I love the fact that this is the only film I've seen that hasn't said "Gay film" or "Homosexual Film" When they are gay. The acceptance in this piece is great, and the film itself is amazing.
Well a few factors. One it is animated & not real. Real people. That turns many off. Second there is no voices. That could have also helped a lot, because without it A lot it isn't relatable. Third No text, words. Forth the location & assumed culture , ethnicity will turn people, viewers off. All these reasons can & will turn people off. Sad but it can. I myself don't mind any of the differences. There is another gay video that does the same. In that no voices and just music.

As a black guy growing up I was always tought you know that guys are supposed to macho and andything gay or homosexual was just utterly vile and all that. I believed that for the longest time. But later high school and especially in college now a lot of my best friends are gay. And it's so crazy because it doesn't bother me anymore. I mean not that it should. It's just funny how people can change your perspective This video came up on my suggested page and not gonna lie I almost cried watching it haha. I just wanted to say that lol. 😂 To the creaters this is a really beautiful short movie. 👍
It's crazy how people are raised to feel that way, isn't it? But then when you grow older, you realize "what the heck? ____ aren't any different than the rest of us." no matter if they're gay, bi, lesbian, etc. I think it depends a lot on how you were raised. I thought it was so weird that he cheated like he really had no reason too like if the reason he was distancing himself away from his boyfriend for worrying about being gay being gay with another man makes 0 sense like if he had cheated on him with a girl that would have made way more sense
As someone who is gay himself, I really empathized with this character as he went through so much pain about hiding who he really is. I'm sure all the people who are gay have experienced this themselves... To any other who is, and feels unsure about themselves. Don't doubt yourself, don't change yourself. You're perfect the way you are and nobody can tell you who to be.
I am still in awe over the scene of the mother and son revealing their photos over the young bird. You can see the mother's photo is very clear while the son had blurry ones and it is of it trying to fly away. At the beginning it seems so insignificant but once you finished the whole animation, it comes back to it. For the mother, his son will always be the small hatchling while the son will fly away, bleak with confused view. The fact that they both had their own cameras symbolizing, despite their relationship as mother and son, they had different finder, captured and living different life. That at some point overlapped but also drifted apart. The scene at the very beginning where he cried at first was very difficult for me to discern but once his mother showed that she made a spiral milky way out of the pictures he sent from city in his old bedroom and closed the door, I understand. That is her mother way of saying that is his own little world, that he build up by himself. His camera finder finally focused on his boyfriend's face and he cried. Very beautiful short animation representing oneself sudden lost in searching his own meaning of life, when he started thinking of it. His life already had it when he is unaware, but once he started to think, he lost it and needed someone else help. Whether he is able or unable to gain back the love of his life is left open but the fact that he finally learned this valuable lesson itself weighted more imo. P/S: By the fact that the bf left "their picture together" with the note to go see her and cares for box of past pictures makes me believe they still had the chance together. If not though, he had this as lesson to never commit the same mistake again. Well, that is life.

I understand the concept of lossing something to gain something else but for some reason I feel betrayed... It's tough coming out to your family but his boyfriend was always supportive and patient while he didn't tell his mother about their relationship, so to just cheat on him with some other random guy in the club is just so cruel to do. I get that people make mistakes and maybe he got super drunk or something but it was still hurtful to do.

Yeah, he analysed the problem and how his lover was behaving, figured out what the problem was and pushed him in the right way. It shows he still loves him and really does care about him.
In the begining of the video when it was silent, i scared myself because i turned up the volume so much to try to hear something, but only made myself deaf in the process when the music came on...
this is heart-wrenching, but so very lovely. the team that worked on Arrival did such a wonderful job. Arrival shows the struggles and beauty of relationships, whether they be familiar or romantic, and what it takes to keep them alive and thriving. it gives a glimpse into the worry and anxiety of coming out to someone you care about. the protagonist's mother's reaction should be the reaction of every parent. even a short film as this can have a large impact, simply because of the outstanding magic of Alex, Amy, John C., John T., and Eric's productivity. the animation conveys so much emotion, without even needing spoken dialogue! that's a hard feat to accomplish when it comes to animation and any film, really. they managed to show emotion in the character's *eyes* (unless that's just me). seriously, Arrival is a masterpiece, and deserves so much recognition for it's magnificence. much love to this video

