David Gilmour never wastes a note. Absolute genius and I've never heard anyone make the guitar cry the way Dave Gilmour does. That solo at the end is one of the sweetest ever.
Also, I'll never get over how brilliant this song is. It's perfect and beautiful beyond words. Perfectly composed, arranged and orquestrated. A true masterpiece.

It's not just that, every note he plays HAS to be there. With nearly all guitar solos there's some point where you think "Now you're just showing off". Not so with Gilmour. Changing anything in his solos would be like touching up the Mona Lisa with a marker. I have yet to hear a Pink Floyd cover that's an actual improvement over the original and I doubt I ever will.
@@JC130676 absolutely correct. It's totally intentional. You won't catch him shredding for no reason. He's like the polar opposite of someone like Malmsteen.
In music you have major and minor notes/chords. Typically, major notes, are used to emote happy feelings while the opposite is true for the minor scale. I hope this helps.

Hi, I'm writing to you from Sicily, in southern Italy. I had the fortune, honor and joy of attending the Pink Floyd concert in Rome on 19 September 1994. I was only 17 years old and it was an unforgettable experience. It was incredibly emotional, and even today I am moved listening to them, just as I was moved that day at the concert. Groups like them should be eternal; they would never have to grow old to continue writing songs, or rather, poems. The Pink Floyd videos you are watching are taken from the "Pulse" tour, the one I participated in. However, I highly recommend you watch the entire movie "The Wall" by Pink Floyd.
Gilmour has one of the greatest voices in rock and his guitar-playing is deeply emotive, so don't apologize for crying. We all do and some of us have been listening to Pink Floyd for 50 years or more. They were far ahead of their time and never get old.
The difference between most of the "guitar-greats" and David Gilmour is his incredible ability to make his guitar cry. I've never heard a guitar player get as much emotion out of his instrument like he can. For a truly mindblowing Floyd experience, you should watch Echoes live from Gdansk. I appreciate and enjoy your reactions to Pink Floyd. They are absolutely one of the greatest bands ever. This reaction, in particular, hit me in the feels, watching you soak it all in. Because you also enjoy Nightwish, I strongly recommend that you listen to their tribute to "High Hopes" from the End of an Era concert. Their version is definitely their own, but the respect and admiration for the original certainly shines through.

The instrument David Gilmour is playing is a version of a lap steel guitar made by Fender. Nobody plays it like him. So beautiful. He plays it in several Pink Floyd songs 💗
Referred to as a “steel” guitar because you determine the notes with a steel bar rather than pressing the strings down to the neck.
I was crying too, and I’ve heard this song/watched this performance a hundred times. It’s an emotional release; we’re with you. And your interpretation of the lyrics and feeling were spot-on.

The bell in the background is “The Divison Bell” which is used in England to call lawmakers to come and vote.
High Hopes was a last minute addition to the album. Supposedly David was inspired by something his wife said and he constructed the song and recorded a demo by himself in one night and the rest of the band came in and recorded the full song which was added to the album.
The sounds at the begining are the sounds of the English countryside which transports me back to when I was a kid.
Quite fitting for the song.
A couple of decades back I was suffering from a form of depression, I hadn't felt anything for what felt like months and thought I was dead inside.
One summers day driving home from work this song came on the CD player and when I got to the slide guitar solo at the end I felt for the first time in what felt like a long time and all my emotions came out all at once.
I had to pull over because I was crying so much and couldn't drive.
Once I composed myself the rest of the drive home I felt lighter and clearer than I had in weeks and the depression never came back (it's flittered round the edges on occasions but never settled since.)
It was the most amazing catharsis I've ever felt.
This song still takes me back to a childhood in the country with church bells ringing out from villages on a Sunday, endless summers, bees and simpler times.

Their music is timeless. I am proud to say that my 24 YO daughter also loves them. She hated them when she was younger but a more mature mind is all that is needed to appreciate this mastery.

Yes, with the incredible Marko singing what is definitely more of a tribute than a cover of this classic Pink Floyd tune. Nightwish bring something very different out of it while staying true to it's message.

Listening to High Hopes for the first time in the summer of 1994 when the solo started, it captivated my soul that I stood frozen thinking how someone could play such an instrument that stops in your tracks and takes to another realm where's there is no pain or suffering.
I love seeing the music I grew up with having an impact with a younger audience. Music touches emotion and can be varied....... watching the Pulse tour reminds me of taking my new wife to her very first concert.... emotions are tied to memories and often those pair well with music. And I shed a tear along with you.....

I think you should listen to both "I wish you were here" and "Shine on you crazy diamond" as soon as possible. Those two compositions are in a way anthems of many generations ... also pay attention to David Gilmour's solo work after Pink Floyd. you will hear more absolutely phenomenal music. Some say that actually David Gilmour is some kind of god walking the earth. And I mostly agree with that.😇 By all means keep it up. Your reactions are really wonderful.

