The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever
If you like that version, you should love the version from The Delicate Sound of Thunder. It features Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Margaret Taylor, and they perform it to perfection.
They pull of the best live versions of their songs. I love your guy's set, colors, lights, and zles Pauls on the wall. Great reaction. Pivk Floyd definitely connects, almost on a soul level. The song is , to me, the human experience. Who of us doesn't long for the beaty , wond, and simplicity of child wonder surrounded by friends, lost is each moment until one day we grow up and get caught up in the rat race. I'm 64 now, and thought I live a great life, the eyes with which I see my world are different from the eyes of the child I once was. Melancholy is spot on. No one on their deathbed wishes they'd spent more time at the office or that they'd made more money. Why wait 'till our deathbed, when there's no time left, to mourn the changes we could have made, but chose not to? It reminds me of the question, how would you live your life if you knew you had only 6 months left to live life. Do that.
"Pulse" was one of the most iconic concert performances ever recorded. In my time, I feel fortunate to have seen 3 historic Pink Floyd tours... Dark Side of the Moon, Animals and The Wall . One of the best bands to ever exist.
She is correct in her description. I was impressed that you got that much information on your first listen. It ususally take me several because i get lost in the music. Great reaction.
I was at this concert in ‘94 Earl’s Court London. And this was my favourite song of the night, you really couldn’t believe how amazing it sounded live I get shivers down my spine thinking about it. The whole concert was next level and I haven’t been to another concert since. One of these days was epic as well. Try this concerts versions of run like hell, shine on you crazy diamond, money, sorrow, great gig in the sky. You will not be disappointed. TRUST ME.
I love that you love this! Speaking of Time, listen to that one and get reminded yet again of the passage of time and life but also the beauty of it all 🙌
I agree, this is one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs, this, Echoes and Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts I-V are my favourites, but where there are great live versions of the first 2, the studio version is by far the best with Shine on You Crazy Diamond. And yes, it is about the passage of time and mourning the loss of childhood innocence, and again spot on about the solo on the Fender Lap Steel guitar packed full of meaning and emotion.
I have to say to Carol, for a young 21st century woman, you have great depth to your insight and understanding of this song. I watched your beautiful smile fade and you almost looked like you were going to cry a couple of times, as you totally understood the full meaning of this amazing piece. I also agree with you……this is Pink Floyd’s best song. All the other from this concert are all priceless, but this one reaches into your soul and brings emotions you only know as memories. The other song PF does that is on the same level as this one is,” On the Turning Away “……you must listen to it also, from the live concert in the USA around 1989 I believe. These two songs bring tears to my eyes quite often. Cheers from Canada🎉👍🎸🎶😎🇨🇦
Watching you guys react to songs that I've loved for many years makes me feel it "for the first time" ..again !! Keep it up ! Stay with Floyd for a while !
Great reaction and I can see you was trying to hold it together at the end on the guitar solo. It’s truly emotional. Apologies as first time visiting but she hit it on the head perfect with her explanation and I’ve watched many articulate the same emotional reaction.
This was such a great reaction! Thanks guys. And just remember guys many a person has shed tears while listening to one or more songs by Pink Floyd. I know I have it only shows how musically gifted this band is. (IMhO) I would like to suggest another one of their songs from the same concert, if interested. "Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky (Pulse Restored & Re-Edited" (by the channel: Pink Floyd) --This song is the fifth track from the album called "The Dark Side of the Moon" released in 1973 and allows the legendary Clare Torrey to showcase her wonderfully skilled vocals, alongside Richard Wright's beautiful and iconic keyboard playing. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you. Thanks for sharing.peace out~
PF always manages to give me goose bumps… And each track can be more powerful and emotional depending on how your own personal previous few hours have been.
I meant one of these days at pulse concert. All these years later I can still see this song with vivid clarity and remember the pulse concert in every detail. You will not be disappointed when you see one of these days. 100 percent mind blowing.
Carol you are lovely. The emotion showing on your face was as beautiful as the music❤. Never apologize for the way a song makes you feel. Its unique to you, as it is to everyone.
This original is great. You should also check out Nightwish’s version of High Hopes. It’s a tribute to Pink Floyd more than a cover. If you haven’t heard Nightwish they are normally a female fronted symphonic metal band but their version of High Hopes is an older recording and their bassist Marko is on vocals. Highly recommend. If you end up liking Nightwish then move on to the song Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013 (German music festival pronounced Vacken). You won’t be disappointed.
High Hopes is the best Pink Floyd song for me also. I love The wall, probably seen it 20 times in my life and I've listened to the album about 200 times but never in my life have I thought to myself "Hey, i want to listen to mother or comfortably numb or goodbye blue sky (which is my fav song from the album)", the whole album is a masterpiece and I only listen to it as a whole.
Great reaction from you both! The song is about how when you're young, you enjoy your time, when you're a little older, you want to be an adult, but the older you get, the more you yearn for your childhood years. Pink Floyd is GOAT. No question.
Saw this 5 times. Recommend" "Keep talking">special edition>remastered>pulse 1994>reedited 2019 by Obi Wan Kenboi. intro by Stephen Hawkings. The young lady nailed what the song about. I was at the concert and there were three standout moments for me, and you have now reviewed two of them. The third, I don't think you will be able to do because it doesn't seem to be on TH-cam, and that was Astronomy Domine, which, if I recall, was the second song of the concert.
Excellent reaction. The Pulse version is amazing, however with that said, I believe this is the only song from the Pulse tour that was outdone by David Gilmour's version from his Live in Gdansk tour....it was a beautiful version...it was in fact, complete.