I liked the animation I thought it was beautiful, but it's hard to understand why he cheated on her boyfriend, he was afraid to tell his mother he was gay but that doesn't justify why he cheated on someone.
I think his real conflict is not to come out to his mother he is gay but like her mother finally shows to him, he is afraid to admit his centre of life had now been his boyfriend and his way home is him (putting the final photo him hugging his bf in the centre of the spiral, the spiral come to live and the photo of small him with caption always find way home floated by to the centre). That is why his subconscious resort to him cheating. His subconscious is aware of his true conflict, and resort to cheating to prove that he is still in power over his own life while at it, keep putting his mother (his centre before) and his boyfriend (his centre now) at arm length. Human mind is a very weird thing. His bf seems aware of his struggle but had never pushed him until he snapped. The reality is always in front of him yet he needed his mother back in the countryside to help him see it. Like you said, the animation is truly beautiful.
@@Muunbeau Well, that is your opinion. There are people like me and Julio where we try to reason a certain behaviour. A cheater is a cheater. The act of cheating itself can never be undone but the reason behind it can be studied, the sign can identified and the victim can weight themselves either to forgive or move on. Like in the animation, the sign leading to cheating are there: lost communication, awkward silent and explosive argument. Yet as the viewer from outside of the frame painting, Julio still can't seems to pinpoint why MC cheats with a guy if he is afraid of coming out as a gay. Everything happens with reason. It is a lie when you said a cheater cheats just for the sake of cheating. There is always a reason like physical attraction, bored of current partner, pressured mentally and etc. If you refused to acknowledge the justification behind the act of cheating, I believe you will always be that one deemed as victim. Since you will fail or be in an unconscious denial state to notice the crack/sign early enough to salvage or back out of that relationship. Justification also helps the victim see if they can give them a second chance, and also helps them realised if they already had to do multiple justification (repeat offender), then forgiving is just plain stupidity. Still, all that is just our opinion. You are free to have your own opinion. I do believe though this comment section is for discussing the justification since original commenter asked just that.
This is a great short animated film but I'm conflicted with the part of cheating. The moment I saw the brown haired duded cheated openly on his boyfriend, I've stopped symphatizing on him. It's such a turn off.
It's reflecting how he can't bring himself out to his mom, and the thought of looking at his current boyfriend reminds him of the picture he can't send

I started crying like a little baby in the middle. I'm. I'm still crying, who am I kidding. This is such an amazing film. It expresses the problems that can come up, the struggle, the doubt. Simply beautiful. However, I won't ever forgive this ending. Goddamn. My tears weren't enough, you had to have my 'wait, is that everything?', too? My my. I need an ending. I need to see those two happy again. But omfg.

Predictable, yet better than I could have ever imagined. The way the characters are are designed if just perfect. A true lover that stands by no matter the difficulties, and sees the struggle his partner faces even though he can't see it himself. A boy turned man and afraid to face the women who raised him, fearing disappointment from her, showing deep love for his mother. And then a mother, who despite what shows us that no matter what, the love she (and any mother) feels, will not fade, nor change. Even though seeing her son again, and even thou she misses him dearly, still reminds him where his heart truly belongs. FANTASTIC! This short film represents the struggle many faces, not just with sexuality, but personality, love and any other struggle. Revealing once true self (what ever the circumstances is) is scary, but overcoming that fear of rejection from the ones we love the most and finally showing the real you can open a universe of new possibilities and release all doubt you will have. I LOVED THIS FILM!
I really underestimated this film, I expected it to be a "forbidden gay love but they'll be together forever in death" or something dies that makes him realize he shouldve treated them better or something stupid like that. It only realize how much I love my mom, making me sob like a little baby. Even though I'm not a fan of the art style, I have to admit it was beautifully put together by the animation, backgrounds and wonderful story.

