  • My wish for Christmas 2020 is summed up in the third verse of this carol:
"Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love, and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
and in His name, all oppression shall cease."
May peace and justice reign on earth!
I arranged "O Holy Night" in a West African style by playing with the original 6/8 time signature of this piece to make typical West African polyrhythms. The left hand of the piano is playing 6/8, while the right hand is playing in 3/4. Also, the drum on the bottom right hand corner is playing around with 4/4 and 12/8, while the drum on the top left hand corner is playing playing around with all of the above.
"O Holy Night" is a song about the Divine reaching out to set off a wave that in its perfect time will bring peace and justice for all. This gift belongs to us all, from Africa, to the United States, to China, to the whole world. Like polyrhythms, let us turn friction into harmony. Let us all be part of this wave to make the world a better place!
A special thanks to my son, Luciano, for staying up into the wee hours to help me film this!