"Yeah?" "Is that Charlie?" "Yes." "Hello, Charlie." *phone hangs up* "Great."
It makes me sad that we live in a time where one of the first things it made you think of is war 😢.. we all bleed red.. we are one people.. let's hope we realise it sooner rather than later❤
October 20th 1994 at earls court London England. I was at this concert. I liked your reaction to hi hopes. You should react to high hopes from the pulse concert. It will blow your mind. This song brought down the house. The special effects are on another level. Enjoy your Floyd journey.
Great reaction to a legendary performance. The entire Pulse concert is top tier. One of the best every recorded. I notice a distinct lack of Nightwish on your channel. NW does an amazing tribute to High Hopes. If you decide to go down the NW rabbit hole, I do recommend starting with Ghost Love Score. You will want to do the live at Wacken 2013 version. Next to Pink Floyd, they are the best live band I have had the pleasure of seeing.
You really should check the Nightwish's version of this. I dare to say it's better than the original and even though some may disagree with my opinion it's still well worth watching/reacting to 😊
I love comfortably numb, but this song is more relatable to the average person. The passing of time, the evolution of you as a person. The triumphs of success, while looking back and longing for your past. Like so many songs that were written in memorandum of Sid, I think this one was written as a way to say goodbye to Roger, and the band’s past with him.
I have no problem with anyone preferring this over the live version of Comfortably Numb. I actually prefer the studio version of that song. High Hopes is great. Love the reaction!
Very nice! You should try a video from the Live at Pompei and the song Echoes. Live at Pompeii is the greatest optico-acoustic concept of all times in rock music. Greetings from Greece.
I am a massive Floyd fan , But they do have better songs then Comfortably Numb , But they really don't have a bad song just better ones , Sorrow from this concert is amazing also On the turning away live at the delicate sound of thunder concert. Much love from the UK! x
Lovely assessment Carol. High Hopes, Sorrow, and Keep Talking are, in my opinion, the best songs from the concert. I strongly recommend you listen to the trifecta.
Your synopsis is absolutely spot on. It is absolutely that longing we feel for the wonder we have as a kid about life and the world and all those opportunities that could lie ahead. And then adulthood sets in and things become cynical, tarnished, limited and disappointing. To me, at the end his guitar is crying for that time.
When Gilmour is on guitar we all need a cigarette and I quit smoking 20 years ago. I think more folks need to delve into Floyd and even go into David’s solo music. The bell ringing has to do with the album. It was called The Division Bell. And you’ll hear a line in the song how the ringing of the Division Bell began. Everyone has a different Floyd song that speaks to them. For me it’s always been Wish You Were Here. It’s short but says so much. Go listen to anything David did in his solo career Live in Gdańsk.
Love you both……..suggestion>. With Pink Floyd, I really suggest that you read the lyrics, either beforehand, or afterwards. It will help allot. The lyrics are so important in Floyd…deep, often spiritual in nature…often speaking of life, of the passage if time. You are right, Carol; This is autobiographical, is is much of their work, but also can be applied universally. The innocence of childhood (or the beginning of the band)….when the light was brighter….but the division bell had, in fact, already begun to ring……the forces that would drive them apart…ambition…They speak of “bridges burning” behind them (the expression “don’t burn your bridges”……meaning, if you act in a certain way or make a certain decision, you will never be able to take it back. This could apply to their own band, or to life in general: We become adults, we drift apart. this is a very deep and sad song……the lyrics are poetical, and should be read so that you fully understand the message.