Animation major here, this is probably the best animation I've ever been recommended by youtube. It was so beautiful, light hearted yet touching on an event some of us have and or will have to deal with. The musical score was breath taking, as were the backgrounds. It's really inspiring, and I hope that you all make another short film in the future.
This was on my recommended, and wow am I glad I watched it. The animation is absolutely stunning. The drawing of the characters can be a bit hard to decipher who is who at times, but past all of that, the artwork was beautiful. The lighting choices were genius to set the right tone. It was almost ominous - I loved it! And the transitions - I can't say enough about them - zooming in and out of photographs - following the story was really nice and smooth. Also, that dream sequence was so magical - the lighting and everything was really gorgeous. I started crying when I saw the mom again because I thought maybe she had went suicide. Moreover, I love the little, realistic details put in the animation: my absolute favorite that I can't get out of my mind is when the main character is searching through the house; he stands in a doorway for a moment and then turns and leaves, his hand curling around the door frame as he goes. That is just SO, SO, SO realistic. You, and even I, have no idea how often I do that on a day to day basis, and so do other people lol. That little motion, all the little details put into this short film captured the truth and genuineness of the story beautifully. Well done! :D
Emiko Tagahushi I thought the same thing when I saw her. From him crying in the beginning to the dream he had of his mom falling, I seriously thought she committed suicide and I was crying. But I was soo glad that she was okay and that she accepted him. It was amazing. And to the creator of this animation, amazing. I loved it and I can relate to it. But everything about it was amazing and beautiful. Keep making great artworks.
12:42 the facial expressions there just wow. Also I know how that feels to love someone only to have them hurt you in the worst way possible I don't know if there was a time skip it or not but right after they had love to just wow that's just rubing salt in the wound.

The figure drawing isn't always proportional, however the smoothness of the animation, shot composition, pacing, color planning, music, and story make up for that tenfold! This is a very beautiful animation and I hope to see more stuff from this person in the future :D!! He's going to go far-

I'm crying omg this was so good, its sends such a great message to parents who may feel uncomfertable about letting there kids know about the LGBTQ+ community mainly because they think we may "influence" there child in becoming gay or whatever which is not the case it isnt a choice to be gay bi etc and this shot film helps get that message accross and I think this should be shared all over the world and many other LBGTQ+ Short Films.

I am still in awe over the scene of the mother and son revealing their photos over the young bird. You can see the mother's photo is very clear while the son had blurry ones and it is of it trying to fly away. At the beginning it seems so insignificant but once you finished the whole animation, it comes back to it. For the mother, his son will always be the small hatchling while the son will fly away, bleak with confused view.
The fact that they both had their own cameras symbolizing, despite their relationship as mother and son, they had different finder, captured and living different life. That at some point overlapped but also drifted apart.
The scene at the very beginning where he cried at first was very difficult for me to discern but once his mother showed that she made a spiral milky way out of the pictures he sent from city in his old bedroom and closed the door, I understand. That is her mother way of saying that is his own little world, that he build up by himself. His camera finder finally focused on his boyfriend's face and he cried.
Very beautiful short animation representing oneself sudden lost in searching his own meaning of life, when he started thinking of it. His life already had it when he is unaware, but once he started to think, he lost it and needed someone else help. Whether he is able or unable to gain back the love of his life is left open but the fact that he finally learned this valuable lesson itself weighted more imo.
P/S: By the fact that the bf left "their picture together" with the note to go see her and cares for box of past pictures makes me believe they still had the chance together. If not though, he had this as lesson to never commit the same mistake again. Well, that is life.

It's tough coming out to your family but his boyfriend was always supportive and patient while he didn't tell his mother about their relationship, so to just cheat on him with some other random guy in the club is just so cruel to do. this is heart-wrenching, but so very lovely. the team that worked on Arrival did such a wonderful job. Arrival shows the struggles and beauty of relationships, whether they be familiar or romantic, and what it takes to keep them alive and thriving. it gives a glimpse into the worry and anxiety of coming out to someone you care about. the protagonist's mother's reaction should be the reaction of every parent. even a short film as this can have a large impact, simply because of the outstanding magic of Alex, Amy, John C., John T., and Eric's productivity. the animation conveys so much emotion, without even needing spoken dialogue! that's a hard feat to accomplish when it comes to animation and any film, really. they managed to show emotion in the character's *eyes* (unless that's just me). seriously, Arrival is a masterpiece, and deserves so much recognition for it's magnificence. much love to this video

I can't stop crying, when he read that picture "you will always be my son," instant flashback to when my mom and dad told me in their car/truck when I came out to them. I love this! Great work. ❤️✨
I liked the animation I thought it was beautiful, but it's hard to understand why he cheated on her boyfriend, he was afraid to tell his mother he was gay but that doesn't justify why he cheated on someone.
I think his real conflict is not to come out to his mother he is gay but like her mother finally shows to him, he is afraid to admit his centre of life had now been his boyfriend and his way home is him (putting the final photo him hugging his bf in the centre of the spiral, the spiral come to live and the photo of small him with caption always find way home floated by to the centre). That is why his subconscious resort to him cheating. His subconscious is aware of his true conflict, and resort to cheating to prove that he is still in power over his own life while at it, keep putting his mother (his centre before) and his boyfriend (his centre now) at arm length. Human mind is a very weird thing. His bf seems aware of his struggle but had never pushed him until he snapped. The reality is always in front of him yet he needed his mother back in the countryside to help him see it. Like you said, the animation is truly beautiful.

