , get it:D gold/silver bronze is way easier to get but you do need tier 3 pickaxe(bronze) to mine it
Thanks for the great video! Was trying to put my crucible in a pit kiln and couldn't figure it out on my own :P. Once you have covered a lot of the base game mechanics, seeing a Bit-by-bit of a mod like Primitive Survival or A Culinary Artillery would be very helpful!!
They should do that you can cool down the molten metal in the molds using watering cans Edit: on second thought, a quick cooling like this may deform the metal and/or make it less durable
I like how you explained residual heat! Why didn't you call gambeson Battle Pajamas? Didn't you coin that phrase? You still have a ton of content to make, thanks for doing this!
they changed it so now if the molds get wet while hot stuff is in them they will SHATTER!!!!! you should update this as of 1.20 this is now a thing that happens i heard. you should check before you add to video first in case i am wrong.
what is the thing called you are using to hold the molds? Also i noticed you have a quenching bath made of stone, is it possible to transfer water into something like that or are those 2 things part of a mod?
@@NipapornP Take a stone block and put it in the bottom left corner of your crafting grid. Put a saw in the bottom middle of the grid, just to the right of the stone block. Put a chisel in the left middle of the grid, just above the stone block. Then put a hammer in the left top of the grid, just above the chisel. This will make 16 rough stone tiles.
I do really wish this game incentivized upgrading your building materials over time the way it does tools. At current, theres no reason outside of aeathetics, to not use cob for building my house forever. Its easy as hell to get and make and all it costs me is a frown whenever i see it. It would be nice if cob was subject to gravity at some point, needing to be replaced or not being able to be used as a ceiling. Or if thatch roofs leaked a little during long periods of rain, making fires go out in them. Incentivizing players to upgrade their homes as well as their tools. Maybe Log houses have a chance to catch fire if a fire is near them and stuff.
@@Researcher_Jim in a lot of ways, I'd agree, it's at the very least a better game than vanilla minecraft, but it caters to a very different experience. In terms of modded minecraft, it's best to compare it just to terrafirmacraft, and in that regard, I'd still say it's better, though it's close

I'm a longtime veteran of this game, but I'm really enjoying your little lessons in these videos. Very pleasant to watch and listen to! :)
Top 10 anime crossovers of all time, I'm basically alternating you guys' videos to get a varied and healthy diet of Vintage Story content

It's so weird to think this has been out since like 2016. I'm still waiting for the day it really goes up in popularity, wonder if that'll ever happen

Man, the Minecraft devs should take notes! Vintage story has way more variation to its terrain generation and stone types and such.
Thank you for this. I was about to stroke out trying to figure out how to pour the crucible. Didn't realize the tongs had to be in the off-hand.

bonus points you can get copper spear before even you smelt , its fequent drop from sieving bony soil(who you will do anyway to get candles , and maybe gems to trade)
its even so good dev deliberately made top tier metals unable to make spears:P
as for getting first bronze , goods trader occasionally can sell tin/casserite , this is how i got mine on "obsidian" world im playing now(et found lots obsidian) he sold me few nuggets who was enough to get some bronze tools , whow as fortunate as gold/silver are great bronze alternative , they generate in quartz who generates often , in 4 maps i played for 20-60 (120hours total) i only found 2 surface tin depisits , but 20 gold and silver ones , so if you as player see vendor sell bronze pick , or tin , get it:D gold/silver bronze is way easier to get but you do need tier 3 pickaxe(bronze) to mine it
regarding fuels, I like saving peat for baking. Higher heat in the oven means I can bake more things before having to reheat it.
You're probably using a mod that lets you do this, otherwise you can't use peat in clay ovens in vanilla
i like how this game has a bunch of different armor types, like lamellae, chainmail, scaled or full plate
Fun detail, you can pour the watering can onto the molds to cool things off quicker!

I am certain he will...kind of his thing. BUT, I wouldn't hold your breath because there is a ton of content yet to cover.
I really appreciate all these tutorials! I just got this game a couple days ago and these have been so helpful, thank you!
They should do that you can cool down the molten metal in the molds using watering cans
Edit: on second thought, a quick cooling like this may deform the metal and/or make it less durable
Also pouring water on only one side cools it unevenly, which is why submerging is used.
Ye auld smiddy? Love it
i wish you could layer certain armors on top of each other since gambeson was commonly worn under chainmail and plate
FINALLLLLYYYYYY

That should be the next episode where I cover smithing
@@MischiefofMice thank you sir, i really enjoy your bit by bit, tbh the best tutorial i ever had for any type of game, love u man, have a great day
what is the thing called you are using to hold the molds? Also i noticed you have a quenching bath made of stone, is it possible to transfer water into something like that or are those 2 things part of a mod?
They are not. You need a bucket to transfer water to the quencher. And the mold rack is vanilla.
I know I'm late, but it's called a Vertical Rack.
Can you use a watering can to help cool your molds faster?
nope. trying that in version 1.20 or higher will also break the mold and spill the metal
how do you make that stone quenching well are those thin stone blocks part of some mod?
Nope. Check out the Chiseling episode for an explanation
Sorry to ask but what is this location you are in its soo lovely green
I would love to play a modpack with you one day-- actually, do you have a server?
We play modded VS on our supporter server a couple times a week. We stream on Twitch
You say that having your hot mold in the rain cools the metal hotter. Can you use a watering can?
Heh. Many have tried but unless they recently changed that I don't think it works.
@@MischiefofMice I've tried it out since I posted this, sadly, it doesn't work :(
How do I salvage my smithing mistakes and Junk Metal? Tool Tip says I can smelt my Copper Anvil but I do not know how to break it down.
Craft your mistake with a chisel. I cover it early in the Chiseling episode.
How did you waterlog the chiseled block to make the quenching station?
I didn't. it's a full block of water surrounded by multiple chiseled blocks
@@MischiefofMice Ah thank you so much!
How do you make a quenching basin or any kind of "well" like that? I saw the one in your cooking video too, but I have no idea how you've done it
I chiseled several blocks around a source block of water.
You can also place tiles around a chiseled block to store water in a single block space.
@@tehNashty What "tiles"?

took a moment before I realized this isn't Minecraft 😆
I am sorry, but this looks like Ultra modded minecraft.
The game is based off the “vintagecraft” mod - the devs were limited by the Minecraft engine so they made their own game.
@@Researcher_Jim It's a Vintagecraft mod dev but the game is clearly mostly inspired by TerraFirmaCraft and its TerraFirmaPunk modpack.
@@Dark__Thoughtsİt is basicly terrafirmacraft with fancy graphics and less gui so its great :D