I’ve also shed tears to all three songs dozens of times. David Gilmour has many other solos with this level of emotion, but I personally believe A Great Day For Freedom live from Gdańsk with orchestra tops them all. It’s incredible how much emotion comes from his hands

So everyone who knows this effect of Pink Floyd's music will understand your reaction. I love it to see how the music touches your heart. And there are still a lot of songs to discover. Feel free for asking for more possible songs. For example I would like to see your reaction to the version of "The great gig in the sky" from the Pulse Concert.

"High Hopes was actually supposed to be the last song on the album (Division Bell), a kind of finale, in one way or another. It's one of those songs that you work on quickly but beautifully, almost immediately. I carried some ideas with me into a cassette tape, with just a few bars of piano, and I went to a little house somewhere with Polly, to try to make some progress on writing lyrics. She gave me a phrase and very quickly we wrote it. Then I went back to the studio, with no one else there, I completed it and put it in a demo. I did everything myself and I can say that it was completed virtually in a single day."

Great song choice. That particular guitar is not frequent in rock music. It is a lot more popular in Folk, Country and Island music, but they ruled it! What amazed me is why did it take so long to give them a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?!
My favorite Pink Floyd song is Coming Back to Life. It is one of their very few feel good songs. It's about, no matter who has put you through the wringer and crapped on you in the past, saying screw that I'm going back to my hopes and dreams and goals, with or without you. The bell tolling at the beginning is The Division Bell, a bell that is rung in British Parliament to signal and time (8 minutes) to vote for or against a resolution. It also signals the start of the day and 2 minutes of prayer. You're not far off, it's actually an epilogue, looking back on your life in old age and the High Hopes you had for your life when you were young.
Excellent reaction. This is probably their best song post Roger Waters. I have had the pleasure of seeing this live 5 times. It definitely hits the feels. And since you are doing Pink Floyd and Nightwish on the channel, the next logical song choice would be the Nightwish cover/tribute of this song. Out of the 200+ concerts I have attended, Pink Floyd and Nightwish were probably the best shows start to finish.

I believe you are spot on with your reaction Stacey. Pink Floyd's music has much emotional content and is so easy to relate to and David's gift of playing touches the soul of us all. This year I turn 60, with graying hair and wrinkles starting to arrive, i am left contemplative which I suspect is much the point of his music. Hope you find as many years enjoying them as I have!

I heard this song first in 1994 on cassette I bought the day it was released. I put it on in my car and cried when the song was over, not because it was over but because the solo hit the part of my heart where emotion lives. David never wastes a note. They’re all there to evoke something in us all. And the solo still does it to me 30 years later
Outside of my previous comment about the Division Bell, David Gilmour's guitar solos take you to a place where emotions run free. You can listen to the same song over and over and experience the same emotional rollercoaster of feelings. Great reaction.

For more beautiful, moving ballads, check out Shine On You Crazy Diamond (the concert opener), Wish You Were Here, The Great Gig In The Sky, and Us And Them. When you want a break from tearing up, go to their faster songs, which have a unique, mesmerizing power all their own: Keep Talking, Another Brick In The Wall, One Of These Days, Sorrow, and the concert finale: Run Like Hell.... Another great rocker from an earlier concert (1987): The Dogs Of War (from the same Delicate Sound Of Thunder film you watched for On The Turning Away). For me, it is one of the great over-looked gems from Pink Floyd's live performances.
I was lucky enough to see this concert in Vancouver in 1994. That solo has the same effect on me and I’m a 58 year old man.

Never, ever be afraid to show your emotions - especially where Pink Floyd is concerned. Their music has a way of pulling on your emotions, then ripping them to shreds. This is an amazing piece of music by the masters, so it's no wonder you cried - Hey, I cried too when seeing your reaction. Would LOVE to see you react to the whole of DSOTM. The thing should be listened to in it's entirety in one sitting. It's at that point when the whole album concept hits you in the gut. Take that as fair warning. Keep it up gal. Just imagine listening to this entire album while driving around in a convertible mustang in Hawaii with the top down, the sea breeze blowing and the sound of the surf as accompaniment. I did that right after this album came out and now every time I hear any song from the album it transports me right back to that magical place in time.