@@Muunbeau Well, that is your opinion. There are people like me and Julio where we try to reason a certain behaviour. A cheater is a cheater. The act of cheating itself can never be undone but the reason behind it can be studied, the sign can identified and the victim can weight themselves either to forgive or move on. Like in the animation, the sign leading to cheating are there: lost communication, awkward silent and explosive argument. Yet as the viewer from outside of the frame painting, Julio still can't seems to pinpoint why MC cheats with a guy if he is afraid of coming out as a gay. Everything happens with reason. It is a lie when you said a cheater cheats just for the sake of cheating. There is always a reason like physical attraction, bored of current partner, pressured mentally and etc. If you refused to acknowledge the justification behind the act of cheating, I believe you will always be that one deemed as victim. Since you will fail or be in an unconscious denial state to notice the crack/sign early enough to salvage or back out of that relationship.
Justification also helps the victim see if they can give them a second chance, and also helps them realised if they already had to do multiple justification (repeat offender), then forgiving is just plain stupidity.
Still, all that is just our opinion. You are free to have your own opinion. I do believe though this comment section is for discussing the justification since original commenter asked just that.

This is a great short animated film but I'm conflicted with the part of cheating. The moment I saw the brown haired duded cheated openly on his boyfriend, I've stopped symphatizing on him. It's such a turn off.

Arrival: A Short Film by Alex Myung It felt like I'm craving for part2... I want to know what happened to his boyfriend that he once cheated on.
Predictable, yet better than I could have ever imagined. The way the characters are are designed if just perfect. A true lover that stands by no matter the difficulties, and sees the struggle his partner faces even though he can't see it himself. A boy turned man and afraid to face the women who raised him, fearing disappointment from her, showing deep love for his mother. And then a mother, who despite what shows us that no matter what, the love she (and any mother) feels, will not fade, nor change. Even though seeing her son again, and even thou she misses him dearly, still reminds him where his heart truly belongs. FANTASTIC! This short film represents the struggle many faces, not just with sexuality, but personality, love and any other struggle. Revealing once true self (what ever the circumstances is) is scary, but overcoming that fear of rejection from the ones we love the most and finally showing the real you can open a universe of new possibilities and release all doubt you will have. I LOVED THIS FILM!
I really underestimated this film, I expected it to be a "forbidden gay love but they'll be together forever in death" or something dies that makes him realize he shouldve treated them better or something stupid like that.
It only realize how much I love my mom, making me sob like a little baby. Even though I'm not a fan of the art style, I have to admit it was beautifully put together by the animation, backgrounds and wonderful story.

Animation major here, this is probably the best animation I've ever been recommended by youtube. It was so beautiful, light hearted yet touching on an event some of us have and or will have to deal with. The musical score was breath taking, as were the backgrounds. This was on my recommended, and wow am I glad I watched it. The animation is absolutely stunning. The drawing of the characters can be a bit hard to decipher who is who at times, but past all of that, the artwork was beautiful. The lighting choices were genius to set the right tone. It was almost ominous - I loved it! And the transitions - I can't say enough about them - zooming in and out of photographs - following the story was really nice and smooth. Also, that dream sequence was so magical - the lighting and everything was really gorgeous. I started crying when I saw the mom again because I thought maybe she had went suicide. Moreover, I love the little, realistic details put in the animation: my absolute favorite that I can't get out of my mind is when the main character is searching through the house; he stands in a doorway for a moment and then turns and leaves, his hand curling around the door frame as he goes. That is just SO, SO, SO realistic. You, and even I, have no idea how often I do that on a day to day basis, and so do other people lol. That little motion, all the little details put into this short film captured the truth and genuineness of the story beautifully. Well done! :D

The figure drawing isn't always proportional, however the smoothness of the animation, shot composition, pacing, color planning, music, and story make up for that tenfold! This is a very beautiful animation and I hope to see more stuff from this person in the future :D!! He's going to go far-

I'm crying omg this was so good, its sends such a great message to parents who may feel uncomfertable about letting there kids know about the LGBTQ+ community mainly because they think we may "influence" there child in becoming gay or whatever which is not the case it isnt a choice to be gay bi etc and this shot film helps get that message accross and I think this should be shared all over the world and many other LBGTQ+ Short Films.