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition, there's a hunger still unsatisfied. Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon, go down this road we've been so many times. The song is a warning. Don't throw away the life you have by chasing dreams. You'll lose everything, be alone and you'll never be satisfied.
The studio recording is far more impactful, to me, because the bell which leads us in (its steady, persistent beat) is the lasting tone which shepherds our departure, after every other sound has fled the scene.
I agree with you Carol. On this HIGH HOPES. But solo on CN is awsome but lyrics on this is thinkable. I ❤ both but i am with you Carol for me this is better. Thanks for your reactions had been follow you for awile and i llike it. Will conntinnue. Saw T-R with dire s. I ❤ that 2 i will looking back and see what u done. I thinkk u love the most ppl on here recommed
Please react to Kashmir AND Achillies Last Stand AND InThe Evening all live from the 1979 knebworth concert PLEASE! Zeppelin...these 3 songs will blow you away!
High hopes is the late Pink Floyd, more influenced by David Gilmour himself. Carol’s interpretation of the meaning is spot on! I personally also connect more to High Hopes, as I also tend to be very nostalgic. If you loved this, check out „Shine on you crazy diamond“!
It’s not wrong to say you liked this better because this rendition of High Hopes has to be the most perfect live rendition of any song I’ve heard from their Pulse show. I also think “Sorrow” ranks up there as top 2 from this concert. Both were played flawlessly. Check out Sorrow next!
You should to listen David GILMOUR live in Gdansk version, one of the best to me, for the live versions I prefer David GILMOUR's ones, I like the P.U.L.S.E version of Pink Floyd too but the background vocals at the end is useless to me, but I love the Pink Floyd studio version of "The division bell" which is the one who made me discover this song.
Sonically, visually and emotionally there will never be another band that puts on a live show like Floyd did. Never ever, end of discussion.
That's true
Predicting the future with such certainty and denying others the right even to question your perceived wisdom is truly the mark of an imbecile.
Agree!!!
Well said.

I can also say the same about my childhood, but also my first time with LSD with my best buddies and with the music of pink floyd

Dave Gilmour is an international treasure,....
It's ok Carol, you say how you feel. That is what it is all about! You said it!
Great reaction you guys. You MUST do Great Gig in the Sky from the same Pulse concert. It will bring you to tears without a single word being spoken.

Can't wait until you do "Sorrow" from the pulse Concert. It will make you understand David Gilmore's iconic status

@@t-bagbagwell1327 Yes, I was referring to the live version. Thanks for clarifying that.

[Intro]
[Verse 1]
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
[Chorus]
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
[Verse 2]
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Please react to Kashmir AND Achillies Last Stand AND InThe Evening all live from the 1979 knebworth concert PLEASE! Zeppelin...these 3 songs will blow you away!
Please react to the rest of the Pulse Concert..you WILL NOT be disappointed.. Sol from Cape Town..
Watch David Gilmour’s High Hopes live from Gdańsk.
The emotional reflection on youth as you become older and more aware of the cynical restrictions placed on us by the control
"Time"...definitely the studio version first...
David Gilmore is the best. ❤❤