It was very emotional to see your reaction on this song, I think your emotions came out in a more physical way than the others. It made me feel more also. I’ve listened to Pink Floyd since I was a toddler, so we can say their music have been part of what makes me who I am today. I completely agree wholeheartedly. Nightwish’s tribute is next level. From what I heard David gave a thumbs up to it. Darker and heavier as Nightwish puts their own spin to it. A must see for sure
Your obviously not a Floyd fan or English its sacrilege to do covers of Floyd . Nightwish cannot hold a candle against Floyd , plus Nightwish dont have a guitar player to touch Dave Gilmore . Its not a tribute at all

There’s a very good reason hardly any bands done any sorta cover/ tribute to PF music. They’re legends…. You’re obviously a hardcore fan of PF and cudos to ya. But forgive me ever suggesting a tribute to a great song by a very good/ talented group Nightwish that did a phenomenal job playing it. The 2 versions are obviously different but to suggest to anyone that he/she is completely wrong in either to request it or even mention it. I watched David Gilmour play live at Royal Albert Hall in London a few years ago and when he played this song, as well as Comfortably Numb and Shine On I cried like a baby - partly because of the experience of watching a master Ive grown up with live, but also undeniably because these songs are masterpieces of emotional, melodic intent drawn from real experience telling you a story. Pink Floyd are unsurpassed.

And if you like this one....I am 100% sure you will also like the Cover Version of this done by Nightwish....They covered that on the DVD End of an Era....give it a try...you dont have to compare it to this one.....just look at it and lets enjoy it together. Stacey, I love your heartfelt reactions. I’m 64 years old, and they have been a favorite of mine for many years. David makes the guitar sing. Would you like to hear young Pink Floyd? In 1971, released in 1972, they recorded Echoes in an ancient outdoor stadium in Pompeii, Italy. No audience. Just them and the film crew. One of the TH-cam videos that captures this is Pink Floyd-“Echoes” Pompeii. That is Part 1 on the HDPinkFloyd channel. A video that shows both parts is Pink Floyd-Echoes/Live at Pompeii (full). I highly recommend. A year after this, in 1973, came their hugely successful Dark Side of the Moon album.

Try keep talking from the same concert. He uses a instrument that he uses in his mouth that is simply incredible, you'll love it. Floyd are so good at making you feel what the song is about. The amount of people who have said this song reminds them of their childhood is amazing

Stacey, what David Gilmour was playing his solo on is called a Pedal Steel Guitar...like part electric guitar, part four-legged, pedal-sound-controlled mini-piano sort of.
Another amazing reaction, love the tears, they show the level joy you're feeling. That was a Pedal Steel Guitar David used for the last solo, very cool sound, very emotional.
It is a reflection on the cycle of life, from childhood exploration to the colorization we all realize as we bind ourselves to others views of the world and being to loose our individuality through the creation of habits. Reflecting back, everything seemed more vivid then (the grass was greener) We get lost and loose our connection to the universe as we develope filters the second we enter this planet and begin looking externally for acceptance and definition of self. That connection never left us....and we return to it when we die....and some of us.......we seek the connection once we undersand the game and those people usually are artists....channeling the universes energy and transfering it to those we present our work to.....much like Pink Floyd does with their music. And we affect every sould we touch.....reminding them that the connection to "all that is"....is in you too. Being at Floyd concerts have written pages into my souls book that truly have affected and changed my life in finding that connection again.

Hello Stacey, thanks for the reaction, David has a unique language of expressing himself through his guitar(s). the instrument he was playing in the last solo is a Steel Guitar, in general a normal guitar can be used using a Steel Slide, a type of tube that is placed, for example, on the ring finger of the left hand, a method often used by guitarist Chris Rea. Thank you very much for the video and yes Pink Floyd "forces" us to cry without wanting to. Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹

This song evokes childhood memories of summer in a typical English village set in green rolling countryside on a sunny Sunday morning, the village church bellringing, playing in the corner of the farmer's field with friends where hollows in the hedgerows became our dens, and we'd jump across a small brook, occasionally losing our footing and getting our feet wet. Happy days.
Every time that music wakes up your emotions, makes you cry or give you goose bumps you know for sure that this music touches you and it is part of your personal music collection. That music is on the same wavelength as your soul/spirit referring your life experience.
"Echoes" off the "Meddle" album is a must. It's long - it took up the entire "B" side of the vinyl - so maybe not the best for a reaction video, but just listen to it for yourself.
There are three standout versions IMHO: the studio recording, the original "live in Pompeii", and David Gilmour live in Gdansk. The first 2 are going back towards the origins of Pink Floyd, shortly after Syd left and the lineup became the "classic" Gilmour, Mason, Waters, and Wright. They were recorded in 1971, so over a half century ago.
The Gdansk version is brilliant and extra poignant because it's the last time David would ever perform it, as we lost Richard Wright to cancer not long afterwards and David said he'd never play it without Richard. That was the last ever Pink Floyd related performance of Richard's. #fuckcancer
Loved the reaction, thank you 🙏🏻. The guitar David plays is a slide guitar, he holds a tube in his left hand and slides over the strings and that gives it that twangy sound.
Next on the list…. ? Studio version of “The Great Gig in the Sky”. Little disclaimer, this song is from their album “Dark Side of the Moon” arguably the best album ever made. It’s a concept album which is best listened from beginning to end.
